I am a returned ranger doing the Ivy Etched quests and I got extremely lucky on this quest. I only had 2 extra arrows (both arrow of Acknowledgement) to get the 6 different ones needed for the quest. These brownie outcasts hit pretty hard and they heal. I am avoiding Defiant armor and running around in Trueshot newbie armor and Raw Hide at lvl 40... these guys killed me twice. The trick was to wait until they DoT hits them just below half and then use the 2 nukes to take them out. Hopefully they already healed recently.

Highest one has hit me for was 73. Other than that their damage shield (6 pt Shield of Thistles) is your only other concern. They don't have any offensive spells, only defensive.
I was slaughtering pixies around the tower hoping it might trigger Larktwitter to pop so I could get her bow, and was jumped by one of these. I saw him earlier casting buffs on himself, so I figured he was like the brownie scouts and would nuke me if I got too close. I waited for him to wander off and went back to lowering my pixie faction when Bam! A brownie outcast punches you for 54 damage! Sh*t I thought and ran in a straight line hoping to get to the edge of the zone before it killed me so at least I wouldn't have to wander around in the middle of the zone searching for corpse later. I got to an edge of the zone and kept running around the edge hoping I was near a zone (I would have zoned into Mistmoore if I had to, to get away). After a bit of running the attacks stopped and I relaxed a bit but made it to the Steamfont zone by tracking Cognoggin. There was some ubers looking for the corrupted brownie there and one of them killed the brownie that was chasing me after I zoned. Funny thing was he never cast a spell at me, just punched even though I clearly saw him buffing himself earlier. I guess I got lucky he decided to use H2H on me or else his spell selection only included buffs at the time I ran into him.

If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?
I play and untiwked lvl 30 ranger and i soloed these guys even the lvl 33 ones which do ofcourse con red. So this quest can be soloed at lvl 30 if u know how to play a ranger. RAngers are a far mroe powerful class then given credit. Trick is to cast sow on yourself. Dot the target, Don't cast snare, with snare you will waste mana as it will be resisted 9/10 times. You can still outrun them with sow, cast your dot spell which rarely gets resisted even on the red con brownies. Then wip out your bow and start firing make sure u stay out of their attack range, they hit hard. When u run out of mana and their health is down to 40% mele them and they should go down. Careful they somtiems have a nasty damage sheild. They also heal themselves.
If you hunt at the Pixie Tower there is a brownie outcast that wanders past, usually at night but going on a pixie rampage might spawn it, and you might not see him until it's too late since you'll notice the blue name more than the brown on brown tones of the brownie. If you are a lower level I recommend either casting some sore of ivis or camo or staying on a far hill if you need to recover mana.
It crosses the north courtyard diagonnally from the tree a the end of hills on the west side to the ditch on the east and stright onto the road. I didn't follow to see if he changed corse or kept on but if he see you and you're not a 31+ with good mana run for the zones. Head for the Mistmore if you must but if it's night don't hang around cause that place is the worst of 2 evils.
Aside from that bugger and the wandering Equsetrial it's a pretty safe and easy spot to get dust for the quick ranger quest
Meldrath is Meldrath the Malignant who is a necromancer in the minotaur caves in Steamfont. He is part of the Ranger Ivy Etched Tunic quest and drops the rune of ivy.
Actually Meldrath drops his skull, which is handed in with an ivy rune from Thistle Underbrush (Lesser Faydark) and two rubies for the Ivy Etched Tunic.
I just took out a yellow con outcast with my 30 Druid. I think he might have been only 31 but I still feel lucky. If anyone is curious, my recommendation is to fully buff, exp Skin and Endure Fire!, snare and nuke with combust. He will root and combust u which should be minor damage with your 60+ fire resist. I had to GHeal once and he did once also i beleive but I nuked him to death with about 20% hp and mana. hope that helps, my recommendation to melee, get a caster to help!
My 32 bard and a 32 ranger friend have been camping the tower in L Fay. I have seen them conn, yellow, black and blue. We have killed about 15 of them to get 5 different arrows. We're going back tonight to try to get the last one. One of the keys to the outcasts, as someone else said earlier, is to attack them before they buff themselves up. Their DS is pretty nasty. Also, they nuke hard (180 pt) and dot. We have been killed about twice each (we are untwinked, and proud of it). The times we died, we attacked yellows that were buffed, and they would root and nuke one of us down. Oh yeah, they can root too!
Three of my guildmates (29 druid, 28 bard, 30 necromancer)and I (30 ranger) played whack-a-pixie around the tower until one of us saw "a outcast brownie" on track. Killing it was fairly easy. With all of us whacking on it, we interupted its spellcasting fairly well. I cannot remember how many we killed, but we completed the task in a couple of hours. That included two of us getting killed by that corrupted black horse, Equestrelle (spelling??) once and all of us successfully running to the zoneline another time. It must have been around 12-15 of them. I remember having 11 brownie parts afterwards.
Oh, Thistle Underbrush showed up twice as we were playing whack-a-pixie. So, I looted the rune of ivy for the helm as well.
heh some of u guys are pretty weak me when i was 35 (rang) my wiz friend 36 and some 30 rang all went in after these guys and killed 3 of them in no time i was tanking and only lost like 3 bubbles of health. granted i have better weapons than the crappy Morin sword or war claws .... i used my centi ls and my dark steel ls and these guys were a snap i suggest if u dont have at least decent weapons then just dot go after them ...cause if 1 can kill a grp of 30's then those guys just need to practice more and use there heads rather than trying to run when they get u low on health =P
I ve got one arrrow to go, need all six, I've killed close to 30 of them, they keep dropping duplicates. They are kind of tough for my 39 ranger. died once or twice. The key is to get them as they spawn, or they buff them selves. Who ever got all 6 in 10 kills was very lucky, the odds of that happeneing are quite low.
The best is to keep hitting them with carless lightning, as fast as possibe. I had more HP, so it is a race to kill them, I'd be oom by time they died.
If they were not a fresh spawn, then sneak up with camo, one spell of cancel magic, then just carless lightning. Make sure u are within hitting range. They try to root, but I usally resist.
When fighting brownies, have your fire and magic resists up as high as possible. Forget AC. Druids cant tank. Have an enchanter to mana sieve them dry and a healer/dispeller to take those dots off. Dispell their buffs off which will also take their SoW off. Let the main tank take the blows and be quick on the heals/dispells. Heck...a wizard could blow them away. After all....
with this quest? Are the leggings that great? I have nearly base resists right now and i need to work on it and these leggings give some resists so should i do the quest or just get ry'gorr. I dont want to die a million times but i have a good guild that could help me

