dont forget how OLD this item is, back in the day, and i mean 4? years ago now when kunark was released, it was like having jesus on your wrist for shammys but obviously times have changed, its good for mid level shammys that literally just got over the hump so they can click it, but only for a few levels would it be usful

Ever since they nerfed the sit down casting after clicking its not worth it. You could do more useful things in 8 secs, but to stand there and wait for 250dd to hit.
ya see i dont have one of these and i dont think it is nesessary BUT,,, haveing a dd that is manna free could be real nice while soloing no matter how ya look at it ..i have based my equipment on manna regen and health regen for canni and i do extreamlly well no matter what role i play but again i think this item would be sweet as all hell...when i find i am full manna most of the time if i am not healer its good to be able to stay that way like you all said for slowes and back up heal so i feel i gonna have to try to get 1 i would like to be able to at least nuke and stay full manna for when i am really needed....and still be able to shoot hehe fun fun
Glad to see SOE added the gimp frogs to the list of equippable races but STILL left out Ikkys. And no matter how you slice it a SLIGHT advantage in AC doesn't even come close to outweighing the advantages of an unlimited mana free 263 DD, especially through hump lvls of 45 - low 50's.
Either add Ikkys or give them a comparable item to offset the advantages of this item. SOE is always talking about balance well lets see some of it cause I can't think of an Ikky Shaman only item that is comparable to this.

Just to clarify-this is NOT a proc. It is a clickable effect. Procs are effects that go off randomly when a weapon is used in combat. A clickable effect is, well, just that, and effect that goes off when you right click the item. This kind of information tends to get the newer players really confused.
I have a 59 shammy. He just got a JBB and I plan to try it out on the planes mobs. One thing to note. Winter's Roar only does 263 dmg and is low agro on PoP mobs.. Since most peeps are running with level 55+ buffs and KEI or better. Chain casting the JBB is mearly a way for a shammy to assist the tanks to take the mob down faster with no mana loss.
If I need mana, I can canni 4 mana in nothing flat. I use the lower level frost spells like WR since my mana pool remains so high. I think it will make a difference under many circumstances.
With standing meditation on a horse, don't waste that medding downtime, med AND cast this nuke at the same time! Not sure if this works but i can see why its worth so much if you can cast and med at the same time with this and a horse.
It is still clickable, only weapons can have random effects ( procs ). The JBB is 8.0 sec cast 0.0 recast time 263 DD cold based nuke, unlimited charges.

Well, let me just say that this item is absolutely the best shammy treat in the game. I have had mine since lvl 45 and I am 58 now...It has saved me so much time, effort and mana. Like anything else, you just have to know how/when to use it. I would never use it in a raid nor seldom if ever in a group...as I am far more valuable as a buffer, de-buffer/backup healer.(Besides, I need the slot for resist gear) But in those times when I need to solo to get xp...or just feel like being alone, tis is a wonderous thing to have! I just bring up my puppy, let him engage a debuffed mob...then happily blast away! Hardly any down time. Worth the plat? YEP
You do not need to unequip this to get one more slot of resist gear. Losing 14 AC ( more like 20 modified ) and the right click effect isnt worth putting on a BD bracer IMO. You can get to 120+ points in all 5 resists fairly easily without spending more than 2kpp per piece of gear. I just completed my resist gear shopping spree with only 7kpp, and I manage to get as high as 175 FR 150 MR 140 CR 130 PR and DR BEFORE buffing. You will almost never need more resists than that outside of a high end raid, usually 100-120 resists are enuff. With bard songs and group resist buff 120 resist becomes more like 200-250 anyway, so keep your JBB equipped. After you slow a mob you really should be saving mana for the next one, so you can get in some damage on the mob with this mana free.

Came here and see that the max price listed is 29k....still way too much for this thing if you ask me. The only advantages I see are the effect and AC...definatly not worth 50k. 10k seems steep to me as well, but it's alot more reasonable than 50.
I usually see this selling in bazaar for 14-15k now, when I originally played (pre-luclin) I bought it for 24k, but now I'm restarting a shammy, so I can't wait to get high enough to use it again. Ohh how I miss the days of clicking the epic and the bracer.

