Book Text:
1. The soul of an individual is woven of mana energy, just as the body is woven of flesh. This energy is woven into a creature by the god that creates it.
2. The gods sometimes take an interest in mortal souls, and may use their powers to return them to a resurrected body. Be aware that these sorts of boons and favors often come with strings attached. Remember that gods are often interested in increasing their power in the mortal planes, and some will go to great lengths to gain mortal allies.
3. Each soul is defined by certain aspects of their mana-weave. These aspects can be improved over time by the individual.
4. The most important of a soul's aspects is its integrity. The very presence of a soul in a body, and the soul's connection to its body, can be jeopardized by mental and emotional trauma. It is important, then, to reinforce the integrity of one's soul through daily quiet meditation.
Souls which lose their connection to the body may be cast adrift across the timeless planes, possibly becoming fragmented and misshapen, and vulnerable to harmful influences. Souls may bear scars and wounds from past trauma; such flaws are readily apparent to those who are trained to see them.
5. Articulation of the soul's mana-weave determines the character of any special energies it may possess. It has been seen that the weave of a magic-user's soul is very different from that of an ordinary person. Practicing various magical arts will lead to alterations in a soul's articulation. The more articulate the soul, the greater the number of magical abilities it may command, and the greater the quality of such abilities.
| 6. Purity of the mana-weave is another important aspect to consider. Those who have lived strictly by a beneficial moral code will typically attain the highest purity, and so are able to command greater innate magical power. Those who live wickedly tend to gain their power by stealing it from the souls of others through magical trauma.
