worth it

i just finished my shackle of tynnonium quest.. took about 15hrs to do in total ( all shackles combined ) and i think its definately worth it... think of it this way.. its almost as good as a combo of bracelet of might, fortitude, and half a quickness, but no drop. anyways. its definately worth the time as long as ur about lvl 40+ for the trials
HUGE tip here...

Ok, If you can get to lvl 49 or 50 or what ever you need to be to get the Overthere port hammer, you will be FAR FAR ahead of the game to get the faction off braids and get the hammer BEFORE you destroy your faction with the outpost by killing stuff in Kaesora and city of mist.

So, I am not sure when you can get the hammer, perhaps you can get it at any lvl and just not use it till you get lvl 51 or so... either way, it is much easier to get before damage your faction more with these quests.

Just a heads up from someone who wishes he had the info a long time ago.

Yes if you have the right faction or use one of those puppet string things, you can get the hammer at any level. As you also stated it doesnt work until 51. My DE mage hunted solo in OT from 35 to 45, pre KEI nerf thank ye gods, and I was able to get the faction and complete the quest by level 40ish.Smiley: twocents

/Hail fellow Monks!
I have just received my Shackle of Tynnonium and now wear it proudly!
For those contemplating this quest, I strongly suggest leaving teh Kaesora part till last, as you lose your Steel Shackle. I did it first with my regular group. Whilst your are there gor for the failed raider (note for the WF quest, give the coin to a passing bard ;-) and Xalgoz for the Charassis key quest. Hey why go back to that forsaken place?
I have re-quested nearly to the Steel shackle once more, and I hope to have both Shackles again soon.
I was level 45 and I solo'd both Glox and Rinmark.
Both quest versions are about level 44 (Rinmark was Dk Blue to me, his other incarnations were VERY red).
How:
I got buffed to the teeth and used a Kilva's Blistering Flesh Potion, as suggested. (Better yet, get the Kilva's Fiery Skin (??) higher DS
These days it is possible to find many Enchanters casting KEI for donations in Bazaar and Nexus- ask them for a shot of "Speed of the Shissar" from ther Epic - it was free for me, lasted about 45 mins.
I also got MGB'd with Hand of Virtue - Though Aego bought for 20-100plat would do an equivalent job. Finally, I got lucky and a nearby Shaman cast Harnessing of Spirit on me, again, I got it for free, but it is usually available for a cost.

Otherwise, I am not twinked (Izaak is my Main) but I am well equipped - all store bought or quested gear- Acrylia Reinf/Studded, Spider fur neck, back and waist, Velium Diamond rings, SCHW for haste. My weapons are GSC (A long wait FD'd (that on on loan from a friend, ...OK a bit of twinkage!) One or two other items in odd locations, nothing Uber though.

Go for it, you can do it!
I solo'd (with buff help) both the Grandmasters in one evening. One Long Evening.
I had about 8 LD's after the recent patch... one for each zone including the boat to TD. Not fun, watching your buffs tick away whilst you get 1018 "active Character" errors!

Best of luck, I hope this info helps all aspiring broodlings and softskins out there. This is a marvellous piece of kit!

Got mine with some problem
# Nov 26 2002 at 9:27 PM Rating: Excellent
I got my shackle just the other day and I love it. All the BS I did before makes it all worth it. I got the mark of agilty with some effort. The first 2 trys I got my *** kicked thank you FD. the 3rd I just camped threw the wall went to a shaman friend got a sta buff and harrnessing of the spirts and went at him. . .needless to say he got his *** handed to him I didn't even need mend that try. Next the mark of patiance went to TD with another monk friend of mine Klic lvl 56(hes my mentor if you will teaches me everything). Once again. . .pwnage. . .Klic tanked I was doin mad dmg it took longer for him to go through his transformations than if did to kill him. After that i went solo. I went off to Kaesora I got to the liberay np but when I got up to run to the keeper several mobs aggro I tried to fight them off half way threw the fight I hit mend and relized I'm not goin to win this one with 5 mobs and only have takin out 2. . .I FDed and than it happened every monks nightmare a caster got off on last spell after that I knew I was done. . .I died after being pissed off for a few minutes it hit me "just get a invs vs undead potion" DUH it only took an exp death to figure it out. anyway I got the potion got my body invised again ran to the keeper got my tomb. . .NOW this is where u need to pay attention READ YOUR TOMB. there are 10 different ones I unfortunatly did not know this. Went to Bain gave him the tomb and the CoM basket. . .nothin. . .Thinking it was a glitch I petitioned. . .I remembered the name of my tomb(dim white tomb) got the RIGHT piece and turned it in. Worked just like a multi-quest and got my mark. Well I'm not gonna go into it in fear of losin my shackle *wink wink* I loged for a bit can back had my 3 marks and a little suprise from the GMs *cough something made of steel *cough *wink wink anyway I got my shackle of ty. . .I sujest if u don't have jboots get a sow and a lev or lev ring(mage summoned) and go to Veltar in DL. its and EASY quest campared to the others. I did the quest at lvl 49 I'm 51 now.