Just last night I finished camping the brownie outcasts. I had a level 36 Pally and myself (level 30 Ranger). We could easily kill the Pixie Tricksters and Pranksters and force the Brownie Outcasts to spawn.
We ran into two "gotchas." First, if Equestrielle the Corrupted is in the zone, her pathing takes her right past the Pixie Tower. Ouch and run for MM zone several times.
Also, about every third or fourth spawn, the Outcasts came in two's instead of by themselves. When two of these little monsters spawn, a group of two really cannot take them. We had to ask for help from higher levels camping the zone to clear the spawns.
Finally, I had about 4 duplicate lore items all told. So, we had to kill 10 Outcasts to get all the arrows.
The Pally cast endure magic and I cast endure fire on both of us. During the battle I (ranger) tried to interrupt the casting of the Outcast while Pally tanked. Also, I cast Cancel Magic at least 2 or 3 times every battle to debuff the Outcasts.
I cant believe you guys talking about outcasts wiping out 2 or 3 30ish characters! I just killed one 5 minutes ago solo. Im a 35 druid. He got me to one bubble. I'm not saying that there not tough, but killing a group of 3?!!? If you are a druid, hit him with a combust first. Then follow with a fury wind so you stun him. Then quickly a combust. This will just about finish him. OH, dont forget to snare him first thing out of the gate. The one i fought hit me with three 177 dd and a DoT. They are great sport.
Ok, one day I was trying to solo these dudes they con white (lvl 32 ranger) and as I was really wanting some more ivy etched to add to my collection, I thought how hard can they be, I tracked one down to the tower, hit him w/ snare, backed up, hit him w/ ignite and arrows (bow kiting for all those that don't know). He hit me w/ ensnaring roots, I think crap, bust out my morin's and sarnak claws, he's too far away for me to hit but to close to use bow, so here I am swatting uselessly at this little 1 and a half foot creep. Next thing I know he's full health and I'm dropping an entire bub of health every 2 to 3 ticks, my advice get your guild (if you have one) to help you, I have a lvl 44 cleric, 32 ranger, 33 mage, 39 warr, and most likely many more ppl to help me, and we are still leary about these guys.
None of the brownies will agro you in wolf form. However THE OUTCASTS WILL STILL AGRO YOU. I passed by the pixie tower in wolf form and ever time an outcast is up he attaced me.
Then you've done something to your faction. I've only ever killed brownie scouts in GFay and Thistle in LFay and I can hang out by the pixie tower in LFay all day long in wolf form and their indiff.
It's kinda freaky tho' to be killing up a storm around these dudes and they could care less about you...=)
(I do, however, recast wolf form frequently, just to be safe)
Actually, I can speak for myself on this, anyways- brownie outcasts con apprehensive to my druid in wolf form. Brownie guards, scouts and the rest always con indifferent. Hehe... it's been such a massacre lately with the pixies and I that they won't let me have a moment's peace to meditate, so I head on over to the brownie merchants to rest after a bout with the outcasts.
I think that the only characters that don't agro Brownies are Enchanters with Air Elemental form up, and Wolf Formed chars. Everyone else gets attacked, especially if you've killed any sort of Brownie before.
was checking out the fairies this morn...camped. so, I decided to try pixie tower. no frightlings to be seen. feel the swarm of a thousand stings and meet a brownie outcast[conned green]. had me to 60% quick. /gu "boy I really hate dying". kept fighting and at 69 HP he died.
These guys are great to kill for the brownie parts now. I have been killing them and getting one brownie part each kill. Thank goodness for increased drop rate!
