My group camped this fella, and he only spawned once in 7 1/2 hours.......And he dropped the bag! GRRRRRRR I had a 50/50 shot at the belt too...Assassin spawned 7 times in the same time, and dropped mask 5 times, and Serrated Bone Dirk twice. The supplier conned white to my group's level 36 enchanter....so he is 36 I guess. Fights like 41-44 tho GRR. Oh well, I dinged 42, and made 3 yellow bubs into 43 so it isn't a total loss hehe =P

NBG = Need Before Greed

It means, if your a right class and havent got this item, you can have it without roll... neat rules. Don't cheat..
RE: What does NBG mean?
# Aug 12 2001 at 11:27 PM Rating: Good
NBG is ok in some situation for example when you are raiding dungeon with large group 10-15 ppl and you plan to get lots of items.... but in a secluded group.... no way....

If your group is camping *** SUP room and after
3 hours the Assasin drops a SBD everyone has equal chance of getting it... cos despite the fact the Rouge in the group can use it.... everyone else can sell it and in tern buy the Items they need.

If NBG was the common looting method the economy of EQ would go down the drain... WestCommons would be empty with no one auctioning for items

And Rooms that needed Certain classes to control eg. Chanter when the mob doesnt drop anything a chanter can use... (just doing it for money) would be a whole lot more difficult... cos no Chanter is gonna want to hunt there.

NBG can be really nice. Most Raids I have been on, have used NBG. The reason I like NBG so much, Hunting in CT Ravenscaled arms droped. We had a rouge in the group who still had Patchwork arms. The Wiz and Druid both demanded it be randomed, while the other three non Rouges in the group wanted to give to the Rouge. But the Wiz and Druid (druid looted the arms) both said they were going to leave group unless we randomed. Druid also added he would take the arms with him. Everyone ended up rolling, and the Warrior won the random, and gave to the Rouge. Both Wiz and Druid ******* about him giving the arms to a group member who lost the random.

If you win a roll, you are free to give the item to whoever you want, if you would like to that is. Nobody has the right to tell you how to use your item after you win it :) I personally would go out of my way NOT to group with that druid again.
RE: What does NBG mean?

NBG is a rule necessitated only because EQ and sony/verant were too stupid to make so few items no drop, which causes twinking to be rampant. In a group where someone needs an item like those ravenscale I think you should have booted the druid for suggesting he would leave and take the arms as soon as he got his low roll off. what a couple of money grubbing freaks, just like wizards and druids usually are, like they can't make enough money porting around a little bit they gotta hog everything, quad kite, and farm low level dungeons too, kings of KSers too. thanks for the rant time.

P.S. I am so glad that they added a whole lot of real awesome no drop items on Luclin, its about friggin time!

Most uber guilds have black lists. And yes I would have added them to mines black list. Just remember, one day that "little" guy that you just stiffed will one day have his revenge. Because you never know, he may be the only one to help you in a bad situation. And if it were me, I'd tell'em no.
RE: What does NBG mean?
# Oct 04 2001 at 2:08 AM Rating: Decent
Don't know about anyone else but from the sounds of that instance I'd write down the names of the wiz & druid & not camp with them again, as well as posting 'em on guild page as an FYI for guildmates. It's fine if most everything is lotto'd in a group, but something class specific like Ravenscale is dropping, and there's a rogue with PW or similar still, give the poor guy/gal a break & let 'em have it. That's as bad as groups in Dalnir doing a lotto for Fighting Batons when there's a monk in the group who doesn't have any. (Yes there are non-twink monks without, Just not too many. I got my first one on a Dalnir raid not too long ago at 35.)

NBG is wrong, denying the rest of the group from an item that drops which they could sell and then buy an item they can use, if an item dropped that was my class only i would sure as hell let the rest of the group lotto on it and not hog all the loot
RE: What does NBG mean?
# Aug 06 2001 at 7:57 AM Rating: Default
Well nbg mostly is for Class Specific items. Look for Fs stuff some raw-hide stuff NO NBG, thats just for MONEY. Like the ravenscale part, i would have as grp leader thrown them out or start a new grp without em. Every1 needs money (in this game), but if you are a pure caster lets say of level 38 and a item drops that is pure casters only, wouldn't u be pissed off if you were the only caster that could use the item and the Rog won the roll and sold it for Ph3wt Lw3t???

Yes i know you would. And no you wouldn't like it if some warrior won the roll infront of ur nose, while you are still using raw silk in that one spot. Also c'mon if ur Twinked As Hell and that first time player still uses patchwork and doens't have all velium jewelry but just silver, wouldn't you like feel a LIL' bit sorry for him, JUST A LIL' BIT SORRY???