A variation on Mark of Clarity, one I got, was instead of getting the basket, I had to get an earthenware bowl form Swamp of No Hope. Going into the froglok village, eventually you'll find a big hut with no frogloks in it, the bowl is a groundspawn in one of the water buckets in the back. This is the item you need to get if the tome keeper gives you a "dim white tome." Whatever tome you get, make sure you read the instructions, don't just assume you knwo which piece to get! There's several different quests for the Mark of Clarity and which one you get is chosen at random.

P.S. These tomes are written in Lizardman, hehe. So if you're human and doing this ,get an iksar to teach you the Lizardman language.

How far can you MQ this for a human monk ?

Does only the dust shackle MQ, or can you use one of the higher ones, as well, to save time ?

You have to raise your faction to mid-amiable to do these quests. You will have to do a little bit of MQ for the bronze, since human monks can't forage, but other than that, easy to do yourself, once you get the faction you need.

Edit: All of the 5 foraged items needed for the bronze shackle have since been changed to be tradeable (actually only the Rile's Sand Coin ever was no drop, but now it isn't), so you can get someone else to forage them for you. Human monks can do this quest themselves, just have to do a lot of faction work (and get a forager to get them their bronze shackle items).

P.S. For mark of clarity, the tomes are written in Lizardman, so if you're human, get an iksar to spam you in Lizardman til you're master at that language.

I'm guessing probably not just because of the faction needed to do any of the higher quests... it's probably the same for an iksar doing WF has to get higher faction with humans... I got a monk to 45 one time and got him through the steel shackle... makes me wish I kept that account hehe... monk tendancies springing up :)
Just finished the quest
# Jun 15 2002 at 11:21 PM Rating: Decent
I just finished the quest tonight , was pretty easy actually . The hardest part was that I dont know Kaesora or CoM all that well ,but If I knew the area it would have been really easy .
51 with wu's trance stick and Putrid claws (14/30)
schw and 953 AC .. oh and shaman DS potion for 26 dmg.. I was able to easily take out Glox , Rinmark was a bit tougher FDed the 1st fight then let him respawn (about 30 minutes) and was able to take him the second time. Kaesora wasnt to bad once I figured out how to get to the Library , you can just FD your way there , then got the pale white tome which leads to CoM stable area for a ground spawn ...same as Kaesora , once I found my way it was simple . Some of the other shackles were more work then this one , but guess we did all the work previously :) Did this whole quest in one day, about 8 hours actually , and most of that was in Kaesora being lost :)

now on to do the shackle of steel again ,cant wait to make that hammer procs 50 + times LOL
I know you can multi-quest the shackle of dust , but just gonna do most of the lower shackles with the procs hammer.

Getting out of Kesora is easy. I did it no problem. Faught Glox, looted mark and escape potion. Camped my way through door to shaman guild (took 3 camps to get all the way through). Ran down to Tombkeeper, got Dark Black Tomb, used escape potion to get back to FoB. Very easy.
Talking to him
# May 24 2002 at 11:37 PM Rating: Good
How does a solo monk get up there to talk to him? I tried pulling him, but couldn't get a clean shot w/ a shurikan. Doesn't seem to respond to hails through the floor, either.

No longer an issue, he now spawns on the ground inside the ruins instead of on top of them. Just walk in to talk to him. A lot of mobs wander through here, but Veltar just kills them.

I think the best thing is to bring a bat wing or a stack and a bit of cash and offer the wings/cash to a caster nearby at one of the ruin camps in return for a levitation. Usually they will do it, you run up the hill just northwest of Veltar (lots of mobs path over this hill btw), and run southwest to the top of the ruin he is on. You might need a SoW. A spirit of eagles spell is overall the best for this.

Well, I am a monk doing the third trial, of peace of mind. Got a clue about getting a worn metal ring. Supposedly drops from creatures of unknown origin roaming searching for prey. Yes, I am stumped, maybe thinking too much. Any help will be greatly apprecitated.

RE: Item - worn ring - Ring of Construct
# Sep 25 2002 at 6:02 PM Rating: Excellent
I want to set this one straight (after wandering thru various parts of KC in vain). The loc given of neg150, neg300, pos3 is accurate. It is NOT the hands room, it is not RCY, it is in the basement. If you jump down the well, and follow the those halls south and west, it is near the end of the dead end hall. You go up some stairs, and if you look behind you there will be a ground spawn on a platform above the stairs.

