easy camp
# Apr 23 2003 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
This is a extremely easy camp for a high lvl necromancer to hold. I myself can camp the entire building solo and get a little AA exp from named. You can single pull the common mobs there with spells but they will still aggo you and pet and they see invis and they are invised. So cast DMF and buff yourself up. Arch lich up and cast shackle of spirit on them to pull and once you get outta aggro range send in pet. Then lifetap at will and let pet tank no problem. Chew your way in once you clear all the named just keep clearing building from top to bottom untill you get bored or dont have any room left for loot.

Most of the nameds will gate at 10-20% health. They can easily be re-pulled by just running in the door. Problem with this is that they usually CH and bring a few friends. Solution: Bring a Nec with you. he can fear the nameds at 20%. Works everytime.

Why you would try this camp wihtout a Nec (Undead Slow) is beyond me anyway....

"lifetap"???
# Jul 09 2002 at 3:02 PM Rating: Default
so far everything posted is right to what my group saw while hunting here. Except for one small thing, these vamps do not i repeat DONOT life tap, they life draw, play on words? not in the least, a life tap (like a blood points proc) transfers the targets hps to the attackers hp pool. a life DRAW takes targets hps but does not resupply the attackers hps...so yes the 200 hp life draw can be problematic, but its not like everytime it hits you have that much more work to do... all you have to do is make sure your healers are on the ball( i would suggest at least 2 per group) and that you have some good risist gear and MR buffs on to ease your pains..lol oh and one more thing PALLYS are the way to go up here, these mobs are unholy and undead pallys have a purpose here after all...finally a hunting area for the holy worriors...now to find a purpose for rangers.....

Umm, Lifedraw is just a name of Life Tap spell. Lifedraw is a level 12 Necro Spell and is a Lifetap. Though the damage their effect does is way above the spell. Then again we already know that MOBs do NOT follow the same rules that we do in the game.

The little time I have spent killing these things it sure looked like their health went up went I got hit with their Proc..

Not sure how much time you've spent killing vamps, but I can tell you they lifetap. All the vamps in TM lifetap, I've watched their health increase after lifetapping.

our experience

Well, the castle was pretty easy with the 6 of us. 59 warrior 58 enchanter 56 cleric 55 druid 54 Mage and 50 wizzy. I was the warrior, and I just pulled all the mobs one by one outside to our camp. We were able to get to all the named mobs and all the other mobs for that matter. Group decided to stay outside since we were doing fine that way. As for a post i saw earlier, I had over 1200 ac and 117 MR and I was still lifetapped like crazy =) Cents and the generals we just fought like regular mobs, I tanked and other people did their thing (nuking, dot'ing, etc.) On the named pulls we had our enchanter chain stun, while the casters chain nuked, and they went down pretty fast. They hardly ever got off many lifetaps. It helps to have more casters here, since their ac is so high that my hits were quite weak. But some of their resistances were relatively low and our mage and chanter kept most mobs tash'd and malo'd - our 50 wizzy never complained about resists. Experience was quite poor for my level, but our wizzy got nearly a yellow and a half in a 3 hour period. We also got the Girdle to drop, and that wisdom mace. Plus a half dozen or so general capes and some sort of mana/resistance locket. So hope this helps, and have fun =)

Fresh analysis
# May 23 2002 at 8:41 AM Rating: Decent
Our experience last night with a 60 shaman, 56 ranger, 54 paladin, and 54 druid:

1. Nothing with visible wings is snarable or rootable. The ranger and I (the druid) spammed several of them just to make sure. This is with the malo...when we could get it to stick.

2. The information regarding these mobs from a level perspective is very, very misleading. They have a TON of hit points and TONS of ac and they do lifetap rather prodigiously...even slowed.

3. The better of the items are extremely rare. We probably killed Gorelaz 5 to 7 times between two visits and saw one blood fiend girdle...none of the other rare items.

4. There are plenty of opportunities of adds. The coterie centurion seem to be on a 10 minute spawn.

5. Corpse recovery is VERY, VERY difficult. The vampyres see both kinds of invis (yes...invis undead.) We tended to succor/evac early, but the one death we had required re-wiping the bottom half of the building...and you usually end up killing at least one named in that process.

Given 1-5...our party was very challenged by this area even in the mid-50s. The exp was just 'ok' (two blue bubbles at 54 in 6 hours...but with two evacs and one corpse run.)