Hmm, do you think it's fair for Cobalt Gaunts to go to a shaman so she can twink her level 2 warrior with it? No.
Or how about camping FBSS and being told you can't roll on it even though you are the only person in the group who would make use of them?

The Supplier is lvl 36 - 38 (not sure which), hits in the 90s and can't be solo'd by a lvl 41 pal. It is NOT a lvl 30 mob as posted by Anon.

He does spawn by assassin though, common is the light burlap sack.
NBG
# May 15 2001 at 1:41 PM Rating: Good
Well I had just joined an ***/sup group last night when he spawned, we killed him, and he dropped TBB. We run back up to the loft after various woots and hoorays, and I say "1000?" The other members say "No, the monk gets it, NBG"

=| I made a small case pointing out that a paladin had just as much need for such an item, but was pretty much told since they were all friends and I just joined up, and since monk was higher lvl (and some bs about how this is best monk belt in game laf), I didnt really put up much of a fight. I've just now woken up this morning, and I feel ripped off. Especially after I told a 52 monk friend about it and he laughed and said paladins need the belt more.

Anyway, just curious what anyone else thought about that. I do realize its 0.5 weight, etc, but to me that doesn't automatically default it as monk gear...

(ps... all this after losing a roll on fbss to a chanter =P)

I'm not going to state what classes should have this belt and which classes can't have it here, since that is an exercise in futility. NBG is tricky at best when you are in a pickup group since you can never be certain of the other members intent and honesty. I'd say that a monk should go with an fbss in his waste slot but on the other hand maybe the monk had chitin handwraps or CoF and wanted ac in that slot. Then you can start discussing how much need a monk with an 11k item in his hand slot has for this over a guy with leather and stuff but as I said, it's tricky.

The only way to do a dungeon like this if you want the items in it is of course with friends and guild mates. By level 40 you have met many players and should have made some friends. That of course depends on how you have acted in your previous groups. For instance, rolling on everything, everywhere, is not a good way to make friends. Personally, if I have a better or equivalent item I never roll on it. Never. If the group insists on rolling and I win, I give the item to the person who needs it. Simple, and it gains you a whole bunch of friends willing to come help you in situations like these. At level 49 I still didn't have a haste item so I came down LGuk to have a look at the FG. It took me a while to find him and when I did he wasn't camped. So, I took a look at the guild and asked a cleric to come with me. She had nothing better to do so she agreed. There were no chanters on and none on my friends list so I had to invite one from outside. 12 hours of camping and 2 belts dropped, one went to the chanter who immediatly picked up and left and one went to another melee who also left as soon as he got it. Tried again later in the week, and this time had a chanter friend come down, a level 55 cleric that I know and who's in my guild. I was level 50 and we had no trouble handling the spawn in there. A level 49 wizzard friend that I had met in KC asked me if he could join since he only had 3 blue bubs till level and of course we let him in. 2 hours and I had my belt and in the meantime we had alot of fun pulling like 6 mobs and letting the chanter and the wizz practice some AE killing. The wizz got his level, we stayed so that the people on the waiting list could invite some people to form a new group and not have to face a full pop and then we left.

Moral is, if you have acted well and basically been a nice person in your group life you should have friends willing to help you out. I have myself helped people camp stuff that I have no possible use of, just because I like them and want to help out. NBG works in many ways, one of them is gaining you friends. Druid vambraces drop in KC, of course you give it to the druid. Next time you are shouting for a port in WC he just might remember you and help you out. It's a give and take thing, if you never give, don't ever expect to receive.

Need before greed, a wonderful concept. I just wish it WERE practiced more often. I've lost out on so many items I've needed to upgrade my armor that I've about given up on the whole game, and I was the only warrior in the group in quite a few situations. I don't CARE if some enchanter thinks he should roll for an item that is melee only, just because he was there. It's us tanks that keep his sorry butt alive when he nukes too soon and gets aggro. So what if he can't sell something to get an insane amount of plat, he's still alive at the end, because of the efforts of the TANKS. (the most underrated, over abused class in the game) We have the hardest epic, very few drops in the uber zones, and have to take all the damage in a fight. If the drop is for a caster, I don't even bother to roll, because they can help me kill the mob faster if they have better stats, but it's rare to find some who feel the same. (gets off the soapbox)

umm from a friend of mine (54 pali)pali epic is prolly the hardest one (rogue bein the easiest)i think warrior is inbetween(??) also you said in the end the warrior keeps the casters alive.... lol if everyone thought like you there would be no chanters for clarity, haste, or crowd control
no clerics for healing (tho you didnt mention clerics... im assuming you might be suggesting it since you gotta pull the aggro off them too) so in the end.... EVERYONE keeps EVERYONE ELSE ALIVE!
cant just say 1 class does all the work... yes warriors take the beating and they die alot but theyd die alot more without all the other classes around.. (not a high lv myself but its a minor thing called COMMON SENSE! that lead me to post this)

