rotting skeleton

The rotting skeleton carries one of three parts of the Medallion of the Obulus, a component in the old Veeshan's Peak key quest.

It spawns at 2250, -5140, 300 in the Dreadlands. Its placeholder is a solitary plaguebone skeleton.

PH is on a 5 minute, 20 second spawn timer on progression servers.

My timer was always 6 minutes as 50ish seconds... definately not 5 and 20. I am on Coirnav.

Also, his spawn seems to be about 2%... expect to be here a while.

If you zone into DL from FV side, turn right (North) and head towards the spiders *should be marked on the map* once you find the spiders, head a slight northeast angle and you should see either rotting skelly or his PH there.

Well, I'm the luckiest player in the game. Went to get it, he was up when I got there, had it on the first kill. You all have my sympathy if you have to wait longer.

Man I don't understand it. Some people can't get the mob in under a half of day and others are getting multiple in little time. I hope these people are just joking =P. I spent 10 hours just on the pained soul, and on my first 1/2 hour for the rotting skele.

Anyway, 41 PHs later I got him.

dunno if they changed the spawn rate of him or we got lucky but me and guildie camped him for under an hour and we got 3 spawns!

Ok , going to rant , but i will try to keep it short.

Does Sony have any consideration for people that have jobs and stuff? Ya know, people who wanna play EQ and still enjoy the game , while at the same time, providing a living for themselves?
You see, i find it incredibly ridiculous that Sony would create these quests that take 7+ hours to complete ONE - just ONE portion of NINE portions needed to complete the quest. ITS NOT EVEN FUN FOR GOD'S SAKE. Let me give an example of a fun quest -

Sol C - a very underused dungeon , at least on my server , offers a couple of different quests in the zone to complete. While camping whatever mobs you need, you have lots of time and space to clear out portions of the dungeon, earning a lil loot, sometimes coming across named and getting a nice drop , and actually earning a lil exp , and possibly having fun with an entire group.
A couple days of killing in there , you will not only have earned mebbe an AA or two , but some nice cash from loot, definitly a decent drop or two (necklace of mirage seeker and planar shield come to mind) but you will have also , in all likelihood, aquired the items you need to complete your quests.

As i type this , i am sitting in the a point on the map where ONE skeleton spawns every 12 minutes or so? ...waiting ENDLESSLY to obtain ONE - ONE lousy piece to a quest that is already made extremely difficult with a Trakanon kill. Overcomplication Kills it.
Do ya get the big picture yet Sony? I don't have 8 hours to kill everyday to camp the 5 mobs needed to complete this , ON TOP OF trying to catch Trak up and dragging a raid there. This results in players not being able to enter a zone. Thus creating blocked content . Thus creating a very unhappy player base.

There is nothing gratifying about sitting in one single spot for over 7 hours waiting for ONE skeleton to spawn. Its downright depressing **reaches for another bottle of pills** I can see making me go thru a couple PH's. Im not asking for the key to VP to be handed over to me. But for god's sake - FIND A HAPPY MEDIUM - Just meet me halfway !!!!!! I WANT to play your game...i WANT to see VP - i pay every month so i can enjoy ...what? Sitting in DL for 8 hours?

My friends laugh at me and send tells saying **oh my god you are STILL there?** While they are dinging 67-68 and 69 - asking me to come to Walls to camp, i say , no , im on a mission to prove how HORRIBLE this quest is - so i can post on Alla's and hope to god someone takes notice. Its downright ridiculous. Like stated in another post pertaining to this quest - i would rather sit in ME and collect Vex Thall shards. the name of all thats holy....somebody get the word thru to Sony that i am paying my subscription every month regardless . The LEAST they can do is throw a dog a bone , and make a quest mob pop more often than once in a day . For Goodness sake, i STILL dont have my drop - and i have 4 more mobs to kill. PLEASE fix this. I promise Im not going anywhere...i swear you will still get my money every single month. Just ,..fix this!!!

