On the mandatory round-about way to get to Grummus there is a locked door. To pass through the door you need Gryme's Crypt Key. You loot that from Gryme the Crypt Guardian on the way in. NOTE: It is TEMPORARY.
Not the walkover I expected.

Took him down earlier today with my 72 ranger.

His AEs landed on me, and I had to mostly rely on lobby damage shield and my DDs and Hail due to the slow crippling my DPS.

At about 15% his AEs actually killed my cleric merc, even though she was at 60%+ mana, and i went all out burning him down, with him dying with me at less than 5% hp, literally a sliver of my hp bar left.

Close fight.
Fun encounter

Took down Grummus last night with two three boxes with Mercs (2 full groups). His AOE dots really hurt and brought my group down to 50% a lot before my healer Merc could get us back up. He aggro'd my ranger for a bit, hitting in the 300-500 range mostly, so not too bad. Did need some spot heals with my ranger and beast along the way.

I did land a full slow with my 65 enchanter as well as my other debuffs.

I would definitely sacrifice DPS for healing if I was to do this encounter again. He dropped the mask and shield and some parchments.

Ave level for our groups was probably 67.

Molo'd today as a 78 RNG with a J1 Merc. 20K HP, 2700AC, 2857AA. Merc went OOM from healing herself and eventually died, but I managed to finish the fight (last 30% or so) without her. Earthcaller slowed and used Potameid Salve to clean up most of his AOE. Fight took about 18 minutes start to finish.

Thought Id give this guy a whirl with my F2P boxes. MY group consisted of the following:

74 MAge 400AA
70 warrior 350AA
70 Rogue 220AA
74 app5 healer merc
67 druid 64 aa (friends toon very undergeared)
67 melee merc app5

Well first mistake I should have used a lvl 70 merc for the melee dps ***** up on my part. Of course as F2P can't use J1 mercs so app5 best I could get. Got him down to 38% hp and my healer merc was OOM and the druid's heals couldn't do much for the warrior. Wasn't able to do it. I have the warrior maxed on CS and near max on CA and all the hitpoints buff for the lvl.

WAs worth a shot just wanted to see if it could be done.

Boxed on FV server. 70 paladin & 70 BST - 68 Wolfie pet, both raid geared; just go to bazaar buy what you want. Nothing is "no drop" on our server cept epic items. Thanks to it being undead the fight lasted maybe 5 minutes tops with its 2 add's.. I have killed this several times for fun as I head into the castle to see if the big one is up. I think the spider inside was more of a challenge due to its add's then this "raid encounter".. I think any 70 paladin with slay capped & all atk aa capped & as much atk as possible on can solo this thing. Just hit the atk button and slay will go off. *Note for all paladins* Get your attack as high as possible, this effects how often slay goes off....

Solo Attempt with 70 PAL
# Oct 25 2011 at 3:40 AM Rating: Decent
47 posts

Well, tried to solo this guy at 70, and failed...
70 PAL here
Self buffed, with Distillate of Skinspikes IX and Distillate of Alacrity IX pots only
Stats unbuffed : 12418 HP / 10750 Mana / AC 2319 / ATK 1708
Stats once buffed : 14732 HP / 10750 Mana / AC 2465 / ATK 1741
Was about to forget, 1734 aa's in pocket (everything maxxed out, just miss Cloak of life and one or two others)

Cleared all the way to him solo, including
- Gryme the Crypt Guardian : easy fight, 2-3 mins max
- Aramin the Spider Guardian (long but easy (~10 mins, if you manage to kill her, the 8 spawns on her death won't cause you any difficulty)

Cleared all the potential adds around, med to full mana, and engaged him.

Used Holyforge Disc, then Guard of the Righteous, and Deflection Disc
Used Infusion of the faithfull, Chaotic Jester, Armor of experience and Intensity of the Resolute
Used Hand of Piety (aa group heal)
Used Lay of Hand
Used Staunch Recovery
Jester CH'd me once

Used Ward of Tunare (self proc HOT, 299 hp/tick)
Supernal Cleansing (HOT, 300HP/tick)
Light of Piety (1600 to 1950 HP)
Had a few critical heals.