Good luck in completing yout quests.

It should look something like this:
Awful creations with no known origin. Roaming the castle in search of prey. Lost from its finger a worn metal ring. Taken from the fortress to the court of pain to the one who would have you do her tasks.

If so, it is the Ring of Construct in Karnors, in the Hands room to be exact, it is a ground spawn (n150, n300 or so).

Turn it into Master Niska

Good luck

Is it possible to do the quest without turning in the shackle of steel? I have it currently on my monk, and if you just have to turn in the item and not the book, would be nice.

Well I intend to do this quest soon. Personally I hate to part with my steel shackle. So I intend to turn it in and then immediately after kill the tomekeeper and see if I can get it back. Will post here if he eats it or if it is on his corpse.

Question for anyone that can help.... Im a human monk and would love to get this quest done. But to even start it you have to have the first shackle...how is a human monk to get it since iksar monks get the page to turn in to start?
RE: Human monks and quest

I just did the penance quest today and the hammer has been changed so humans can use it, all you have to do is get faction high enuff to get into cabilis, speak to master riska for the first book, give first book to toilmaster for another book, ask him for hammer and bag, head to west cabilis speak to mortician to get mortar and pestle then head out to fob, find a green mob with lotsa hitpoints and bash em with the hammer till you get 54 procs heheh

8 bone fragments(combined in mortar and pestle = 1 bone shard

7 bone shards and flask of bloodwater = complete purification rite bag

hand bag and book you got from toilmaster back to master riska and voila

i brand spankin new bracer of dust

feel sorry for you humans lol, if you eventually want to end up with a tyn and steel bracer you gotta do this 4 times lol, as an iskar i only gotta do it 3 o :-)

hope this helps

You can either do the penance quest (long and boring) or get a friend to make an iksar monk mule to turn in the newb note, get the shackle of dust, and MQ it when you do shackle of stone.

I mean, does it only work with the dust shackle or can you MQ one of the higher ones for a human friend ?

The Quest
# Feb 16 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Excellent
Solved this morning by all the good monks of monkly-business.com

The following is Spoiler Information.

You must have completed the Shackle of Steel to do this quest.

Veltar is a lvl 60 iksar mob on Swiftail faction that spawns near the FV zone in the ruins east of KC in DL.

You say, 'Hail, Veltar'

Veltar 's body has scars all about it, looking as though beaten with whips. One wrist bares a unique looking bracer, the other is bare. 'Leave me be! I did not come up here because I wanted company.' '

You say, 'Tell me about the whistling fists!'

You say, 'What about the tynnonium shackle?'

Veltar says 'So it is the one that has freed me before! You seek the ways of Tynn I see. You must be on the true path of the monk to accomplish what is needed. The path will test the three virtues most important to becoming a true vessel for Cazic Thule's power. '

You say, 'What are the three virtues?'

Veltar says 'The three virtues are [patience], [agility], and [peace of mind]. Patience is important in kno
wing in when to strike your opponent, too soon and you may crushed, too late and your opportunity may pass. Agility is very important in showing your ability to avoid blows sent your way, and then returning what was sent to you. Without striking quickly you are no monk at all. Peace of mind will allow you to concentrate on the situation you are in. With it you can control your actions and make decisive strikes at critical times. Without peace of mind you may attack out of rage and will surely fall for your mind is clouded. You must complete these three [trials] to earn the shackle of the Grandmaster. '

You say, 'What is the trial of agility?'

Veltar says 'To show agility you must be tested by the most swift of us. Grandmaster Glox will provide your test for this. Ask him of the trial of agility. '

You say, 'What is the trial of patience?'

Veltar says 'Patience shall be tested by the one whom has the greatest patience. Seek Master Rinmark, and ask him of this trial. '

You say, 'What is the trial of peace of mind?'

Veltar says 'To show peace of mind you must decipher a tome found in the library of Kaesora. An undead tome keeper will wait for you to come, ask him of the trial of peace of mind. The tome will tell you what you shall seek. Do with the tome the same as you would with the item you seek. Show you have clarity of mind in solving this. '

To complete the Trial of Agility you go to master Glox in E Cab.

You should be 50+ to do this part of quest. Say to Glox, "I am ready for the Trial of Agility"

You will be transported to a room below Cab that is locked from the inside. There you will battle a level 40 version of Glox, which drops the Mark of Agility. He hits in the high 50s but is VERY fast and has a lot of hps, but is soloable by 51+ monks with decent gear.

