Greatstaff of Thunder

Note sure if this event even still exists, but i found the thread so i'm posting anyway.

IMO these would be best put to use by a warrior weilding a GSoT for the 2hb mod while tanking. With a 250 cap on 2hb +10% would bring you to a grand total of 275, then adding triple attack AA's you've got some very decent DPS along with massive aggro from the proc and less riposte dmg due to the lower delay.

The only thing that would turn me away from this item would be the 31% haste and mediocre stats. That would drive the bidding up WAY too high for it to be really worthwhile, and considering 90% of the guilds capable of this event are likely farming 41% haste items that have decent stats, I'd probably opt to save those points for Xanamech's choker or similar. However, if you're a warrior in a DKP guild, good choice of loot if you think you're probably gonna get out bid on the Breastplate.

Useless ramblings, because skills cap at 252.

Skills can only goto 252 in number because that is the highest number any skill has visibly gone to, an example being meditation. However as they have stated many times the cap on every skill is 255 so this would help a slight amount. Further proof of this is the items in Vex Thal which are made only for priest classes and caster classes that give a 1% increase to meditation skill. Why would they be in there if a skill that went in number to 252 could effectively go no further? Because it does go further to 255 as do all skills in existance on Everquest...

ever heard of the term.."perfume on a pig" ??...would still be a warrior ....Pallies and SK's can also get AA for triple attack and there is no issue with aggro if you have one of them tank.
haste

according to magleo they are 31 haste
Bards can use 2hp
# Oct 11 2002 at 8:02 AM Rating: Default
Bards have 2hs and 2hb skill but it never goes above 0. Bards can use a very few 2-handed piercing weapons and we use them very effectively since our piercing skill is usually quite high. Bards with a Goranaga Spear can hit pretty hard for a non-double attack toon.
Bards?

Last I checked my bard couldn't use a 2h item. The stats are nice but the 2hb modifier goes to waste. (

bards CAN use 2hb, they cant use 2hp or 2hs, if you will notice, there are all/all 2hb weapons out there, like the OT gate hammer

Yup, 2hs too. Just not as many good items out there for us as 1hs

for bards the extra 2hb skill goes to waste...for the other classes that can use 2hb? no...my main (42sk) has a skill of 192 for 2hb...max it out and add this to it and well...you'll hit quite a bit more than you did before, as the proficiency of the weapon will go up.

in any case, this is one ubersized ring. grats to those who aquire it

FYI, they're gloves... "Gauntlets" of the Fire Ring (Fire Ring = Ring of Fire)... therefor they are the gloves of the ring of fire basically.
SKill boosts good
# Jan 29 2002 at 2:04 PM Rating: Good
The skill boosts are immense. If you have 200 skill in 2HB, then 10% boost is about 20 skill points.
a gain in 20 skill points will probably net you 3 attack per point so it's like a +60 attack item.
That's a hell of a lot of a bonus. It's like a level 50 vs a level 54.
If it is 30%ish haste, then this item is pretty uber if you ask me.

Oh yeah, interesting note. Levels are all capped at 252. So anyone who has a skill level close to 252 won't get much of a boost with this. For us pallies it's good tho. We have a skill of about 225 so the 10% will get us to max.
This was from someone who talked to Poe at the fanfaire.

Poe does spells. He evaded questions like these quite a bit. One thing he did say is that these items were an attempt at something "new" and they "no" they won't take you past your class max.

i don;t mind them so much you you have to realize that people come here to look for info, and if you spout out RMB, FBSS, RGB, SPHT, and So on they (and maby the intended party you desinged the post for are not going to understand a word you are trying to tell them. it takes a few more seconds to type out Split paw hide tunic but at least they know what it is instead of SPHT...

As a 49 ShadowKnight, with not enough money for a REALLY good 2HS, I found myself buying a cheap Soulbinder, 24 36 +2agi, +2 int, proc 105pt DoT Lifetap (Seems some ShadowKnights get bored of 2HB after a while). However I'm capped at 200 skill now... not sure how high we can get our 2HB up to, but THESE guarantee me at least another 20 skill points! Secondly, I do not have any haste items, meaning these would be GREAT for me... The ONLY problem I see is the AC is kinda low for what you'd expect to come out of the Fire Ring.

Remember, there are still people out there working on their mains that don't have he time or the "uber guild" to obtain some of the BEST equip in the game... while this quest takes time... it's not exactly a trip to the Planes.

P.S. I know this quest takes some planning, effort, teamwork, and skill... if this quest IS harder than the Planes, please let me know.

It is harder than the planes... =P

Wave 3 isn't THAT tough, but I'd consider it a 58+ 18 or so people raid minimum however...
Haste % ??
# Jan 29 2002 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
I have a friend who has these gloves but neither of us has found out definitively what the haste is. We've heard its 33% but that's unconfirmed
RE: Haste % ??
# Feb 04 2002 at 10:54 PM Rating: Decent
Haste is unconfirmed untill more people get this item and parse the speed increases.

Currently the going Haste percent is 31 on the gloves.
huh?
# Jan 28 2002 at 9:09 PM Rating: Decent
Unless haste is really good.... I dont see too many using this.

Monks/beastlords would have gotten the most use out of it I think but they cant use it. Pallys/Sks/Warriors at this level have dragon haste or better at the level it takes to do this, as do bards/rng/rogues.

Now if this was dropped by a level 40ish mob... or even if it were droppable I could see it not being considered "junk" but as the other people who have been in ring of fire recently... its not exactly up to par to the quest.
RE: huh?
# Jan 29 2002 at 10:52 AM Rating: Decent
+10% to 2HB is not to be sniffed at. This is an insane boost (assuming that your 2HB is maxxed)! This might in fact make 2HB a workable weapon for a monk with the right high-end 2HB weapon (and there are some very nice ones). Of course, the haste opens up a slot, so you can concentrate on other effects or stats. Very nice item, but as with many Luclin items, it is only useful if you're willing to re-tool your character to take advantage of it.

Remember when Verant said that much of Luclin would require you to re-think the way you play. I think items like this are what they had in mind.

as a beastlord i would have loved to be able to use this, i use a 2hb weapon and the haste and +10% on 2hb would have been exellent.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 03 2002 at 2:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Verrant just did this to **** off all the monks out there and it has made me pissed off im a lvl 30 monk and this would really come in handly FU VERRANT!
Rogue/Bard
# Jan 28 2002 at 6:36 PM Rating: Default
Although the haste on it is good, it is a bit low ac for a rogue/bard. But, this is only because of the 2h blunt modifier being so high. I'm guessing that to many rogues/bards do not use 2hblunt, and there aren't that many people besides maybe ranger's that would take the ac hit (not as big for us to the plate classes), in return for 2hblunt +10% (if you use a woodmans staff or something), and the haste. Very nice item if you plan on getting it and have the means to get it. Otherwise, can be percieved as junk by most.

Uhm... Ach, do you play a rogue or bard? I think you should be saying "a bit low for a WAR/PAL/SK" not "low for bard/rogue". These gaunts seem to kick some righteous ***** and I REALLY wouldn't mind having a pair. Many people get a misconception that a rogue needs AC as much/more than a warrior... this isn't true! There's reasons we have Evade (drop aggro, get it back on them tanks). Our forte isn't in damage mitigation (Basically what AC is for... That's the tanks domain). Ours is in evasion/avoidance. It's best for us to not take a hit at all, then to take reduced damage.

Quest gaunts and CC gaunts are better than these...Even for a rogue. They are not terrible, but not great. RvR is not so good, unless the haste is SBC/RBG level, then maybe it has some use,GoFMs are even on par with these, minus the haste.
