Grummus  

Molo'd today as a 78 RNG with a J1 Merc. 20K HP, 2700AC, 2857AA. Merc went OOM from healing herself and eventually died, but I managed to finish the fight (last 30% or so) without her. Earthcaller slowed and used Potameid Salve to clean up most of his AOE. Fight took about 18 minutes start to finish.

Boxed on FV server. 70 paladin & 70 BST - 68 Wolfie pet, both raid geared; just go to bazaar buy what you want. Nothing is "no drop" on our server cept epic items. Thanks to it being undead the fight lasted maybe 5 minutes tops with its 2 add's.. I have killed this several times for fun as I head into the castle to see if the big one is up. I think the spider inside was more of a challenge due to its add's then this "raid encounter".. I think any 70 paladin with slay capped & all atk aa capped & as much atk as possible on can solo this thing. Just hit the atk button and slay will go off. *Note for all paladins* Get your attack as high as possible, this effects how often slay goes off....

........SORRY..... I got this undead mixed up with the one outside the castle that holds the key (they look the same). Guess I will have to go try this mob now so I can have an experienced posting....

5 man'd this old raid encounter on Test. (Warrior/Rogue/chanter/shammie/cleric)

All were 75 except chanter who was 76. With about 14K hp the dot was no problem (Group HoT only sometimes) and shammie was ramp tank with about 10K hp. Healers never got LoM. Don't think we got down 50% on mana

Cleared Both 2 rooms before the area with port in to CoD. Then moved into the first big room and pulled grummy single. Stuck him in a corner and all was good.

Average hit on a 75 warrior with 2.1K AC and Max Defensive/avoidance AA's for 75 was around 700ish (Most hits were for 200-300). Never quaded on me only sometimes doubled. Avoided most his hits with no problem. Killed him with our DPS before repops.

Grummus is undead, Cleric Turn Undead and Desecrate Ground both landed with no problems on a solo Cleric kill.

soloed today.

shield of immaculate + cure disease potions cures 2 of his dots, gotta cure these asap it seems these do more damage then his melee.

had 50m left at end of fight.

75 nec max aa 11k hp/ 13.2k mana.

tried to solo grummus today,
14k cleric w 3500 ac and 1200 aa....

i got em to 0% but he won

still a good fight

I have read all the posts and those listing Grummus as easy are not exactly listing their stat's if he in fact was easy with very few peeps involved. We did him with 22 peeps avg. lvl 66 , half pickup only 3 clerics and all not geared to shabby and included 2 quvic geared , Lvl 70 SK & a lvl 70 Cleric which I might also add are high in ranking on EQ top 100 boards. 2 ~ lvl's ranged 50's . He is no cake walk. I am one of two guild leaders and mostly main raid leader and organizer , main is lvl 70 cleric and among alts have malee classes also including lvl 70 bst. Stratogy: MT & Assist MT. Cleric's on both MT's ,assigned a pally as main cleric bodyguard for any possible adds/repops which we did have and as backup healer to heal cleric and pull agro off them and if cleric goes down cover heal till backup cleric assigned to tanks takes over. We did not focus on MGB hots, our focus was 2 main clerics and MT's. All waited in hall outside room where we would engage grummus excpet MT/puller and his cleric. Once he pulled grummas then all quickly moved in so pet classes weren't a problem. Used a rogue to scout. Even with high resist the dots can be a pain ,but if you can keep these in the fight you should come out with a win. We lost a few during but quickly rez'ed ,all hailed , done ~ Grummus defeated ! If they don't have pet hold kill pet's. They can be a problem and I as 70 bst understand all too well do's and don't of pet classes. A strong pet class player doesn't have a problem killing pet when they are instructed to . They are secure in their own abilities and not dependant upon their pet to save their hide or others. So no I don't agree it's the same as asking a warrior to fight without a weapon. Also at the same time a strong player can control their pet's and most will kill it themselves without being asked if see them as a risk ,but as some stated you can't be sure if their is pickup invovled you don't know. So to pet classes if you have a problem killing pet's then your focus is self centered and should be on all involved. On clerics that are afraid then get a new one is my advice and if you are as one stated I would advise choosing a differant class to play. It's a game ,not real life lol have fun ~ relax. (The higher in lvl you get the more you die. ) GL to All.

