Level 75 and a nerfed Bert on easy mode.

Try it on Al'Kabor, where the max level is 65 and Bert isn't slowable.

Nerfed? I raided Bert back when PoP was current, it was the same fight. And It wasn't slowed. No one can do that fight at 65, what a stupid thing to say, the point was that I did whole event at 75, and that is impressive for what it is. Don't think so? Try it.

I wouldn't play on Al'Kabor if you paid me, I thought I waste a lot of time on this game.. to do it still on the same content for the last 10 years is insanity. Don't even try to think we play the same game anymore.

So out of sheer boredom, I decided to see if I could spawn Bert by myself. My first 2 attempts failed as I was too slow to kill all of the kings in time. Those attempts were while using a Warrior merc.

I went back today to attempt again and was successful in spawning him...

Followed shortly after by successfully killing him. Did the fight completely solo without the help of a merc or outside buffs.

And, no, I am not an uber geared cleric.

So yes it can in fact be done solo by a cleric. Now lets see you DPS classes get it done :-P

Cleric (13k Mana)
Warrior ( 20k / 3,9k AC ) ( boxed )
Beastlord ( Demigear)

After the first four nameds , simply pacify the trash and single / double pull the Nameds. That will save you a lot of time.
Make sure you got somebody to cure Bertoxx AE , otherwise you will run out of mana . We had to use Veteran AA to restore Mana.
no Dispells or anything as far as I remember.

Yeah we killed him with 5 last night.

Mains were 75 Dru/Pal/Zerker

Boxed Cleric and Bard.

He is kinda spikey at times tho chain CHing on the one Clr was just about enough, I self patched a couple times.

Obviously easier with a discing Warrior than a pre-occupied Paladin.

Dropped "The Rotting Fist" and "Decayed Shoes of the Plaguebringer".

Bert is easy if you have a good raid. We had 50 or so people with a level average of 64. Imo, the hardest part was getting to him.

No one in raid died during the Fight. But some died after due to the AE DoT he casts. It takes 20% off of a toon with 6k hp per tick.

As of right now, you can't wall or corner Bertox and a slew of other mobs. We had Bertox warp out of the wall and came from nowhere and started picking off healers and casters and before we knew it he had wiped us.

Nasty wall/corner bug thanks to the dx9.. woot, go SoE.

Spoiler incoming:

First off Spectre of Corruption respawns 6 hours after her death in case the previous Bert run fails. Here is a break down of how I run the Bert script, your results and methods may vary:

Raid set up will depend on your guild, but as this event is suppost to be pre-Saryrn I will do the make up as my guild is now (Emp killed, no VT clears yet):

Main Assist(MA)Group: three warriors, bard, 2 clerics
Second Main Assist Group: Two more warriors, Main Knight (we use SK), Bard, 2 clerics
Split Group: 3 monks, druid, cleric, shaman
DPS Group: Bard + rogues or wizzies or both
The rest of the groups should be balanced with all remaining healers balanced througout. This event is heavily dependant on Necros and Enchanters, have at least 4 total combined.

Logic on group make ups are simple, you need your main tanks with a bard (explained later) as well your second main assist group is flexible and dependant on numbers, but the warriors/knights put into this group should be capable of split tanking.

The Event:
First off, spend the time explaining to the raid that there will be no AFK time, there is no room for poor quality two boxing and that everyone needs to be alert for the next 2 hours and 10 minutes. Get everyone shrunk as small as they can. Explain to people that they need to have a way to shrink themselves if they are a large race without shm/bst in their group. Set your MT rotation for the Kings right away, I recommend 4 deep, but if you cannot go 4 deep, you need at least 2. Set your MA now, should be a warrior who is fast targetting and can maintain aggro. As well set your main splitter (Knight). Have the clerics know their rot beforehand. 5 deep is okay and should be enough till Bert. Buffing: Max HPs, mana regen haste and atk buffs. For MA groups all warriors and knights need GoD and Ferocity. Magic resists are very important, as the Carpin Script should have taught you.

