If you summon the rat, from time to time he will attack random people near you. The attack doesn't do anything, it's basically just an emote.

The script is:

"Soandso's familiar leaps forward and bites X"

X being any mob or PC near you.

I've traveled with him a bit and he seems to be terrified of cats and hate other rats. He will attack cats & rats much more frequently.

He also has a different script for cats:
"Soandso's familiar leaps foward in terror and scratches a puma"
