Master Vule the Silent Tear

Raid Encounter
Screenshot

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

Vule is located at the base of the spire in Dreadspire Keep.

  • Maximum hit: 3.2k
  • HP Estimate: 5 million
  • Slowable: Yes
  • Single-Target Rampages: Yes
  • AE Rampages: Yes
  • Mob sees through invisibility: Yes
  • Sees through Shroud of Stealth: No

The raid should be set up with 4 groups designated for Vule's hate list (24 people), and 7-12 players designated as the "click group" (more on this in a moment).

Only 24 people may be on Vule's hate list at any one time (the usual tank/heal/DPS spread of players). If a 25th person joins the hate list, the person with the most hate will be banished to Stoneroot Falls.

In the room is a crescent shaped stone with a "lever" attached to it. While Vule is engaged, the 12 gargoyles around the room's perimeter must be tended to using this device. This is where the "click group" comes in. The gargoyles are numbered clockwise (the first one to the right of the balcony is #1 and the one to the left of the balcony is #12). One player is responsible for positioning the crescent stone and letting the others know when to click the lever. The other 6-11 are responsible for pulling the lever when told to do so.

Randomly, one gargoyle at a time will turn red. The player responsible for the crescent stone must point it at the red gargoyle (this is done by clicking on the stone X number of times -- ie. if gargoyle #7 is red, click the stone 7 times). Once the stone is properly positioned, this person needs to let the rest of the "click group" know it's ready. Once given the call, on pull the wooden lever.

If this process succeeds, the room will shake. If this process fails, the red gargoyle will deathtouch a random person on Vule's hate list.

Note: The people responsible for clicking the stone and lever should NOT be on Vule's hate list at any time.

Parses show that Vule has around 5 million hit points. On a TLP when you doing this in era, save your burns for the end when the DT rate speeds up.

As of january 17, 2018 update this raid is now instanced. To request it hail the npc Margaret Hill (roams in the rooms before Vule's chamber) and follow the dialogue. You must have 6 actual players in group/raid to request this.

Just took this on solo as a 103 mage with so-so group gear. I stuck my pet on Vule and kept him healed between nukes. I didn't bother with the levers or gargoyles and focused on keeping my pet alive and throwing nukes.

Based on our experiences on Phinny.

Callers: Each raid should have one caller and one backup in the event that your caller gets DT'd.
- The spell effect (Chloroplast) that identifies the beam moves clockwise around the room.
- Monitor the gargoyles that are ahead of the RED gargoyle to know when you are close to selecting the red one (and slow down your clicks)...
- Once the gargoyle is deactivated (Red -> Grey), announce to your channel who is up NEXT to click (this helps people get prepared to click)...
- Watch your agro

Tanks:
- Position the mob at 3:00 or 9:00 (East or West Cubbies)
- This is so that your clickers don't accidentally click the Crescent instead of the Lever.
- Establish ST Rampage
- Call for cures when you get the Mez (Cleric 2.0 / Purify / Pure Spirit (SHM) / Radiant Cure.)
- After you are unmezzed you will need to re-establish threat.

Range DPS / Healers:
- Stand near the Lever and wait for the Caller to tell you to click.
- Make sure you click the TIP of the lever. Clicking the Crescent Moon shaped device is BAD unless you are the caller.

Melee DPS:
- Watch threat, there's a memblur component on your tanks.
- WILD Ramp - max melee range.

(Thanks Xeon)

Burned him as a 100 SK.

Got him to 0% before I got hit by too many DTs too quickly and died. The DTs do ~62k each, so you can ignore them and heal through. I just got hit by one after the other right at 0%.

ok once you do the other quest and you loot the eye you can flagg 5 others that havent done the other quest right? my question is can that same person keep looting the eye over and over and flagg more then just the first 5?
?
# Feb 19 2008 at 7:35 AM Rating: Decent
No you can't keep re-flagging with the same toon, because you need to turn in the Lens of Bound Eyes to finish the quest turn-in

Master Vule the Silent Tear event is a P.I.T.A. to win, but once you get the strategy down it gets easier. To flag 60 people, you would need to kill Vule 5 times (he drops 2 eyes each time), and you would need 10 people to do all the previous quests to be able to hand in the eye. Since there isn't a strategy for him anywhere I can find, I'll tell you how we did it.

First off, Vule has a limit of 24 people for his hatelist. This does not mean person 25+ will simply get ignored, they get booted to Stoneroot Falls. Taking this into consideration, the raid should still consist of at least 42 people, and even that is cutting it a bit close.

The setup should be something like this:
24 people for DPS on Vule, 12 people for clicking, 6 people for standby in case of tank deaths. Preferably there should be an additional 2-3 clerics for rezzes during the battle. Raid Leader for the fight should be someone who is not fighting, so that RL can shift people in and out of groups based on deaths and aggro.

The 2 groups of clickers should NEVER EVER get aggro. The main thing to remember in regards to that are AE beneficial spells, including auras. Any AE buff cast that affects the clicker group will result in them getting aggro, which in turn will either get them killed, or banished to Stoneroot Falls. Either of those will mean a wipe of the entire raid.

