Very surprised that we don't have a modern item window pic of this item, as it drops of commonly farmed targets on live and progression servers.

We could use a pic of someone wielding this item.

The thread has some interesting old-school tactics discussion such as "fear kiting necro would like to get a few hits in and put a proc like this on the mob".

How do people use it in 2016?

Part of Necromancer Utility Items Set

This weapon is a blessing to necromancers in LDoN group:
In some themes (Mistmoore only at 65), we get charmable mobs. Trick is, the 65 charm breaks really often, so unless you have a debuffer (chanty shaman mage) you just can't charm, and you lose around 250-300 dps (Scion Crypt Seeker hasted with Rune of Death)

Now let's say you have one of these in your bag, just take it out, slow the mob you want to charm, melee till it procs, charm, dispel (use cancel magic lvl 16) to remove slow (necromancer slow is removed with dispel), haste, voila you're done, self debuffed pet
Of course having some HPs (to sustain the hits) and high dex (to proc faster) helps a lot

As a necro you have an alternative without taking hits:
Charm a mob, give it the orb, break mez (FD or whatever), charm a new one and have it fight the one with the orb. Your pet will get debuffed and you will be able to loot the orb back from the killed mob.

Alternatively, you can charm a mob, let it get agro on a second mob, tash the second mob, break charm, and charm the second mob. Works very well and doesn't risk the Orb.

Come on, guys. Think about this. If you want to proc this on an undead mob you want for a pet, just mez the mob before you slow it, then swing until you proc or hit the mob, in which case you re-mez and keep swinging. And yes, for those of you who don't realize it, you don't have to HIT something to proc a weapon, just swing it. :)

This weapon is not worth that up there, prolly only 1k. It's proc isn't very good, and its single target, so if you are on a raid the enchanter(s) should have used the AoE to get multiple mobs with the higher level version of the spell. The str and sta are nice but not worth the horrible dmg output. Only use i can see is if you want to solo mobs with HUGE magic resist which bards shouldn't be doing anyway. And also, Casters (pure casters that is) should not be melee'ing. (even though my friend always tries to tank and die when the tanks in his group are newbs)

Orocular, YOUR post is a little old but I will confirm what you've said. My necromancer has a dex of around 104 depending what items I have equipped, and I have a MUCH easier time casting spells under pressure with a higher dex. If I could bring my dex near what my int is, I could cast while running my azz off. hehehe

I'm a level 42 Bard that just aquired one of these and I'm pleased with my 4.5K purchase. Although this isn't the best item in my lot by any means; Partison's, wristsnapper, Symphonic Dagger and harmonic dagger are far better damagewise. But during a Raid or group without a chanter, I can see whipping this bad boy out and use it in main hand til it procs.. then I'll switch back to wristsnapper or dagger for higher damage.

BTW, does anyone know when this item procs? I know at lvl 42 its giving the message "a frost giant scout glances around nerveously" and I'm solo'ing so I know that this has to be the proc. Also, is anyone else having the some problem I am of it only going off once in a blue moon? I mean I'm lucky to get it to proc once every 2 fights. BTW I'm using Katta's sword dance to get my Dex extremely high yet getting it to proc is like pulling teeth. *Edit update* I've noticed that when I'm grouping, it procs ALOT more but I don't know the reasoning for this. Could be level orintated. I'll get back to this forum when I'm higher and see if it procs more when I'm soloing and grouping

Got one for my bard in The Bazaar for a ridiculous price. I think the person left a 0 off the price when they entered it...:) Does not proc for me at 39, hoping it's 40. Tashania is an unresistable enchanter spell that lowers MR 31 to 33. Huge for a soloing bard as theoretically resists should become practically nonexistent. If it procs and you are fighting only one mob, then switch it out as the spell duration is pretty long. In short you only need it to proc once per fight. Again, it is unresistable. Gotta love it. Very powerful item and not easy to find. Looks cool as hell too, like a red glowing orb enveloping your hand.
coz you dun have one )

if you are a chanter, may be this item is not that useful for ya. But as a mage, this is just awesome ) i can proc something that i can never cast P the 9 str and 9 sta is nice ) and it gave me 35mana also ) it looks like a glowing black stone but it is a 1hb ) dun even think ppl will sell you one cheap no matter what you say, coz you will find out it is not easy for you to get this ultra rare item =P

Who cares about damage off this thing. By the time you casters are getting this if you are getting into the melee part of the battle, you should have made a tank.

