I was just doing random searches and it appears that this weapon is the best 1hs as far as meele purposes go for druids. And being that it is very out dated i really wish that SoE would reinvent druid slashers because theres tons of blut weaps out there and virutally no slashers. Ironically, i had this weap for my ranged slot at one point in time and destroyed it once i upgraded it. /smack Now i wish i could get it back for having some fun in weaponry trial outta MPG.
I have this weapon and use it occasionally. I have found that it acts more like a 200 dmg DD, since the root immediately drops when it hits. I have never yet seen it actually root any mob, even though it has proc'd often.
Suddenly have the urge to post something new on this.
I've watched this rot a couple times now in SSRA. Only one druid I know of has spent dkp on it and I suspect that was only to use it as a stat item in his ranged slot. Has a nice enough graphic, but the proc is perhaps the worst I have seen on a druid weapon.
Using this on any mob while soloing means you die (or at the very least get smacked around if it doesn't summon) once it procs. Using in a raid or group will get you smacked in the head. No one wants the mob rooted.
Shame about the proc otherwise I'd have grabbed this a loooong time ago.

A druid using a weapon on a raid should be deguilded.
However, solo farming or greenie slaying this
weapons is sweet. Go melee giants with it.
Anything that summons requires magic, not melee
from a druid anyways.

The effect is a 200 dmg root

Hehe this scimitar has less stats then the druid epic but has more dmg ratio but the proc makes up for it...

This weapon now has +5 Bane Dmg to Elemental now (yay?).
I know someone who has it. Its a range item. use your epic in primary and this in range.

This weapon was origionally dropped in EQ by killing the druid trainer at the druid rings in North Karana but it was called Oaken Scimitar. The stats are exactly the same except for the proc. Kinda sweet to see it back in the game.
The stats on "An Oaken Scimitar" were Damage: 7, Delay: 24, +10 WIS, +25 Mana, Weight: 2.0. Quite inferior compared to this new item, but every druid still lusted for one a few years ago.

got one of these last night, (i have epic, it was going to rot otherwise since there is no coh..) it umm looks neat. but thats about it heh. kinda odd that weapons that rival war and rogue epic drop from these mobs and the druid drop is well, nice for a lvl 45ish dru..

I'm a druid, so I am allowed to say our epic is shamefully easy compared to mage/cleric ect. epics. Only the rogue and shammy compare to it. However, our epic isn't that great compared to these other epics. It's *not* useful in raid situations, against mobs with decent MR, or in pvp since it has a snare component and is always resisted. Basically a resist stick w/ wisdom for primary. It might be good for soloing if you don't know how to quad, but other than that isn't the most useful effect out epic could have had. How about some FT like a wizzy epic, maybe perma-sow, something good.

Unless your in a HardCore No LIFE Ubber guild. All epics make you wait. I am a power gamer of sorts. i play 30 hours a week at minimum. but still took me a year to finish my druid epic. Having to wait for JadedReaver to drop, Competeing with 5 other classes on VS. No one epic is easier to get when your not a Hard Core player. Some move faster if you have the patience to time and get there right as they pop. Enuff said. Good Luck and happy hunting.... BTW, i wouldn't mind having this as a backup to my epic if i was a loot ***** but, since i have my epic i would pass on the roll for this to a guildie. But having this in the bank, makes a CR alot safer when your running through Dawnshroud or Burningwoods

Anyone know if the Oakleaf Scimitar still drops in Chardok? It was 10dmg 19dly 1hs DRU only some wis and stats Effect: Penetrating Roots also

Don't know if it still drops, though I'd imagine so. I had an oakleaf scimitar until I got my epic, not a bad weapon, just FYI though, the effect on it is engulfing roots (49 dru root), not penetrating roots.
i dont even play a druid but i see many of them swinging away on mobs now and then simply because they can heal themselves and also usually outrun them while soloing. also, with regen, they can usually get about full hp by the time they are FM and they can control the amt of dmg they take.
that in mind, a druid might click epic snare to place mob in a place where he gets few to no adds, then depending on proc rate, switch weaps and use this til mob is rooted. then he could DoT and have a seat and med while mob goes bye bye. it looks liek he has 3 min anyway.
i could be way off, but that looks liek a very good scenario for this weap. then again, i have never played a druid.

