Piece of trash
# Aug 02 2007 at 10:47 AM Rating: Decent
what kind of crap is this? i'm on Zek and by the time my warrior or berzerker get to use this thing they'll be killed by every other class and race that has a fungi equipped since lvl 2. honestly this is an idiotic item that should be scrapped and they should make the fungi usable by all races and melee classes
Required only applies to the Patch Vest
# Aug 08 2005 at 6:01 PM Rating: Default
Leave it to Beaver .. again. While leaving the Fungus Covered Scale Tunic alone, SOE nerf's the Patch Vest. Due to feedback about people not understanding "Required" v/s "Recommended" ? no way im buying that excuse. /sigh... Hello Beav.. i see you been thinking again.

Real info?
# Dec 30 2003 at 8:11 PM Rating: Default
Ok people keep talking about how great it is and how it's so cool, but does anyone have any real info on the actual quest and what mob drops it? Perhaps the drop rate? If it is doable with a 65 BST/Cleric that are very well equipped? If it can drop off any random named mob? Locs of the camps, perhaps maps or anything like that? The quest on allakhazam is kinda vague in how it all works...so any info on what kind of fire power is actually needed post LDON would be helpful.

Yes, All of the info you asked for is found here, in this forum, every last piece of it is included in a few great walkthroughs. Hope this does the trick! http://www.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1570

The Caller Groo, Murkin and one other will summon "biesties" for you when you give them some "blargrot". Blargrot can be bought in 3 different versions (~40pp, ~90pp and ~130pp) from the named Tamok, Trader Snugrut, loc neg 190, neg 640, in the first hut on the right when you enter the caves (not the outpost). The more expensive blargrots summon higher level monsters.

The cost of the blargrot is a bit lower with good cha - about 37, 68 and 98 I believe - they are bought from the vendor in a hut in the Tarmok area nearest the outpost.

The Callers, Groo (pos 450, neg 583), Murkin(pos 498, neg 482) and Torgal (pos 494, neg 452) are in the next Tarmok Village, near a big cave opening leading down to an open area with 3 ramped caves going to the East, the North and the West off of it. The caves go in a bit and slope down before they end.

When you give one of the callers a container of Blagrot, you get a contract back and he then tells you to gather up your group of hunters, and a minute later he heads down the big tunnel towards the smaller ones. If you inspect the contract, it will tell you which tunnel he is going to.

He will path down to the tunnel listed, go inside a bit and after a pause "call" out an emote, which summons 3 fungus critters. These will spawn either just outside the tunnel in the open area, or down at the back of the tunnel, or at both locations - but the total is 3 mobs. (Note: sometimes I have seen a 2 pop, but never a 4).

The size of the container - small bottle, jug or keg - does NOT affect the levels of mobs spawned - it simply adjusts the timing of the spawns, with the bigger containers having less time between spawn "calls".

small bottle = 3 minutes between calls
jug = 2.5 minutes between calls
keg = 2 minutes between calls

The caller will spawn mobs 5 times in a row, and then call for a 5 minute "break". This starts immediately after the last call, not when he emotes it. Med up and rebuff during this time. Occasionally a call gets "skipped" for some reason, usually right when starting the quest. No clue why this happens.

The types of mobs that are spawned are:

Fungusfiends: small mobs, hit VERY fast, but not too hard (100ish) - low hp

Fungusbeasts: big mobs, hit hard and fast - decent amount of hp

Fungus Priest: shaman mob, dispells, heals - Tot works on these

Fungus Healer: cleric mob - DOES CHEAL - Tot works on these

Named Mob:
Named mobs are pretty rare, but they are the ones that drop the cool stuff. Each named mob is pretty tough, lots of hp, hit hard and fast, and most seem to be casters as well.

All mobs proc a lure-based snare - nasty - that can be resisted, but usually isn't. DR seems to help with resists, but most people end up having it stick to them. Note: this proc dispells CHA buffs (lure)

Mobs spawn at the bottom sides or back of the tunnel and outside the tunnel on either side out a bit. All of them path towards the caller.

How to END the Quest - Three Ways

1. During a break time, or at any time when none of the fungus mobs are in aggro range of the caller, hand him the note.

2. Let the caller die - the mobs are aggro on the caller, and will attack and kill him if they are not intercepted. Note, in a pinch, you can ROOT the mobs by the caller to cause this :)

3. Get wiped out. This is kinda like #2, as the fungus mobs will kill the caller. After all aggro is gone, they depop in about 5 mins or so. Easy CR. You CAN train them up to the Tarmoks in the camp, who will kill them. Hard to do when snared, tho.

