I've killed the Sporemaster 3 times and each time he's had the gold threaded cloth gloves and nothing else. If you are coming up the ramp to the shrieker camps, Sporemaster will be in the first camp at the rearmost position (if you were to look straight at the camp). He hits even weaker than other ancients. He does have a ph which is a normal ancient.
Better way to describe where it spawns:
After invis bridge, there are three paths heading west. The farthest north path where about 6-7 shriekers spawn (little ones are so cute!) and the sporemaster is the back of the bunch sitting smack in the middle of the tunnel. I was soloing, and he dropped the shield which rotted since the zone is always deserted.
