Acrylia Farming

Rather then wasting blocks and bricks by converting them to bits (one block only makes 2 bits, a rip off) make a deal with a local smith. They often need blocks to make acrylia plate armor. I have a smith friend and what we do is trade blocks and bricks for peices. He gives me 6 peices for a block, 3 for a large brick. This way he gets the blocks he needs and I get the bits I need. We usually farm at different times and in different area's so we're not competeing for mobs either. A very effecient system.
Good luck.

How to get Acrylia
# Jan 27 2003 at 9:01 PM Rating: Excellent
I know that finding acrylia is ridiculously difficult, but I came up with a few ways to get some and get my skill up. One of the best ways is to have guild members farm them for you. If any guild memeber gives me 8 bricks or 16 pieces, I give them a piece of their choice. I also keep my eyes peeled for people in the bazaar selling acrylia, then make the same offer to them as well.
I've also used my 51 druid to organize "Acrylia Raids". I sheppard a group of high 20's and low 30's to the Tenebrous Mountains, then keep them alive while they kill Grimlings. At the end of the session, collect all the acrylia, then have the kiddies roll to see who gets to have a custom made item. The ones who don't win split the cash loot items like windstones and other gems, and the end up with good EXP to boot. Everybody goes home happy, especially the lucky one who just got himself a new Acrylia Studded item worth 1k!

Price Dropping
# Sep 04 2002 at 5:31 PM Rating: Decent
I bought one of these for my druid on the Morrell-Thule server the other day for 800pp. I think its a great deal for a 10 wisdom cloak with the bonus stats. The high quantity in the bazaar seems to be dropping the price to 1k pp or sometimes lower.

bazaar Supply
# Aug 21 2002 at 9:07 AM Rating: Decent
with the impliment of the Bazaar. Sales of the cloaks have made the values drop. I cannot sell a cloak for more than 1200 plat on The Rathe server. 4 to 5 hours of hunting. not farming, I still gain Exp from the Hoppers and Ore dropping mobs. I have grown poor and frusterated with tailoring. I have spent high amounts of coins to improve my skills yet my skill improvement is growing maddeningly slow. To those folks that need this cloak or other high end tailor skilled items, buy it from a tailor. save yourself some time and coins, dont learn tailoring. Being undersold by other merchants who are already too wealthy to speak is just too frusterating and if i could, I would start over and choose a less frusterating skill, like jewelry crafting which i can buy all the ingrediance at one vendor. maybe even smithing. heck Brewing would be better! ::mutters something about Qeynos Afternoon Tea::

Got Very Lucky!!

Just to let everyone know that it is possible to get one of these fairly cheap, I paid 1500pp for mine on Torvo. I would'nt sell it for 10k though! :D

I don't know if it's something new they added with one of the many recent patches, but I've looted acrylia off of the tribal lookouts, workers, etc in Dawnshroud Peaks, same place for the rockhoppers. I still need to get a butt ton more but I'm working on it. =) Happy Hunting!

What is lacking here is how to make the studs and is the hard part. I'm not a smith nor have any other skills so it took me awhile on eqtraders.com to sort out the jibberish.
You need "Small pieces of Acrylia" or something like that. Small and large blocks can't be used and sadly, those are abundant in the grimling mines. Two pieces to make an acrylia bit and 3 bits to make 2 studs. This cloak requires 4 studs and a superb quality rockhopper hide... and something brewed and a pattern. I think I'll just buy one for 3k ;)

The "Smithing Chisel", buyable at most smithy vendors, will break down as follows:

1 Block -> 1 Large Brick -> 1 Small Brick -> 2 Small Pieces

So don't go selling those blocks/bricks, keep them and use the chisel to break them down to 2 pieces.

If you had a "friend" with 250 tailoring, and you don't already have one, I'd start wondering exactly how good of a friend you had.

As the title says, I find it odd that the studded cloak is better than the reinforced. Any class wanting wisdom would certainly sacrifice 2ac and a few other minor stats for 5 wisdom. Any melee, including hybrids, should have a higher ac cloak than either of these. This cloak is wonderful for pure wis casters, where the reinforced is just a bit better than a molten cloak. As I said, odd.

