Am I missing something here? Says this fella is for the Magician Epic but the mob in Kedge Keep that drops a piece for teh Mage Epic is Undertow. Did Verant move the Blazing Wand off of Phinigel and onto Undertow a while back? Maybe I'm just missing something here but I can't see what it is.
w00 this guy is fun to kill. I walked into DC, hoping Phin wasnt up so i could get my dusty fingerbone for divine might, and it turns out there are some ppl raiding phin! so i asked to tag along and they said ok. they had all died cuz the cleric horsies healed him the first time. So the ppl that died got rezzes...the mage hooked every1 up with waterstones, and the other mage CoH's everyone that lived to the ledge. fatty troll warrior d00d pulled all his seahorse buddies, then phin himself. i dont think the cleric had to heal, he went down in like half a minute. didnt drop anything good though =( too bad. o well, it was fun.
ok...... he's, he's, he's a fish. he's a gigantic fish. in, a robe. but he has human fists. ok if i was underwater in a zone i knew nothin aobut <Kedge> this guy would freak me out
at level 60 a SK can invis his way to phinny lair in about 20 seconds, snare phingel, get a coh, then fd when phinny and 1 maybe 2 adds teleport to him. just FD off the adds and you have pulled phinny to zone, alone, in less than 2 minutes of entering the zone. did this and it worked hillariously well, used same technique and he pulled all the names in the zone, solo, to the zonein.
Hmmmm.... last I knew CotH erased aggro on a mob, therefore how is Phinny gonna keep coming after the CotH to the SK? Sorry but I believe you are just guessing here
Because the SK snare (Darkness line) is also a DoT. While the CotH erases immediate aggro, the DoT will begin building it up again with the next tick it's active.
Thus, while CotH erases any immediate aggro, it will remain active for quite awhile, continuing to damage the mob and build fresh aggro. (So long as the SK isn't Feigned for the whole duration.)
The only problem I see with this is that Phinigel would then (most likely) summon the SK to him, rather than follow him all the way to the zone line.
Phinigel Autropos is the last of the Kedge race. He apparently immortal and undying. The journals of Al'Kabor can give further information if you desire to dig through the EverQuest official site.
Pulling Phinny to zone ..... solo ..... no horsies
All you need is one hammerhead cow aka boevine(59 monk). We killed him rather quickly, with minimal trouble, and no deaths ... with 8 people:
59 martial arts livestock 54 wizard 53 batman (aka Gizard da trollie warrior) 54 combat medic (aka little dorf buddie) 51 druid 60 fear break soloist (aka mozuz the madmage) 54 water stone man (dorf's friend who came along) 60 cleric on standby, in case the cow was tipped
well needless to say, the cow pulled the fish to zone, with no adds ... great pull btw Boe. Fishy droped me stick ... i ran around for a half hour ... came back with a brand new shiny staff, and killed the tainted and corrupted for me druid buddy. all in all an easy kill. went smooth, with no death. and did it with only a handful of people
I took him down with a group of 4 the other day. One wizard (58), one warrior(60, epics), one enchanter(60) and one cleric(57). Enchanters can single pull him with Tash after you clear the guardians that spawn out on the corners.
Indeed there is a background story on the fusible ores in the Journal of Al'Kabor it can however be a bit difficult to see their uses from that alone. The ores are part of a quest for an item called Strength of the Elements, which I didn't find listed at the Allakhazam site, therefore I will give a short recap of the quest here.
Go to WW and find a roaming npc named Makil Raron, I believe he is mentioned in the Journal as one of Al'Kabors assistents. Hail him and answer all the prompts and he will give you a container in which to combine all the different ores. There are 4 different ores, fusible coral ore (drops of Phinny in Kedge), fusible earthen ore (drops of Master Yael in The Hole), fusible velium ore (drops of Guardian Kozzalym in WW) and fusible igneous ore which is a ground spawn in Skyfire at loc pos900, neg1500. The igneous ore looks like red lumps of glowing matter. All ores collected, combine them in the container and hand in the end result.