It is required 51
# Nov 03 2003 at 7:15 PM Rating: Decent
The reason so many items were changed from recommended to required is because people aren't intelligent enough to know the difference between the meanings of the 2 words. I guess SOE was tired of getting feedback from morons who don't have the slightest clue on what a Dictionary is. Just my 2 cents worth..........
feedback from someone who knows what they're talking about
# Oct 20 2003 at 1:32 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, whats the scoop. You own this item? Well, if you could be so kind as to put it in your shared slow and try to put it on that level 20 Vah Shir Beastlord. It says reccomended level, not required level. Huge difference. I can' twink my alts with my valorium rings, but I can with my tunic and wand.....alts are level 20 btw. My tunic is reccomended 50, and my wand reccomended 56. All my casters can wear them, but only with decreased stats. Anyway care to comment to fix this question?

Uber shaman Canni
# Mar 21 2003 at 7:45 AM Rating: Decent
if this and Regrowth and any of the items with "Aura of" effect have stackable regen i would be able to stop canni dancing and just stand there and canni up. If i had this andd regrowth up and inate regen AA on i would already be regening as much HP as i'm taking off from cannibalizing no? Much as i hate to wince up this would make for a very simple macro.

True you COULD can without the dance, but...

When we sit for that tenth of a second at the beginning and at the end of each candance session, that is when we get the mana increase from the sitting position, which is MUCH more than the cani increase is. So while it is true that you can Cani without sitting, you will not gain FM near as fast. Once in a while my system is lagging and my shaman does not sit as fast as she should during her Candance, and the amount of time it takes for her to regen to FM seriously sux, in these instances I simply sit her down (when I can) and let her med up normally.

RE: Worth the same as a Fungi

No, a level 2 beastlord can't use this. you must be level 51+ to equip it.
RE: Worth the same as a Fungi
# Mar 31 2003 at 8:56 PM Rating: Default
Actually, it's not a required level, so the 2 BL could equip it. However, the stats would be junk, and the effect may or may not work.

Great Item

It's funny reading some these posts about the Fungus patch vest. I still don't understand why people insist on making fools of themselves.

Wouldn't pay 2k for this? It's no good becasue of a few Neg stats?? Please.

I am lucky enough to own one of these fine tunic's and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

There is one reason the Fungus patch vest is uber for beastlords. Regen stacks.

As a Troll or Iksar you're looking at 40+ hit points per tick depending on your level when you stack the vest with natural regen and Chloro.

As an Iksar beastlord myself this thing is godly for soloing. I have ZERO down time and it's a lifesaver in close fights. If I start taking some serious damage all I have to do is step back for a little while and let my pet tank.

I honestly can't count how many times this vest has saved my life in close fights. For that reason alone it priceless to me.

Now, as for neg stats, they mean nothing.

Why do you think people pay 10k for hammered golden hoops and Chokadi Hide Spaulders even though both have some neg stats like AC and Str? They pay that much becasue in the end game hit points are king.

Stats may look pretty but they are buffed way to easily.

The fact that this the only tradeable beastlord regen tunic in the game makes it very valuable. Factor in it it's rarity and it's worth even more.

Peace

RE: Great Item
# Sep 23 2003 at 4:24 PM Rating: Decent
I do not have the ability to use this item, however, it's non-required level counterpart (not usable by Vah Shir, lord only knows why) the fungus covered scale tunic is identical in stats.

The effect more than balances out the lost stats. Especially at low levels (which this item is no longer useable for) It is easy enough to find 10+ points of Agility and Dexterity. Find an enchanter who can work with platinum or better, and you're set. Many dropped items also address this limitation for you. Pick up 1-2 items and you have a net GAIN of agility/dexterity.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 06 2003 at 8:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The people that wouldnt pay 2k for it Don't understand it's potential. However the low low ac combined with the negative stats do mean Something. This could be a great downtime Item for any of the classes there. I think one of the best potetials is through the shamman, however, who woudlnt care about the negative stats and could fix those problems with buffs anyways, and who could use the extra regen for Canny. I wouldnt use this in normal battle situations, the AC is too low and the negative stats will effect your hits and dodges somewhat. They arent that bad its just that there are such better things out there that you could use that would make it where you wouldnt need the regen, you would be loosing more hp via the crappy stats then you would be gaining.

RE: Great Item
# Mar 11 2003 at 4:04 PM Rating: Decent
This particular item is going to be best for a Beastlord (or by small chance vah shir for the rest of the classes) no matter what...

Why? Simple reason is that every other class and race listed there other than BST and Vah Shir can use the real fungi tunic. It doesn't take lvl 51 to equip and costs about half to buy.

