Quote Squire sharra: actually in a well rounded group a ranger shouldn't take any damage other than riposte and spell damage. that's what a warrior is for.

Lets not exagerate here, if all you can do with your ranger is cast spells you should be a druid or another *spell oriented* (vs melee oriented) class. I agree that warriors are better tanks and have more hps but a ranger can definitely be #2 tank in the group, assuming the warrior is #1.

P.S. I agree with your comments about pvp though, resists are VERY important, if they root you you're pretty much dead lol.

Okay, sorry - I know this thread is supposed to be about this ring, but I feel compelled to respond to this comment:

"Lets not exagerate here, if all you can do with your ranger is cast spells you should be a druid or another *spell oriented* (vs melee oriented) class. I agree that warriors are better tanks and have more hps but a ranger can definitely be #2 tank in the group, assuming the warrior is #1."

Ummm...speaking as a level 65 ranger, most of us actually shoot arrows at stuff, not cast spells. I'm full of mana most of the time because the majority of my energy is put into snaring mobs and then shooting as many arrows at them as I possibly can. Most of the time, you're doing this well out of melee range, so you don't incur any damage. In fact, if you get a good bow with a long range, you can be out of spell range, too, and still be doing awesome damage.

It's true that I can fill in for a tank if I absolutely have to, but it's obvious that's not the ranger's primary role. Yep, we have taunt - but it maxes at a skill level of 150. Yep, we have disarm - but it maxed at a skill level of 50. Yep, we can have a lot of hitpoints, but we'll never be a substitute for a paladin, warrior, or shadowknight in a group.

In Planes of Power groups, I'm definitely NOT a tank substitute. In somewhere like Nadox, well, I can make an okay tank. It all depends upon what you're fighting and who else you have in your group, really.

But over all, a ranger's best damage is going to be dealt from a distance - with arrows (not spells).

Now, on to this ring -- I know a lot of people say this is "crap", etc., but sometimes there's something to be said for actually working on and completing a quest. This game is called EverQUEST not EverLOOT-ALL-YOU-CAN-AND-DON'T-DO-ANY-QUESTS. Who can deny the fun and satisfaction derived from finishing such a complicated quest?

It's true this ring is certainly not the best thing in the game, but it's still a pretty nice piece with a lot of stats, and it takes some skill as a player, as well as a lot of dedication, to obtain it. Think of it not only as a piece of equipment, but also as a trophy to your level of dedication to the questing aspect of this game.

Lets get something straight... a ranger isnt a warrior, yes. But a ranger IS a backup tank and can sometimes be called to do that in any situation. I play a cleric and although I dont like healing rangers, they arent as bad as rogues/casters etc. On a vindi raid a few days ago the warriors ate it at 10% and the rangers tanked him, and even though it cut down our mana fast we did keep the ranger up against a pretty hard hitting mob, even tho we did eventually wipe ( We all died when he was at 1% =\)

Rangers at high levels are NOT tanks.... Yes, we can fill the role in a pich if needed, at a much higher mana cost to the healer.. but we wear chain armor... there is no way we can compete with the Warriors, Paladins, and SKs out there.. and let me tell you, except for big named mobs, I would take a pally over a warrior for tanking... Chain stun is godly on most mobs... Even mobs that can't be stunned, the paly has many more resouces than the Warrior. Now on something like Vindy, AoW, etc, gimme the warrior for sheer HP/AC.
