Six-boxed this guy on Agnarr in an instance. Mostly maxed out level 65 toons, dru cle enc mag wiz bard. Druid tanked. Stuck cleric behind a wall and he avoided one of the two dots. Forget which tho lol. His guards can be split out and that's advisable. They can't be mezzed and do summon. Beyond that, kinda long fight so watch mana. Not a challenge if tank is robust and cleric can maintain mana, especially if just Complete Heal is sufficient. Chanter slow landed. Grummus is not very spell-resistant. Every dot seemed to land first shot and most nukes were unresisted.

Lockout on instance is 2.5 days. In open world Grummus and the Key holder mob respawn in 5 hours, I believe.

Grummus has about 567k hps.

Second time I fought him in an instance, clearing his guards. Was creeping my toons one by one into his "anteroom" and he aggro's on the 5th toon. Dunno why. They all moved into position the same way, Perhaps he paths close to the other side of the door and at some point gets into proximity aggro range.

Note that Grummus wanders slowly between 3 rooms, pausing for a few minutes in each room. This allows you to set up in the first room comfortably if you wait till he moves out, since he is going to go to each room, pause a bit, and then come back, pausing again in each room. Helps especially when boxing.

He rampages, and goes into frenzy mode after 15 minutes.
Killed him with my 70sk and 70clr box. Only cured the curse, just let the disease dots tick and used complete heals, went through 2 harm touches fight took 50 mins, cleric was at 25% mana when he died. Dropped mostly plane of time loot.

On the mandatory round-about way to get to Grummus there is a locked door. To pass through the door you need Gryme's Crypt Key. You loot that from Gryme the Crypt Guardian on the way in. NOTE: It is TEMPORARY.
Not the walkover I expected.

Took him down earlier today with my 72 ranger.

His AEs landed on me, and I had to mostly rely on lobby damage shield and my DDs and Hail due to the slow crippling my DPS.

At about 15% his AEs actually killed my cleric merc, even though she was at 60%+ mana, and i went all out burning him down, with him dying with me at less than 5% hp, literally a sliver of my hp bar left.

Close fight.
Fun encounter

Took down Grummus last night with two three boxes with Mercs (2 full groups). His AOE dots really hurt and brought my group down to 50% a lot before my healer Merc could get us back up. He aggro'd my ranger for a bit, hitting in the 300-500 range mostly, so not too bad. Did need some spot heals with my ranger and beast along the way.

I did land a full slow with my 65 enchanter as well as my other debuffs.

I would definitely sacrifice DPS for healing if I was to do this encounter again. He dropped the mask and shield and some parchments.

Ave level for our groups was probably 67.

Molo'd today as a 78 RNG with a J1 Merc. 20K HP, 2700AC, 2857AA. Merc went OOM from healing herself and eventually died, but I managed to finish the fight (last 30% or so) without her. Earthcaller slowed and used Potameid Salve to clean up most of his AOE. Fight took about 18 minutes start to finish.

Thought Id give this guy a whirl with my F2P boxes. MY group consisted of the following:

74 MAge 400AA
70 warrior 350AA
70 Rogue 220AA
74 app5 healer merc
67 druid 64 aa (friends toon very undergeared)
67 melee merc app5

Well first mistake I should have used a lvl 70 merc for the melee dps ***** up on my part. Of course as F2P can't use J1 mercs so app5 best I could get. Got him down to 38% hp and my healer merc was OOM and the druid's heals couldn't do much for the warrior. Wasn't able to do it. I have the warrior maxed on CS and near max on CA and all the hitpoints buff for the lvl.

WAs worth a shot just wanted to see if it could be done.

Boxed on FV server. 70 paladin & 70 BST - 68 Wolfie pet, both raid geared; just go to bazaar buy what you want. Nothing is "no drop" on our server cept epic items. Thanks to it being undead the fight lasted maybe 5 minutes tops with its 2 add's.. I have killed this several times for fun as I head into the castle to see if the big one is up. I think the spider inside was more of a challenge due to its add's then this "raid encounter".. I think any 70 paladin with slay capped & all atk aa capped & as much atk as possible on can solo this thing. Just hit the atk button and slay will go off. *Note for all paladins* Get your attack as high as possible, this effects how often slay goes off....

