I dont care if it's a gold plated pile of excement from the fabled golden goose, Nothing should take this long to drop.

Just know that if you desire this weapon, You will sell your soul to an eternal prison of staring at a moniter and developing DVT from being stationary for so long that rigor mortis sets in. Long after those trivial states of being, if you are disciplined enough, you migh see this after another couple of days.

2 weeks of 12 hour days checking my computer every 26 minutes and still going. Whomever thought the drop rate for this item was reasonable should have his balls ripped off and stitched to his forehead.
My experience camping Anklesmasher
# Oct 18 2011 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
I thought I’d add my comments to this thread. I decided to try to acquire Anklesmasher for my lvl 57 warrior on Povar. After reading the thread here, I decided to make a study of it. Here was my experience. I parked my lvl 85 rogue there for three days, and logged onto him every 26 minutes. I saw a total of 47 spawns. The place holder spawned 21 times (once he spawned four times in a row). The Loremaster spawned 20 times (once 6 times in a row), and the Grand Lorekeeper spawned 6 times (once back to back). During this time Anklesmasher dropped 4 times from the Loremaster. This yields an overall drop rate of 8.5% per spawn, and 20% per Loremaster spawn. These occurred on spawn numbers 5, 18, 32, & 47. The longest interval between drops was around 4 ½ hours. In addition to Anklesmasher the silver rapier dropped 4 times, the boots dropped once, the breastplate dropped 5 times. Sometimes only the books dropped, but there was always at least one of the books each time the Loremaster spawned. There may have been a few other things that I didn’t keep track of.
Usually when I popped in 3 additional mobs attacked, but occasionally it was much more. One time I had to fight off 16 mobs in addition to the Loremaster. I don’t know how to account for this. I was always standing NW of the mob, to stay furthest from the door. Some of the adds came from upstairs, and a few times I ended up with mobs from the queens chambers as well.
I hope this helps others who are considering camping this weapon or the Pally quest. I found one person selling Anklesmasher in the bazaar, but they wanted 104k plus change. Way over priced! I’ve now got 4 of these lore pieces placed on 4 toons. I may try to sell one of them, but wouldn’t think of charging more than 50k for it. Even that is over priced in my opinion, but it might be worth it for a Pally. My lvl 63 Pally hasn’t tried his yet. But my warrior loves his.
I just wanted to share my experience.

I've been farming the Anklesmasher for my chars....my rogue, warrior, monk; and guildies. It's not the most common drop in the game, but it does drop. You have to be persistent, and maybe every 20-40 spawns, it drops. He does have the obvious HUGE hammer in his hand when it drops. Pretty exciting to see.

It is GREAT experience for my lvl 50 chars down there. Do NOT use an AE nuke, as it pulls them all up from down below in the royal room..and that can be a real problem. I didn't get it, until I realized that the whole zone seemed to crash the party...because I kept using my cleric's AE nuke. Bad idea. I died.

Great camp. Good exp. Need a pick lock char to get you in...but it's loads of fun. Go with empty backpacks, cause spells and all sorts of vendor trash drop.
It don't come easy....

At least it sure didn't for me. I have been camping Loremaster Piza'Tak for two weeks. I probably took the room 100 times in all. FINALLY, the hammer showed up, and it's mine. I want a second one for my rogue, however...so looks like two more weeks of camping that basement.

Is good experience for my 56 bard and 62 rogue. They have their healer mercs, and I two box with my 69 cleric and her ogre tank. We have managed to fall down the trap door, right next to or close behind the second locked door (near the Loremaster). Be careful of that one. I probably died six times down there...falling down the hole and panicking instead of just taking on the mobs. DON'T run around. Best to stay there and drop all your toons down the hole. It's not that bad...at least compared to the main room above. You only agro the King and his entourage. The Queen is in the next room.

I don't think this hammer is worth any 75-120K, but it is a seriously nice snare item, and probably worth 25-35K to me. It's mine, until I get something better.

I envy you posters who happened to walk in on the hammer. I didn't work it 24/7, and other people passed through that might have gotten one too...but like I said, I probably dropped in 100 times...and got some nice exp for my toons and tons of little spells/fine steel, various drops...mostly vendor fodder.

Took about 3 hours here, Grand Lorekeeper was up when I got there, then 3 Loremasters, 3 PH's, followed by 4th Loremaster who dropped it (was equipped, looks like a PoP-era stumpbeater now).

