a giant rat

Animal

In Newbie Areas: Giant Rats seem to leave large parts of themselves when killed. They are excellent hunting for the level 4 to 6 player, providing good loot and exp. Rats are non-aggressive, and will not attack on sight.

In North Kaladim, this mob appears to have undergone a name change to "Giant Rat".

Plague Rat Tails!!!!

Sometimes you will find "Plague Rat Tails" on these or the large rats in the Innothule Swamp. These tails are worth at least one pp and range from gold to copper. Just a helping hint to the newbies in this area for quick cash.

Probably the same thing but I also recieved a preserved rat pelt from one of these. It is white NO DROP, maybe magic, don't remember. I believe it to be a new drop as I have raised a number of characters in QH and did not see this until my new druid killed a giant rat yesterday. I have about 6 of these in inventory now. I am assuming they are for either a new or unimplimented quest, but I don't know what it would be. Will post if I find a use.

Infected rats
# Jul 06 2001 at 1:22 PM Rating: Default
I was sitting in the mines wating for the rat to spawn so I could get the pelts, and instead of a giant rat, an infected rat appears. It ran off and I gace chase, but it was killed by a guard.
Mine Rat
# Jul 25 2000 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
One of these little critters also happens to spawn in the mines in north Kaladim. There is only one, and it has a fairly long spawn rate for such a low level creature (about 15-30 mins), so it tends to not be around for long as any passing lvl 2-6 character wouldn't pass up such an easy, near risk-free encounter. There also is a warrior quest (and maybe a rogue quest too) involving giant rat pelts. As this is the ONLY giant rat on the entire continent of Faydwer (and the nearest ones after that are in Befallen) and the pelt quest is given to lots of young newbie dwarfs (who go into the mines searching for the so-called rat "infestation"), don't expect to see it very often, if at all.
yummy ears
# Jun 27 2000 at 10:57 AM Rating: Decent
a surprise bonus for hunting these big boys is that if you give the ears (3) to Rephas by the lake he will give you a recipe..which in turn can help you obtain another quest item to complete a higher level quest at a later date plus a bit of faction adjustment...obscure adjustments that i found interesting that alone was worth it to me