Tashania is a level 44 enchanter spell, and the "Tash" line of spells is one of the best spells enchanters get. Chanters always must have this loaded - it is a MR debuff against mobs - and it makes ANY caster more effective against mobs. While there is no INT or CHA on this item, chances are somebody high enough to be on a Naggy raid already has enough INT or CHA elsewhere on their body to be near/over 200 already and can swap out their primary item in favor of this.

Hmm, manaless debuff that helps improve casters effectiveness... sounds like a good deal. :)

well here's an idea smart guy. a necromancer's primary method of delivering death is via fear kiting with his/her pet. i know TONS of necros who enjoy a little bit of melee while fear kiting. esp when they have procing weapons that do neat stuff like nuke, or DoT, or cast Tash. this is an excellent weapon for that purpose, not too bad delay and if it doesn't proc, oh well not much is lost. high lvl casters melee by choice, not by necessity 99 times out of 100.

Kinda a letdown for a naggy item. Not that hot of a dmg/del ratio, only fair +stats, and the proc should be right click effect. That may be a tad bit overpowering, so give it a hella cast time, and move it down to Tashani instead of Tashania(or even lower). Then you would have all the wiz/mag/necs tearing some throats out for this item.
Proccing...
# Jul 25 2001 at 4:17 PM Rating: Decent
A few months ago, an item would proc from outside of melee range, as long as you had an NPC targetted and had Auto-Attack on. I am not sure if it is this way any more, as my Serrated Bone Dirk has not procced outside of melee range for quite some time... It is a really good trick though, or WAS a really good trick, I dunno...
RE: what it does
# Oct 08 2001 at 2:20 PM Rating: Default
Casters don't lack dex...if they're a smart caster that is--dex is the likeliness that something will interrupt casting, and wizards/mages/necros don't like being interrupted..
RE: what it does
# Nov 12 2001 at 7:14 AM Rating: Decent
uh, and casters DO lack dex... all caster want is MANA, and HP. Any mob from about lvl 50 is going to beat the heck out of a caster, high dex or not, ac or not.
Oh, and btw - agi is the stat determining wheter you evade a blow or not, dex is for procing and weapon skills.
from what i was able to gather from verant and various posts around that topic its ONLY channeling what determines wheter you regain concentration or not (if you get hit)..

I know your post is a little old. You got that going for you. But I am here to let all direct damage casting classes know that there is now a reason to build dex on a wizard / mage. That being critical nukes. I don't know how, but dex is figured into the formula. But, I am a level 52 wizard now, and I seriously wished that I had more dex, its close to 100 now.I am currently looking for int / dex items.

There are two things that dex does for a caster.

1. As stated previously, dex helps with crits.

2. As stated in a prior post, if your getting hit, it also helps with your channeling checks.

So, now, your getting beat on because of that 3k crit you just landed, and on top of that, you channel through the hits the mob is getting in on you, and, you root it and back away. The alternate advancement system has brought about many changes to the way the entire end game can be looked upon. I think it was a wonderful way of bringing the wizard back to life. Can you imagine a wizard with a Boon of the Garou in an area effect group? 875 on all the mobs pulled from the zone to disco be a level 52 druid in Sebellis, and wow, you just crit'd on an AoE spell. So, thats at least in reality, 12 crits at one time. I have yet to do more experimenting with this possibility, but, needless to say, it is nearly endless.

I've seen more Orbs drop off of Naggy than anything else!
RE: Ultra rare, Ya right!
# Mar 31 2001 at 4:09 PM Rating: Default
It is said to be ULTRA RARE because Naggy isnt killed as much as most thing =)
For example, if Naggy dropped this ALL the time, it would still be ULTRA RARE cuz Naggy isnt killed ALL the time.