Posted:Nov 01 2002 at 7:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I believe creating items that some classes cannot do without was a mistake by verant. Abilities, not items, define classes. Actually kunark has a slew of items like this, like the burnt wooden staff (not sure if that is the right name) for mages or the luminescent staff for druids.
Verant did not make any items that a class cannot do without. The mindless lemming-type Shaman who simply does as "everyone else" does is the one who creates this silly perception.
The "essential" nature of the JBB is purely subjective, created and fostered by Shaman without imagination.
Players have created the moronic illusion that every Shaman needs a JBB, not Verant.
The same can be said about every example you have cited, among the corresponding classes.
My lvl 54 Shaman never had a JBB, and shockingly was still able to progress, fight, and contribute to a team. I can cast an Ice nuke about 4x stronger than the JBB. Frankly, I'd rather meditate with the time I would have spent casting with this item (it's not a quick cast).
The Shaman is one of the more complex classes, we have lots of diffent abilities and our role varies depending on who we are grouped with. Sprinkling the MoB with snowflakes when you should be slowing it instead is not wise. Use your imagination, adapt to your circumstances. Try fighting Ice Gaints with a JBB, and you'll suddenly realize you may have negelected learning other strategies.
The JBB is a favorite for lvl 45-50 Shamen who like to solo. I don't like soloing, I think as a Shaman I am MUCH more effective in a group, and I really don't like the idea of lvl 45 Shamen depending on an item that drops in a lvl 55-60 dungeon. Like a lot of dropped items, by the time you can actually get it by hunting, you don't need it anymore.
I am a 58 level shaman with a horse and the JBB so I med and pound on mobs with the bracer at the same time. I have yet to find a group that after slowing the mob and any other chores needed mind my putting an additional 1-2k or more damage on the mob. After most fights I am at or near full mana and have done more than just slow and med. Believe me a horse and the JBB are two of the greatest goodies we can buy.
With a mount horse/dino this item is god item for shammies. I dont use this item when i solo really because nuking breaks root too much. I just through some dots on an let doggy go to work. In groups, this item owns, you can chain nuke from your mount while you mending up from slows ,buffing or heal. PoP mobs usally take 2 mins or so to kill, so i right click about 13-15 times doing around 3945hp of damage without mana cost per each mob. Unless there is a wizzy/mage in your group, you will outdamage everyone else(individually) in your party. But your wizzy/mages got med every other mob , you dont, just keep firing. The is the best item a shammy can make use of, even more so than the shammie epic. And you can use it till 65th lvl.
Can this camp be soloed? 60 shaman, epic, torpor and the needed buff like aego and kei.i dont think it worth buying this item at lvl 60, this camp would be awesome loot if i can solo it and kill the 4 PH and the roamer in the like 27 min of seb respawn.
I get a kick out of the posts on various items why can't i use this or i deserve that. If all race/class combos could use everything we would all be the same or pretty damn close. The variation in this game is what addicts me.
So we lizards have yet another challange to overcome. OK, so you won't get the exact same effect but you can make evoction your primary specialization and get a mana preservation item. Obviously not quite as efficient but this effect is that important, this better than nuthin.
I like playing Iksar shammy, we have some unique abilities and good starting stats. Sure i cried for a few seconds when i couldn't find Iksar in the race list (that erudite shammy sure will like it) but i'll just find another item or technique that will get all those barbs (sam) saying i wish i made an iksar.
Their are Posts going up and down the entire forum about how an iksar cant wear these, but my friend said iksars could still click em from inventory. Is this true? or is he full of sh*t? Can any Iksar Shammys testify to having clicked any JB items?
Sorry for the pricing data thing. I only hit the button once, I SWEAR.
I paid 25k on Morrell Thule for one. My shaman is 47 and it does 263 dmg on Spirocs in TD. Because of the casting time I'm seriously thinking of buying a horse so I can regain mana while casting.
These going around 40K on Antonius Bayle And for 10K on Luclin Server Casting time is 8sec, so you miss a full tick of meditateing, unles you buy a horse that is 10K, you can chain cast with JBB, and your mana is going up just like you sit on your Ass and you avoiid aggro by sitting on the ground. To obtain full benefit buy a horse+JBB
