You say, 'Hail, Praesertum Vantorus'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'You are a brave one, are you not? Few dare to disturb a Praesertum in his chambers, and fewer still dare to disturb me. Ha! I like that. What is it you seek? I promise nothing, but you earned some small portion of my time to listen to you. I also warn you, any treachery will meet a swift and final end. Of this have no doubt.'

You say, 'Praesertum Bikun'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'Praesertum Bikun is in charge of Commerce and Industry, or the Shoulders of Seru as it is commonly known. An able man, he does more than a fair job in keeping the city supplied. He as always provided what I asked for in regards to the Hand, and he is quite the entertaining character. If he has any flaws, it is that he tends to do things to excess. He seems to feel that if it is not large, it is not worth his time. This applies to his drinking, his eating, and even his wenching. He is honest about his appetites, and I think that in a strange way, it is good for morale. Work hard, play hard, work well, live well, is his motto.'

You say, 'Praesertum Rhugol'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'Ah, yes, Rhugol. A necessary evil, so to speak. He and his provide a valuable service to the city. Though I must confess, I despise his methods, and resent his constant interference in my domain. He knows this, and sometimes I feel he takes great delight in inflicting himself upon me and mine. This is a petty thing, but I make it a point of thwarting him where I can, in matters I feel he has no business in. Nothing that risks the security of the city, mind you, for that I would never do. I simply feel that he needs to be kept in check, much like a dog needs a leash, or a good smack on the snout. But I warn you, it is the rare person indeed that is able to cross Rhugol more than once. Do not underestimate him, for he is truly a dangerous man.'

You say, 'Praesertum Matpa'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'If Rhugol is a spider, Matpa is an ant. Nothing gets done in the city without his involvement. His offices are in charge of almost all aspects of city administration. Anger him or one of his legion of bureaucrats, and you can find yourself without pay, without housing, or assigned to the worst duties a citizen can imagine. Matpa is a petty, vindictive man, but despite that, the Heart functions well under his leadership. I would lief not have to deal with his offices on every little matter, but such is the will of Seru.'

Dec 16 10:02:11 2023 You say, 'Seru'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'Seru is a brilliant leader. I truly feel that he could run the city without the Praesertum, such are his talents. He is a greater warrior than I will ever hope to be, and I consider myself very talented indeed. I am sure the other Praesertum will agree that he is equally competent in their fields. Seru is the reason the Combine was as powerful as it was, and were it not for treachery most foul, from a source Seru could never suspect, I believe that the Combine would still exist on Norrath today. That treachery, and the destruction of a great and noble dream made reality, is the reason we are here now. The Combine will again return to glory, once our task here is done. Seru will lead us to victory and greatness, make no mistake about it!'

You say, 'Katta Castellum'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'The city or the Betrayer? No matter, both are foul and corrupt. Katta was the leader of the Combine, at first revered as a wise and just Imperator. He was revered because Seru, loyal to the extreme, made it so. Katta had nothing more than a fair countenance, a melodious voice, and charm. That would not have been enough to forge an empire, but with the aid of Seru, it was more than enough. But the power was too much for Katta to handle. It corrupted him. He began entering into pacts with the very forces the Combine was created to defeat, making whimsical decisions, and exhibiting signs of madness. Seru had been cautioning Katta that he was going astray, but Katta refused to listen. Seru did what he could to keep the Empire strong, as a counter to Katta's worsening influence. Finally, events came to a head when Seru discovered Katta's dark secret.'

You say, 'What dark secret?'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'The secret was that Katta was under the influence of dark powers, nothing more than a puppet to their whims. When Seru had the proof of this, he confronted Katta, refusing to believe it at first. Katta laughed at him, calling him a fool, secure in the false belief that he had total control of the Combine. This was not the case. Seru began to make plans, and amassed forces loyal to the true ideals of the Combine, those that were ashamed by the Imperator's corruption, and horrified by the true nature of it. When Katta got wind of this gathering of opposition, he finally grew afraid. This fear led him to concoct a feeble plot to discredit Seru. He held a state dinner, with all the notables of the world in attendance, and then tried to fake his own murder. His plan was to implicate Seru in this 'murder'.'

