The below posts are absolutely wrong, in regards to the bat/rat adds. At 50ish percent health, he pops upstairs, and heals to full health. The bats will STILL SPAWN even after lighting the torches in the first room. I was summoned up to his respawn point, and there were 2-4 greater rat adds in there as well.
He flurries, rampages, Harm touches, and max hit on my 59 necro was 184 that I seen.
I like this event. Fun + strategic, and aimed for the low-mid level tiers.
Spoiler- 1. Upon initial agro, the 4 torches each spawn "an undead bat" every 20 seconds. (note- they are NOT flagged as undead for spell-casting purposes) 2. Handing the torches "a flickering watchtower torch" (verify item name?) will light them, and stop the spawns. 3. If you dont kill the bat adds, they add up quickly, and will stay alive after Defan is dead. 4. I would estimate ~12k hitpoints on the initial Defan spawn (1200pt dd nuke did about 10% dmg). 5. At some point during the fight, he will teleport (think it was at 50% HP) to the roof-- near the signal fire, and needs to be re-engaged. (I believe he drops agro upon porting.)
Kill him and a window pops up, offering one of 5 options of loot (req33, rec40 +20-25hp/mana tier leggings).
Defan's corpse yielded 2x "Burnt out Essence of Spectre Rage" (same drop as commonly found on trash skellies, outside the Tower).
Love that SoE designed low-mid tier stuff for newer folks to enjoy :)
To kill this guy you first need to speak to Shaytherrin The exorcist in Blightfire Moors and get the Dark Tower quests.
quest 1 you have to collect 10 torches from the mobs outside, quest 2 you have to collect an emblem off the 3 named mobs and kill another 15 mobs quest 3 you have to visit drefan a few levels up the tower and give him the item from shaytherrin where he will then become visible and you can attack him.
if you light each torch in the room it stops the bats from spawning to assist him.
after a little while he will dissappear and reappear up on the roof of the tower, run up there and kill him.
I completed this with a 47 rogue and a 2boxed 71 cleric :) the clerics AoE nukes helped a ton on the bats and rats that kept spawning on me.
I suppose you can light the torch up on top of the tower, but never really tried as i was too busy dealing with him.
To light the torches, just Give one to the torch by passing it to him like you would another player...it's a bit difficult as I had to stand right over the torch before giving it to him as it kept dropping to the floor...