To my deception, only had very few cleanses, max was around 5K.
DS did 80 dmg a hit

On Grummus side, his spells will land even with saves maxxed out (550 in my case with IotF)
Dots :
Decay of the Plaguebringuer : 261 HP/tick, 60% slow
Stench of Decay : 174 HP/tick
You will be dotted most of the fight.
Used Crusader's Purity to remove them, only to see them coming back on next tick...

This fat baby boy will double, tripple and quad a lot.
Ranging from 114 to 1099... Averaging in the 500 i would say, most frequent hit being 198

I managed to long like 12 mins, but only took him down to 72%.
I really don't think this guy to be soloable by a 70 pally, even the best geared one.

Hope this to be usefull!

5 man'd this old raid encounter on Test. (Warrior/Rogue/chanter/shammie/cleric)

All were 75 except chanter who was 76. With about 14K hp the dot was no problem (Group HoT only sometimes) and shammie was ramp tank with about 10K hp. Healers never got LoM. Don't think we got down 50% on mana

Cleared Both 2 rooms before the area with port in to CoD. Then moved into the first big room and pulled grummy single. Stuck him in a corner and all was good.

Average hit on a 75 warrior with 2.1K AC and Max Defensive/avoidance AA's for 75 was around 700ish (Most hits were for 200-300). Never quaded on me only sometimes doubled. Avoided most his hits with no problem. Killed him with our DPS before repops.

Soloed him tonight, 75 NEC/full AA...Didn't use any disease cures =p I would say gear power wise I would fall shy of the full Tacvi/Txevue label. Do have all my main spells including TBS.

I just ran past all the trash to the stairs that lead down to him. FD cleared on back wall corner near the stairs. Started on the 7 trash mob. Cleared them rather easy.

Pre engage self buffed 10.5Khp/11kmana/wraithskin/3 stacked DS's/HoT pots and Lifeshards. 2 tank pets, one suspended of course with RoD and TSS pet shield spells (RS focused) no other buffs or Magi goodies on pet...no vet AAs. DR resist = slightly over 500...self buffed.

Fight strat, lay-ed FD in the far right corner on his right side then waited till he paths near the stairs. Sent pet while fd then clicked epic, slowed him, clicked TSS robe pet buff, popped SoD pets(kinda useless)then hit silent casting.

Used poison dots mainly unless I got GoM/GRoM procs for AG/DP fire dots, also have elemental leggings for dot click. Once I had dots stacked I clicked my CoA class robe. Used heal pots and Lifeshards every time I could pop them. Refreshed clikys/dots throughout fight and tapped when hp went low, along with re slowing. Both pets died, first one lasted a little longer due to AA mend.

End result = Dead Phatty...Did take me 3 trys though =p

Don't know why I posted this hehe, worth a try though if your a NEC, hope this helps. I have no intent on doing him again =)

I have read all the posts and those listing Grummus as easy are not exactly listing their stat's if he in fact was easy with very few peeps involved. We did him with 22 peeps avg. lvl 66 , half pickup only 3 clerics and all not geared to shabby and included 2 quvic geared , Lvl 70 SK & a lvl 70 Cleric which I might also add are high in ranking on EQ top 100 boards. 2 ~ lvl's ranged 50's . He is no cake walk. I am one of two guild leaders and mostly main raid leader and organizer , main is lvl 70 cleric and among alts have malee classes also including lvl 70 bst. Stratogy: MT & Assist MT. Cleric's on both MT's ,assigned a pally as main cleric bodyguard for any possible adds/repops which we did have and as backup healer to heal cleric and pull agro off them and if cleric goes down cover heal till backup cleric assigned to tanks takes over. We did not focus on MGB hots, our focus was 2 main clerics and MT's. All waited in hall outside room where we would engage grummus excpet MT/puller and his cleric. Once he pulled grummas then all quickly moved in so pet classes weren't a problem. Used a rogue to scout. Even with high resist the dots can be a pain ,but if you can keep these in the fight you should come out with a win. We lost a few during but quickly rez'ed ,all hailed , done ~ Grummus defeated ! If they don't have pet hold kill pet's. They can be a problem and I as 70 bst understand all too well do's and don't of pet classes. A strong pet class player doesn't have a problem killing pet when they are instructed to . They are secure in their own abilities and not dependant upon their pet to save their hide or others. So no I don't agree it's the same as asking a warrior to fight without a weapon. Also at the same time a strong player can control their pet's and most will kill it themselves without being asked if see them as a risk ,but as some stated you can't be sure if their is pickup invovled you don't know. So to pet classes if you have a problem killing pet's then your focus is self centered and should be on all involved. On clerics that are afraid then get a new one is my advice and if you are as one stated I would advise choosing a differant class to play. It's a game ,not real life lol have fun ~ relax. (The higher in lvl you get the more you die. ) GL to All.