You say, 'murder'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'As I said, Katta faked his own death at a state dinner. But Seru, and many of those who now knew the dark truth about Katta, were not fooled. Yet even though Katta's foolish plan was foiled, he kept up the pretense, and went in hiding. He left behind a large force of loyal followers to prevent Seru from apprehending him. There was much bloodshed, with the misguided and the corrupted sacrificing themselves foolishly. This led to the breakdown of the Combine as we knew it. After many months of attack and counterattack, retreat and advance, Seru's forces had the upper hand. The Loyalists were confined to one outpost in Kunark. Seru was content to leave them there for a time as he struggled to hold the Empire together. Little did he know they were planning bold yet insane escape.'

You say, 'escape'

Praesertum Vantorus says, 'The Loyalists had many bright minds in their ranks, make no mistake about this. The most powerful Geomancers, Wizards, Mages and Enchanters worked feverishly to enact the escape of the Loyalists. The Geomancers and Wizards worked on the details of the massive teleportation that was to take effect, while the Enchanters wove powerful glamours to shield this effort from prying eyes. The Magicians summoned elementals in forms never before seen, forms that closely mimicked the shape of men. Combined with the work of the Enchanters, it appeared as if the outpost was fully manned. This illusion was so powerful, it was not until Seru's forces finally attacked the outpost that it was discovered they were gone. It Seru some time to determine where they had fled.'

This is why Sony needs to get off its toilet and make these NPCs more available. It took 3 weeks to finally find him up, and even then only 5 minutes in someone comes in and starts killing him. But this text is what I managed to scrape off him before the other person took him down. It also sucks that I'd get banished to a cell while this magician stood there and never got banished once because their pet did all the work. GG!

(He died before I could get any further text. Other player never responded. Yes, quite a few typos in the text, but it's all copy/pasted and that's how it appears in-game.)

As with other NPCs, mentioning "fat man" always illicit the response: 'Have you been to the Plane of Growth lately?'

Apparently no one tried pulling him to the prison to fight them there. I did and it worked twice. Bilkun and Matpa fell to my tactics without fail...I tened to use the mass aggro summon/banish, running back and forth to the bosses with invis on after getting banished to avoid picking up more aggro, and eventually inch my way to the prison. Then came Vantrous...I guess he doesn't like to go out too far from the gates of the pyramids, because as soon as my little strategy played out and he was almost to the center of the inner sanctum, and he just turned around and ran, yes ran back to his location, repeatedly. Well, I hope this helps someone else, cause doing this one alone, and I haven't tried Rugal, is the pits...I guess someone'll be killing him properly...oh well 3 days isn't so long a time.

Two-boxed with a 72 warrior and 72 shaman yesterday on Drinal, plus a mercenary cleric and warrior. We were both wearing The mercenary warrior tanked. After the warrior mercenary got aggro, we didn't get banished.

As both the warrior and shaman are hellaciously KOS here in Sanctus Seru (lucid shard farming from when Vex Thal was the place to raid), I had the shaman cast malo on this mob. That way, he got aggro enough for the mercenary to attack. The shaman got banished and the mercenary went in. From the dungeon, I cast invisibility on myself and ran back up. By this point, the warrior PC and cleric mercenary had joined in the fight. The PC warrior was using non-proc weapons.

My wife and I killed this guy today, hoping to kill all 4 but of course other 3 aren't up. Was me, 75 mage, boxing 75 necro, and wife 75 cleric... Very easy fight. Cleric just used Promised Renewal on Mage pet, pet tanked. I just used the big DS on pet as to not pull agro. No one got banished, fight lasted maybe 5 min. He's got a ton of hp's thats for sure, lol.