As for the negative stats and low ac? For a beastlord 21 AC is average or above. -10 agi/dex is no big deal, can fix that with one item.

If I found this for 50k I'd be estatic beyond belief.
regen tunic
# Jan 28 2003 at 7:34 AM Rating: Decent
well lets see....for one warr and such would prolly only wear after soloing or in down if cler OOM..after that would prollty put regualr BP back on..2nd this regen tunic CAN be worn by large classes is why is so valuable...even fungi tunic isnt worn at all times and it has neg stats on it also...mostly monks/warr/rog would wear aftera solo fight to regen put on another BP and solo again

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 19 2003 at 5:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yeah, a measly 15hps a tick, heck, why do people even bother to use regen? yeah, 21ac on a leather class is ridiculous as well. i'm sure we'll start seeing the seb dropped version of this for sale on a common merchant pretty regular.
RE: Whats all the hubbub about?
# Dec 18 2002 at 8:23 AM Rating: Decent
How much does it do for a level 51?
Well, in combat you may be right. You'll take a lot of damage with lowered AC and Agility compared to other armors, but, at level 51 you regen only 5HP/tick (as a human, sitting down) swap the tunic for your regular armor during down time and you're up to 20 HP/tick (200HP / minute)

That can make a lot of difference if things went badly and your healers are low/out of mana or are busily healing other seriously injured group members.
RE: Whats all the hubbub about?
# Dec 11 2002 at 4:13 PM Rating: Excellent
HP regen rocks for Shaman. Add the regen from this and the 15 point from regrowth and the cost of canni3 can be made back in two ticks. Bards do not get heal, they have a regen song. They don't tank much, but take the occasional hit, so this would be nice for them as well.

on 7th I have seen this for sale two times for 200k give or take. Now that will freak some of you out, but Fungi tunics sell for 110k give or take on our server. Most of that is a product of the disgustig prices on 7th :) so for the purposes of this post, lets just assume that this is being valued at roughly twice as price of a fungi tunic from seb.

The reason this one is prices higher is simply supply vs Demand, and the demand comes from beastlords. Not alot of people do the caller quests, so there is not alot of these. The only reason to pay for this one over a Fungi is the Beastlord tag. 17 per tick does not make you the same solo machine it does at level 20 but with Bestlords it is easy to get XP solo, the real struggle when soloing is with downtime managment. With this, you can tank a little more for your pet and regen your health while you med. Beastlord too high yet, but seeing as wher they get a 10 mana per tick at level 55 that seems to be welcomed by them. I can only assume they would enjoy stacking another 17 on top of that so they could spend regen lost health while they med instead of meding/healing/medding some more. Add in thier mana/health regen spell that stacks with both of these pluss any racial regen and you end up getting your HP back at a reasonable rate.

Honestly, for every other class on here a fungi would just be cheper, and better since you could use it early. I personaly would value this less then a fungi because it is much more resrictive. Obviously the only reason this is higher is because of the beastlord tag.

As an alternative for this, the Fungal staff from the King in Seb is BST usable and can be right clicked to give Fungal Regrowth at a lower level (i think). It has a snare component so if you get jumped while medding you could be in trouble but it would serve the same down time managment role as the tunic.

The staff works well in FG, right click and stand there, single pulling the shrooms. Find a zone like that its ok. Also, fungal regrowth (worn) stacks with regen from spells, fungal regrowth (right-clicky) overwrites sow and any spell regen.

Seeing as Fungi Tunic has more races and classes that can use the item, i dont see why this is popular. Infact, i have seen a few people on E'ci offering to trade their Fungi Tunic for this item.
Frankly, in my mind rarity doesn't matter at all. Hell, i have a pair of gauntlets that is one of the three on my server, but they are 8ac, 3str, 4dex so they basicaly suck and are worthless. Hence this isn't better than it's Tunic couterpart, so i dont see the point in trading an item that can be used by more classes and races for something with the same stats but have the races and classes narrowed down.
I see that many people want this for their specific races, but i still don't see the point in this over Fungi for say an iksar shammy or something.

The reason people are willing to trade their fungi tunics for this, or do the quest, is because this is the equivilant of the fungi for Vah Shir, why they made it so us kitties can't wear the fungi. i don't think i will ever know. i guess that doesn't really matter. i am glad they made another fungi tunic, because from what i read it looks 10x easier to get than the OS version.

My guild has been doing this a bunch the past three nights, and we got one to drop. Went to a barb shaman. I traded him my normal fungi (I'm a 60 cleric) for it, so I could put it on my VAH BST (level 53).