Heck you don't even have to buy the horse.. just do part of the newbie quest in Befallen (get item with one charge of horse). Wish I could afford this, but don't have the time to wait for good camps (by the time I get the camp I would have to log)). Saving my money for An Amulet of Insight.. sigh.. the only item we shammys get with extended duration of buffs at lvl 3 and it drops off the a velious dorf..
I would very much like to sell my soul for this bracer , failing that I have 13k in pp and various items valuing in total about 15k pp . I am on the Antonius Bayle Server . Please contact me by email or in game
Two weeks ago, I obtained a JBB and turned 45. Two weeks later i am now level 50, averaging 1 yellow per hour, without external buffs. The Jbb is the best thing for XP I have seen!
I have been soloing in DL and my tactic now is simply to slow the mobs, let them hit me whilst the pet melees and I cast the JBB over and over- as long as your AC is decent, your defense has been worked on and you have some sort of regen- you always win with the downtime being only that required to cann up the cost of the slow and any other buffs that wear off (make sure youre fully buffed).
It is great if you are in a small group but probably doesnt make much of a difference if you are in a full group as your role will be quite well defined (buffing team and slowing mobs) and if youre casting chain nukes by the JBB, you wont be able to med up for mana. Unless you have a KEI........
But well worth it for rapid XP gain. Probably wont make a big difference later on in groups but you could always sell it at the same price- I dont think the price drops all that much for one.
Just got my JBB last night...believe it or not I was able to trade for mine.. The guy wanted 15k obo and all I had was 1200pp cause Id just got a iksar regen bp. Anyway I told him some of my gear and did the following trade: JBB and a chokidai shoulder ( aC 6 +8 WIS +5 sv m/p/d ) for a granite facegrinder, Iksar regen BP, heavy dragonwing mantle and 1200pp. If you want one of these but dont have 15k, try trading some gear for it. I couldnt believe when his name turned green in the trade box--Ive been looking for one of these forever and until the last month didnt haver the money for it. After being constantly frustrated I bought other stuff and then the ikky bp. Thx Vurm for a great item. Cast time is 8 secs but our level 54 Ice Strike is 7 secs, and JBB has no recast time and is mana free. I will be able to go from barely killing a mature wyvern solo to being able to do the named in SF ( except Eldrig the Old--summoning bastage!!) with fair ease. I gave up some melee ability, AC and HP to get this but gained much offense. Getting to 55+ will be much better now. Like has been said before about JBB...Lie, Steal, Cheat, Buy, or Trade to get one of these.
54 Ogre Battle Mystic on Luclin server--Chaotic Winds--Aggrok
Just wanted to add now Ive seen these soar in price on Luclin server--average is 25kpp, with prices in the Bazaar as higf as 35kpp. Unless you have total crap gear, its still worth it, although Im very glad I got mine when I did when they were 15kpp. Good luck getting one for anywhere close that now. Also, iksar regen BP's are going up in price too, average is getting to be 7500pp, up from the longstanding 6kpp they have always been. May want to get one now if you are thinking about it.
Man, I cant believe Ive only leveled 2 levels in 6 months , but I do have 15 AA now so not a complete loss. Also wanted to mention that with this item I have successfully soloed Eldrig the Old --summons and all--took 5 attempts but I did it--if you want to know how to do it read my post under his name in SF bestiary.
Only good news for up and coming shaman is our level 59-60 spells have finally come down some in price ( not much ), but Ive seen Avatar for 5k, and talked to a guy who got Malo for 38kpp ( Torpor is still 60kpp IF its for sale ). Getting your epic is easier than getting Pox of Bertoxxolous IMHO, as it only drops in Old Sebillis ( well Ancient Wyverns in Skyfire too but I haven't talked with a single shammy who got this spell that way ). Bane of Nife came down too, got mine for 1500pp, and on the off-subject of rare spells ( yes I know this is supposed to be about JBB but all shaman are faced with this eventually ), I got remove curse for just 1k--much easier than camping this guy although he can be soloed easy by a 54+ shaman, read my post under the Great Saprophyte to see how to do it ( no you dont need a JBB--actually using a JBB on him will get you killed ).
For those who dont have the money, fear not--a KEI will allow you to solo nearly as well as having a JBB, especially if you can melee good and use your Kilvas Skin of Flame Potions ( you do alchemy , right? Yeah its pricey but worth it.) I understand if your alchemy is 37 still cause your saving for a JBB, but hurry prices are going up nearly everday.
Ok, another long post that got off topic, but thats typical of me and after 100+ posts you all are used to it by now. Take care and have fun.

