low ac, low HP alot of damage

A level 50 ranger can deal out much more damage then a level 50 warrior, and we have a wide array of spells that can be very helpful in most situations, so maybe the lack of HP and AC is our downside, im not saying this makes these items ( shich are a waste of time ) awsome, im just saying we will never have a AC like a warrior of the same level
This is junk

As much as i'd like to agree with you Dralik, sadly this series of items leaves you wondering what on earth would a newbie say to this item? This item and the whole twilight series of armor for ranger's is on par with an aviak charm.

And as much as it's all about the adventure, you won't get to adventure much post 45 if you have these items, IMHO, of course YMMV
Concerning Rangers and AC

Alright. Look at it this way: I do more damage and hit faster than most warriors I group with. Which means that I get AGRO, now that is why Verant made Jolt. However, after 50 if a mob unslowed is beating on you for the time it takes to cast Jolt, maybe 2 or 3 times a fight then that = one or two Celestial heals from a cleric. So a Ranger with bad ac post 50 = a MAJOR mana drain. (before 50 I didn't have so much trouble with getting agro, bt in fact a ranger at ANY level with bad ac = a major mana drain.) We need to be able to take the pop shots mobs throw at us while casting jolt without getting down to far in health. You have to understand that a Ranger has like 3/4 to 1/2 the hit points of a warrior. So if we have good ac and get doubled for 100 instead of 130, those 60 hitpoints mean alot. This is especially applicable when we are the snarer in the group, as snaring generally gets us agro. (Tunare bless the few warriors i have met who can hold agro even while I am snaring!) However, without taunting or snaring or casting AT ALL, I generally get agro a few times a fight which, if fighting things like bodyguards and cursed hands in KC, can mean up to about 600 hit points of damage taken while casting jolt those 2 or 3 times. 600 hit points is about 1/3 of a Ranger at 52's total hit points.

I am sure from this you can begin to see the necessity of Rangers having good ac. This is just speaking from my expirience as a level 52 (first character and untwinked) Ranger. I am sure that some Rangers out there (the ones with better gear and aha! better ac) could find this unreal as they don't get hit for quite that much, etc. However, a majority of the Rangers I meet have ac about like mine.

Hope this sheds some light on this for you.

P.S. Glad I didn't go out spending hours trying to get this gear, or spend pp to buy components! YUCK once again they give Ranger's the stiff. This should be level 25-35 quest gear, not 45-60.

dont you just love it when a player of another class tries to tell a player of a different class how he should play his character? Take the druid telling the ranger (who is lvl 52 he said btw...i think he knows his class by that time) how to play his ranger. Love it love it. Now lets go see if we can find some cats telling dogs how to behave.

lol, I REALLY wanted to say that on my post, but figured that it would take away some from the message I was trying to get across. Glad someone said it though.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 24 2002 at 2:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you obviously dont know your class well if you think rangers need more ac... rangers are like monks... dmg dealers, not takers... only in an extreme situation will you see a ranger tanking post 50... +str good harder hits +dex good more hits land +wis good more mana for attack buffs and direct damage spells...

Actually, in post 50's levels AC becomes more important to rangers than at any other time. I have to agree that we can deal alot of damage so the pure combat skills (stength and dexterity) are important but at the same time you will need AC alot.
Luckily there is alot of good gear out there that will increase both at the same time. One just needs to be careful when upgrading gear. Remember a well rounded character (regardless of the class) is going to excel over a char that is concentrating on just one area.
Also, keep in mind that Rangers are going to excel the most when soloing or in small groups. At this time AC is going to play a major factor in your success.
My recommendation for post 50's Rangers looking to upgrade their armor is to check out the Grey. There are alot of nice drops from the named around the temple. I would almost say that most of the Shissar Armor had rangers specifically in mind.
I'm not one to flame, but felt I should respond to this post. I hope my two cents helps you guys out.
Good luck.

He wasn't talking about the item, he was talking of the importance of armor class AND stats for a ranger, post-50.
This is junk

I never flame anyone for their opinion but this time im gonna flame verant big time, im 52 and was trying to get these armor items and it is very hard to come by them, most items needed drop from rare spawn named stuff anywhere from light blue to dark blue cons to me, but as these items are being posted I look at there stats and they really, really suck for the trouble one goes through to get them, I say BAH on verant, they suck, as a ranger at post 50 lvl's I need more AC not str and 1 dex is laughable on any item at any lvl LOL, very unwise armor planning verant, give us more ac please

Not all armor in this game is to be worn. Sometimes it is nice to say you went out and did it yourself! then u can make a newbies day by giving out or make it a guild armory item. plenty of us in Knights Initiative do it for our guild all the time. So what if it sux. sometimes its about adventure!
