Arguements about damage delay are numerous. One thing we know for sure is if the secondary weapon has not recycled in the time it takes for your primary weapon to cycle you get no chance of a offhand attack in that case. Therefore, what good is a low delay primary weapon if your secondary weapon is half as fast? Fact is your are going to do much less damage if you configure yourself that way. With a 40% or better chance of your off hand weapon attacking each cycle then after your first stike, up to 50% or more of your off hand attacks will fail automatically..now that won't hurt your mob much ehh? Here's the scenario:
Primary hand: Jade Mace: 9 dam 18 delay
Off Hand: Ringed mace of the ykesha 10dam 22delay
Seems like a fast combo to ehh? ..lets see what the POTENTIAL IS...
1st Attack Jade mace hits and Ykesha hit
2nd attack Jade mace hits Ykesha hasnt cycled yet so misses
3rd Attack Jade mace hits and Ykesha Hits
4th Attack Jade Mace hits and Ykesha hasnt cycled yet so misses again
..so every second chance to cycle the Ykesha mace will automatically miss!
The above assumes that the weapons hit everytime and actually only represent when the weapon is available to cycle. Off course if you miss..then you get no chance for damage and no chance for an offhand strike so that can alter things somewhat. As you can see the above combo means that the Ykesha even though a fast weapon will miss the opportunity to cycle very frequently due to the very low delay of the jade mace..now lets reverse the positions, Ykesha in Primary and Jade mace in secondary....
1st attack Ykesha Hits and Jade mace hits
2nd Attack Ykesha hits and Jade Mace hits
3rd Attack Ykesha hits and Jade Mace hits
4th Attack Ykesha hits and Jade Mace hits
etc
etc
etc
....the Jade Mace will ALWAYS be availabel to cycle on the chance of an off hand secondary strike....
With the Slower weapon in the primary hand, EVERYTIME there is chance for a secondary strike the weapon will be available since it's delay is faster than the primary weeapons. One could conclude that the best combo is two weapons of equal delay and the maximum damage potential and least weight possible(due to fatigue factor).
If you want to optimize the offhand weapon attack it should generally be the faster of the two weapons in the case where you have two weapons of differing speeds. In the case of the two weapons mentioned..the 4 point slower delay on the Ykesha should make little difference and the person will be plowing some serous damage and taunt potential..this model will not hold if your slower weapon is more then 40% or so slower than your offhand, In that case I would argue that it would be better to put a slightly weaker, but faster weapon in your offhand. High damage high delay wepaoons are (IMHO) for classes that cannot dual wield.
Just spend the time and get two Jade Maces ;)