Iksars not being able to wear this now is just lame, They can use velious plate so why not give em all the plate they want...VI has no excuse to not let iksar wear this if they let us use luclin/velious plates EDIT: Yes take those away from us...and in turn maybe give us armor similar to this with the same effects with less ac due to our ac bonus and ill be happy =) make them quested if you want to because as in iksar shammy i would go to hell and back to get an item with this effect
I'm not sure of the armoring rules for lizards, but I'm sure they have their reason's. Who knows, maybe it was an oversight and it'll be patched. BTW: If something had true power, why would it be hiding in the shadow's?
Why is it that all those races are listed when it's a shaman only item? Let's see, since iskars can't wear plate, I believe that cuts down the useable races to Vah Shir, Barbarian, Troll, and Ogre. Why bother listing the rest?
My 2 cp.

I believe the EQ items use armor type flags that then determine who can wear it.
The races listed are all "plate" type races. They can wear plate. Now in the class listing the only added shaman. To specificly add or remove races from the list they would have to go in and actually add or remove them. Its easier just to use the class and armor type, since we wont need to worry about a Erudite Shaman abusing the bracers..
Hope this makes some sense. -Stuff

Finally getting into the range of affording the JBB.. I just happened to be hunting in DL the other day & heard a rumor that they are going to nerf the JBB into casting Zing instead of Roar...
Has anyone else heard of this? I am hoping it was just that..rumors.. but it was OOCs between shamen...so far not too many other people have heard of this...
Since obtaining a JBB at lvl 53 my life as a shaman has completely changed. In groups against tougher mobs I can generally get in about 12-13 nukes (that's in the neighborhood of 3000dmg) and against most 6-7 nukes, this really helps to increase the experience for your group overall. Soloing I now simply buff myself bring out a pet(also buffed), slow the mob, cripple the mob, and nuke like crazy, and with the damage output of the jbb and the damage of your pet vs. a crippled mob I can tank mobs in skyfire, such as mature wurms, rarely requiring a heal, and only using a minimal amount of mana.
Yes, iksar can't use this item - but with the AC bonus iksars obtain a large amount of AC over non iksars at high levels.. if they could use this item holy $%@#. I guess verant's reasoning is that it would make them overpowering.
Iksar with some extra AC? Compared to the damage this item does, 3000 you said in 12 or 13 casts? Hm, doubt the Iksar are "overpowering" any of the other Shammy races in AC or dishing out nukes. Just my opinion though =)
While using this by right clicking it, your evocation skills do not increase. It never fizzles, however it can be interuppted. Works best on mobs that are least cold resistant. Does huge amounts of damage while chain casting it over a short amount of time.
WTF?!!! Iksar can't use but they are Shaman only, that's nuts. Next time you see a Gnomish Shaman on ask him if he will petition a GM to let Iksar use these too. I saved up a ton of cash and bought one of these only to see that I couldn't equip it. I was so ticked, I still am. makes no sense to me. Iksar be warned, these are a waste of time and cash. Not cool at all.