Had a little open raid go tonight on Grummus. We had around 28 people in the raid, overkill. One thing you have to look out for is the DOTs, they are killers, fight was over and I (clr) was OOM and I died along with 3 others.... Im only lvl 54 though, i give myself a little slack. He dropped 2 earrings and 4 parchments, i won roll for one earring

Well we just tried. Raid was kicking butt. I could not see any way we would fail this. We got there and the target was not up. Oh well.

I don't know if this is correct or not but my guild tried Grummus last night and he conned yellow to my 69.5 Paladin. I think that this would make Grummus a Lvl 70 mob but listed at 68. Maybe he has been upgraded?

Being the top raid leader on my server for this mob ( nothing to brag about but just pre-info ) i can just give this much information for anyone wanting to lead there guild intot this fight.........with a raid force of 35-45 people of lvls 52+ and ARL being 59 or 61 this fight can easily be screwd but SHOULD be done !

First off get a shammy with Blood of Nadox spell in each group if possible ( start with MT group and work ur way down important list )

Secondly, keep him in the North-East OR South-East corner of his first roam room directly infront of bottom of the stairwell.

Burn him at 10% is what i always do and it works out nicely with his ending rampage which screws over lota peeps with less then 6k hp.

Paladin tanks are my favorite on this guy and i wold strongly suggest u use one as well instead of SK or War.

Keep casters at the midway point of the stairwell and the clerics on the LAST STEP of the stairwell and this should keep them outta the top rooms re-pop agro range. ( Which shouldnt be hard to get under control if u got enchanters or necromancers )

Keep a Bard or Rogue, a Paladin, and a shaman on standby for this if u feal its gonna happen.

Move raid upon death to the fights room which once again , is the room directly infront of the bottom of the stairwell and expect adds to come always.

Also if ur takeing care of extras, haveing Beasts MGB Paragon or Perfection at 50%, 25%, and 15%. Druids MGB HoT at any time between 50-70% & 5-20%. Clerics doing ur HoT MGB thang at 85%, 50%, 8% .

For groups with extra healers...Have the extras start blasting ur weak-hp melee when Grummus gets to 7 or 8%.

Killed it yesterday on Terris-Thule : 26 players, average level was 66. Quite quick and easy (2-3' fight) : max hit during the raid was 1200.
His dots are dangerous for caster class :-P.
Drops : Pus Covered Beetle Carapace, Ring of the Pox-bearer and 4 Ethereal Parchment.

NB : for those who are looking for the exit after hailing the projection, it's the rock in the middle of the room, click on, then jump into the hole...that leads you to codecay, then click on the rock in the room and that's fine : you're in PoTQ :).

Just to let all know that are doing this guy, when people say he is easy, they are lvl 65s that did it with a 63+ raid, this guy without Blood of Nadox cure disease spell can easily wipe a raid with just his dots, and FYI to all the lowbies, KILL UR PET BEFORE ENGAGEING !

I recently went on a grummus raid and didnt get flagged for some strange reason...i was told i could do pre flag after we killed him...we dropped grummus i hailed the pp zoned into cod..did pre flag and no flag.was i told wrong in not having to do pre flag before the fight? Needless to say i was bummed.

To give credit where it's due, the Science of War strategy is very sound, but you should tailor it to meet your own needs if you use it, and I'm not sure if it will be available forever (they are no more), so I'll post the way we do it, which is similar.

This fight can be made to look very easy once you have it down, but can easily wipe large raids if you don't. The tactics here are what many use, but you should adjust to your raid makeup as needed, and as you learn the encounter yourself. This is good advice for ALL raids, as each guild has different strengths and weaknesses.

First, a few of the important things up front. Once you decide to start clearing the large room with the ramp leading down to his area, you need to move fast from that point forward. Take all afks, med breaks, etc., prior to clearing that room. Depending on Grummus' pathing, you might be here a bit and don't want to have to deal with respawn. Make sure your cheal rotation is ready before this point, and also have an MGB Heal over Time (HoT) rotation set up. If you have enough druids and beastlords to do the MGB HoTs without needing clerics, they can more easily stick to cheal rotation. Also, make sure you have someone who can remove curses in each group. Doing this stuff in advance makes the rest run much more smoothly.