Did with 80 necro (ally faction): FD, send pet, pet kills it, feign pet, stand up, suspend pet (pet still feigned),loot, camp... no faction hits as long as you don't dot.

I had a friend who needed the anklesmasher (the only snare weapon for pally), so we decided we would camp him. He does pop next to the second locked door. He and place holder pops every 26 minutes. It took eight hours and seven named to pop before he finally gave it to me.

Just to clarify, the Anklesmasher is no longer the only tradeable pally-useable Snare-proccing weapon. I know because my paladin was using another before-- Sargasso Spear... handy because Beastlords can also use that spear.
Dropped today on Povar

Dropped for me today. Cleared library of all mobs. Went down killed king room. Then killed queen room. Went back to library, and he was the only re-pop. Knew he had Anklesmasher, cuz he was wielding a big ol' hammer :). Also dropped greenmist book.
Happily I got him in less than 30 minutes of "camping". Pulling all mobs in each room at once, was a piece of cake for 83 rogue and wimpy merc.

Been one awesome week. Got a Willsapper also.

Good luck to you all and may you get your's quickly also.

Question on Damage bonus
# Jul 13 2006 at 3:33 PM Rating: Decent
22 posts
Okay stupid question here, but could someone explain the damage bonus aspect? For example this weapon reads Damage bonus 15 (@ lvl 70) so does that mean at lvl 70 this is a Delay 20 Damage 25 weapon?
Question on Damage bonus
# Oct 15 2008 at 5:27 PM Rating: Excellent
to clarify on this.. dmg bonus is additional.. so the weapon remains 10 dmg 20 dly... but if you swing it and you do 35 dmg on your hit, you then add the additional damage bonus and your hit would be 50 dmg instead of 35. It does not effect the damage rating of the weapon, but rather the end result damage that is actually dished out.

Question on Damage bonus
# Jul 29 2006 at 7:28 AM Rating: Decent

Yes, as I understand it. Damage bonus is level-based so the higher your level, the higher the bonus damage. I think it may also change based upon the type of weapon (2handers get higher bonuses than 1handers) and may also depend on the length of delay (100 delay would have greater bonus than 50 delay). But what do I know, I am a wizard!

Question on Damage bonus
# Nov 30 2007 at 9:29 AM Rating: Decent

I think what the original poster was really asking is if the damage bonus is added to the base damage before the damage is determined or if it is added to the damage after the damageis determined.

In other words, is it a 25dmg/20dly weapon at level 70 (15dmg bonus at that level) OR is it a 10dmg/20dly + 15dmg weapon at level 70?

I don't know the answer to this, and would very much like to know as well.

Damage bonus varies depending on the Delay of the weapon and your level. The higher the delay and the higher the level you are the more it is. There may be a few weapons which have an even futher increased damage bonus but I don't think there are many if any at all.

Damage Bonus is added on at the end of the calculation of how much damage we do, so the weapon wouldn't act like a 20 delay 25 damage weapon. Going with old school DnD defining you could call it a 20 delay 10 damage weapon with +15 to damage.

well, theres 2 kinds of damage bonus as far as weapons are concerned. There is 1handed bonus, and 2 handed bonus. on one handed weapons, the damage bonus is always the same, regardless of the delay. on 2handed weapons, the slower the weapon is, the higher its damage bonus is.

well here is a little input on the anklesmasher

took my 70 mage cler ench and 55 monk down to get me one had the mage imp inv and run down untill i came acros any undead then just nuked the sh*t out of them as pet tanked very easy re inv. got down to just past the bridge and needed to CoHero the cler and ench as there was many undead and lots of adds 4+? at a time and one or 2 dark blue to lvl 70 then proceded to the locked door did a /who all rog 55 70 lfg and sent a tell told him i would pay 1k for him to run to chardock and then i could /invite(name) and CoHero him down to open the door for me and send him home with a talasman of return all went to plan (= got in np had the monk FD grouped most of the time did get about 1 AA in the 3+ hours i was down there with the monk. The correct room is the one right b4 the 2nd locked door it is the bottom of the library if you come down the steps of the first floor library into the (bacement library) after proceding down stop at the bottom of the steps and turn facing them the correct mob spawns in the back left corner of this position the secret hole in the floor is just bhind the stairway dont fall in it is a pit to the king
now in the 3 hours i camped here i started by clearing the first floor then the bacement then used my eye of tallon scout down into the pit and found my way back to the other side of the locked door targeted a mob in there and then sent my pet in to get agro and bring a hell of a train out killed them all 6+ and then just kept the 1st floor and bacement library floor clear i got 6 nameds in a row to spawn 3 of the guy who doesent drop the anklesmasher then 1 loorkeper then 1 of that other guy then 1 more lorekeeper followed by a PH and campd
loot was vocal cords then legings then cape then books then legings then anklesmasher great night hope this accualy helps someone (= GN