Downed Grummus with 3 groups (including at least 6 boxed toons).

Mainly one group did the job: Tank, rampage tank healers. Other folks were nice and added some DPS and killed adds/respawn.

A good equipped group should be able to handle him. Only problem might be to handle respawning adds.

We'll do Carprin next.

When a MOB is put up here, its generally conned based on its age.. the actual level is decided based off difficulty.

So, when PoP was out, the max level was 65. Red to 65 means 68+. Since he was relatively easy for a raid-class MOB that conned red to a 65, he was marked level 68.

Looks like they changed since your update. You're right, and its appreciated; just letting all know why a MOB would be marked such a level.

Being the top raid leader on my server for this mob ( nothing to brag about but just pre-info ) i can just give this much information for anyone wanting to lead there guild intot this fight.........with a raid force of 35-45 people of lvls 52+ and ARL being 59 or 61 this fight can easily be screwd but SHOULD be done !

First off get a shammy with Blood of Nadox spell in each group if possible ( start with MT group and work ur way down important list )

Secondly, keep him in the North-East OR South-East corner of his first roam room directly infront of bottom of the stairwell.

Burn him at 10% is what i always do and it works out nicely with his ending rampage which screws over lota peeps with less then 6k hp.

Paladin tanks are my favorite on this guy and i wold strongly suggest u use one as well instead of SK or War.

Keep casters at the midway point of the stairwell and the clerics on the LAST STEP of the stairwell and this should keep them outta the top rooms re-pop agro range. ( Which shouldnt be hard to get under control if u got enchanters or necromancers )

Keep a Bard or Rogue, a Paladin, and a shaman on standby for this if u feal its gonna happen.

Move raid upon death to the fights room which once again , is the room directly infront of the bottom of the stairwell and expect adds to come always.

Also if ur takeing care of extras, haveing Beasts MGB Paragon or Perfection at 50%, 25%, and 15%. Druids MGB HoT at any time between 50-70% & 5-20%. Clerics doing ur HoT MGB thang at 85%, 50%, 8% .

For groups with extra healers...Have the extras start blasting ur weak-hp melee when Grummus gets to 7 or 8%.

Gratz! You have Slaim Grummus!

I think I have a problem. I had a preflag set after speaking with Aldrt Fuirstel and then hailing Elder Fuirstel. My raid then went and killed Grummus and I hailed the projection. Then returned to sick bay and hailed Elder again but I got no AA point and the seer in PoK says "Alder Fuirstel wishes to obtain the ward..."

Did I miss something? I checked the list twice and did everything but actually get flagged and an AA point. The only thing I could think of was that I was killed in the fight and I was rezzed after Grummus was killed. But I didn't think you had to be there when Grummus died to count, just being in the group or raid that killed Grummus.

Why in the world would you want to kill your pets? I have done this event using ONLY pets for tanks. As long as you have pet hold and the owner knows anything about playing a pet class, there is not a prob here with pets.
RE: The All Knowing ! =p
# Feb 15 2006 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
The reason for killing pets is due to the general inattentiveness of dps and pet classes during raids. In general it is safer to kill the pets rather than trusting their owners to be on top of things, that way you don't have to worry about it. DPS are not known for their attentiveness on raids and since most grummus raids these days are open raids with people you don't know it is safer to get rid of the pets rather than to trust their owners.

