OK, best way to see if hes up, use some sort of spell that makes it so you take no dmg from falls/attacks cleric, necro etc have them... forgot the name of the spells divine something or whatever lol, but anyways just drop down the hole in the town you know were normally you would die from the drop but you wont take dmg if you use those invulnerability spells. When you drop down and get the bottom from falling... kinda hard to miss a big huge *** steel golem standing in front of the seal right in front of you... if you dont see one then hes not up and just gate back out :P
You can FD-Pet pull the guards using an SK or Necro and split him. The cleric guard (on the left) drops the pages for the Reactivate the Portals quest. The wizard guard (on the right) drops the piece for the Strength of the Elements quest.
Guardian of the Seal info: -Quads 900's, Upper 600's in Defensive -High ATK (Higher dps than Vindi!!!) -Low HP, like 100k -40% Slowable, Druid Debuffs land flawlessly -Once down to 30%, he changes skin and starts grav fluxing, but with high enough MR, you can resist it. If you're a cleric, you can actually hide from this AE by cornering the guardian to the right and CHing from around the corner.
It's definitely a fast, fun, and furious fight. Guardian's DPS is very, very high, but is offset by his low amount of HP. He always drops two loots (Earring and Shoulders are most common) and has a chance to drop the book for the Reactivate the Portals quest along with those two loots.
This is a very informative post, thank you! I wish I had read it before we engaged the Guardian *snickers* Ah well, there is always tomorrow night. Just a tip, that east corner is great, just make sure your healers have the range down before the fight. Our first attempt had them screaming "oor!" The fact that the Guardian and friends are indifferent makes this very easy to set up.
Haven't seen anyone mention where in The Hole he spawns yet. Was looking into the Reactivate the Portals quest and need to know where this guy is. A /loc or # on EQ Atlas map would be most helpful if anyone has it...
We took him down a few nights ago. It wasn't pie but we did fine with only about 16 people.
Trying to split wasn't working because the Gargs were being naughty.... anyways the Guardian himself was frankly not harder then either of the gargs other then how hard he hits.
So we split up the raid. 1 65 Warrior with High AC/Damage Mit took the Guardian, while simultaniously 1 65 High HP Warrior and 1 65 Paladin(me~) took the two Gargs. I started the battle off with a stun and took a few seconds worth of the Guardian and let me tell you he isn't too easy. The Guardian was dragged into the corner to the right and the gargs were taken as they stood. Slow was casted on the Guardian first, then the Warriors garg, and finally my garg since mine was being stunned hardcore.
2 Backup warriors took on the Guardian (for agro list), while all the damage force (2 Rangers 2 Rogues a Mage and a Monk) helped in reverse order of the slows, to free up my Garg first, then moved to the Warriors Garg and finally moved to the Guardian. Worked great, but the funny thing was when we had finally taken down both Gargs the Guardian was at 50% hp... from just 3 warriors and a mage tossing some hits in once in a while.
Needless to say he went down like a trash mob... I didn't even notice the "morph" thing he went down so freaking fast (maybe the MT did~).
About splitting the gargoyles, I inadvertantly discovered that they are corpse campers, so used that to split them. Took me a total of three deaths to split the two. Here's how I did it:
Positioned myself against the wall across from Nortlav and cast on the nearest gargoyle, the Guardian & the nearest gargoyle immediately sprinted to me while the far gargoyle started casting. A couple of attempts to FD failed while they were casting on me and I ended up dying. --however-- after I died, the closest gargoyle proceeded to walk over to my corpse and sit on it, while the Guardian and the other one returned to their spawn point. Split #1.
Second gargoyle was basically the same method, except you've got to live long enough for him to run to you. The first time only the Guardian ran to me while the garg sat there and chain casted his nukes. When I died this time, both just returned to their spawn point. On the second attempt I got the gargoyle to run about halfway to me before he started casting. When I died, he walked over and sat on my corpse while the Guardian returned to spawn point. Split #2.
One more thing. WE had 2 other tanks both pallys, 1 was for sure, pull the gargs as the Guardian was pulled.
64 WAR tanked the Guardian and we melee pinned him in the corner for the most part... he did wander a small bit, but he went down like a baby after we had a good strategery goin...
last nite our guild did the Guardian he dropped a Dagger 15/21 cant remember the name though...
Awesome dagger though. He also dropped the gloves and the earring...
BTW he is nerfed and much harder... a 2 group raid averagge 63 wiped on him... with that knockback you must corner pin him and tank must hold agro or peeps will fly!!! BTW he quads for 900 so be careful...
The Gloves are a rare drop and the gold ring very rare... Killed him for the last 2 months now with my guild, only dropped the gloves ONCE... Out of 12 times now... Mantle and earring are common drops...
we took him tonight - 24 people (which was overkill) and no deaths.
OTing is easy, and I as a 65 warrior didn't need a CH until very late on in the fight (when the guardian morphs).
That said, our MT (approx 8700hp, defensive abilities) did take a serious beating off this guy - we had a 3 cleric rotation at (I think) /pause 45 and I was still spot healing him with my boxed cleric.