**edit - 9 + hours it took for my spawn. He finaly popped for me, and on i went to TT to catch the pained soul. There was a cleric from another guild, 2nd day in a row this poor guy had spent 6 hours camping this mob , and still hadn't got him. A member of my guild suggested i park a low lvl mob near the spawn points of AJ/PS/VKR/BM/RS ...unfortunatly i cannot toggle 5 low lvl alts to try and catch these mobs up by luck. It just doesnt seem practical. Besides , camping a low lvl is very dangerous for a few of these mobs.Im sure i would wind up with a death or two on my hands, complicating the quest further.
Does this seem beyond absurd yet ?

I only camped for 4 hours today. After 1 hour
started farming spider silks between spawns.
I cleared the nearest spiders, camp back for
rotting ph. Then did far 2 spider camps, then
back to rotting.

Unfortunately for us, Sony has no reason not to make camps long. This is a pay for time based game. Therefore the longer it takes to achieve your goals, the better for them. They do not want it ti be quick and easy.

I feel your pain as far as long spawns go, Monk Epic 1.0. It does suck to sit there for just one piece, but trust me when you finally get it done it will be gratifying. I just did the entire Jarsath medallion today in about 30 mins about 28 minutes of travel time probably. I'm now at this moment in DL for the same one you were doing. Trakanon, I wouldn't worry about if I were you. He's 1 groupable anymore, we did it with a necro, monk, druid, wiz, bst and sk. Used necro pet pull to single pull him to the banish room. It's not blocked content, it's limited content as I know a LOT of people who have gone through this.

I you have a decent, long duration DS(read: are a ranger), or have a pet to kill it for ya, the aggro range is large enough that if you stand back at the base of the steep part of zone wall, he'll run over and start smacking you. I set a 7 minute timer, soon as I kill him I go AFK. Timer goes off, I come back to comp and he's been beating on my DS for 10-15 seconds. Works like a charm... never any adds.

Well I was extremely lucky as I got in 7 mins, killed a greater plaugebone and it poped. After killing the rotting skele I waited and it poped again so guess it completely random.

Thought I'd post my experience with this mob. He does spawn at at the exact coordinates listed below (2250, -5150, 300) and has a sole placeholder, a plaguebone skeleton.

The area where this spawns is high up on the hill in a tree'd area just next to the north wall.

I camped this mob over a course of 3 days. The first day I spent 2.5 hours and killed the PH every 7-8 minutes. 20 kills and no pop. I logged out at the spawn point.

Next day I log in and camp it for an hour. Eight PH's spawn and again no Rotting skelly.

Finally on the 3rd day, after just 1 PH was killed, the rotting skeleton popped and I killed him quick. Finally! Seems like you will have a 1 in 20 chance on average that this mob will show up on any given spawn based on other reports I've read. Long boring camp but at least you'll eventually get your medallion piece.

Only once during the 3+ hours there did I ever see any other mob wander by. There was a white tundra yeti (gorilla) wandered by and stopped just next to the spawn point. The PH popped just as he walked by and both aggroed me. I think SOE put in a wanderer right next to this spawn spot to help prevent players with pets from auto-camping this skelly.

If you are a pet class, and aren't up for the standard 2-8 hour camping of this mob there's a much easier method.

Summon your pet, and stand on top of his spawn point. The PH's will agro you, pet will kill them, repeat as you sleep.

The beauty of this is -- the rotting skeleton is non-agro. He's indifferent to all. So when he pops while your asleep, he won't agro, get killed and be wasted.

When you wake up / get back from work / the store / whatever, you should have one VP key piece mob waiting at your disposal.

Cheers! Did this trick lastnight and it worked like a charm (well a charm that didn't break and slaughter the group.) Thanks for the tip!

I consider myself lucky because he only took about 3hours and a few minutes to spawn for me. Little tip since the place holder pops about every 8 minutes, turn on your game sound and minimize your screen so you can surf the web. He will agro when he pops and you will hear him attack you which will let you know to get back in game and kill him. You most likely wont die because if your camping for the key you should be high enough to take a couple of his melee's. Good luck to you all hoping he spawns.

WoW I dont know about everyone else but maybe they changed how this guy spawns, seems to be super rare mob. at least it is for me, have camped it for 10 plus hours straight now and no luck on the rotting skelly.

Took him down twice last night, within 30 minutes. Was simply clearing the skelly camp by using sense undead, and pulled him into target.

Various skeleton mobs are the PH. Mob does not roam.