I agree with ExtraKredit. Why kill the pets?

Pet classes (with the exception of Enchanters without the AAs for pet control) all have /pet back, or perhaps even /pet hold. They should know how to use it. If that player doesn't... that player doesn't belong on the raid.

jvalle, if you can't trust the player to keep control of their pet, how could you trust them not to ninja-loot, ninja-AFK, refuse to cast cure disease on you, etc.?

Yes, asking a pet class to fight without their pet is like telling a warrior not to use an off-hand weapon or shield. A beastlord without a pet is a weak monk; a magician without a pet is a weak wizard; and so on. You're basically telling them they're not allowed to do the best job they can. If I were informed that my beastlord was not allowed to have a pet up, I would probably depart the raid with a curt "Good Luck."

There's only a few events where killing the pets *MIGHT* be warranted... and those aren't Grummus, by any stretch of the imagination. They're the Gates trials, where you have to worry about balancing mob healths, or Simon Says, etc.

asking a pet class to lose their pet is like asking a warrior to tank with no weapons and is absurd. if a pet class cant magage their pet they have no buisiness being on a raid. you dont punish ALL the pet classes cause one of them is a noob, you give the one offender a TL to PoK and a /bye.

I know most groups like to do this with 3 or more clerics who have an MGBable Ethereal Elixir but last night we were able to do this fairly easily with 5-6 groups with 4 shammies in the raid.

The benefit of having the shammies in the raid is the group disease cure spell called Blood of Nadox. Grummus casts his disease dots inoften enough to allow one shaman to cure his group and another. To remove either of his disease dots requires two casts of Blood of Nadox to remove the dot.

His Plasma Decay dot is a bit tougher but the times I've fought him, he only casts it once during the fite (usually towards the end). Its easily enough removed with Remove Curse so make sure that each group has at least one person with either RC or RGC to remove this dot when he casts it. This is the dot that makes or breaks the Grummus kill.

One thing I forgot to mention was that we only had 1 cleric with an MGBable EE. Most of the healing was provided by the druids in the raid. Shammies basically sat back and continuoulsy cast Blood of Nadox on the groups they were responsible for curing.

To give credit where it's due, the Science of War strategy is very sound, but you should tailor it to meet your own needs if you use it, and I'm not sure if it will be available forever (they are no more), so I'll post the way we do it, which is similar.

This fight can be made to look very easy once you have it down, but can easily wipe large raids if you don't. The tactics here are what many use, but you should adjust to your raid makeup as needed, and as you learn the encounter yourself. This is good advice for ALL raids, as each guild has different strengths and weaknesses.

First, a few of the important things up front. Once you decide to start clearing the large room with the ramp leading down to his area, you need to move fast from that point forward. Take all afks, med breaks, etc., prior to clearing that room. Depending on Grummus' pathing, you might be here a bit and don't want to have to deal with respawn. Make sure your cheal rotation is ready before this point, and also have an MGB Heal over Time (HoT) rotation set up. If you have enough druids and beastlords to do the MGB HoTs without needing clerics, they can more easily stick to cheal rotation. Also, make sure you have someone who can remove curses in each group. Doing this stuff in advance makes the rest run much more smoothly.

Once you've entered the large room with the ramp leading down to him, send the rogues down the ramp while clearing the rest of this room. Directly down the ramp is a decent size room where most raids do the killing. Off of that are two other rooms. We call them room 1 (where you kill), room 2, the connecting one, and room 3, the next one after that. Grummus paths between these, and the rogues are there to tell the puller where Grummus is, so they know when they can pull a specific room.

When Grummus is in room 2 or 3, send down a puller to grab the mobs at the bottom of the ramp, and also those inside room 1. When he moves to room 3, you can pull room 2. This is not always mandatory, but I have seen adds if you don't, so I recommend it.