IF the clicker groups should get aggro, this should be announced in group, and one or more of the rezzer clerics should attempt to camp out to be available for rezzes when the event resets.

In case of a failiure, Vule and his gargoyles despawn and the event resets in 10 minutes.

As for the strategy, this is how we did it:
Paladin pulled Vule from balcony and into the #1 alcove for a corner pin. Tanks fighting for aggro at all times, since Vule charms/memblurs. As soon as Vule was pinned, DPS moved in and burned him down. The actual fight is quick and easy with enough DPS. The hard part is managing the gargoyles.

Clicker groups: all must be able to communicate with each other so make a channel (vuleclickers:click for example) and have all the clickers join this channel. What the clicker groups are doing is they are managing a mirror which will deflect a "death ray" emitted by the 'a twisted gargoyle' mobs that line the walls.

There are 12 gargoyles and they are numbered clockwise, so the first one
to the right of the balcony is #1 and the one to the left of the balcony is #12. The way you manage this mirror is by turning it with a lever. Once you enter Vule's room, you will notice a large stone in the middle of the room with a crescent moon on top and a wooden lever sticking out of it. This is what the clicker groups will concentrate on.

ONE person is designated to click the STONE. This moves the mirror to the correct position. The way to know the correct position is by watching the gargoyles. When one of them is about to fire its "death ray" it will turn red. The number of the gargoyle is then announced to the designated STONE clicker, who then clicks the stone the correct amount of times. There are emotes in yellow for which position the mirror is in, so no need to keep count. The person clicking the stone must be someone with a cool head, as you can't click too fast or you might click past the correct position, and if you click too slow, someone will die.

Now when the mirror is in the correct position, it needs to be activated by
clicking the WOODEN LEVER. This is where the other 11 people come in. The person clicking the STONE needs to announce in channel the name of the person next in line for clicking the LEVER.

Example: Gargoyle 7 turns red. /# 7 is then announced in channel (# meaning the channel number). The person designated to click the STONE then clicks until the message tells him/her that the mirror is directed towards position 7. He/She then announces in channel the name of the person to click the LEVER (/# SPONGEBOB for instance). This person then clicks the lever to deflect the "death ray".

What worked best for us was to have each person in the clicker groups assigned three gargoyles to watch, so 1-2-3, 4-5-6, 7-8-9 and 10-11-12 are always covered by the clicker groups. Each member of the clicker groups should position themselves so that they can easily see their gargoyles and still be in a position where they can click the lever when it's their turn. I found that scrolling back to third person view worked real well as I could then stand with the lever behind me but could still click it; also line of sight was less of an issue as I got a wider view with third person.

The 12 people in the clicker groups must NEVER take any aggressive action towards Vule or the gargoyles. No AE buffs, no heals, no dps, nothing. The ONLY thing those 12 people should be concerned with is the clicking.

Now, the reason there needs to be 12 people clicking is because there is a 2(?) minute lockout on the lever. I never did time it exactly, but I believe it is somewhere in the range of 2-3 minutes. If you have lockout and you click the lever you will get a message saying you are too fatigued to pull the lever. So in case the gargoyles turn red very quickly, there needs to be enough people available for the clicking so that the lockout has time to wear off.

Since Vule is undead, it is wise to put all available Paladins, Shadow Knights and Necromancers on DPS, in addition to the usual suspects. If the clicking is done correctly, the fight itself should not last more than 5-10 minutes, depending on DPS.

The majority of your strategy is correct except for

"First off, Vule has a limit of 24 people for his hatelist. This does not mean person 25+ will simply get ignored, they get booted to Stoneroot Falls. Taking this into consideration, the raid should still consist of at least 42 people, and even that is cutting it a bit close. "

That is incorrect. Person 25+ does not get booted to Stoneroot Falls. Person 25+ causes someone in 1-24 to get deathtouched, and it is completely random who does.

Also, max hit over a full raid is just around 5k. Average hit over a 6:53 fight around 1140 using a one Warrior and one Pally to handle tanking duties.

DPS against tanks over the full fight was around 700, which is easily manageable.

If a 25th person gets on the agro list, the one being banished will be your MT. I've always been the first one banished if someone makes a mistake. If more people get banished, then you simply have more than one extra person getting on the agro list.

Sorry, but the strat poster is right.
Only 24 allowed on hatelist, or people start getting booted out of the zone.
The deathtouch comes from not shooting the golems fast enough when needed. Then someone 1-24 will randomly get dt'd.
That's why the cannon team should never get on Thule's hatelist.

Care to elaborate on where this info is? So far I see a lot of comments on this page from people who've killed him, but absolutely nothing about how it was done.

Most of the Gargoyles turn red and the lever has to be clicked in the right position for them. I have noticed lately that a few turn light skyblue. Does anyone know if these have to be clicked also or what they are for or what happens if the lever is clicked on them?