2 down 2 to go ,this is #3. Went after him with me (lvl 65 Bl 292aa and counting) and 65 necro freind 2 boxing his 65 cleric. after 5 hours of toying with him i figured that it figures he this hard being in the hardest of buildings, but soon learned that after pettanking and oom , pets die and you go to jail ,, ALL IS NOT LOST!!!
Can zone out and run back in invis to his room , to find this guy ( if cleric only heals pet, wont get ANY aggro)doesnt kick in High regen mode.. He regens super slow just as if he still in battle.(as long as cleric not in jail) Got him to under 10 percent a few times that day.
Well came back after a rest (24 hours later) with a plan and i enlisted my lvl 56 drood, and WOOT. A group of 2 2boxers downed him in 35 mins
65Bl , 65Nec , 57Cler , 56Dru . Not so much cake , probably cuz of the after taste from day before. Now for last drop ,,Bikun, who by the way is the hardest, as i soon learned....follow me there and find out more :)

As much as I'd love to have a mage CoH peeps to the location, more than likely the mages that would help with these fights will want to send pets in and I know the faction hits are pretty hard. Wouldn't that same CoH mage be KoS before your 3rd for 4th fight then? Is it possible to invis all the way up to these guys or is that too much of a royal pain?

Thanks for any reply.

Yes, the mage would be KOS, so have someone who is not KOS duel the mage, kill him, and drag his corpse up to the spot.
RE: CoH
# Sep 07 2004 at 11:59 PM Rating: Decent
There is usually one of the guards outside the door that can see invis. So the above plan would have to be the way it was done. There is a room in between the guards and the boss that might possibly be used as a staging area (haven't tried it).
what a chore
# Apr 15 2004 at 12:33 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, so actually killing these head mobs is not the tuff part, it is getting your group/raid up to them. If you are like me, you have dragged freinds here to help farm for reports that go hand in hand with this quest. If so , you are likely KoS already to some/all of the guildhouse factions in here. So, when one of these guys come up (which i have ONLY caught them after servers have come up) it can be a trick to get everyone up to the top floor without having to kill everything in your path. What we did to allieviate this, was CoH everyone up to the room right before this guy , with the table in it. Luckily i had a Mage that was not KoS able to get up to this area to do this. He first CoH'd myself , and i rooted adds that started to come. One by one , we zapped everyone up there. Once ya take out the adds, sick the pets on, shoot arrows and nuke, he went down fairly easily.

By the way , the server had been patched in the morning, and by 2 in the afternoon, i had checked, and only one of the guild headmasters were up. I assumed the other three had already been taken out. While gathering people to kill the one that was up, a tracker saw Bikun spawn. This is hours after the server had been brought back up. I did not need Bikun, so i left him, and we killed Rhugol. After we all seperated, and i got my shard, to my surprise, suddenly Vantorus was up! So, i have no real insight to give as to when they spawn. Only that i have only caught them after the server has gone down.

Did this mob with four people: A bard, beastlord, cleric, and a wizard, all 65, elementals, et al.

Did this initially by clearing way up into the first room on Vantorus's floor, then clearing his two door guards, with standard bard pull and mezz. Afterwards, preped ourselves up, and pulled Vantorus to the first room. I first had bard pull with hos, then casted Requim for slow, and ran to the first room where wizard, cleric, and beastlord were.

Now the trick here is to try to send the beastlord pet to catch him in just as Vantorus is about to run through the door way. Afterwards, position Vantorus at any one of the corners, cast wizard and cleric pets, and just hammer away until he dies.

A bit of advice...Be careful about the pet's owner who is the initial tank needs to be out of melee range =/ I sent in pet, he rushed at me...And I am currently watching my pets hp fluctuate from a jail cell.

Killed this guy yesterday with a cleric, Mage, Bst, Chanter and my druid all 65.
He has ALOT of hp, regens for more then 200 per tick and hits for 510 max. He proc's a banishment that sends you to jail alot, theres no point in having a tank. The best way to do this is have 3 61+ pet class' and 3 healers have the pets tank (He can't banish pets). He is slowable, rootable and snareable. Don't count on root sticking to him long. There is a MAJOR faction hit for killing this guy, I went from indifferent to scowls in SS from killing him. There doesent seem to be a faction hit if you only heal the pets, our cleric did that and didn't take the hit.

The easiest way of dealing with these guys (because of their banish proc) is to use pets and range attacks. Send a pet in as your MT, keep all healers on that pet (or have healers /assist Praesertium to see which pet he's on to heal that pet), have everyone else use their pets on him to push him into the corner. Melees use range attacks only, nukers and DoTers are your friends here. So long as the pet has sufficient agro, noone should be banished and the mob should go down with no casualties to your groups.