Kill Spectre of Corruption, straight forward Melee. Once the SoC dies, have everyone move to the North room. There are four rooms, North, east south and west, have a map handy as you will need to lead them to each room without going thru the center. You have 5 minutes from when you kill the SoC before the script timer starts. Once the script starts you have a maximum of 2 hours to kill Bertoxx so make sure you note when the emote is broadcast to the zone.

Once everyone is in the north room, move them in right away and have the caster get to the walls. When the script starts, the mobs start walking into the room through the 2 entrances, this is when the tanking/mezzing begin. KEY: everyone has to assist the MA at all times Once all mobs are dead, OTM them to the east room (clockwise). What follows is the same proceedure for every room that follows:

Once everyone is stopped outside the next room, have the MA/MT step up to the front while the first monk in the split group runs in, tags a mob and runs away from the raid and FD's. What this does is allow for better targetting for your mezzers. The monks will die, and die alot, thus the rezzing/buffing crew in their group. Once the mobs have been broken up a bit, the MA should announce to his healing crew he is going in, we will rush in as will the main splitter and fun begins. MA gets his target, splitter has his and the necros and chanters should be mezzing anything that moves. Bards outside of the MA group can help with mezzing if your mezzing crew is having a hard time. Bards in MA groups should have Psalm of Veeshan up at all times during the raid. Systematically clear all mobs in the room, until none remain. OTM the raid to the next room in a clockwise motion. Always have them stop short and repeat the above proceedure.

For "Kings" (Adan's) the proceedure is only slightly different. First off the split tank will not be splitting unless it is to save a cleric. Second the MT for each king needs to be called. If you preset your rotation as mentioned, just rotate thru them from room to room (king 1: mt1, king 2: mt2...) to keep evasive/defensive ready to go. For all kings, have your tanks hold their engage call a few seconds longer then usual, once engage is called, get the king pinned. Now most of the kings are straight forward but here are a few need to knows (go thru beastiary to review them): I believe the 7th king procs a 5 sec stun, odds are if engage is called too quickly you will lose lots of folks as aggro bounces. 8th king dies and spawns the 9th king right immediately, the same tank should be able to tank both, but warn the casters to stay on the walls and have the MT for 8th aware that 9th is inc. 10th, 11th and 12th kings all proc Life Taps and nasty ones, your MTs MUST have GoD and Ferocity and your MT Bard must be playing PoV and never let it drop. 3500 and 5000 hp Lifetaps will own you if your not ready for it.

Speed is an issue, you need to be done the 12 kings in about 90 minutes to be on a good pace. Once the 12th king dies, do not OTM them yet. Make sure everyone is buffed with max Hps and regens. Ignore trying to buff resists as odds are you will not resist them (resist check on Bert's ae is -500). Once everyone is buffed OTM to te next room, which will be the fight room. All the mobs in this room need to be mezzed or petted (necros can get up to level 60 and chanters 64). If your dps is so so i highly recommend petting. Use shamans to get malosinia or at least malos on them and bards to help the chanters and necros with mezzing till they are all debuffed and ready to be petted. Once the mobs are under control, move the raid into the two little ramps that look at the center port in area. get your MT into one corner or the other that is closest to that center area. Have your rot check range and designate a rampage tank and 2 good healers plus secondaries on the RT. The RT will need to be smart, ie, intelligent. As the pulling of bert is easy with the new disciplines. The RT goes into the center room and left (there will be mobs to the right, but they willnot aggro unless your tank runs around with his head cut off). Have the RT target Bert (who should be on the other side of the port out block), have him give the cleric rot a 3 second warning that he is pulling then: Defensive, tag bert, invulnerable disc, and run up to the MT and stand there.

At this point corner him and push him in. DPS is the key, but this should be enough to get you close to winning, execution is the hard part

note on king pulling, done this before with fairly decent success using bard pull fading memories and tags. also on that raid we used one knight as trash tank and one as "prepper" prepping mob basically means while mt and raid kills one you target one and TM it then the MT assist you for target and you jump to another, makes for seemless killing as much as is possible.