Grummus is tethered, so if you have good crowd control, you can just send a puller in to grab everything and pull him to the hallway prior to the big room leading down to his area. We avoid this, due to pet control issues and the like, but it is an option.

Once rooms 1 and 2 are clear, and if Grummus is not heading to room 1, move the forces down into the fight room. We put the MA and a ranger in one corner facing the door to room 2 and the rest in the other corner facing that same door. When he is pathing into room 1, or is the only mob in room 2, we have the ranger pull him with Weaponshield (be sure you face Grummus while doing this pull) to the MA corner, to buy the rotation time to start healing the tank before he gets aggro.

Once this has started, the warrior can grab aggro from the ranger, and start creating some hate. You do want to abolish disease on the warrior, as he'll be getting slowed fairly frequently by Grummus, so having someone chain that is helpful, but if no one steals aggro, only the MA will be affected by this.

While this is going on, Grummus will be casting 1 or 2 AEs on the rest of the party most likely. One of these, Stench of Decay, is offset pretty well by the MGB HoTs, so have those going. When one drops, do the next one and continue until fight is over.

The other AE, Plasma Decay, is a LOT nastier, and is what seems to wipe most raids who are doing an otherwise good job on keeping MA alive. While it checks against disease, it's a curse, and you're not going to resist it. If you see the skull symbol, which looks like rezz effects, then you have it. When this happens, announce in raid so the curse curer in each group can remove this. Once it's gone, you're likely set, as he only casts once every 4 minutes.

So, keep Grummus on MA, keep MA alive, use MGB HoTs to keep everyone else alive, and cure the curse the one time you're likely to see it, and you're golden!

If it seems difficult the first time or so, do not fret. It really does become trivial soon.

We went after him tonight with 10 groups. Average level of 60... all pre-elemental. We easily got to the room at the bottom of the ramp just outside Grummus' room.

When the MT pulled him, someone jumped the gun and stole agro from the warrior and we lost several people before the MT re-established agro and got him into the corner. At about 40% Grummus hit us with his nasty dot and we started losing people right and left. Everyone in my group went down except me (55 Ranger) and cleric (level 60). I was dotted and down to 25%, called for heal... didn't get one, so I burned my last complete heal potion. Popped Trueshot. Grummus was down to 15%, but the raid was close to wiping.

The dot has me back down to 35% health.. I call for a heal. Nothing.

I'm down to 15% health... my cleric is full health, but don't know where he is, (probably hiding somewhere) I just know he's not healing me. I call for the heal again. Nothing.

Grummus is about 5%, I'm at 3%.. I call for a heal again.. even add a please. Nothing. I recieve a ranger port back to PoK just as Grummus goes down.

Now the fun starts.. as the clerics are rezzing people, some of the survivors start hailing for their flag. A necro gets his flag and decides to leave. But he doesn't gate out, he runs up the ramp. Just about the time I zone in from my rez, the necro comes screaming down the ramp with about 8 mobs in hot pursuit. Half the raid is standing around naked when they hit us. It's a complete wipe. I think one cleric managed to camp out, but was too scared to log back in.

So... we beat Grummus, but it's a do-over. =(

The SoW approach is the best overal approach to take. It can be modified to one extent or another, but hold to the basic principles, and you should succeed.
My guild attempted Grummus the other night and failed to take him as he was pushed the wron way. We had cleared the first two rooms, but had been unable to with the other, which is normal. To try and really clear this last room before hitting Grummus is begging for wipe, if not the raid, at least of the puller.
On Grummus engaement, we managed to push him the wrong way and draw the adds. The link below gives a general idea of what happened.

We pushed him the wrong way and Sheeran, our MT bit it as 60%. Skullbasher, our 2A, bit it at 32%. We wiped at this point as only 6-8 of us were left with Grummus and 2-3 adds.
One point of emphasis. Here is an encounter where not only clerics and shaman shine as healers, but paladins as well. While Pallys will melee in the struggle to get to Grummus, they should be in heal mode for Grummus, especailly during the first crucial moments of the encounter. This is especially true if you are using a smaller raid force. BE SURE that any 60+ pally has the sanctification disc. This gives a +10000 (yes 4 zeros) modifier to disease resist for 18 seconds. This basically makes you immune to one of Grummuses 2 AoEs. I tried this and with about 5400 hp and regen up, my health bar barely moved after AoE hit becasue only Plasma Decay held.