I'm a master tailor. 200. And I've camped this stuff for the cloak. It takes about 2 hours if you're lucky, getting constant drops from the ONE mob in the ENTIRE zone that drops it with any frequency. And then you gotta defend the camp from other, more greedy folks. You get lucky and only spend 2 hours for one try. Great and dandy. Then ya gotta get the skins. Better have a decent group or be high level. Those rockhoppers hit hard and it's easy to get adds. You might be able to just buy the skins off of people hunting them for XP, but I doubt it. And the superb skins are a lot rarer than the flawless skins. Expect 2 more hours per skin. So we're looking at 4 hours total to make one cloak. And that's if you can get the acrylia camp. I'm sorry, but I'll never let one of these babies go for less than 10K. Now if someone ELSE wants to put in the time and energy to get everything, then spend time to hunt down high leveled tailors, by all means do it yourself. But if you want one on MY server, you're gonna shell out. Big.
Nice cloak
# Jan 22 2002 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
This is a great cloak. Of that there is no doubt, I am however a little upset that the trivial is set so low on a item like this though. If Tangurena post is correct and the trivial is 188 for the acrylia studded, it makes smithing almost completely pointless. I have to go through hell and high water to make imbued Field plate and, compared to this, it sucks. The stats on the imbued cloak (Rodcet Nife) are AC 11, +4 Wis, +2 Sta, +2 Cha. The trivial on it is somewhere in the 240 area.

I do indeed realize the AC difference, but c'mon, doesn't it seem just a bit unbalanced? Just my opinion.

The preturbed human smith...
RE: Nice cloak
# Jan 23 2002 at 10:53 AM Rating: Decent
I agree that the trivial level of this item is surprisingly low for the stats it has....But.....

Have you tried to collect Acrylia yet? All I hear about is people getting enough acrylia for 4 (That's four) attempts in 6-8 hours of camping. And those that are farming this for sale are asking big plat for it.

I would honestly agree with the price that is listed on this item. It seems that Verant has handicapped this item by allowing a low triv on it, but nerfing the components, making them as hard to get as some of the High-end items themselves.

As a master smith and decent tailor, I certainly see your point. My main character is a cleric, and I sure as heck would choose this over the imbued armor, particularly since his deity is Mithaniel Marr, so he only gets 2 wis. What is the loss of 4 ac, when this has 8 more wis. On the up side, if this trivials at 188, then I can still attain my goal of becoming a grandmaster smith, and make these as well.

I agree with you but for one thing...Tailoring takes a lot more effort to raise as a skill. I think it's pretty well balanced the way it is. One more thing, as the last tailoring patch is much newer than the last smithing patch, the items should be better considering the general equipment quality rise.

I fully agree with you that tailoring is a much more difficult tradeskill to master; finding all the pelts and such. But, in a tradeoff, smithing is mindnumbingly expensive. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but tailoring isn't really a expensive tradeskill is it? I'm not much of a tailor (only to make leather padding) so don't flame me, but aren't most of the patterns a plat or less?

I'm crossing my fingers and praying you're right about possible new recipes coming out for smithing. There seems to be quite a bridge that needs to be crossed in balancing the value of the two tradeskills.
cost of tayloring
# Jan 30 2002 at 1:08 PM Rating: Decent
Heh. Take it from someone who's been there.

250 jewler -very expencive, as each faiulre eats about 100+ plat at high end-
162 taylor -more expencive, as each try takes about 50 plat, and you usually fail due to 250 triv rate-
175 smith -cake-, and not to hard to go further compared to tayloring. I just had a spare 8 hours and decided to become a smith.
128 tinker -glaringly expencive- and ya gotta be a gnome. your looking at 40k easy to get to 140.

I bake, and fletch, and potter all over 100. all these skills are jokes.

Tyaloring is worse than all the rest put togeather. In the time and money I have spent to get to a 162 taylor, I could be where I am in all my other skills 3 times over.

I do agree with you though, Tailoring is very very very hard and expensive / time consuming to get up.
RE: Nice cloak
# Jan 23 2002 at 9:39 AM Rating: Excellent
Actually, tailoring can be VERY expensive unless you're willing to farm the majority of the componets yourself.. even then it takes a lot of time.

For high end tailoring (like the dreaded Wu's) you have to have vials of mana from enchanters and the ingredients alone can cost you a prohibitive amount. In order to raise my skill in tailoring from 148 to 153 cost roughly 1K in componets (with a 221 wisdom) and that was mostly spent of the vials of viscious mana (with no charge to cast the spell from a friend).

While not as expensive as jewelcrafting, it take a lot more time than smithing does often requiring days of farming to build up the supplies needed to get a good number of attempts accomplished (and don't even get me started on the rarity of the velious componets).

I disagree, i took JC to 200 in one day, it cost me 4k, I took tailoring to 200 in about a year cast me close to 60k just to get there, i have spent another 80 to 100k just to get from 200 to 212 you see velium has to be smithed with a 26pp component and some of the velious armors that it used to take to raise skill with use many studs/bonings making it 50pp plus on a combine or for the vial of xxxx mana and the thread you need 500pp per combine, high end Tailoring (WU's is not high end) costs a lot of pp, it has to be the most expensive trade skill in the game, just for the velium temper it takes you to raise to 250 will not even compare to what it would cost you to raise skill to 250 in all other tradeskill combined