I was getting ready to flame a little about what weapons people were listing as "AWESOME" primary's or offhander's to dual wield with Anklesmasher....Then I looked at the dates and understood much better lol.

In the present day game, this (anklesmasher) can still be a very welcome addition to a Warrior/Monk/Paladin (any class without a spell for snare). I can't see it even being decent ratio for a lower class with the current weapons available out there. However; Take a Paladin....A Paladin has no way to snare that I am aware of....by any other means, except for drops with a handful of casts, which after using, may be placed in the nearest garbage can. Same with Monk and Warrior (to the best of my knowledge). I play all caster classes, so I am drawing this knowledge from friends and from the massive amount of reading I've done...so if I am incorrect, please let me have it with both barrel's :O) (just make sure you know what you are talking about...no flaming on "i think so's", ok? :O)

Ok...back to my train of thought. Paladin dps sucks. I know that, you know that and especially Paladin's know that. Due to this fact, it's more time consuming for a Paladin to solo. If a Pally had this weapon, he could save a lot of mana and time killing (mobs die a lot faster when you can just crush them with no slaps in the face and having to take time to either get a heal off on themselves...or even more if they have to root, back up, heal themselves, re-root, re-engage the mob, etc....or when the mob starts to run, and it takes you awhile to get a root off, you may end up with more mobs to deal with and no time to determine what they con, which one is the most dangerous, etc. In other words...for Paladins, I could see this as a KILLER solo weapon. There are a couple Smaller slow proc weapons that a Paladin can use as well. One drops in a water area from mermaids or something like that....Wavecrasher/wavesmasher...something like that...and another from a dragon in Dragon Necropolis (again...i think)...I was just thinking that with the bandolier, a Paladin/SK/Warrior could effectively solo a lot more content with first slowing with slow weapon, switch to snare until it proc's, then go to your best melee weapon. Hmm....makes me want to make a Paladin and try that theory out and see how it works :) I guess the reason I keep going back to Paladin, is because they would be the best of the tank type classes to be able to most benefit from these weapons, because they can heal themselves WAY easier/quicker than a warrior fumbling with his box of bugs bunny band-aid's :O), thus making them more effective as a solo class (kinda like a ghetto version of a beastlord). I'm not really sure what a monk is capable of, but I DO know they have MUCH MUCH better dps...just not sure if they have any innate healing or snaring or slowing abilities...or other options with weapons. An SK already has snare (i think), and tons of ways to both increase damage per second and steal mana, health, etc from their enemies or through spells. Bah.....again...I've got 6 toons from 63-70..pardon...make that seven (one was given to me :O) Four of which are level 70 and in higher end guilds on TT, but I've just never gotten into the tank/melee type classes.....YET!!! :) I just hope the game lasts long enough for me to take them all to 70!! :O) woo hoo!

If there is a Pally or another tank class that has no other way to snare other than a weapon like this, please post how effective it is and if it's effectiveness ever ends (as in : Is there a certain level that it doesn't work on mobs anymore? Is soloing impossible at a certain level? Or something like that) I think my next toon will be a Paladin, so I am looking forward to some first hand knowledge about this "toy" :) Thanks in advance.

Pricing for this item goes back to 2002 and you will see that it always has been an expensive weapon. Right now 2 are for sale on my server, one for 85k and one for 125k. Weapons that proc a slow or root, or have a rightclicky slow or root have always been in high demand by those classes that can not slow or root. It does open up possibilities when soloing, however I would not say it alters your gameplay experience with a certain class *that* much. Changing out weapons has become a lot easier with the Bandolier so in that aspect, these wepaons have become even more usefull for the soloing, non-rooting/slowing Class. :)

The Snare on this should work on any mob where a Druids Snare works on. However, regular Snares are getting resisted more in the high end GoD and OoW zones so that is where the usefullness of this weapon will wane off.

i think its a good idea to sell it. you can twink you monk pretty well with 18k and level up faster so you can aquire another for you later, when you can use it effectively and your ID is higher, even tought it Rarely works anyway which sucks. Verent needs to give it like 80 percent chance at maxed out skill. When i was playing a monk level 42 i could never get it to work on mobs close to my level.