Solo Attempt with 70 PAL
# Oct 25 2011 at 3:40 AM Rating: Decent

Hi,

Well, tried to solo this guy at 70, and failed...
70 PAL here
Self buffed, with Distillate of Skinspikes IX and Distillate of Alacrity IX pots only
Stats unbuffed : 12418 HP / 10750 Mana / AC 2319 / ATK 1708
Stats once buffed : 14732 HP / 10750 Mana / AC 2465 / ATK 1741
Was about to forget, 1734 aa's in pocket (everything maxxed out, just miss Cloak of life and one or two others)

Cleared all the way to him solo, including
- Gryme the Crypt Guardian : easy fight, 2-3 mins max
- Aramin the Spider Guardian (long but easy (~10 mins, if you manage to kill her, the 8 spawns on her death won't cause you any difficulty)

Cleared all the potential adds around, med to full mana, and engaged him.

Used Holyforge Disc, then Guard of the Righteous, and Deflection Disc
Used Infusion of the faithfull, Chaotic Jester, Armor of experience and Intensity of the Resolute
Used Hand of Piety (aa group heal)
Used Lay of Hand
Used Staunch Recovery
Jester CH'd me once

Used Ward of Tunare (self proc HOT, 299 hp/tick)
Supernal Cleansing (HOT, 300HP/tick)
Light of Piety (1600 to 1950 HP)
Had a few critical heals.

To my deception, only had very few cleanses, max was around 5K.
DS did 80 dmg a hit

On Grummus side, his spells will land even with saves maxxed out (550 in my case with IotF)
Dots :
Decay of the Plaguebringuer : 261 HP/tick, 60% slow
Stench of Decay : 174 HP/tick
You will be dotted most of the fight.
Used Crusader's Purity to remove them, only to see them coming back on next tick...

This fat baby boy will double, tripple and quad a lot.
Ranging from 114 to 1099... Averaging in the 500 i would say, most frequent hit being 198

I managed to long like 12 mins, but only took him down to 72%.
I really don't think this guy to be soloable by a 70 pally, even the best geared one.

Hope this to be usefull!

5 man'd this old raid encounter on Test. (Warrior/Rogue/chanter/shammie/cleric)

All were 75 except chanter who was 76. With about 14K hp the dot was no problem (Group HoT only sometimes) and shammie was ramp tank with about 10K hp. Healers never got LoM. Don't think we got down 50% on mana

Cleared Both 2 rooms before the area with port in to CoD. Then moved into the first big room and pulled grummy single. Stuck him in a corner and all was good.

Average hit on a 75 warrior with 2.1K AC and Max Defensive/avoidance AA's for 75 was around 700ish (Most hits were for 200-300). Never quaded on me only sometimes doubled. Avoided most his hits with no problem. Killed him with our DPS before repops.

My nec strat
# Aug 09 2007 at 1:16 AM Rating: Decent
Soloed him tonight, 75 NEC/full AA...Didn't use any disease cures =p I would say gear power wise I would fall shy of the full Tacvi/Txevue label. Do have all my main spells including TBS.

I just ran past all the trash to the stairs that lead down to him. FD cleared on back wall corner near the stairs. Started on the 7 trash mob. Cleared them rather easy.

Pre engage self buffed 10.5Khp/11kmana/wraithskin/3 stacked DS's/HoT pots and Lifeshards. 2 tank pets, one suspended of course with RoD and TSS pet shield spells (RS focused) no other buffs or Magi goodies on pet...no vet AAs. DR resist = slightly over 500...self buffed.

Fight strat, lay-ed FD in the far right corner on his right side then waited till he paths near the stairs. Sent pet while fd then clicked epic, slowed him, clicked TSS robe pet buff, popped SoD pets(kinda useless)then hit silent casting.

Used poison dots mainly unless I got GoM/GRoM procs for AG/DP fire dots, also have elemental leggings for dot click. Once I had dots stacked I clicked my CoA class robe. Used heal pots and Lifeshards every time I could pop them. Refreshed clikys/dots throughout fight and tapped when hp went low, along with re slowing. Both pets died, first one lasted a little longer due to AA mend.

End result = Dead Phatty...Did take me 3 trys though =p

Don't know why I posted this hehe, worth a try though if your a NEC, hope this helps. I have no intent on doing him again =)