Once you've entered the large room with the ramp leading down to him, send the rogues down the ramp while clearing the rest of this room. Directly down the ramp is a decent size room where most raids do the killing. Off of that are two other rooms. We call them room 1 (where you kill), room 2, the connecting one, and room 3, the next one after that. Grummus paths between these, and the rogues are there to tell the puller where Grummus is, so they know when they can pull a specific room.

When Grummus is in room 2 or 3, send down a puller to grab the mobs at the bottom of the ramp, and also those inside room 1. When he moves to room 3, you can pull room 2. This is not always mandatory, but I have seen adds if you don't, so I recommend it.

Grummus is tethered, so if you have good crowd control, you can just send a puller in to grab everything and pull him to the hallway prior to the big room leading down to his area. We avoid this, due to pet control issues and the like, but it is an option.

Once rooms 1 and 2 are clear, and if Grummus is not heading to room 1, move the forces down into the fight room. We put the MA and a ranger in one corner facing the door to room 2 and the rest in the other corner facing that same door. When he is pathing into room 1, or is the only mob in room 2, we have the ranger pull him with Weaponshield (be sure you face Grummus while doing this pull) to the MA corner, to buy the rotation time to start healing the tank before he gets aggro.

Once this has started, the warrior can grab aggro from the ranger, and start creating some hate. You do want to abolish disease on the warrior, as he'll be getting slowed fairly frequently by Grummus, so having someone chain that is helpful, but if no one steals aggro, only the MA will be affected by this.

While this is going on, Grummus will be casting 1 or 2 AEs on the rest of the party most likely. One of these, Stench of Decay, is offset pretty well by the MGB HoTs, so have those going. When one drops, do the next one and continue until fight is over.

The other AE, Plasma Decay, is a LOT nastier, and is what seems to wipe most raids who are doing an otherwise good job on keeping MA alive. While it checks against disease, it's a curse, and you're not going to resist it. If you see the skull symbol, which looks like rezz effects, then you have it. When this happens, announce in raid so the curse curer in each group can remove this. Once it's gone, you're likely set, as he only casts once every 4 minutes.

So, keep Grummus on MA, keep MA alive, use MGB HoTs to keep everyone else alive, and cure the curse the one time you're likely to see it, and you're golden!

If it seems difficult the first time or so, do not fret. It really does become trivial soon.

I swear I must not be meant to ever get a flag :(

Earlier today I was in a MB raid in POI and people overhailed and I got no flag :( :(.

Then this evening I got in a raid for this guy. Everythign went great, dropped him quick minimal deaths. The leaders made sure nobody hailed it till all was rezzed. Well not 1 of us got flagged, it depoped.

I hate my luck!!

I zoned into PoD today, just to take a look around since I hadn't been there yet, and I was surrounded by about 100 people. Turns out there was a raid going on, for flags, so I ended up a part of that and "we" killed this creature (while I was a part of the force, I dropped from the DOTs the moment the MT shouted "ENGAGE"). Either way, G went down and we all got our flags (and the AA point from the Dwarf in POK was nice too).

Killed him tonight (2/23/04) with 21 people. I'd say a mix of Tier 1 / 2 / 3 and LDoN gear. Failed the first attempt due to pets attacking him after the AE hit them, which screwed up aggro. The second time we knew to avoid this and knew how many buff slots to keep open (4 on the MT, for the 2 AEs, the proc, and Celestial Regeneration) and 3 for everyone else (2 AEs and CR). Fight lasted maybe 4 or 5 minutes?

Took about 45 minutes from zonein to his death on our second attempt, with 21 people. Thanks Serenity's Tears for organizing the raid!

Took him down last night, started with 72 people in raid on first attempt, by third attempt we were down to 47 people, too many people means too much confusion. Anyhow dropped the ring and the lance. This fight pretty much like vindi in style but i think the MGB heals we did made all the difference, most of us had 330+ DR and PR and never resisted his AE's so your gonna get hit with them at some point, go for max hit points

Been on one raid on Grummus. It went as follows...
First we managed to get TO him without to much trouble. Second someone pulle Grum...Third he walks into room and he must have thrown an AE because..Fourth every pet ran straight to him and died very quickly. Fifth Grum then went to the pet owners who died slightly slower Sixth the healers who tried to keep the pet people alive was next on Grums menu. The tank never had agro, Grum came in the room and thru half the pets before he got on the mob and then it was too too late....it was the funniest raid i had ever seen, and it must happen alot 'cause i see a few raids where pets aint allowed at all
