Suled Dar's Shade

Raid Encounter

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

Hits for ~2000; AE rampages.

Procs a significant knockback which can launch Suled's target across the zone if not positioned properly.

Did him with 4 tonight.

Took 3 tries because he kept flinging us all so far away that by the time we got back, he was deaggroed and in uber regen mode.
Basically it came down to burning discs and praying that you didn't get flung before it ran out.

80 war, 80 sk, 80 cleric (who did almost nothing), 80 rogue (who got stuck halfway through the fight).

The cleric kept dying from 20k fall damage. Fortunately, the warrior didn't need much healing. Potions are enough for a demi geared war. Just be sure not to use HoT potions because they will be dispelled.

The event becomes much, much easier if you have a bard in the group playing levitate.

Be prepared to fight this guy buffless. That four-slot dispell is mean, and hard to resist.

He is NOT a belly caster; just very resistant. He has AE rampage. Despite his name, he is NOT undead.

You have to talk to Dry Sapara before you click the globes; otherwise, the event won't start.

He is a belly caster. I just raided him. He resisted every lifetap I threw at him until I sat under him, upon which I landed every lifetap.

I doubt it. The AoE has such a wide berth it would probably hit him. I'm sure he summons too

At max ranged archery I was still in range of the Infinite Mass spell. By trying to stay at max ranged was much more successful of being out of range of hitting him, than he was of hitting me!

It'd be easier to just raise resists as high as you can, and dps him down normally.

Seemed like a bit of Overkill.

Can probably be 4 grouped, with a good set up of classes in Elem/OoW/DoN gear, with an average of 68-69.

Started with only a group of us, ran the text with Sapara, spawned the Shade.

Guildies started loggin on, soon enough there were 37 of us in zone, raid average was 69.

Took about an hour to get folks there and set up from the time he was popped.

Warrior MT, 12k/2100ac or so, with a good supply of clerics for CH cycle.

Mob is perma-rooted, near edge of lava. With bard-song, seasons, DMF + resist disc (resists were topped out at 350 or so), the AE landed mebbe once on me.

Have pallies with group heals, MGB heals from non-MH clr/dru, and good CH cycle for MT. RGC supposedly removes dot, but he dropped so fast no one ever needed it. Mob went down in mebbe 2-3 minutes tops.

Forgot to test undead nuke on it unfortunately /shrug.

Shade's corpse rots quickly after death (same as any non-loot mob).

The chests spawned at the top of the plateau nearest the lava where Suled was spawned. 48 key parts in the chests total, and all had 29min timers on them.

edit~ almost forgot, 4 slot debuff kept me busy with clickies, and by fight's end I was stripped completely buffless (got tired of spammin em lol), but again, he hasn't much HP, so it didn't make much difference in the end :)

Also, he did banish some folks to distant parts of the zone, for myself, I was transported once, toward end of fight just a few feet away over the lava (<3 DMF).

Its pretty much a 100% burn fight. Cannot cast on him unless within melee range and he rampages alot. He doesnt have alot of HP compared to most raid mobs so burn him as fast as you can the longer he is up the more AE your raid is getting hit with and more deaths you end up with.
Straight Burn-it-Down Fight
# Feb 04 2005 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
Pickup Raid of 50 people (all level 65-70)killed him on Mithaniel Marr yesterday, a total of 5 people died during the fight.

He does not have many HP, in fact less HP than Rydda Dar in HoH. Just burn it down quickly.

Strike of Solusek (Fire Nuke) failed to land on him completely, so i guess he is completely immune to fire-based spells. My magic nukes landed 100% of the time for full damage though.

To make this easier for everyone, here is what I have found here or elsewhere, on this mob:

To spawn Suled Dar's Shade you must do the following:

1. Have 4 people go to the "Dragon statues" around the zone. These are located at the following locs:
SouthEast Globe Loc: Neg 2166, Neg 3551
SouthWest Globe Loc: Neg 3277, Pos 2763
NorthEast Globe Loc: Pos 3015, Neg 3337
NorthWest Globe Loc: Pos 2358, Pos 2972 (top of Veeshan's Peak)

2. Have one person go to Dry Sapara (at the VP entrance) and say "ready". There are 5 mobs that roam near here, so have an FD or invis class do this.

3. The 4 persons must then click on the Globes on the Dragon Statue in the next 5 seconds to trigger the spawn of Suled Dar's Shade at the NE corner of the Lava lake in the center.

4. Recommended to have the raid waiting at Pos 830 Neg 170 where he spawns.

Suled Dar's Shade
Mob Notes:
lvl 75
Max Hit 2.5k
PBAE Rampage
Slowable: Yes (magic tested, disease unknown)
Crippleable: Yes
Resists: No specific resists noted, but Fire not tested since we went all Cold/Disease/Poison/Magic on a mob from a zone named SkyFIRE.