Hmm.. I don't think this would be a very safe practice. Even at 51 most of the mobs I solo(higher BW mobs and Raptors in TD) could seriously harm me if I stepped into melee to root them. One unlucky stun or add and I would be prolly be rez hunting =(. Course, I am not high enough to get this item yet.
In group situations with a good aggro making tank this thing would be pretty fun to play around with though.

a Stun at the wrong time can mean certain and imminent death for a caster. as a shaman, im lucky to have slow. i usually pull with it, pick mob, slow, run back to pull spot, wait till it get to me, it gets 2 whacks, then i root, very effective since i dont have to worry about getting interrupted because its not gonna swing for a good 10 secs at least. and of course, i dont always let the mob get the 2 whacks, just root it before it get to me and what not. but i always, always, always slow the mob when im soloing. for shear safety reasons. if root does break and i get into a bit of a predicament, slow can be a absolute life saver.
if only i had snare now >=)

This weapon when it comes down to melee is better than the epic.

Now I know alot of you think druids never melee. Your right for the most part. I am a lvl 55 druid without my epic, but with my PoA haste belt and can get my attack up to 950 and with the right buffs. useing a 12 damage weapon i max hit for 42 damage now on reavers in com and other high magic resists mobs and nukeing on dragons were i have to be with in melee range anyway why not have this and toss on extra damage anyway?

The reason not to toss on that extra damage is because it will add additional aggro. If your both beating down and casting on say..Velketor, for instance, and the chain CH gets screwed up and the MT dies, he's gonna go after the person with the next most aggro, and then the person after, and after, and it will eventually be you. Happens a lot quicker when your getting attack aggro too.

Hmm, i like my epic but this comes very very close to it. I'm wondering if epic weapons, in this case druids epic, which was a pain anyway, gets upgraded.

The reason the druid epic is so easy compared to other epics is because it is one of if not the weakest of them all. Cleric epic is arguably the most powerful epic that is why it is so hard. It is all done on purpose.
and this weapon rocks and is comparable to the epic, but great range item, because THE ROOT DOES NOT BREAK. If it lands you have 3mins no beaking

just like a druid to say their epic is a pain. sorry to flame you but do you have a clue as to how easy your epic is compared to others... cleric epic on one hand; rare spawns, many many hours spent sitting in one spot to get flubgurgle or what ever only to have to possibly compete with another guild/raiding party for ragefire spawn, also make a shadow knight give that epic a whirl. of all the epics out there SK is one of the most rare on account of the item placement on mobs and the rarity of drop rate. there are many other epics that are just as much a pain to get.
at least look at it this way druid epic does not have one part in any plane. faydedar is your hardest part and even then hes a cake walk. if i were you i would decide whether or not you would use this if you wont dont roll on it if you will by all means try to get in on loot. but druid epic is still way better than this one cause this effect looks like its a proc from melee and not a 2k dot click.

Lets just put it this way. I'm a mage. The wife is a druid. We are helping each other along with our epics. It goes something like this.
Sunday: Camp the corrupted HG. Kill it twice and now 2 of our guild have the stone.
Monday thru Thursday: camp Blazing elementals.
Saturday: Camp aqua gobs for lakewater...score the item after 6 hours.
Sunday thru the following weekend: Camp Wurms in BW... have yet to score the embers...
This is BEFORE the planear portions, and things like Quillmane..

Go kill Dark Reavers for weeks on end with tons of melees and other druids and rangers for the chance to just see a jade reaver. All epic are hard.
Hmm jade reavers. Not the most fun in the world. Can be done with 1 group(not even that high of level provided you know what your doing), so exp is nice. Jade reavers aren't that rare. Got 2 the last time we cleared them.
Can get a few items to sell and mage torches while your there.
You want fun? Clear minibosses in hate 25 times, and still not get the stone for earthcaller.

Three ranger stones dropped in Hate the last time my guild went. Three Soul Leech's dropped last time I was in Fear. We were pretty freaked out. Have only been to CoM once, so far. No JR dropped that time. There were 3-4 that dropped last time my guild went in there. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get one that time, but I will. 8)

The first time I ever went to Hate, the ranger epic stone dropped. :P I've been to CoM 6 times, never *seen* a Jade Reaver drop, let alone roll on one with all the other druids and rangers.

atm u can't upgrade epic weapons, but I read something from the latest fan faire that said they might be thinking of some way to upgrade your epic.