First off let me tell you that this encounter is ****, definitely the hardest encounter excluding Rallos Pre-elemental, Bert doesn't have AE rampage as some people say, instead his melee range reaches ALL the way across his room, so it may seem that the rampage is AE, but it isn't that I noticed. The AE is a pain cause it can drain cleric mana fast, try to avoid it, easy to do because there are walls, the kings in the event can be quite hard too, they have that horrible 3500 proc that the mobs in carprin cycle have. Bert hits around 2k, and the event only lasts 2 hours from when the spectre dies. Expect adds during the fight, not part of script, but they wander through there.
EDIT:The AE doesn't reach max melee range, or anything past that, plan accordingly.

For reference:

Bertoxxulous is a triggered event. The NPC that triggers him is the Spectre Of Corruption. This NPC respawns 3 days after the death of Bertoxxulous, or if the event is failed, 4-6 hours after the failure.

Once the Spectre is dead, you have 2 hours to complete the event or you fail. I believe that if you have bertoxx engaged when the timer hits, he will not depop, but I'm not 100% sure on this.

The event itself consists of an absolute truckload of Corrupted Knights / Necromancers Of Decay/ Priests of Decay / etc, and a series of 12 progressively harder named mobs (the various xxx Adan mobs in the Beastiary). Some of names have some downright NASTY procs and AE's (5k lifetap is a nasty one).

**** of a fun event thou.

RE: Spawn Times / Event Timer
# Sep 30 2003 at 5:56 AM Rating: Good
Bert does indeed despawn after the 2-hour time limit has passed whether he is engaged or not. We got to him two days ago and pulled him to the kill spot, the MT engaged, started positioning him for the kill, and he promptly poofed on us with some smart-azz remark about us not being powerful enough.

Word of advice to anyone trying Bert is to not waste any time during the event. Don't wait to pull the Adan's if you have one or two people dead. Make sure everyone knows what the plan of attack is before you start the event. Waste no time with lengthy explanations while the event is underway. Once you kill the trigger you must ensure that everyone is all business and you minimize downtime in anyway possible.

Though we were all proud of the fact that we were able to make it through the ring to Bert, it still stings having watched him just poof on us after all that work.

It took Four tries for Obsidian Coven on Cazic Thule. First Try, had Bert spawn on top of us. Lesson Learned. Refine Tactics...Second Try, Problem Pulling last King to our designated Kill Spot. Time Elapsed. Refine Tactics...Third Try, Early Wipe due to pulling Error (Dumb Mistake or Dumb Luck your choice)..Time Elapsed. Fourth Try, Tactics resolved, 35 Minutes on Timer when BERT Spawned with a raid force of 68. Pulled BERT to Bert Kill Camp, MA did not have sufficient Agro, and Bert agrod Clerics (Heal Agro) by one they fell creating a chain reaction...Disappointed but with 9 Minutes still left on timer we decided to try...Rez'd Raid, Buffed up very efficiently, allot less apprehensive pilots of their toons, flawless re-pull of Bert...MA and Rampage Tank got the job done sufficiently, Bert Fell with maybe one or two deaths do to Enrage.

Moral of this story is, Bertoxx puts his pants on the same way you and I leg at a time. A tight CH Chain and Spell shield on MA, heís not Difficult. Do what you have done for the last 60 some odd levels over the last 2 or 3 years and donít be overly cautious.

The Majority of Guilds that I know of have little or no success the first try or two. Often it takes guilds several real tries to refine tactics and get the kill. Donít be disappointed, all good things come with a bit of hard work and a few failures. But the best feeling I have had in EQ is after a few weeks of failures on a specific event or MoB, sitting back trying to refine a better strat, and finally the effort pays off. Well worth the price of admission.