Shock Breath AE (range 400, -300 SvM, 24 sec recast)
1. Decrease HPs by 2000
2. 4 buff slot dispell

Infinite Mass AE (range 200, -200 SvPrismatic?, 48 sec recast):
1. Increase Curse Counter by 24
2. Decrease Movement by 65%
3. Decrease Mana by 200/tick.

Infinite Mass AE can be cured by RGC or Group Cure AA. If you have high enough raid DPS, you won't need to setup an RGC rotation because he will be dead before casters go OOM, otherwise plan ahead.

Strongly suspected that he is an old world belly caster, meaning that nukers and debuffers have to be under his belly for it to land.

He PBAE Rampages. Supposedly there is a limited number he can hit, but if a caster gets hit, they will want to step out of PBAE Rampage range and get healed before going back in.

It is recommended to have a cleric in each group with their Group Heal loaded so they can heal from the 2k AE. Paladins also have a group heal spell (significantly lower HP heal), so they can help out as well.

Killing SDS spawns 8 Treasure chests (each holding 6 books each, so 48 VP keys). One note on this was that they are like LDON chests in the sense that if you are on a hate list, you won't be able to open/loot a book from them. If this happens, camp and login again to clear it.

Respawning SDS. If you fail he stays up a long time before despawning (never timed it). If you succeed, others experiences suggest it will be somewhere between 24-48 hours before he can be spawned again.

Prismatic mean all the resist are checked and used for resisted. So all need to be 200+ for resisting. Psalm of Veeshan can be tagged as prismatic resist song.

Some Notes
# Aug 26 2004 at 8:37 PM Rating: Good
Hey.. just took this guy down on Rallos Zek.
There were about 60 lvl 65's, mostly pretty elite. He went down in under three minutes (I'm a bad judge of time, though I know that much..if I had to guess, I'd say 60 seconds, give or take).
In his life span, he used Shock Breath three times.. first at 87%, then again at 63% and finally at about 53% (all approximates). He used Infinite Mass pretty late in the fight, though he died rather fast after hitting 50% life, so its hard to say when exactly.

I don't understand exactly why, though we had a Ranger dettachment engage him first. We got the engage message, seemingly pretty quickly, after a Chanter had run up and slowed him. He was about about 90 or 91% life by the time I targeted him, before the rest engaded.

Before the fight, groupies were talking about their 499 and 500 MR ratings. Haha, I have no where near that. Surprisingly enough, though, no one seemed to resist his Shock Breath. It was hard to tell on the Infinite Mass.

Red to 65, of course. (Posted levels aren't always accurate, though 75 would seem to fit this guy.. Allakhazam's rates MOBs red to the level cap by difficulty, actual level isn't generally known.)

At first, only those with the Veeshan's Peak key were allowed to loot the treasure chests with the "A Worn and Ancient Book", though, in the end, it seems everyone that needed one got one. The chests seemed to be plentiful in their drops (keep in mind, about 60 people in this raid.)

I don't think anyone died, though its quite possible rezzes came more swiftly than the dragon died.

All in all, a pretty easy battle for such a size of a raid force. I suspect he was designed to allow smaller raid forces success, as well.

As a closing note, and perhaps something of a complaint.. Sony's lean towards raids in place of smaller groups and even group sizes that Verant once encouraged is rather annoying and leads to raids like this. A group couldn't have taken this guy, though the 60 people took about half an hour to gather, the battle took three minutes at most, and the looting and giving people rides to PoK took another ten minutes, not to mention how long it must've taken for the guilds to have planned and gotten people on for, pushing things in their lives asside.

Oh, yeah, and one more thing.. just a small note many know already. His death spawned "corpses" of treasure chests. Each had the "A Worn and Ancient Book"'s in them..I'd guestimate, what, six each? No other loot.

Good luck guys.
Rangers to the Rescue?
# Aug 19 2004 at 11:17 AM Rating: Decent
Since the Shade's AOE spells are 400 feet out, and most rangers use the Time or Elemental bows (all of which have a range of 220 feet) plus Blessed Champion/Guardian arrows (range of 170), looks like we'd normally be in AOE range. However, there are several bows with ranges > 230 feet:

Blessed Faydark Thunderbolt
Bow of Doom
Bow of Shadows
Bow of Storms
Eternal Tempest Compound Bow
Ornate Abalone Recurve Bow
Warmaster's Recurved Longbow

The BFT and ETC bows are 30/38, but all the others are above, at, or near 1:1 ratios, so they should do entirely reasonable DPS from range.
RE: Rangers to the Rescue?
# Aug 27 2004 at 11:56 AM Rating: Decent
I have a Warmaster's Recurved Longbow (Range 250) and a Blessed Mithril Champion Arrow (Range 170). My combined range is 420. During my first fight with Suled Dar, I inched forward just enough until my arrows were able to land (and I stopped getting the out of range message). The AE dispell was able to land on me, and I fell into the lava!