Misleading
# Apr 23 2006 at 1:44 PM Rating: Decent
I have read all the posts and those listing Grummus as easy are not exactly listing their stat's if he in fact was easy with very few peeps involved. We did him with 22 peeps avg. lvl 66 , half pickup only 3 clerics and all not geared to shabby and included 2 quvic geared , Lvl 70 SK & a lvl 70 Cleric which I might also add are high in ranking on EQ top 100 boards. 2 ~ lvl's ranged 50's . He is no cake walk. I am one of two guild leaders and mostly main raid leader and organizer , main is lvl 70 cleric and among alts have malee classes also including lvl 70 bst. Stratogy: MT & Assist MT. Cleric's on both MT's ,assigned a pally as main cleric bodyguard for any possible adds/repops which we did have and as backup healer to heal cleric and pull agro off them and if cleric goes down cover heal till backup cleric assigned to tanks takes over. We did not focus on MGB hots, our focus was 2 main clerics and MT's. All waited in hall outside room where we would engage grummus excpet MT/puller and his cleric. Once he pulled grummas then all quickly moved in so pet classes weren't a problem. Used a rogue to scout. Even with high resist the dots can be a pain ,but if you can keep these in the fight you should come out with a win. We lost a few during but quickly rez'ed ,all hailed , done ~ Grummus defeated ! If they don't have pet hold kill pet's. They can be a problem and I as 70 bst understand all too well do's and don't of pet classes. A strong pet class player doesn't have a problem killing pet when they are instructed to . They are secure in their own abilities and not dependant upon their pet to save their hide or others. So no I don't agree it's the same as asking a warrior to fight without a weapon. Also at the same time a strong player can control their pet's and most will kill it themselves without being asked if see them as a risk ,but as some stated you can't be sure if their is pickup invovled you don't know. So to pet classes if you have a problem killing pet's then your focus is self centered and should be on all involved. On clerics that are afraid then get a new one is my advice and if you are as one stated I would advise choosing a differant class to play. It's a game ,not real life lol have fun ~ relax. (The higher in lvl you get the more you die. ) GL to All.

Had a little open raid go tonight on Grummus. We had around 28 people in the raid, overkill. One thing you have to look out for is the DOTs, they are killers, fight was over and I (clr) was OOM and I died along with 3 others.... Im only lvl 54 though, i give myself a little slack. He dropped 2 earrings and 4 parchments, i won roll for one earring

The most memorable thing I remember about him is that one of this AE's makes characters puke. Its so funny to see an entire raid lean their heads to the left and let fly their misty thicket picnics all over the floor.

Downed Grummus with 3 groups (including at least 6 boxed toons).

Mainly one group did the job: Tank, rampage tank healers. Other folks were nice and added some DPS and killed adds/respawn.

A good equipped group should be able to handle him. Only problem might be to handle respawning adds.

We'll do Carprin next.

# Feb 03 2005 at 6:53 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know if this is correct or not but my guild tried Grummus last night and he conned yellow to my 69.5 Paladin. I think that this would make Grummus a Lvl 70 mob but listed at 68. Maybe he has been upgraded?
RE: Lvl 70 mob
# Feb 14 2006 at 9:19 PM Rating: Decent
When a MOB is put up here, its generally conned based on its age.. the actual level is decided based off difficulty.

So, when PoP was out, the max level was 65. Red to 65 means 68+. Since he was relatively easy for a raid-class MOB that conned red to a 65, he was marked level 68.

Looks like they changed since your update. You're right, and its appreciated; just letting all know why a MOB would be marked such a level.

Being the top raid leader on my server for this mob ( nothing to brag about but just pre-info ) i can just give this much information for anyone wanting to lead there guild intot this fight.........with a raid force of 35-45 people of lvls 52+ and ARL being 59 or 61 this fight can easily be screwd but SHOULD be done !

First off get a shammy with Blood of Nadox spell in each group if possible ( start with MT group and work ur way down important list )

Secondly, keep him in the North-East OR South-East corner of his first roam room directly infront of bottom of the stairwell.

Burn him at 10% is what i always do and it works out nicely with his ending rampage which screws over lota peeps with less then 6k hp.

Paladin tanks are my favorite on this guy and i wold strongly suggest u use one as well instead of SK or War.

Keep casters at the midway point of the stairwell and the clerics on the LAST STEP of the stairwell and this should keep them outta the top rooms re-pop agro range. ( Which shouldnt be hard to get under control if u got enchanters or necromancers )

Keep a Bard or Rogue, a Paladin, and a shaman on standby for this if u feal its gonna happen.

Move raid upon death to the fights room which once again , is the room directly infront of the bottom of the stairwell and expect adds to come always.

Also if ur takeing care of extras, haveing Beasts MGB Paragon or Perfection at 50%, 25%, and 15%. Druids MGB HoT at any time between 50-70% & 5-20%. Clerics doing ur HoT MGB thang at 85%, 50%, 8% .

For groups with extra healers...Have the extras start blasting ur weak-hp melee when Grummus gets to 7 or 8%.

Gratz! You have Slaim Grummus!
