i ran into the swamp to get bone chips for a quest and spotted this guy. location: -1410, -8.88, 16.53 he couldn't be attacked so i tried hailing him.

You say, 'Hail, a skeleton'
a skeleton says 'Avast, matey! Captain Bones here. This here island is mine! Raise anchor and ship out!'

you can click and a merchant window opens but there are no items for sale.
Possible Erudite newbie armor quest?
# Aug 07 2002 at 3:39 PM Rating: Decent
Today took out a skellie in Toxx Forest, and it dropped a No Drop, Calcified Ribcage. Could there be a newbie armor quest on the brink of discovery?
RE: Possible Erudite newbie armor quest?
# Oct 02 2002 at 1:56 AM Rating: Decent
The calcified bone pieces are used in the Fell Blade armor quests for Erudite SKs. They are, in my opinion, the hardest parts to get, and here's why:

1) There are relatively few skeleton spawns in Toxxulia
2) Almost every other mob/NPC will attack skeletons on sight (or perhaps it's vice versa)
3) Even with Sense the Dead trying to track them down, the other undead in the zone (decaying skellies, abandoned heretic pets, named NPC pets and such) if they are closer will be what the spell leads you to.

I don't know if the skeletons in other zones with similar armor quests drop pieces that will work or not.

WTF! skeletons ARE NOT able to get to lvl 18!
i love em somtimes, and other times i hate em
# Mar 12 2002 at 5:51 PM Rating: Default
Skeletons are one of the most usefull dumb enemies, for an example, with my bard i go around aggroing skeletons in loio and then i go around using my songs to dmg them while running, they are so stupid that even when they are low on life they follow me,thats what i love about them, plus if i'm weak i can aggro someone else and put the trouble on their shoulders.
what i hate is that you are low on life trying to get life back, lifes a *****.
anything that aggros is annoying but i got to agree with tebyen, after all,i know.
I died because those stupid fking madmans killed me,i killed a madman and i was low on life, even a bard cant outrun a madman mage,he would beat me before i could save myself, another annoying skeleton just as bad as madman is dry bones.
Trully a horror,whatever you do,run.
I can kill em at lvl 20 but less they are extreemly hard, they cast spells.
If you go kill charbones in loio and your a bard make em run around, what i hate though is that i pull a skeleton and my kill dissappears because it aggroed someone else, thats the only bad thing, the rest of the creatures:sarnaks sabertooth grimalkins and etc etc run when they are low on life, they dont fight tot he death,so i could be running around the mill singing a song bursting my enemies eardrums and when he's low on life he leaves and then i'm like WHAAAAT? NOOOOOOOOO dont run, stupid kill, darn you, then he brings more stuff, another thing i believe is,anything wich is a magical related creature or that attacks in groups and runs away is considered annoying,a good example is blackburrows,i was so pissed off when i was about to win,the stupid gnoll jumped down into the water and i went after him only to be aggroed by 2 more gnolls and died,or i left him and he brought 3 more gnolls.
They are such cowards.

Ahh I see you like to train other people because you are a moron and don't know how to fight what you pull. Please go to the nearest Zek and try that, they might stop corpse camping your sorry bard *** after a few hours if you beg nicely.

I was hunting in Befallen and I when into a room filled with lvl 5 skellys. The all had a rusty dagger and a parrying dagger! Then I gave them to some casters for cool buffs. There good for casters. A lot of skellys in Befallen have Parrying daggers good loot to give to newbies.

Slightly more difficult than their decaying cousins these funny guys will attack anyone, anytime. Seem to have a penchant for attacking at the most inconvenient times as they tend to wander around some places just attacking at random. Bone chips are one of the most versitile loots in the game.
My main source of income
# Jun 10 2001 at 5:59 AM Rating: Decent
I honestly say that i've sold over 200bonechips. I once sold 40 for 20pp. Another time, i sold 40 and the Necro didn't have much pp, so he gave me a polar bear cloak with AC of like 10, +10 or so against cold, and it added HP as well... tried to auction it and was offered over 100pp for it, thats when i found out that i didn't wanna sell it as it is the best equip i have. later found out it was a quest item. If you kill bones, at least look at the corpse, so that i can loot it! I hope that this doesnt encourage you to hunt them... dont! THey're mine. See you in the ruins

I was going through Misty Thicket to get some exp. and I went walking by what I thought was a decaying skellies corpse. All of a sudden it popped up and got a lesser mummy to help it. I died right before the guards killed it.

I had an 8 druid and I was passing through Kithicor Forest to get to the druid guild in Rivervale. I thought I would get a little exp. on the way and saw a couple of skellies. I ran up, with camo. on, to check them out. Surprise! The jerks were some high level patroling thing with a pet. They saw through my camo. and killed me, 2 hits.