So I don't know, either our range is broken, or the AE range is more than 400?
RE: Rangers to the Rescue?
# Sep 11 2004 at 2:28 AM Rating: Decent
I there there is something where you cant hit him from more than 400 range. I did him today and I wasn't getting too far away message, but I shot like 50 arrows and none hit. I didnt even get aggro because we wiped and he left me alone. So for this one go in close to get the group heals, because you cant get away from AE.
Killed with 40.

Killed Suled'Dar Shade with 40 people. About 1 group was Time/GoD equipped, the rest were low end.

To Spawn Suled'Dar Shade, you will need someone with quick feet or a quick horse. Bard or High-End Horse person. Have one of them run to each globe in the zone.

SouthEast Globe Loc: Neg 2166, Neg 3551
SouthWest Globe Loc: Neg 3277, Pos 2763
NorthEast Globe Loc: Pos 3015, Neg 3337
NorthWest Globe Loc: Pos 2358, Pos 2972

Note: NorthWest Globe is on top of Veeshan's Peek.

Once you have your people in position, and afte r the keywords have been spoken to the Dry Sapara... Have ALL FOUR people click the globes at the same time. If done correctly, you will hear a zone-wide shout.. and the shade will spawn.

Make sure your raid isn't close to his spawn point. I suggest keeping the raid at Pos 1066, Neg 5. The shade will spawn to the southwest by the lava.

Have your highest modded bard use AE MR, unless each group has a bard. Have any other bards use group magic resist. Have one cleric in each group to AE Heal ( 2500 heal ) to negate the dragons 2k AE. Have Shamans RGC the clerics ( possibly themselves after the clerics ) to negate the mana drain.

Make sure your tanks are max melee range, and close to your clerics for the group heal. HE IS A BELLY CASTER AND HE DOES AE RAMPAGE. His AE rampage is limited to only a few targets though. All I can suggest here is having your nukers stay away if they've been hit by the AE until its healed, that way they can hopefully take the rampage and survive. This dragon has few HP's, but his DPS is incredible.

EDIT: Additionally, his AE's are very far. None of our rangers were able to dodge it with max distance with thier bow.

<what> is a belly caster?
RE: Killed with 40.
# Aug 29 2004 at 1:40 PM Rating: Good
It simply means you have to be in melee range to cast spells. This applies to dragons, gods, and some difficult bosses (and drakes in Plane of Hate).
RE: Killed with 40.
# Oct 13 2004 at 4:05 PM Rating: Decent
Perfect example is Garudin in Veksar, makes the fight a nightmare for casters, because they have to get up close and personal with a mobs that can splat them in 2 swings
RE: Killed with 40.
# Mar 24 2005 at 12:43 PM Rating: Decent
Hehe the biggest difference in difficulty between this and Garudon is that this has an "AE" rampage.

Meaning everyone near him gets clawed in the face when they step up.

Bury those stamina buffs casters! hehe.
Req for more details on SDS
# Aug 17 2004 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
Can anyone confirm/deny something about Suled Dar's Shade:

1. Do you have to be under his "belly" to land spells like the old world dragons did? Does this include debuffs or just nukes?

2. Anyone know for sure if one or both of his AEs (Infinite Mass and Shock Breath) are line of sight (LOS) (i.e. can we put the healers behind some big rock and avoid one or both of them)?

3. Anyone know roughly how many HPs he has?

Thanks to anyone who answers this!
RE: Req for more details on SDS
# Apr 26 2005 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
Old questions but I fought this mob just after it was put in so:

1. You have to be in melee range to land all spells except those that are unresistable - tash, malo(s), manaburn (and I guess lifeburn and IHT).

2. It's an outdoor zone, you cannot hide from AEs even by being out of line of sight.

3. Not many hps. 200-300k perhaps. Agnarr's made a noticeable dent in his hp. I didn't parse the fight when we did it and in any case spent most of the time hurled half way across the zone or later dead :)

A few more notes
# Jul 31 2004 at 12:21 PM Rating: Decent
Just some more things to add to this discussion:
When he spawns, he stays up for a good while. We wiped first time we attempted him, and was able to drag, rez and rebuff and take him out on the second attempt.

He sees thru SOS! We were able to drag by sending in a buffed monk to FD as far away from our wipe spot (under his feet) as possible to pull corpses, and then have another person drag from there.

We killed him with a ranged type fight. Only a tank engaging him, clerics keeping him up and dru/sham to keep the rangers healed/cured. Took about 5 mins to kill with just 3-4 rangers. Bring more for an easier time.

His AE dispell has a monster range, 400. I was not able to shoot arrows outside of range (220 bow +170 arrow =390)
Bring 4 clickys and have em all hotkeyed, put bags in the bank if you have to. Just put em in hotkey slots 1,2,3 and 4, so you can just 1234 real fast after dispell.

I was parked out over the lava (clearest line of sight, hes located in a weird crevice at the edge of the lake that makes archery from a long distance hard) with SoE in the LAST buff slot, with my shaman just barely in cast range behind me healing and curing. Shaman wasnt ever hit with the dispell, but he did get hit with the curse. One RGC cast removed it.
