#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 03 2005 at 7:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is the first expansion after the original EQ in which items with stats at all were the most wanted things by everyone. This item is not an armor to wear or a really high level thing to get, it's resist armor to use in the original eq planes. There is no real good kunark zone that you can get a bunch of good gear in cus it's strewn all around the place and a lot of it is centered around getting more resists to deal with AE spells in the original planes which were basically where people were now able to raid because of a buttload of new spells and 10 more levels...

What is wrong with you people??? Seriously. Read back on this its silly. One person says one dumb thing...

Its really simple. This is pretty late game its off a lvl 55 fish. and its a really nice item. If its better then what you have, um... wear it. If its not for you, or your needs. Dont.

Yes, Strength DOES help with damage. dont be dumb. Yes, in years of playing I have heard rogues benifit a lot from strength in their backstabs....

Maybe my filter is on? maybe I didnt catch it all? but WOW people come on. Most people of the level to obtain this IN GAME (not buying) are not having these lame debates.

Nice Upgrade
# Sep 30 2002 at 11:48 PM Rating: Good
This is a really nice upgrade from the Hero bracer and goes well when paired with a Silver Chitin Bracer. The resists are really nice and for the soloing Ranger AC STR and AGI are all really nice bonuses and the price is quite reasonable.

In the high end game I can see where STR and AC play less of a part, but the resists will always be needed and not everyone is in a guild and attends Raids.

In summary this is a great bracer for Rangers that don't have the benefit of wearing plate armor. Just my 2 cents in there.

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 23 2002 at 2:21 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THE +STR ON THIS IS SUCH A BIG DEAL. STR is meaningless in the high end game, and even though I am not there yet, I KNOW. STR is easily put over 200 by a shaman buffs. This bracer is just used for resists mainly in my opinion. 10 SvM is nothin to sneeze at on a bracer, but if I wasnt MA/SA, on HoT raids and stuff I'd definitley go BD Bracer over this. The only stats that matter in high end game for melees are HP, STA, AC (past 1.2k more or less meaningless though) and for Pallys/rangers/SKs, WIS/INT/mana. Keep your AGI above 75 and your set. STR is only good for keeping you non encumbered, as STR only increases MAX HIT damage. What you want is pure ATK from a spell like Avatar or buffs (Yaulp, rangers and SKs get em I just dont know which). Pure ATK ups your damage, STR just ups your max hit dmg, so in the end STR IS NOT SPECIAL.

STR may be meaningless in the high-end game, but some people never reach the high end game. My main is a 53 ranger that will most likely never see above 55 because I have more important things to do. For me this would be a great replacement for the tolan bracer I'm wearing (but of course I'd keep it for the arrows) and it seems like a great item for all those in there 40's to 50's that aren't in an big guild that does big raids.

ATTENTION! Please think before you speak! I know, that seems to be too much to ask for on these boards...oh well. Just because you dont need strength from your gear doesnt mean others don't. Before you rant stop to consider that there are many variances in characters in playing EQ. So you don't need Str because a shammy can easily buf your strength up? Obviously you don't play on a PvP server, you don't get the opportunity to say 'hold on, hold on, I need some str, let me go get buffed real quick.' You get jumped and are left to your own devices. What if you are a Dark Elf SK? I dare you to tell me they don't need extra strength gear. Strength ups max damage, and along with that, the average damage per hit. I don't understand how you can call this useless. YES for TANKS AC and HP will determine how succesfull you are in certain situations, but in many others your higher damage output can make all the difference if someone else is taking the blows. Ack, I hate to catch myself flaming, but ignorance bothers me, and as someone who took on the arduous task of raising an Erudite SK (hehe, I know) I know that Str DOES matter to many others, even if not to you.

You will see a huge difference between 200+ str and an 8 damage piercer or say, 175 str and a 15 damage piercer in stabs, and over all damage.

This is not really the question. Will you see a big difference between 200+ str and 175 str for a 15dmg piercer? Unless the item is a weapon, you can make independent evaluations. A warrior I know once did an evaluation, and found that going from 130 to 200 str meant about 5% difference in dps. That was over a year ago, so things may have changed.

There will be a difference. It is up to you to decide if it is enough of a difference to offset the stats you might be losing by switching out your current bracer.

I'm going to chime in long enough to say that not everyone cares about what the "end-game" requires. People may have reasons to select this item beyond its pure raid potential.

As one simple example (of many I'm sure), I am a blacksmithing Troll who likes to be able to smith at max strength (for maximum skill-ups) without requiring the highest level SHM buffs. It's just not always convenient to find a 49+ shaman in North Freeport when I'm ready to start smithing.

So its useful to me at least to have +STR items that can double as useful melee equipment -- to avoid the necessity of keeping a whole set of separate STR gear in the bank (which is already full of smithing componants).

No one here is "100% correct" -- flamers think before you post and then don't post anyway. And remember that people who think they know it all never do.