I swear I must not be meant to ever get a flag :(

Earlier today I was in a MB raid in POI and people overhailed and I got no flag :( :(.

Then this evening I got in a raid for this guy. Everythign went great, dropped him quick minimal deaths. The leaders made sure nobody hailed it till all was rezzed. Well not 1 of us got flagged, it depoped.

I hate my luck!!

I zoned into PoD today, just to take a look around since I hadn't been there yet, and I was surrounded by about 100 people. Turns out there was a raid going on, for flags, so I ended up a part of that and "we" killed this creature (while I was a part of the force, I dropped from the DOTs the moment the MT shouted "ENGAGE"). Either way, G went down and we all got our flags (and the AA point from the Dwarf in POK was nice too).

Killed by 21
# Feb 23 2004 at 11:47 PM Rating: Excellent
Killed him tonight (2/23/04) with 21 people. I'd say a mix of Tier 1 / 2 / 3 and LDoN gear. Failed the first attempt due to pets attacking him after the AE hit them, which screwed up aggro. The second time we knew to avoid this and knew how many buff slots to keep open (4 on the MT, for the 2 AEs, the proc, and Celestial Regeneration) and 3 for everyone else (2 AEs and CR). Fight lasted maybe 4 or 5 minutes?

Took about 45 minutes from zonein to his death on our second attempt, with 21 people. Thanks Serenity's Tears for organizing the raid!

Very important when facing this guy. KILL PETS before engagement, or you will have ping-pong aggro, even through walls. Our Guilds first try was a failure because of this.

Took two tries but finally got him tonight. First with Guild 40 ppl avg 63. Our MGB Cleric could not make it, so only I had a MGB Spirit of the Wood. Casted it too early got aggro....Loading Please Wait...Hence Rampage Tank bit it early.
I believe this would have gone smoother with another MGB'er priest.

Next try we combined with others and got a new leader and had 72 ppl ready to go. I think the strategy was poor as it was just spam MT with heals. You MUST have a CHO with this guy. However about 30% of the raid lived and got flagged, the others were not rezzed fast enough and Planer Projection despawned and many ppl were upset. I landed 5 nukes on him, and had no resists. Am guessing that someone was able to Malo him. Repops in his room are insane. There were repops every where even before we started rezzing ppl.

I missed this flag earlier today because some jerk (open raid) hailed PP right after grummus died. Get dead people up fast after he is down.

Planar Projection:
Despawns 10 min after Grummus kill

Despawns 2 min after first hail. (which ever comes first)

this is what I have experienced in my time of getting flagged =(
It took several tries.

Anyway we can get this post pinned at the top of every boss mob discussion board, lol? Most people know about the 2 minute despawn, but far too many people think the PP will hang out forever if you don't hail. He ALWAYS leaves after 10 from what I can tell. This is in case the raid takes down the boss, but subsequently wipes on the remaining mobs.

To avoid people missing flags, rez them in before anyone hails the PP! The first time the PP is hailed he starts a 2 minute timer. After that timer is up he despawns.

Again: rez everyone in before anyone hails the PP.

Took him down last night, started with 72 people in raid on first attempt, by third attempt we were down to 47 people, too many people means too much confusion. Anyhow dropped the ring and the lance. This fight pretty much like vindi in style but i think the MGB heals we did made all the difference, most of us had 330+ DR and PR and never resisted his AE's so your gonna get hit with them at some point, go for max hit points

Just did raid. I'm so suprised we won. the ENTIRE raid had never done it before. We were going on a couple people's advice. We had to figure out which mobs were unmezzable by ourselves. We killed Grummus. I got flag then promptly died right after from his nasty Dots. We so lucky...