Dread Corpses
# Feb 16 2001 at 8:23 PM Rating: Default
What you are talking about are Dread Corpses. Target it before looting (as undead tend not to have names over their heads or corpses), and if it is a Dread Corpse, just turn around and walk away reeeaaalllll slow... er fast. They will aggro until killed or alone.
RE: Dread Corpses
# Dec 27 2001 at 1:45 PM Rating: Default
No, what he's talking about are skeletons. Normal skeletons, like "a decaying skeleton" and "a skeleton" sit down at their spawn point. The ones in newbie zones that wander around don't. Do you know what a skeleton looks like when it sits down? Have a local Necromancer or Shadow Knight type /pet sit down. They look like a pile of bones, just like their corpses do. They are hard to notice, especially if you're in a hurry. If you left click on them, you'll be albe to tell their name, how much of their life is left (alive/dead) and what they con to you (because almost all skeletons are KOS, as we have already said)

Skeletons have got to be the most annoying monsters in all of EQ. If you're above about level 9 or so, it takes just one good whack to kill one. But--there's no experience and usually no loot unless they happen to be carrying a crummy weapon of some kind. They always seem to attack while I'm in WC right in the middle of something.. be it killing a Dervish thug, selling off some loot, or (ESPECIALLY) trying to meditate. At least the aggressive orcs will leave you be when it's obvious that you're far superior to them. Not these damned things.
RE: I hate skeletons!
# Jul 14 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
I would have to disagree. Skeletons are the second most annoying things in Norrath. Desert madmen are the number one most annoying thing in Norrath. Always attacking you, sometimes casting on you, and never around unless your medding.
RE: I hate skeletons!
# Dec 07 2000 at 9:32 PM Rating: Default
Hmmm, I agree. Also, even worse, if you attack them, often they group up, and send in lesser mummies and zombies, which is a nightmare for anything upto lvl 8. Feckin st00pid things. And decaying skeles are just crap.. too big a jump in my opinion.

Annoying
# Jul 04 2000 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent
Skeletons anywhere are annoying to anyone above lvl 10. In Everfrost they are uncommon on the tundra. If you are on the tundra and you see a skeleton, make sure you con it before approaching, it could be the far more dnagerous Ice Bone Skeleton that requires a magic weapon in order to hit.
loot

I have looted a lot more than what they have listed here.. i have looted Backpacks,Large Bags, and Small Bags.
Several different types of weapons and sheilds.

Same here. I once looted a Parrying Dagger from one.
RE: loot
# Mar 28 2001 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
Every now and then skels will have some miscellaneous weapons or things like that. Generally worn/rusty stuff. Cracked staff goes for over 1pp at a vendor, not a bad haul for a newbie skel.

I did once get over 1pp in cash from a skel (about level 9 or 10) in Steamfront.
Skeletons In Nektulos
# Jun 16 2000 at 2:28 PM Rating: Decent
All of the Skeletons in Nektulos Forest are about a Level range of 5-7. They might be Level 18 in other places, but believe me, if Skeletons in Nektulos were Level 18, you'd see ALOT of newbie corpses!

Green Skellies ,and Hiding
# Jun 16 2000 at 3:20 AM Rating: Decent
The green skellies of all types in Befallen won't attack you unprovokd unless you sit, loot, or otherwise make yourself vulnerable. Other than that, it doesn't seem like skellies care what level you are, they just attack. Nektulos forest is especially bad with this, because they tend to wander/spawn on the path, and some high level with SOW (or even just running normally, if they start far enough behind) might not even know he's got a train behind him, much to the dismay of the newbies he runs into going the other way. Or at the zone line.

Also, a Rogue's "hide" skill will work against skellies, but they'll still /con ready to attack (they just.... won't).
#Anonymous, Posted: May 07 2000 at 10:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ive hunted sf like, forever and i have never seen a skelleton higher than like lvl 10. IVE NEVER SEEN ONE LVL 18!!!
P.S. (Was Ka-ching!)
# Apr 05 2000 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent

Ka-ching!
# Apr 05 2000 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
The skeleton doesn't only drop silver. A few times I looted between 1 and 4 gold from them. Gold dropping mobs at this level make a nice income if you hunt them for a while (like the orc tower in butcherblock, 3 gold to each person split in a 4 person group).
RE: Ka-ching!
# Dec 04 2001 at 10:45 AM Rating: Default
Yes, skellies are one of the more annoying creatures, BUT decayng ones can be killed at level 2 no matter what kind of weapon you have. a cracked staff CAN sell for 3pp, a enormous amount for level 2!