I agree but you also have to think about this: In almost every fight there is a turning point. If your turning point is against you in the battle, with this weapon, you might be able to outrun it - SOW or no SOW. It does depend on what you are fighting and wether they run fast or faster than SOW, but with this weapon - either way you have a better chance of not dieing if the fight is not in your favor.

Hi there,

I'm interested in finding out what drops this weapon. I solo with my monk a lot and having anything that casts snare, even as a proc, would be a huge asset. My guild raids Chardok occasionally, and I might be able to get them to take a few minutes to go grab one of these for me if I knew what dropped it and where it spawns.

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Says in the zone description that this zone has many random drops, since there is no spawn mentioned I'm guessing that it drops off anything in zone

Did this thing just start dropping a few days ago or something? I've never heard of one before, and there is no pricing data, and all the comments are posted after the 8th, so I'm guessing that it must just have started dropping as of last patch? Someone is selling one on Tholuxe that I want to buy, but there is no price reference and I don't know how common the dang thing is, cause this is the first one I've ever seen being sold.

I bought this weapon tonight for a Jade Mace and a Bloodpoint, worth about 13kp total on my server. Not a bad deal, IMO, the guy said he loved the mallet, that the proc worked great for taunt. He also said he got it off the Loremaster in the Chardok fortress, and I think not only is the Loremaster a pretty rare spawn, but i think this is his rare drop, and since no body camps Chardok royals for exp, this isn't getting looted much, so its pretty rare. Looks like a big Brown Wooden Mallet, cool look.

No, this dropped mid December of last year. I had to email the item in 3 times since then to get it added here. It is relatively new, but still about 2 months old. Either these are staying in guilds and not being sold much, or they're just that rare.

Decent damage/delay weapon and it keeps mobs from training all over the frigging zone.

Lady, either you're sadly misinformed of other classes capabilities, or extemely self-centered to be complaining about an ultra rare weapon that procs a snare. Especially when there's already an ultra-rare 1HB weapon (Sap Encrusted Branch) that also procs snare in PoG.

Perhaps you should experience a monk train in zone full of mobs and either runs over your little butt, or spoils a camp you've been working for the last 5 hours, and enlightens you as to the joy of allowing a snareable weapon to a 'mere' melee class; especially when said melee couldn't find a 'snare' class in our level range on that particular night.

I think this would be neat to dual wield with a "Ribcracker." You could have this in your main hand and the Ribcracker in your secondary (b/c it is Secondary only). Don't get me wrong there may be better weapons, but I just think that it would be cool to have an "Anklesmasher" and a "Ribcracker" both. Here is a link to the "Ribcracker" if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Tell you what would make an awesome combo. This weapon and a silken whip of ensnaring(14/28 -5ac procs snare either melee)The +ac on anklesmasher almost offsets the -ac on the whip. Everytime a warrior hits he would have a chance to snare. Just imagine the agro. =)

WTF? If you cant post on topic dont post at all. You really want to find that, try using the quest and equipment search links over to the left instead of being lazy and posting stupid questions in any ol' weapon page.

Sorry. I take that back. There are no stupid questions. Just stupid people with questions.

This has dropped twice during guild raids, so far those are also the only ones I've seen on the server. Dropped off of Loremaster something or another out of the library. Nice weapon, the aggro is great for tankin.

It's called Evolution:
Back when dual weilding SSoY's were "Ub3r"... that WAS the best alternative!... Kunark came out and introduced NEW weapons (better alternatives)... then Velious came out (even better alternatives) and now look at some of the Luclin stuff coming out!

Verant made EPIC weapons, practically EPIC zones, raised the lvl cap, and gave classes different skills... some people wish it to back to the "good ole' days" when Rangers had SOW at 50 and ShadowKnights never had Lifetaps, and great items weren't sold cheap, and very few twinks were around... but I feel the game is evolving for the better...

I believe anyone can carry around an UBER weapon in a full suit of twniked out armor... but it's the person behind the character that makes him/her great!