The guards have a LOT of hp, so it's likely that the guardian will die before they do if most of your force is focussing on the guardian.
Once you get outside engage room, make sure echo of nortlay (sp) is pulled, as he'll assist if not (was told this, but as we pulled him I can't confirm).
After that, head into the room glued to the right wall - you can get your entire raid force in there and all targetting done without aggro.
Then it's just a matter of MT defensive up, and MT + 2 OTs charge the targets, with the raid force making sure they're in range to do what they need.
we DID manage to land a partial disease slow, and shamans crucible slow guide confirms that the guardian is slowable, but I don't think anything better landed.
The fight is mostly just straight forward until the guardian hits 30%, then a grav flux effect seems to kick in (with dd built in), and with GMR + bard resist magic song, I was hit 3 times during the last 30% of the mob. Be careful during this time, as your clerics may get gfluxed out of range, so as soon as the mob is getting close to 30, assign a couple spot healers back to MT to make sure that any breaks in the rotation are catered for.
Once Guardian is dead, finish off the 2 guards.
He dropped the mantle and the earring tonight, and one of the guards dropped the ore.
We had 3 groups of Lvl 65 and it was over kill bigtime, we offtanked both Gargs and MT cornered Guardian and not one person even came close to dieing .. was over in less than 45 seconds..as a Pally offtank with 8700+ Hps I didn't even need a CH with keeping garg chain stunned to avoid CH of the guardian which the gargs will do...... but over all was a VERY easy encounter.... dropped gloves, earing and the Strength of the elements component...
Anyone try to pacifiy/harmony the gargoyles yet? Rather then tackle this guy with 3 groups of lvl65's, some friends and i that farm what's left of late-night rares would like to take this guy on. (you can only clear umbral, and kunark dragons so many times). Pulling him single (or peel gargoyles first, then him)would turn the tables a bit, and would likely make him 1-group doable. <Discuss> <Criticize> <Prove me Wrong>
Myself as a 65 chanter and a 65 Necro friend made several attempts at splitting these guys. None of the 3 can be pacified and the Gargs were not snarable/mezzable. We stopped trying after 2 deaths each ;)
Any info on what his spawn time is. I'd like to kill the gargoyles without having to bother with him (I could use the ore they drop), which would be impossible if the two are on the same spawn timer
Anyone have info on the Ancient Tomb of Reserch? We killed him last night and he droped it and the ear and mantle. I got the tomb so any info would be a big help.
- Quads for 900 max but averages 500. - Cannot be slowed - At 30% he morphs into a stone golem form - When he does this he does Rampage only once but I didnt notice if it was AoE or not. Didnt seem to be a big problem at least not enough to kill anyone. - He gains a Gravity Flux attack which will toss you into the air. - He also has an AoE called "Earthen Shrapnel" which does more damage depending on how far away from him you are. 500dd close, 300dd medium range, and 150dd long range. Resist is magic but at -300. Lucy says it has a knockback effect as well which is probably how you get knocked around in the air after he GFlux's you. - I didnt notice any extra procs and have no idea if the GFlux was an independant AoE or part of his "Earthen Shrapnel" AoE.
The way we did it, had a Ranger use weaponshield to tank the Guardian while two back up tanks dragged the gargoyles away. 8.3k HP Warrior MT grabs the Guardian and we had four clerics on CH chain (5seconds) on him then. Had other healers doing double on healing backup and patching MT (gargoyles are not hard). As soon as he changed form the clerics broke chain and started patching and everyone helped patch the MT hard (MGB Heal helped as well). Then he died, easy peesy. Good rule on this guy is to NOT waste your ManaBurn and other high damage abilitys on him untill he changes form. After he changes he becomes a monster. Total people on this raid: 19
We have killed this guy 3 times so far Hehe we are monopolizing him on Luclin :) One correction I would make is According to our Shaman he is slowable. I may be mistaken but The Slow was called out all three times we killed him. Also I strongly recommend not bothering with CH rot. Just spam heal the MT as needed. We used a Warrior or a SK on The Guardian and used Paladins or SKs on the two gargs. We had everyone but the MT and SA on the gargs first until killed then had everyone switch to the Guardian. Shaman debuffed and slowed all the mobs first off.
If done Right he is an easy kill for raid of around 30 (or less) if raid group averages 60+. Did him with 24 last time and went down easy.

We took him down a few days ago..had to triple tank (1 on Guardian and 1 each on the cleric gargoyles). A few off the raid force to make quick with his clerics and the majority of the force on him. Did a knockback that was a pita..but when he morphed he did this strange Gflux that picked everyone up..swung them over and dropped us in the pool. Actually a sweet move..was cool. Course it screwed up the CH rot since all the clerics were in the pool. But was fun all in all..specially when you succeed then can laugh. Of course all the casters wanted that spell..LOL. Insta Pool Party.
Did anyone notice the Dormant Watcher in his room? We couldn't figure out how to activate him or engage him. Con blue to 63, huge gargoyle. Love the new graphics there tho.