Yes, no kidding. What kind of Enchanter nukes anything in a group? Ill tell you what kind, a DEAD one. I play 52 chanter on Drinal and if i nuke im dead. We all keep each other alive. No one class does it all.

You got screwed bad and I'm sorry to hear it. It is a good idea to check loot rules in most locations but in your case things in guk are pretty standardized and who would have suspected that your group would pull that.

I do notice that lately with some newer players that are reaching high levels so fast and have so much nice stuff, they never paused to learn the ettiquette of the game. Therefore the world of Norrath is becoming more and more cut-throat.

As for two people monopolizing frenzy and not letting anyone else in...that is clearly BS!!! Is nothing sacred?
RE: NBG
# Jun 05 2001 at 8:54 PM Rating: Decent
I think that is BULL. You did part of the work so you should have a chance at the loot. Sorry to hear you got screwwed. However I think this is a Damn fine belt. Expect to get one for myself yet.

My next quest is this belt. It is THE belt for me as a Pally. I wish I had gotten it sooner. Perhapse you should have asked about loot when you joined the group?
RE: NBG
# Jul 02 2001 at 8:30 AM Rating: Decent
I agree, you should always ask a group when you first join to see if you want to stay or not. Always ask about loot orders, rolling drops, etc.. This should help you determine if you want to stay or not... You got ripped pal, but it sounds like you brought it on yourself...
RE: NBG
# May 17 2001 at 4:32 PM Rating: Excellent
Yeah you got the shaft. Guk is in no way set up to be NBG dungeon. All the spawns are static, if your group is camping a certain area you know what will drop before hand. There's no mystery as to which mobs drop which items.

As for the chanter winning the fbss, that part I think is legitimate, he assumed just as much risk being in there as you did, just as you did with the TBB.
RE: NBG
# May 20 2001 at 10:16 AM Rating: Default
Let's just state the rule.

EVERYTHING in Lower Guk is /random. NO NBG!

Otherwise only casters would camp the AM and only melee would camp the Frenzy. And trust me, 6 good tanks vs the Frenzy spawn are pretty much toast.

In Lower Guk groups recently (with the nifty loot available other places) it has become more acceptable to have LESS then 6 person groups and put everyone else on waiting lists. You don't need 6 people in every spawn anymore, and there are other places to go for exp. (Saw one 2 person frenzy group, and they refused to make or keep a waiting list. Now that seems a LITTLE greedy...)

If there is a special circumstance (like a level 53 mage camping the Ghoul Sage) where they can solo the spawn, don't need to pull other green mobs, etc etc there has been a few cases of "you can group up, take all the trash mob loots, but _I_ get the next *nifty item* to drop and we aren't rolling on it" ... But that needs to be clearly stated when you join the group. And as always...

CHECK THE LOOT RULES FOR THE PICK UP GROUP BEFORE YOU KILL ANYTHING!! Period. End of story. You didn't check the party loot rules, too BAD! You have to abide by them anyway.
RE: NBG
# Jun 05 2001 at 4:20 AM Rating: Decent
The only way I have seen it need before greed, if the group is all friends. They alreayd have it worked out, however they should not let someone else in(non friend), who is there and is helping them not have a shot at it. You deserved a roll... even though you had 5 againist one, you deserved the shot. Sorry to here about you being ripped off.

Then people should start updating the pricing by putting down how much they paid or traded to get it. I've seen exactly one so far, and it went for 6500, so the price can vary quite a bit, depending on time, location, and server. On Tholuxe Paells, they go for about 5500-7000, whereas on Tallon Zek I've seen 'em as low as 3100.
Price?

THe price is how much you want to make from it.. you can hold on to it for 3 months before you find a buyer that is desperate enought to pay for it.

Middle spawn in the Assassin room and has a PH. Level 30 melee mob kill as normal but root or snare becase it does run. I have been farming for 24 hours of playing time kill 12 and still no Belt so it is very rare. Hope this helps.