#Spectralus, Posted: Feb 09 2002 at 8:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Don't take this wrong, but IMHO, melee classes should not have "snare" effects on weapons. Stun, yes, shadowknight "engulfing darkness", yes, rogue "walking sleep", yes, but not snare. Rangers and Druids snare. I know this sounds petty, but it's pretty disheartening when you are allowed to be in the group just because you can snare (fellow rangers/druids know what I'm talking about). We lowlys have to have this to hold on to =)

Maybe we melees wouldn't need this if you druids and rangers knew how to manage aggro properly. I shouldnt direct this at just them, though, other classes have problems managing aggro too. This is an excellent warrior weapon not because of the fact that it snares the mob, since its easy to have a druid or ranger, etc, in group to snare he mob, the snare proc has a LOT of taunt to it, and can really help a warrior keep Aggro. I would love to have one of these, especially with the 4 ac and the 10-20 ratio, very nice.

ahem, last time I checked, Rangers ARE a melee class... We wouldn't get into a lot of groups without snare, so whatever gets my foot in the door is all good. Maybe if we got a huge boost in defensive skills to compensate for losing key spells like snare, I'd be for that, but otherwise I think it's invaluable to our class.

The thing with procs is you cannot control *when* it occurs so potentially it might break when the mob hits run mode or even not proc an entire battle.

Bullsh*t and you know it. Stun = Clerics and Enchanters, plus Paladins. Darkness = Necro and SK. Walking Sleep = Shaman. So why should the classes you mentioned get spells they can't get, while you WHINE about other classes getting a snare? Please explain.

I hate whiny Druids. Any class that can solo 4 exp giving mob at once has no right to complain about an effect on a weapon that drops in a 50+ zone.
/rant off

Notice which class CAN'T use it.
Beastlord.
I doubt we'll ever see a weapon with any form of Snare or Root. And I'm not going to complain about that. We don't really need it.
But it would be nice =) Just think of how dangerous we'd be if we could Snare or Root =)

look! we have a smart guy who can attack druids! guess waht else wizzys can quad kite too! didnt remember that did ya? didnt think so. who can solo from lvl 1-60? necros...oh, but that doesnt piss ya off. next time you try to complain about some druid complianing, remember that the other classes have advantages too, and they have disadvantages. remember this too. druids are basically useless after 30, cuz rangers can snare and sow, shammys can regen and sow, clerics and shammys can heal, and finally shammys have better str spell then druids. we have a very hard time finding groups after about lvl 40....and it gets even harder when you get into the 50s. even for evacs, wizzys are better cuz they deal out more dmg to the mob.

altho, druids are VERY usefull in RM, whn they kite 4 HG's at a time. those things are NOT worth the effort to kill for the exp they give,. and this way all the enterprising rogues can just go lift some spending cash off the giants. After all, druids don't need to buy things, they are able to kill ANYTHING for ANY DROP. right? ;)

I think the name comes from the Snare effect; breaks the mob's ankles, thus rendering it slow moving and unable to run away. :)

I'm not short as a Half-Elf but I see plenty of ankles in my travels. Heck, just how damn tall is the average Giant anyways!

I would agree that it might be more appropriate for the stubby folks though ;)

i think this item has alot to potential, not only having snare, bu with all the now adn before haste items, even teh low rank ones, this woudl become a decent not incredible uber equip off hadn weapon..snare, witha bonus fo attacking and such, slowing the mob and lettign you beat the hell off of it witha possible 10/10 weapon? i think this weapon gets a decent score in my book, and in any case, i think as soon as i get on tonight i might just go out and grab one myself, jsut to have it, seems rather nice, i can see it going for a 1k or more i think, snare is to nice a ability to get completly not blown out fo preportion...well anywway, my 2 cps

Sorry, Mr. 17 Cleric, but 1st of all, this thing will easily be going for 10kp, and second of all, why the hell would a cleric need it?! And Third of all, I doubt very highly that you are going to just be able to "go out and grab" one of these! Right now, there are probably about 4 of these on every Server, since Chardok is severely undercamped, and because this drops off a mob that is prolly 55+, which means not a lot of people are gonna be going deep enough to hunt him, unless they are raiding Chardok. Just so ya know. lol, 1kp, I wish. and 10/10? Doubtfull, since the highest Haste item in game is like 43%, and the highest Droppable haste item is 36% at most. Maybe if you have a chanter, but then of course any weapon would be good.

You're kidding right? This weapon should be pushing 10-15k(depending on server economy).