Some good info. If you Work the majority of the Kings at the Zone In room, make sure to have a pre assigned Bert Camp in one of the far Dead Ends from the Zone. As Bert Spawns at ZI on the last king kill, you donít want to be anywhere around it. Make sure your people each know and have rehearsed where to go just before the last King, with so many Random Mobs you will lose half the raid party before you even engage last king if they get lost (Note- Prior to Starting the Event CODB Has only the Ring Trigger Mob in it, take this opportunity to run around and learn where your Camps will be). Pull last King to BERT Kill Camp, Spawn Bert, Pull and Win!

Bert is definitely one of the Harder Pre Elemental Flagging Bossís weíve killedÖ.but I think he was more in our heads like a good hockey team does to an opposing Goalie, once we got some shots under our belts and got a bit ticked off we kicked his ***Ö.

"Bertoxxulous has no allies. His followers often follow the dark art of necromancy, which he wholeheartedly supports. The Plaguebringer appears as a humanoid hunchback draped in tattered, decaying robes. Under his hood can be seen a very handsome face attached to the body of a rotting corpse. He is enemies with Tunare, Rodcet Nife, Karana, Mithaniel Marr, and Rallos Zek. He rules the Plane of Disease, which is dark and drippy with geysers of ooze and rivers of pus. The land itself looks, feels and even smells like decaying flesh, and is inhabited by all manner of evil creatures and undead. "

bertox hit me, as a 65 cleric, for up to 1957 and can quad. basically, once the MA loses agro and hits somebody else, that person is dead. dont use agro weapons.

That isnt true. Im sure your AC isnt the same as some of the melees that are there fighting. You forget to take into consideration that in PoP the higher the AC the more damage mitigation you can have. There is no cap in PoP.

actually it dont mean squat what your AC is as far as what your Max hit can be.

As a 65 Beast with a Measily lil over 1200AC I got hit for the same 19XX HPs not sure the exact number but was under 2000, and the exact number is moot anyway, most anyone with under 7000Hps is DEAD in under 2secs if you get aggro.

Im sure this 65 Cleric had higher AC still got hit for 1957Hps.
as im sure a Warrior with over 1700AC would also get hit for "up to" max hit.
What your higher AC does is give you a "chance" to mitigate more damage, doesnt mean you "will" mitigate more of every single hit..

The ONLY thing that does that is /Disc which is the one and only reason a Warrior has a better chance to survive being beat on by Bertoxx.

A warrior whos /Disc is down wont last much more than 2-5 secs against Bertoxx.

Higher AC no matter if its 2000AC isnt going to save your **** agaisnt a Mob that hits this hard and fast (cant be slowed).
You actually have a better chance to survive an extra couple secs with Higher Avoidance (Agi maxed+CA3+LR5)which gives you more of a "chance" to completely avoid some of those 19XX Hits.

That effectively mitigates that hit/miss to ZERO where as AC can only mitigate a hit to its "Minimum Hit" which with Bertoxx i would guess would be somewhere around 300-500Hp.

Without having /Disc... Avoidance>Mitigation when a Mob hits this hard and fast.
and obviously having BOTH High AC and High Avoidance is better than one or the other.
#Yevun, Posted: Aug 06 2003 at 4:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) aye but this is his base dmg an although it will be dropped down to what 1.2k of per hit think of the fact that pure int casters are prolly gonn have just over 3-4k hp an the priest classes are gonna be around 5-6k so a quad for 1.2k will kill any int caster an almost kill a priest an the fact his ae will already have everyone low on hps....

Bert's Look
# Apr 17 2003 at 6:53 AM Rating: Decent
I have looked up some of the books in the evil section of PoK. Ill give you all an overview of why he looks the way he does.
There was a race of people that lived in a city.
They killed lots and lots of dragons. Built houses, weapons, tools etc out of the parts of dead dragons. Bert liked that. So he basically made all the Priests worship him, and the 12 kings as well. Anyhoo, he made the kings wage war for a long time. Btw, the armys were basically all undead, and with all the undead, came a plague, which killed all the people that worshipped him. And so he made himself look like the race he slaughtered just for fun.

