Who should roll on it?

Well I see this in almost every Bow post. Who should be able to roll on it? That is a hard one.

I have a SK and a Ranger and I have to say that this bow or others like it with great Ranged items stats would be a great addition to either character. I have to say that my ranger would make much better use of it.

Who should be able to roll on it? I would say that depends on what the ranger in the group is using for a bow. Have the Ranger link the group the Bow he is using and if this one is more than a minor upgrade then it goes to him, if not then it goes up for roll to anyone that CAWU including the Ranger.

No Rangers don't deserve to have every bow that drops in the game because they have AM3 but they do deserve to have the best since it is rapidly becoming the perfered method for Ranger Damage.

it depends on what system your guild is using for loot.

/random. if your guild is casting lots* for loots, you're in a guild that's way too noob to kill agnarr. so don't worry about it.

merit. if your guild is on a merit system (and if they're kiling agnarr, they probably are), then a ranger will get this bow. it will do more for the guild to award an am3/eq ranger this bow than any other class. if all the rangers present on the raid have this or better bows, then they'll hand it to another class - hopefully a person who deserves it.

dkp. if your guild is using any sort of dkp system, any of the five classes above stand an equal chance at getting this bow. i personally disagree with this theory. i suggest a 1.5 modifier to a ranger vying for a bow. the same for +aggro weapons for warriors and pokers for rogues.

-for a dkp bids system. 10 dkp on a ranger who wants this bow would be the equivalent of 15 dkp for anyone else. this way, it's easier for these classes to get the upgrades they need to help the guild. under a bids system, if one raid-devoted warrior really wants this item for his range slot, he can still get it before anyone else. but it'll cost him.

-for a dkp /random system. that is, you take a list of everyone who is willing to spend the dkp on a certain item, then use /random to determine the winner. if each candidate for a bow is using /random X Y, rangers should get a 1.2 modifier on their roll. on a /random 1 100, that means any ranger who gets more than 84 has cut off non-rangers from winning. but 84 is a pretty high roll.

-for a dkp alpha random system. an alpha roll is /random 1 X, where X is the number of people who want the item. each person is assigned a number based on their alphabetical placement in the list of people who want the item. if the roll turned up 1, Aaaaniden would win. if it turned up X, Zzzthorn would win. if rolling for a preferred class item, each member of the preferred class should have their name entered twice. if 20 people want to loot this bow and 5 are rangers, well.. i think it's crappy chart time. one to display the effects of double name entry for preferred class loot's preferred classes.
total #interested/#preferred loot class(PLC)/initial % loot chance/modified PLC %chance/modified non-PLC %chance

#i #plc %c %plc %nlc
 4 1 25 40 15
 4 2 25 33.3 16.6
 8 2 12.5 20 10
 8 4 12.5 16.6 8.3
16 2 6.3 11.1 5.6
16 4 6.3 10 5
16 8 6.3 8.3 4.2
20 2 5 9.1 4.5
20 5 5 8 4
20 10 5 6.6 3.3
25 5 4 6.6 3.3
25 10 4 5.7 2.9
25 15 4 5 2.5

hope that gives you a rough idea. 22 looters for the item is the ideal number. but since they're regularly 4-10, the double name bonus is overmuch. but .2 of a name in an alpha roll is kinda hard =P

sorry for the long post.

*casting lots. an ancient form of gambling/making decisions, fairly equivalent to rolling dice.

Smiley: lol I love the chart man.

I totally agree. As a warrior, I'd absolutely LOVE to have +10 sta and +110 HP in my ranged slot, but seriously folks, if i can better the DPS of my guild by putting this in the hands of a EQ / AM3 ranger that could use better, that increases my chances of getting that uber range slot in future, higher level encounters due to the higher DPS of the RAID FORCE AS A WHOLE.

I'm sure 90% of the "My warrior wants this", "My SK could really use that +mana" crap is coming from lvl 39 people still thinking Dreadlands is Uber XP. Guys, do us a favor, "I want this bow!" is fine, but quit actiing like you know what the hell you're talking about. Smiley: laugh

Edit: However, if this is (and by no means do i think this is possible) a Pick Up raid, or the rangers all have Stonewood or something, go for it warriors, Pallies, and SK's. god knows i will. Smiley: wink2