I totaly agree. We are all different and play different so each to his/her own what works for you might not for another. There is never just 1 way to do anything. Stop slagging each other off and get back to enjoying the game.

lots of good and bad on the str issue. i do agree everyone plays differently and thats how it should be.
now on to the str is meaningless---well if its so meaningless why is now in the planes everyone is so intent on maxxing out there atk. true there are buffs that help and of course some items have atk increases on it too. but also str raises as well.
im not at the high end but i read everyones board. go too the rangers glade they have a discussion on it. or how bout eq beastlords they were debating it as well.
just dont put something down just because so and so told so and so that when you get too such and such its meaningless.
play the way you have fun.
also if i can max out str thats one less buff to worry bout for me as well as the others.

Well, I for one wore this bracer far into level 60 as a monk. I could afford the weight and anything with MR is worth its weight in gold to monk IMO. Decent AC and stats. I take this over seahorse spine for monk.

Of course, Wrist guard of Thunder makes you put this away in a hurry. /Gratz bank account. Hehe.

I don't know what's devaluing about this item. The silver chitin bracer is nice but it does NOT have the resists or str this does. For my rogue I'm going after this and a silver chitin bracer, but if this wasn't lore I'd have two of them.

not a bad item
# Jan 04 2002 at 3:45 PM Rating: Decent
I wonder why this is getting knocked so much?

Sure the chitlin is better maybe. You not only need armor class in the higher level game but also resists. With the agility on this item it will be 1 ac higher which is 12 and it has 10 str so if youre not an ogre this is even better for a warrior. The resists are nice as well. Take into account the rarity of armor let alone bracer drops in WW and POH. This bracer is very far from crap.
I think people that twink really lose sight of the people who do not or are first time players. It is a good item and I would certainly wear it for now.
It's also funny how caster post about warrior stuff LOL

Velious has a very ruinous effect. When this first started dropping, it was as good as a kunark class bracer, pretty much. I believe that the kunark class bracers were lore at the beginning as well. It has become a crap loot from the dragons as of late, with velious and all. The silver chitin bracer, for example, 3.0 weight 15ac 7str 7dex 40hp, same classes can use, and the dragon bracers from WW. I have only seen one person using this bracer, and that was an iksar monk. Bit top heavy, but at high levels(he was 56 if i remember), you can have a few high weight items. My iksar monk uses barbed dragon boots 2.5 weight and engraved bone pauldrons also 2.5 weight, still able to keep weight below 17(hes lvl 45). So id say this is a monk item, cept id get stoned by the masses if i did that. Its a twink item for sure, because most people whod be killing RoS dragons would have better or at least equivalent.
Classes
# Aug 22 2001 at 4:51 AM Rating: Decent
Heh, the classes are pretty odd, if you look at them. To wit, its essentially all classes save Int casters and Druids. I originally thought it was the "chain and up" wearers, then I noticed Monk on the list. Definitely weird.

Wonder why Druids can't wear them? If Clerics and Shamans weren't included, I would have thought they were melee only (which is definitely fair, considering the stats,) but they *can.* So basically Druids are actually excluded from using the item for some reason (maybe its "unnatural.") Ah well, not like there isn't plenty of other bracers one can wear. :)

And yes, I do play a Druid main.
RE: Classes
# Sep 11 2001 at 12:31 PM Rating: Decent
Just to clear up, Monks can wear plate and chain type bracers because of the roleplaying value... thus certain bracers of a metallic nature are within our sights.

And no, this is not a Monk Item (TM) post, just a clarification. =)

One Stone=14 pounds. Since I doubt that this weighs in at 49 pounds, let's assume that Verant isn't using "Stones" as their weight identifiers.

1 stone = 1 lb, which in turn translates as 1.0 on an items. So if you see an item that weighs 0.1 it turns out to be 1/10th of a lb. if that makes any sense, =D
RE: Stone Myth

Have you ever seen a Halas 10. LB meat Pie? It's weight is little over 9.0, so the stone unit is little over a pound.

If you're high enough to kill these dragons, chances are you have better(I would know) It's nice for lower levels, but 25K? Yeah right get a Myro bracer or 5.... plus warrs can get higher ac ones (Dragonhorn bracers etc.) and 10str isn't worth the 5ac less
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 19 2001 at 7:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) where did you get 25k from? it says 4,840pp which is almost 5k not 25k. so your the idiot cuase you must have not gone to school!

Hero bracers are lore... so you can't wear 2 at once. But you CAN wear a hero bracer and this, giving a total of 20 str from the wrist slots. Hence the value.

If trak drops it its probably worth the same as a hero bracer , he seems to die within an hour of spawning , he he. That and plenty of the velious items are better... And not just the quest armor.

Great addition to my ogre warrior that cant wear a regular hero bracer. As far as prices go, I've seen UBER loot sold to vendor and crap loot sold to people for insanly high prices. People need to get over the sticker shock of one guy's purchase.
Nice, but not that nice
# Jun 06 2001 at 3:07 PM Rating: Decent
Nice. But not worth 25k for all you who think it is. 2ac, 5agi, and 10svm better than hero bracer. Think about it, do u seriously think 2ac 5agi and 10svm is going to make you 25k tuffer at the level this thing is attainable? Try fighting any of the dragons that drops this thing, with 2 extra ac, 5 extra agi and 10 extra svm. Not gonna make a difference.
Ignorance
# Jun 06 2001 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, This is a good bracer and better than a hero but 24k better? I dont think so. I could see 7k, but to whoever buys this for 25k sure is ignorant or just desperate,