(if yer an iksar) also..trolls and iksars get regen, but there's an exp penalty..and the hybrids get an exp penalty, so if you really wanna work hard for your exp, make an iksar/troll shadow knight, worst exp in the game, but i got to 11 easily with my iksar sk, jus hunted in FoB, then went to kurns til 9, and went to orc camps in EC...why i am i saying this, i dont know, i mus be bored out of my mind even though i have no life, barsh leeve me lone!!!

These are plate armor, and Iksar are unable to wear plate. Its not just Shamen who can't use their Kunark drops. Iksar Warriors cannot use Cobalt, and Shadow Knights cannot use Blood Ember. Sucks, but that's one of the racial disadvantages you sign up for along with Regen, nice stats, and an AC boost. :\
SKs can most definitely use Blood Ember. Some Blood Ember Gauntlets dropped in KC the other night and they are SK only. I don't know if this is a change Verant has made or just if your information was valid at the time of your post but we had a Troll SK in our group and since he was the only SK in our group we gladly gave him the Blood Ember Gauntlets. I am pleased that most people I meet on Norrath believe in the tenet need before greed, as I do. No one objected, although everyone in the group spoke their minds concerning whether to roll on the gauntlets or give to the SK. Since he was wearing gaunltets inferior to the Blood Ember we cheerfully gave them to him and congratulated him on his new toy. You never know when something is gonna drop while you're in group and the item is specifically for your class and the item is an upgrade to what you already posses. Like the Jaundice Bone Gauntlets dropping in KC while I was the only Shaman in the group. One person objected to NBG while the other five agreed with it. He disbanded in a huff, and wouldn't you know it, less than half an hour later an item dropped that was for his class only, which we would have cheerfully given to him. His greed and selfishness cost him a very nice item. But regarding the post, Shadow Knights can most certainly wear Blood Ember gear. Especially when the gauntlets stated Shadow Knights only. It pays to be nice and play nice. A lot of people may not remember you for a job well done while in a group but almost everyone will remember you for your greed and selfishness. Just something to keep in mind. :o)
I think you may have misread the post a bit. That, and it could be construed as being a bit vague. It says that "Iksar warriors cannot use cobalt, and shadow knights cannot use blood ember". The poster is speaking to the armors usable by Iksars, both warriors and SKs.
In your self efficating hurry to make your self feel good for being smart you failed to pay attention to details (omg pun). IKSAR SK can NOT use ember, kk?
As Syyklops said, the post was a little vague as to who or what couldn't use the JBBs. Of course Iksars CAN'T use them. They're plate.
But your attempt to be rude, for which you seem to have a knack, was uncalled for in any instance.
You say I was trying to be self efficating??? Self efficating??? You're saying I was attempting to be self efficient? Where? I think you'd better go ask your mommy or daddy what the word really means before you make even more a fool of yourself. Self efficating. Lmao.
Some people just can't help but be rude for the sake of being rude.

Hmmmm hammer isn't right click, you would be better off as a shaman with an icewurm fang and sbs, and the hammer is barb only. I don't think I see anyone trading a jbb for a spiritist hammer...
I would just like to say that its kinda funny how the effect on a shaman bracer is ten times better than the effect on the wizards velious quest robe. They robe casts enticement of flame a dd around 375dmg and has a cast time of 25-30secs, pretty damn lame if you ask me.
JBB, has saved my shammy a few times, especially in Burning woods in search for spells. OOM and had 3 mobs to deal with, one with Ebolt and Plague in it, the other just rooted. I managed all 3 but alot of running out of range after root and a CB once in a while to ensure mana for root. I will never part with it, its comes in too handy to have when your are low on mana or oom. My experience, its saves me many times and no long journeys back to loot my corpse, or search for a exp rez. If you manage to get one, hang on to it as its will be a nice back up someday for you.
I bought mine in NFP, I know you wont believe this but 2 k is all it cost me. I really thought the guy was off his rocker, but he told me 3 days he advertise to sell it and everyone thought for the price he was selling vambracers. Lucky me, I was in DL when he was selling and managed a gate to WC and took off running and still manage to grab it. Lucky and loving it ...