To complete the Test of Patience, seek out the Iksar Master on the chessboard island in TD. Say, "I am ready for the Test of Patience." He will respond by telling you to strike only at the right moment or you will perish or he will be gone.
Iksar Master will then Despawn and respawn as Grandmaster Rinmark. Do NOT attack him. He will be red to most, he is AT LEAST lvl 60. In about 2 minutes he will despawn and respawn and his new name will be Master Rinmark. Still, DO NOT attack. He was red to me at 53. In a few more minutes he will respawn as just 'Rinmark.' He was blue to me at this point. He was fairly easily killed by me at this point but some monks have had problems with him. He hits for 98 max but is again, very fast with a lot of hps. He drops the Mark of Patience.
To complete the Trial of Peace of Mind, go to the Kaesora library and kill an Iksar Spectre(new mob) until A Tomekeeper Spawns. Say, "I am ready for the Test of Peace of Mind."
He responds with "'You seek peace of mind, and may you have it. First though, your Shackle of Steel. One Shackle for one tome.' '"

Hand in your Steel Shackle. You will receive one of many possible tomes.

The tome I received was "A Pale White Tome"

It read:

"Resting in a dead city never to be used again. It used to carry many things, but now only carries dust. Through the haze of the city you will find, and return to the court of pain to the one who would give you your sparring armor."

I went to City of Mist where I found a ground spawn called "Woven Vine Basket." I turned the tome and the basket to Master Bain in E Cab at the Court of Pain and received a Mark of Peace of Mind.

Please note that this portion of the quest appears to be different for many people who have done it. Some have gotten, "A Solid Black Tome" which leads them to a ground spawn found in DL, which they ended up turning in to NPCs specified in the tome itself. All of the possible tomes however yield the same result, the Mark of Peace of Mind.

When all three marks are in your inventory, return to DL and hand in the marks for your Shackle of Tynnonium.

Whistling Fist quest mob
# Feb 15 2002 at 3:45 AM Rating: Decent
As mentioned, this shackle comes from Veltar. Just like the Robe of the Lost Circle, you can quest for this item, or kill the quest giver for it. Dont know if he still drops it since the emergency patch or if the drop rate was just changed. As for questing for the shackle, you must complete 3 trials. 2 trials solved so far, but third is stumping people.

After getting this shackle, you show it to some other NPCs who provide info on the Whistling Fists, a legendary weapon.

No longer true... just like the Robe of the Lost Circle, you used to be able to just kill for it, but know it must be quested. Just as you can no longer just kill Brother Qwinn for the Robe of the Lost Circle, because he no longer drops it; Veltar no longer drops the shackle, you can only get it by questing for it.

Took me 4 times of killing him before the bracer dropped, so that is why some people are saying he doesnt drop it. We did him with monk, clr, shaman. Pretty much all spells landed on him. I would bet a 60th shaman/monk could take him with slow and torpor. He runs faster than jmans, not faster than straffing jmans. He was kos to me as a human without working on any cabilis faction, and agroed before getting close, even if on the roof. He hit for 207 max, and only attacked twice per round. He kicked for a piddly amount. Yellow to 60. Minus faction hits with Swift Tails and I think Cabilis Legion. Respawn is about a hour. Another nice item off a easy kill. :/

Hi this is Kimaru Okada.

This shackle is dropped by a lvl 60 iksar monk named Veltar. The same monk iksars save at Droga and recieve the shackle of steel.. I am not sure about the quest itself, but yesterday in DL there was a GM event with Spiders and junk like that.. and he was there.. I though it was only a GM even guy but after he was killes someone hovers over the body with lootin mode and wont let anyone loot.. and the body rots.. everyone leaves and most monks are mad.. but then I noticed about 30min later that he was up again.. he conned Yellow to me and I am lvl 59.. so I got a group together to tackle him.. but the highest warrior on the guild was a lvl 51.. even with that we went ahead and tried to kill him... I decided to tank it.. and to my surprice it was easy.. he max hits for 207. Veltar also enrages at low health so just be careful.. Once he was killed I looted and this nice bracer was dropped..

Human Monks can just kill the guy with no problem for the bracer.. now Iksars on the otherhand have to be careful.. You loose major faction hits with cabilis and the monk guild there.. I am KOS to the guild atm after one kill =) but hey for a bracer like that its worth it..

His location is roughly near the FV zoneline.. in the Ruins with the 2 Giant Iksar statues.. he is on top of the building so u need levi to get him down.. Best tactic for him is to have groups ready at the East wall of KC and pull him to that spot so no wondering adds come up..

Well Hope this helps people out with getting this shackle.. this guy was easy so go kill him ASAP before VI decides to beef him up.

Veltar no longer drops this bracer; now you can only get it by questing for it.
my guess

My guesstimate...

Part the Monk shackle quests out of Cabilis (used to be exclusive only to IKS, but HUM have now been added so all monks can enjoy).

It is dropped by Veltar, provided it still drops, people are still skeptical on this info. Veltar is on iksar monk faction so i wouldnt adivise to kill him unless your human.