Actually, Lxzanvom was the crypt of the kings of that race, the Xulous. The Xulous' worship of their dead kings actually sort of "created" Bertoxxulous in the bottom of the crypt, and he used the rotting corpses of the kings as his physical form. That's where the old look for Bertoxxulous comes in, the one where he's supposed to look like a rotting corpse wearing a flesh mask. Anyway one of the early priests of Bertoxxulous tricked the living King of the Xulous into coming to Lxzanvom, where he sacrificed him to Bertoxxulous. To prevent Lxzanvom from being destroyed by either the dragons or other people afraid of him, Bertoxxulous transported the entire crypt into the Plane of Disease.

All of that is from the books from the human female merchant in the casters' building in Kartis (PoK dark side).

Bertoxxulous is a Ring type event. Your Raid party has 2hours to spawn and clear the 12 kings. You need to do the Carpin event to get to CoDb (basement of CoD). Kings are the named mobs and hit for 1400 or so, enrage, etc. The kings get harder as you progress. They also have a nasty AE dot that will kill your entire force if you don't have GRC ready. This is event is alot of fun. Bertox is just one of the five mini gods flags needed to get to Sol Tower to kill the mighty and powerful Rallos Zek.
Here is a GREAT site that may help those interested in the progression of the planes:

Hope this helps

when you hail the projection that spawns from bertoxx corpse, it will give you a message as to who to talk to. Worry about killing High Priest Ultor first to get the flag to even start the ring for this guy. limited number of hails on the guy that spawns out of ultor too, so you will need kill the whole cycle of red con nameds twice, at least.

There is no limit to the number of flags given for killing bertoxx himself. The mob that starts the ring even is an easy kill considering a raid force necessary to kill the kings and then kill bertoxx. The mob that spawns after you kill the trigger mob is of no consequence and can't be hailed because it can't be targetted. We killed him last night. Everyone in the raid got the flag without anyone complaining that they didn't get a flag. Was considerably more then 35.

The mob that gives you the flag for codb does limit you to 35 flags so you have to do that mob several times to ensure everyone in your guild is flagged properly for access to codb.

As long as you have a tank rotating for the kings set away in the corner ready for the pull of each named that spawns after like every other wave and the mana regen on your clerics and casters, doing this ring is so so easy, until you get to bertoxx himself.

At the end, just before bertoxx spawns take your time to just have the MT solo tank the last king at 50% while you slaughter the adds. Use your enchanters and your necromancers to mez everything during the end and throughout the fights. Use one main assist tank to kill each mob in successession and kill it fast.

When the last named dies bertoxx will spawn. If you aren't prepared things can get rough, so at the end of that fight, be prepared or you'll get into trouble. If you are prepared and clear those adds you can kill bertoxx without much of a problem. Go full force on him till he's dead. After that a projection will spawn and you All can hail it.

It is a fun ring event and even after having done it a couple of times I look forward to doing it again.

Crap loot on him and crap or no loot on the kings considering the effort it takes to get the flag for codb and then to kill the ring event.

How do you get this guy to spawn? Is he spawned normally now or what? Cause I went in there shortly after pop went live and there wasn't a single mob on the second level in the Bristlebane server.

Actually Llanowar you are wrong. If you would've gone to the official EQ site or read the game manual, it shows Bertox as a humanoid with a handsome face and decaying body. He is wearing a large cloak.

SOE decided that they wanted to remake the gods for PoP. They explained that all discriptions prior to PoP were that made of their followers, and not the actual form those gods take.

This post is correct. When you spawn Bertox you also get a message where it says something like "You see a vision of a handsome man with a decaying body. Then the image fades and you are faced with the sickening image of Bertoxxulous." That isn't exactly what is said but you get the idea. Sony know the lore they just decided they wanted to make him look a bit cooler, and they did. He is one **** of a fun fight.