this item is by far the best shaman item in the game or very near the best, I got one of the first on bertox server and have been offered over 50k twice and turned it down.Yeah that was sometime ago but you get my point. I use it so much I wouldn't know what to do without it. if you get one of these and if your a shaman DO NOT GIVE IT UP, you will have no idea how much easier life becomes. Velendil 58th lvl barb shaman.
This is without a doubt the best item I have ever gotten in EQ so far.
-It has a casting time of approx. 8 sec. -Cold based damage spell (winter's roar) =263 dmg
Here's why this item ROCKS. 1) I pull with Malise (60 mana)[cheap] to lower Cold resist. 2) Run to safe spot, and root[30mana] I use root because it is 1/2 the mana of enstill, and when using DD's, enstill breaks after 1-3 nukes. Root seems to last thru more nukes, and is cheaper/ faster to cast. 3) I use blind [12mana] so that when root breaks, I can re-root without it hitting me, as the mob runs in a random direction for a time. 4)When its all said and done, I've killed a mob and have FM or at least 95% left. It's not a big nuke, but if used repeatedly, it is VERY effective at killing mobs. Takes just about as long as our dot at 49, assuming no resists.
My solo ability just quadrupled. Most shaman won't give one up, or if they will....they want an arm and a leg for it.
Just got one of these, very lucky, only took 4 months of camping to finally win the roll on it. So to the people who have one these, is it a better soloing with it or grouping or partnering with someone like a druid. Haven't had time to try it out extensively. And what method do you guys use, root, enstill, turgurs, pet, etc?? Appreciate any info on this matter.
I really don't understand why the Jaundiced Bone Bracers go for 13-14k on most sites that give estimated values. Heck, if I could get one for 13k, i'd buy 10. Lets face is, the only people that have these are Shamans, and they won't give them up for the world. If your REALLY lucky, you might catch one auctioned every 3 weeks or so in East Commons, or Gfay. You send them a tell and they want the world for it. After 3 and a half months of trying to get one, I finally caught a guy and started filabustering him with offers (distracting him from other offers). I ended up giving him an entire monk twink package for it (2 Master Wu's Trance Sticks, 2 Knuckle Dusters, Robe of Living Fungus and a FBSS). I'd say thats close to 30k worth of cheeze... but ye know what... it's worth every penny.
Now i'll tell you why it's worth it. You can kill any green without spending anything more than 'Root' mana (Giants/Drovlogs...). In a group (namely Karnors), you can save all your mana for Buffs (and be a good little shaman), Regrowth yourself, and throw in 2 Canibalizes in between nukes. Think about it... every 10 seconds, you contribute 256 damage while buffing... Fights last what? 25-30 seconds? well you chucked out almost a 1k in damage and still have mana to keep your sharks teeth sharp.
There is only ONE draw back to the item. Once you start casting it, you can't stop the casting time (a full 8 seconds), this can keep you from getting that CRITICLE heal out to your enchanter once he gets jumped... and this might make your group angry with you... so shamans BE CAREFUL... when you first got your pet, you became a liability to the group, now that can afford to do your job and do caster damage it's the same thing, you gotta learn to adjust.
With the new Duck code in game, you can interrupt the casting of the armor pieces with a simple duck without having to wait out the casting time. Just FYI. ;)

One of the helms dropped and I won the roll on it (again, no Shaman were in the fight). That's how a warrior ended up with the Shaman only helm. I could see the same thing happenind with this bracer.
Actually to cast the normal spell "Winter's Roar" the cast time is 4 seconds. To cast the spell on the bracer however the cast time is doubled to 8 seconds. There is no recast time on it. It is a cold based 263 point cold based DD though. I can take down hill giant with about 11 nukes from my bracer and only using enough mana to keep it rooted (half a bub of mana). =P
Winter's Roar is a cold-based direct damage spell that hits for 263 points when unresisted. The spell casting time is 4 seconds; I believe the recast time for the bracer is double that, or 8 seconds.
I don't have one yet, but I'm watching the markets pretty hard in the hopes that one becomes available. PLUG: If you have a one to trade away on Drinal, look me up. : )