Estoriath, I hate to say it but you are just plain incorrect. All of the winged named vampyres are IMMUNE to snare and root. Malosini until you are blue in the face, tash till the sun stops rising and you will NEVER EVER get them rooted or snared. Also...slowing a vampyre makes it seem like they proc a lot less but really, they still proc a hell of a lot...just that they are attacking much more slowly.
Think before writing.
# Apr 09 2002 at 8:06 AM Rating: Default
Riket, do you have a clue what you are talking about? The mobs are NOT immune to snare or root. It's just insanely hard to make it stick, but trust me, once they're malosinied ( which almost always stick on the first try ), you can root them with a minimal effort.
As for getting lifetapped for 200 each time you get hit... Go get some levels, and some gear upgrades. We had 55 paladin tanking these, and she hardly ( if ever ) got lifetapped. As for the flurries, if you're getting hit for 50-100 per hit, then you seriously need to get better items... At ac 1145, our paladin was getting hit for low 40s.
So please, please, don't post about things you honestly don't know a lot about.
As for every camp, that castle can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. The item dropped there are nice ( too bad the drop rates are very bad - we killed each named 5 times, and we only had the monk/bst weapon drop ), so expect the mobs to be harder than most, especially since it's Luclin.
No, Valdanov Zevfneer does NOT spawn in that castle. Only trouble you can get into is if Heratius grolden pops ( level 58 named, random pop, has quite a lot of hps and hits as appropriate for his level ) .
RE: Think before writing.
# Mar 02 2003 at 7:55 AM Rating: Decent
The comment by Estrosiath that Valdanov Zevneer does NOT spawn in the castle is very untrue. He spawns on the balcony at the top of the castle after you kill Heratius Grolden. Have seen this many times while camping top floor. Maybe your see invis wore off when he spawned =)

Well, not exactly.

Tilexior is one coterie we found that was immune to snare/root, but most of the others can be rooted. Some of the wandering mobs outside the castle (bats/sonic wolves) can't be rooted and can be quite an irritation even though they're green cons. No, they're not resisting, they are "immune to changes in run speed".

Expect to get lifetapped. I'm a 56 war and had 121 MR at the time, and couldn't resist it once. I'm fairly certain their lifetap is on a magic counter (believe it's 'Drain Blood'). Maybe ~200 MR and you can resist it, but I didn't have my resist gear with me. They don't proc every hit, but 5 times a fight is a modest estimate.

Expect to get hit harder than "the low 40's". 40 - 100+ is their range, max hit was probably around 140 for the nameds, 110 for the regular cents. This was at 1113 AC. Not very hard, but their lifetap can occasionally double-proc. ** Clerics need to be aware of this and consider starting CH a bit sooner than usual. A 100pt double + a double lifetap proc can mean 600 hps gone in the blink of an eye.

Additional info- Some of the nameds are casters and will dispell, nuke and gate.
Coming from a nec~
# May 01 2002 at 1:40 AM Rating: Decent
Coming from a necro... lifetaps are prolly some of the hardest spells to resist... i could always tap almost any red mob that i was fighting (for whatever reasons i had hitting red mobs [helping people, got jumped and let pet get agro but i needed some life,etc])... in fact... i think the only red mob that i tried to tap a couple times who resisted more than once was prolly the scion... lol~ no chance sticking one there... anyhow... check for resists on taps is way high... 100s maybe? all you people... dont go thinking you will never get tapped without some decent-high magic resists~

Let me tell you about the Keep. 3 wandering wolves. Wandering mobs that aggro and some cant be snared or rooted. 200 HP lifetaps everytime you get hit. High MR. Mobs that invis themselves. Named mobs that cant be rooted. Oh and did I mention that quite a few of the named gate when low on health. Stop on by for that waxing and good luck on getting a rez this zone.

OMG...what did you expect. The loot here is nice and zone is WAY!!! undercamped. TWO ZONES to run for safety...try that crap in SEB where the zone out can be a pisser just by itself.

City zone just to the west. Sell, med, resupply and camp. Damn Nice.

Experience is just topping on this sundae. So you expect the MOBS just to hand you a TRADEABLE +6 belt (+ other stats), and +8int cloak (+other stats), and so on.

Stop your whining and get to swinging and casting before others find out about the gold mine!:)

The 3 wandering wolves are triggered when someone stays in front of the castle long enough (like 30 mins or 1 hour, havent timed it), their agro range is horrible large so its almost impossible to escape. I know this because I've been hunting in front of the castle for quite long pulling from inside and after one patch, these wolves started spawning when I went there and stayed for a while.
About the castle itself.. yep, nameds are indeed inmune to root and snare and have a disgusting 200 hp lifetap proc.. also almost all of them gate when low on health but NONE of the vampires in Tenebrous (either in camps or the castle) casts invis on themselves. Its invis vs. undead. If you stay a few minutes watching the coterie centurions at the entrance of the castle without see invis on, you'll see how they cast it.

Hope this helps :)

No they aren't. I've spent many hours (24+) playing in this zone, and I can tell you they are not triggered.
The wolves are all the leaders of the other camps in the zone. Bedlavar, Goladus, and one other, I think it was Drovalak or something similar.
Those guys will spawn in their camps, and then after a while, they despawn, then the wolves spawn in their place (they turned into the wolves) and then they head to the castle. Their aggro range isn't all that large, so you can camp the front of the castle (the cents) and be ok.

# Mar 05 2002 at 5:07 PM Rating: Excellent
I beg to differ, when I went there and camped next to the wall instead of in front of the castle, the wolves never spawned (aprox. 6 hours).
I also hunted in the camps with my usual partner trying to raise his faction in Katta, the leaders never turned into wolves...

That was 1 month after Luclin came out, so VI might have changed it..