He liked the chain look more, and my BST got the BP he's always wanted. :) I think I got the better end of the deal. While not cheap, there are tons of normal fungis out there... I have never seen a fungus patch vest up for sale or trade.

So while the normal fungi is a better item, due to the wider selection of classes and races that can use it, the fungus patch vest is probably worth more plat, due to the extreme rarity of it.

When you start getting higher level equipment you're stats will be high enough that 10 points doesn't matter. However 15 points per tick regen that stacks with regrowth (etc) is a big big difference.

Most people that own the fungi tunic and this one keep it in their bags while fighting, then equip it during the downtime for the regen...stats really aren't going to matter that way :)

Just wanted to clear up a few questions about this BP. I have one , it says reccomended lvl of 51 but this does not limit the level you can use this BP. It only limits the AC you recieve at you specific lvl. If your under 51 the ACn you get for your lvl appears in RED next to the normal AC.
The look is alot better the the average Fungi as well, im a Iksar Shammy and it looks like Black Plate on me, quite nice with full Velious Quest armor. The Value of this BP is probably gona be quite higher then a regular Fungi to those who want one for a Bst or Vah Shir, considering Vah shir Bard can even use, and the fact that many posts ive seen here have underestemated how hard the quest actualy is. To get the named to spawn that drops this on average takes 10-16hours of non stop fighting, its no easy task. And for those of you who are curious this BP is FULLY tradeable. It was no drop when it first showed but is now just lore. So far i have the only one ive seen on my server !

Recommended = not NECESSARY to be that lvl, just don't benefit fully from it. (it lists in red the stats for pre-recommended lvl)

Required = NECESSARY. You must be that lvl to even have it in your inventory.

Myself I have never seen this item, but I do plan on doing the quest soon. Even if I don't get the vest, the quest itself will be a blast I'm sure.

I have a lvl40 kitty BST and I cannot equip this....it gives me that message, you are not the right class yada, yada, yada......so I think that you do indeed have to be lvl 51 or much closer....The only other thing is that it is based on your religion in which case BST are screwed since I think you can only be agnostic....anyone have anything new about this....

1. Its not based on religion.
2. It would tell you "You are not of sufficient level to equip this item"
3. You probably have a Fungus Covered Scaled Tunic, not a Fungus Patch Vest.
Obviousness for DirtyBax

Tiako drops it, not the guy who submitted it, which would appear to be Rosalinde

Club of Ice Ocean is now recommended lvl 51 too, I bought one just for my war 44 and she can't even equip it :(.

So my question now :p, this tunic is lvl restricted too, will I be able to use it on my war for the regen or, like the club, no way to equip it till she hit 51 ?

I don't care for the statts on the tunic, she have a better BP, but just the regen effect between solo fight ;).

right...so you can twink cats...ya i suppose you are right...if you cat twink is over level 51 that is, recommended level 51 means they can't equip it til they hit that level

why?

Iksars are not a large race. Only for Races that can be Beastlords.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 15 2002 at 10:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes, but Iksar are a medium/large race. Your theory is flawed. The reason this is not MNK usable is because they were TRYING not to make it a duplicate item.

Aha, I just noticed that the listed usable classes are the only classes playable by Vah Shir.

It all makes a tad more sense now. Why didn't they just call it the "Hairball Patch Vest" instead. It was obviously designed for the kitties.

There are many items out with this exact same race/class restriction now. This way they give cats something to use, and insure at the same time BST's have a range of available items being a new class. If you look at the combos listed, its Vah Shir/ALL, as well as ALL/BST at the same time. (just combined)

Probably no Monks or SKs on it because Regrowth is a pretty powerful thing in the hands of a FD puller. With the Fungi tunic monks can FD on tough pulls, regen enough to take a few more smacks, and then stand and pull the rest of the distance. The negative Dex and Agi stats are no big deal with a few buffs anyway.

Most of the classes that can use this thing will be able to find better use from a high AC item at the level to attain. This thing is REALLY nice for Shaman who can turn HP into Mana with Cannibalize. It may be good for BeastLords too, but I would tend to think a Treeweave or a PSC might be more useful.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 12 2002 at 1:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why would you want to use this anyway? -10 to both DEX and AGI? IMHO the -10 Agi really make the Ac of 21 less than that. Oh and just because its a new Fungi Item dosent mean it has to be MONK compatible.

Ummm maybe they would want to use it because it had the same exact stats as a fungi tunic except for who can wear it ..... and see how many monks run around wearing a fungi covered scale tunic? seems reason enough for me.