Quest reward is a shoulder piece called Strength of the Elements, AC15, STR15, SV COLD 15, SV FIRE 15, HP100, ALL/ALL. Amazing shoulder piece, the ores go foremost to melees though and plate classes primarily.
Allakhazam doesn's seem to have received the quest or the ores (earthen ore isn's listed as a drop under Master Yael or in the equip part of the zone) so I'll post the above under Master Yael too. Good luck with your questing folks =)
Thank you so very much Kamlatir. I was lucky enough to recieve the coral earlier tonight, and at that time I did not know what it was for other than "some shoulder item". After talking to friends in-game and doing some research on the boards, I found your post. THank you for sharing the info. I was absolutely stunned by what a great item this is, and can't wait to finish this quest! (already went and got the box in WW, guardian wasn't up :( and got the ore from SkyFire. Only Yael and the WW Guardian to go!)
Thanks again, Sammah 58.6 Rogue Heaven and Earth Saryrn
Read the Journal of Al'Kabar on the EverQuest website, it should tell you about these fusible elements. I believe it has to do with the SoL, though I could be wrong.
my guild was in and out to kill this guy in no time...zoned in about 5 minutes after everyone zoned and made groups he was dead and we were porting out
The less people the better... I may not be right on this but from my exp we had a 4 group raid it was chaos...people kept drowning, getting lost etc etc... we died so damn fast. We then tried 2 groups wayyyyyyyy more organized, we got rid of the idiots with us who would drown, we pulled seahorses in pairs, killed em then pulled phinny about a 15 second fight EASY AS ***!!! ....but my damn backbone didn't drop =( 53rd bard bristlebane
Invised everyone and followed path to the shark room entrance, re-invised everyone and continued to the Ledge. Showed Everyone the Ledge and went back down into the passageway. 1 Monk was puller 1 Warrior was the splitter If more than 2 showed up, both die, rez, try again All pets in passageway then summoned to ledge Nobody goes past ledge lip Warrior Calls everyone up to fight from passageway.
Killed all of the Seahorses and then killed phinny quickly. Got the druid and the bard epic piece and trident then ported out...
10 55+ died that morning from another guild 16 48+ killed him that evening (us) no deaths
what works best with him is 2 tanks 3 druids and a cleric 1 group, pull phinny and the 3 guardiand each druid charms a guardian and has it attack phinny 1 dead phinny in about 2 mins
ok, heres how im going to break it down. this guy is so easy to kill, get tank 2 wiz's and healer and he will go down less then 5 mins, or LESS. dont make him out to be a RAID mob. cause i pretty much soloed him, 53 monk. so =P
The Kedge are one of the first races ever that walked (swimmed :p) Norrath. They were created by Prexus to the same time as the elves, during the first pact of the gods as they decided to keep an eye on Veeshan and her brood. All that is known about the Kedge is that they were masters of magic, of high intellect and of great stamina, thus the perfect magic wielders. None knows for sure what happened to them, there's a rumor though that Phinigel himself tried to turn his race permanently invulnerable so they couldn't be harmed by the lesser races and would life for eternity, seems like something went horribly wrong (maybe like this story of this greek king who had a wish and wished everything he touches turns to gold, at the end he starved and thirsted to death because even the food he touched turned to gold), the only remains of this glorious race and their culture is Phinigel himself and the Kedge Keep in Dagnors Cauldron.
Well, today i was down by phini's lair and did not see him casting any spells which you will normally see. I was told at one point he is either a 12 or 15 hour spawn and is sometimes overly camped. I went in one weekend and this one guy had been in kedge for about a week straight camping phini. I went down there today and he was not camped so I took up camp and realizing he would not spawn for another 3-6 hours i figured it was time to hit the sack. If someone could tell me the exact spawn rate of Phini I need to work on my epic and need the Blue Crystal Stave from him i would much appreciate it thank you very much.
