I went hunting Thistle for the first time. Had Skin Like Steel, Bramblecoat, Wolform, Resist Fire up. Zoned in from Steamfont area. Brought up track & at the very bottom was Thistle. Threw on Sup Camo & took chase. He was standing in a small valley all alone. Unfortunatley he called for help & a brownie scout got me. I recovered my corpse & buffed myself, brought up track & he was still there! Took chase again & killed him. He dropped the Cords, some words, a gold ring, brownie parts, & a no-drop rune with I didn't loot. He was roughly in the middle of the zone right off the path. At 29th lvl he was a pushover.

OK, stand corrected while trying to do 2nd Tunare quest. Equestrielle the Corrupt sees right through your Superior Camo and all other forms of invis (had 35 Wiz with me) He was yellow to me at 39 and as he attacked my Wizzy friend, I tried to snare, root, DD it and nothing touched it. Think enchanter is needed to debuff his magic resistance to try and kill it at this lvl. All I can say to any lowbies trying to kill Thistle, careful, this horse can nail you for 400pts of dmg in one hit.

G'day, I'm quite sure it doesn't, I spent a lot of times camping the Nybright sisters when I was in my hign teens and crossed its way more than I'd have wanted to, and the only times I got aggroed and killed were when I had not Camo up (15th lvl Ranger spell). Hope this helps

For the last 3 days I have run around Lfay and killed him about 20 times..not once did he drop the cords. Curse you Thistle!! Also anyone else trying to kill him, be wary of the Equestrielle Corrupt..or something like that..it's a roaming black shadowknight (or so I'm told) horse at lvl 40. He got me one day while hunting thistle, does not see through invisi though.

Equestrielle the Corrupted DOES see through invis, however will con indifferent if invis is up. I went through LFay trying to help a newbie gt their corpse back, saw Equestrielle there conned it. Oh indifferent, I should be fine! I couldn't have been more mistaken. It cast a dot on me and before I knew it the horse and two brownies were kicking the tar out of me. It's unsettling that it doesn't invis con correctly.

Update on Equestrielle. I have been hunting Thistle and seen this beautiful creature numerous times. I have invis up (45 druid) and have walked up to her and taken pics. The minute I tried to cast something however, the camo flies off and she attacks, but is easily outrunnable in Form of the Great Wolf, which is supposed to be faster than SOW, so be careful. )

PH???
# Aug 15 2001 at 1:29 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I see these post saying he has no PH, but were you the only ones in zone killing things? I've spent numerous game days and nights in the locations listed and have only seen Thistle once. Thaat was when a 51 druid was in zone and killing Brownie Scouts between Thistle spawns. He left the zone and I never saw Thistle again as I was the only one in the zone and only level 35 so I can't kill Brownie Scouts. I've tried tracking durring the day at night from pos 500 pos 500, pos 500 neg 500, Ranger camp, running around the zone.... Am I just the unluckiest person in the game, or are other people killing Brownie Scouts while you people who say there is no PH are looking for Thistle?

EDIT:
I am just the unluckiest, camped him again today after the patch and got Cords on third kill. Finally!!!

Talk about being unlucky. I had him on track and was headed straight for him when the corrupted horse attacked me. A 46 wizard was in the zone at the time so he helped me take the horse out, who runs away very fast and rather early unlike most other stuff you get down to almost dead then they turn, she was almost full life when she turned to run. Anyway before we got done chasing her around trying to kill her he either got killed by the rangers at the hut or just despawned and after killing Happ and Brownies for two hours NADA, nothing, zip, zero, zilch, no more Thistle. wtf is up with that? I just wanted the rune so I could do the ivy tunic quest for a low level friends ranger whose corpse rotted. *sigh* Am I the only one this has ever happened to?

I was hunting Thistle this morning. Got him on track in the mistmoore tunnel. Took him down no sweat.

Ran to the Ranger station to med, got hit my that stupid Equestrielle the Corrupted, and the rangers didnt lift a finger.

Did the CR and got thistle on track at the ranger station, I was medding up and Thistle got too close so the whole ranger guild jumped him. Then the stupid horse hit me again.

Thistle seems to respawn about every 5 or 10 mins. Was hard to gauge since I can only track half the forest and the CR didnt make it any easier.
RE: PH???
# Aug 21 2001 at 8:52 AM Rating: Decent
I don't believe there's a PH. I've killed him and have had him respawn fairly quickly without me doing anything else (and when the zone was empty but for myself). Of course, I've also camped in the zone for an hour without ever seeing him.

I usually have my best luck finding him on track when I'm near the Ranger NPC camp. But, I've seen him near the zones for Steamfont, Greater Faydark and Mistmore.

One heads up. I thought I was safe from brownies in wolf form, but they don't take kindly to you attacking Thistle when they are around. Found that out the hard way.
Got him.
# Aug 14 2001 at 1:23 AM Rating: Default
As a level 25 druid, I saw him on track and decided, "What the heck, I'll try for the cords." He wasted me. High magic resistance.

Soon after I got my corpse back, I headed to Mistmoore and saw him finish off a level 40 ranger. Fortunately, he was down to about 30% health, and I finished HIM off. Got the rune but no cords. Hopefully I can multiquest the tunic with the ranger.

He doesn't have high magic resistance. You just had some bad luck. He's very killable (though very tough) for a decently equipped level 25 druid.

There is no Placeholder for Thistle. Spawns randomly usaully around 4am and pm in game time. I have killed 3 times in about 5 minutes and had to wait a game day before he appeared again. Best spot to hang out is near 500, 500 at the orc camp or the elf buildings. And it is best that you have wolf form or the brownies will tap you on the shoulder and wipe the dirt path with you.

I got my cords and am happy now )

I found him on tracking last night. It took a while to catch him as he runs at SOW speed. He does not 'seem' to follow any consistant route and double backs. The only reason I caught up with him was that he had stopped for some reason.

I backed off, hit him with Ensnare(to slow him down), ensnaring root(to hold him in place), and then continous Combust until dead.

No Braided Ivy Cord, darn ;-(. Maybe next time.

He had the Pouch of Mistletoe Powder and Brownie parts as part of the loot. YES, now I can make some brownies to eat!

He did hit me with Swarm, so be aware. You may need to heal yourself after the fight.

You will get those Cords. If you have time, just camp the zone, if not, when you are away from GFay and plan to go back to Kelethin, port in through Steamfont. That way you can always check to see if Thistle is up on the way to Kelethin.

Good luck!

Well, after a full night of unssuccessful camping this little SOB, i decided to quit.... so i camped, logged back on the next day, and checked track...... Guess who was on? hehe, anyways, i dropped Skin like Steel on, Resist fire, and ran over to kick im in the ***... So we get to fighting, it's an even fight, and i end up winning. BUT, my *idiot* brother was messing with my spell setup or something (grin) and i didnt have heal memmed.... so i died from his f*in dot. DOH!

Anyways, i proceeded to camp Thistle for the last 3-4 days or so, and i've killed him 11 times so far... 1 BIC, loads of the mistletoe powder, and guildies are loving me for the brownie parts =)

Anyways, here is the EASIEST way to camp him...

Get into Lfay at about 7pm EQ time... Thistle VERY RARELY spawns during the daytime.... sit in Lfay until 9pm, either at pos 500/500, or at the wood elf camp. If Thistle doesnt show up on track between 7 and 9, Don't even bother sitting there. Either try to make a circuit around Lfay, tracking all the way, or head back to Kelethin to jump off the platforms s'more.....

Anyways, if you see him on track, throw on SLS, Resist Fire, and run him down. He shouldn't be to hard, he only uses swarm, a weak ignite (if you have RF on) and root.... hell, his root does more damage than his ignite =) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ENSNARE HIM!!! Even in wolf form (which is considerably faster than SoW) i had trouble keeping up with him... i.e. it was hard to get enuff of a lead to cast snare =)

my spell lineup is normally Crud/immolate, ensnare, combust combust combust heal combust =)

Aint too hard.. After you've killed him, sit RIGHT on top of his corpse and med up... ASAP dont even bother to check track yet. When you get full mana, he *SHOULD* be back on track... if not, run back to the wood elf camp, tracking all the way.
Repeat this until about 6-8AM eq time, then dont even bother to sit in the zone... normally i camp him all night, then hop over to Gfay and either jump off platforms for a while, or see if anyone needs a port.... but if you port ppl around, be sure to have FM by 7pm eq time =)

Good luck, those BICs are NICE! 11 kills, and i've only gotten one, dammit =(

To the person who planned to use Amagonna Getsumm as a name in the Brell server: DO NOT USE THAT NAME.

GM says it is against naming policy and changed it. I had this name till about level 35. I admitted to GM that indeed, it is against naming policy and apologized for it. But, it was good to have a name like that for 35 seasons. Hehe.

Am now a level 50 wood elf druid.
I have a different name that I am happy with.
No surname anymore though.

Hope you read this in time.
2 Days of Hunting Thistle
# Jul 10 2001 at 4:18 PM Rating: Default
I was hunting Thistle and ghasts in LFay for a couple of game nights. Killed Thistle about 5 times. Here's the info I gathered:

Spawn - It doesn't have a fixed spawn point. It spawns in the area south of the Gfay zone. For me, it spawned shortly after I killed it during the night, but I didn't see it spawn at all during the day.

Attack - It usually starts by casting a DOT. Didn't get a chance to see if it was Stinging Swarm or Creep Crud. It then likes to run in and whack you a couple of times before chain casting Ignite (37 dmg). Occasionally it'll root you as well.

HP - It took me 1 Calefaction (450 dmg) and 2 Fury of Air to take it down (250 dmg). So I would say it has around 900 HP.

Loot - I got the Ivory Chord on my fifth kill. Read from somewhere that it looks like a chord, but appearently Verant has changed it to look like leather in the inventory.

After I got my Chord, I saw it spawned again, so I got greedy and decided to try my luck on another one. Only this time a brownie scout added in. And yes I was in wolf form, but that didn't help. Brownie scout killed me with Combust (191 dmg) as I was on the run to zone. Lost my lvl 44, but at least I got my Chord. =)

Thistle does not, i repeat does not have a PH. I've helped a 34 druid, a 39druid, and a 40 druid. While with the 40 druid, we killed brownie outcasts so i could get arrows for ivy etched leggings. I checked track quite often, he wasn't on even when there were no brownie outcasts. With both the 34 and 39 druid, i waited for over 2 hours each before i got tired and logged. This leads me to believe that Thistle is a completely random spawn and has nothing to do with place holders. I hope this helps.

I think he does have a PH, just not outcasts. Many a time I would zone in from GFay check track, see him, and notify the druids in the zone. IT is possible that scouts are his PH, but im not sure.

Sorry you feel that way Imos, Fact is, try to find something else that is this easy to obtain that will increase your wisdom this much, it is not an easy task. And I am sure Thistle is difficult to kill for players that are not very experienced. It is funny a high group of 20's and a 30 had this much trouble when he can be soloed by a Druid of the 30th season easily.

Well finally went last night. Took me 3 times to kill him. I'm a 29 druid. Used sls, wolf form(a must) endure fire. And casted combust 2x then snare(optional but he runs real fast when he gets low) and continued with combust then finished with lightning. He casts creeping crud and ignite mostly and hits pretty hard considering his size. I usually had 2 bulbs of health and 2 mana left. I gated after each battle (bound on gfay side) and medded. He is a pretty fast spawn. If you're not a druid good luck finding and killing this guy cause he's real fast and w/o wolf form brownies WILL attack you.
Never saw his brother though.
And alway be oriented with where you are Equeslelle (sp) the corrupted can see through invis and he hates druids. I had to run from him twice. I just sat at 400, 600 til he spawned.
He's a pretty hard kill for his lvl
# Jun 01 2001 at 9:50 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl29 Druid, have killed him 7 or 8 times today and got 2 Ivy Cords and Pouch of Mistletoe Powder every other kill. He casts Creeping crud and ensnaring roots as well as Combust(or Ignite), every thime I killed him I had about 1 2 bubble left of HPs and 2-3 bubbles of mana. Every time I would kill him I would go to the elven camp(where there is a person who sells beer) and med all the way up, then when done he sometimes on track already, but sometimes it takes over an hour for him to spawn again. Good Luck killing him.

I was a 29 Ranger (untwinked) at the time and kicked this guy's A$$. Snare him, melee and nuke. He's history. Got the rune, now I just need Meldrath's skull. Needless to say I wont solo that guy.
Thistle took about 2.5 bubbles of health and almost all my mana. But he's not as tough as some of you are saying in your messages. And i only had my Ranger buffs on me at the time: stone skin, thistlecoat, agility & firefist.
Thistle pros cons
# May 13 2001 at 10:56 PM Rating: Default
Thistle seems spawn within minute of his death. This has happened 90% of time I camped LFay for quest and tradeskill parts. He roams at sow speed all over the zone, but sit in middle and you can always track him.

Off top my head, he uses ignite, creeping crud, then bunch of enveloping roots. At lvl 42 druid, he goes down in 3 consecutive dd's. I guesstimate his hps at 800. Other brownies will try to help him, so speed is usually best tactic and keep gate ready. He can run away real fast once near death, so save a nuke. Always drops brownie parts & Rune of ivy. dropped braids 20% time, pouch 90% time.

# May 10 2001 at 4:01 PM Rating: Default
I have killed Thistle 10 times at level 30. He has never dropped the cords.

His primary nuke is ignite, so be sure to cast resist fire.

I would not suggest fighting him until you get your level 29 Combust nuke. He will not aggro on you, so start by DoTting him, and then Combust Combust Combust.

Also, this zone is very dangerous if you are not at least mid 20s. The brownie scouts (about level 50) will aggro on sight unless you are in wolf form.

Well, after a couple of weeks of hunting Thistle and Bracken I thought I would report my findings. I get brownie parts each time I kill one of them and I have about sixty if anyone needs any. I started hunting thistle when I was lvl 28 and it would take almost all my mana at 150 wis and usually all but 20 percent of my health. He roots, dots, blasts with fire. I would say under lvl 28 not to go after him unless you have very high wisdom. He drops the cords about one out of five or six kills it seems. I cast immolate to start and then just blast. dont worry with root or snare because he will stay in range. He is completely random, you may not see him for hours or you may see him seconds after you kill him. And he can be anywhere in the zone. Good luck.
