who cares what class gets it.. just keep in mind your warrior does the tanking, and this has a nice parry mod.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 16 2003 at 10:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) almost as good as the the other weapons velious era ones, the snowchipper, spiked velium mallet an etc... only reason i would tank one of those over this is the proc from them, other then that this thing is VERY nice, i would honestly let the ranger take this, 100mana is a waste for my warrior.
RE: warriors

Decent Ratio, Good Defensive Skillmod but mainly 10 Stamina and 100hp, any tank that didn't have better would love this as an offhander =)
offhand ...

There is only one good place for this weapon IMO ... alongside a bloodfrenzy or other awesome taunting weapon in the offhand of the maintank on a raid. The 5% parry bonus (warriors are capped at 230 parry so it adds a bit ...) will help keep him alive a little easier. The stats are good enough to even do some dmg too.

Rangers nowaday should stick to their arrows and all classes except the warrior are supposed NOT TO GET HIT. Since this is the only really useable weapon with a parry bonus it should be primarily for warriors.
RE: offhand ...
# Apr 02 2003 at 9:04 PM Rating: Default
Don't bother with the ONLY WARRIORS SHOULD BE GETTING HIT arguement. If that was true, then all other classes may as well have 50hp right?
RE: offhand ...
# Dec 19 2002 at 11:12 PM Rating: Default
I dunno... I kinda agree with him. Lets see -- Bards/Sks/Pallys all have Class specific weapons that do incredable damage because they do not get both Double Attack and Dual Wield, only one of each. This should never be awarded to any of these classes because it would be a huge waste, Paladins/SKs with this raid force could easily get a 20/20+ 1h or 55/45+ 2h...

On Rangers, I will get alot of flamage for this, but they do not dish out alot of dmg. Both on a Paladin and an SK I have easily outdmged Rangers using both two and one handed weapons, I dont understand it at all because they get ATK buffs and everything, but Oh well. Rangers definately do outdamage bards though. When a Ranger can pull of 680 Damage with a Delay of about 2 seconds using a good bow and some AAs, they could easily match their normal damage, although Most of the time they go ahead and Melee.

More flame time, but I do not see the point of rogues, they don't even seem to pull off as much damage as monks or warriors when they are clear for backstabs, I dont know why, I'm sure there are some good ones out there but not many that I see...

Therefor, the solution is to give this to the beastlord, because thats just silly goose and there is nothing better to do.

Maybe you out damage the Rangers you are around, but with Swiftwind in hand, I have to be carefull about pulling aggro from the MT to often, and with a Bow and the innate haste Swifty gives, I tend to at least match most other classes.

1HS Weapon for a beastlord?!?!?

Point of order here - My beastlord has the Paw of the Warwolf which adds 4% 1HS bonus. This weapon is a 1HS weapon usable by beastlords, right? So who knows how high a beasts 1HS skill can go?

I tell you all now - Zero. Zilch. Nada.

What I find hilarious is that a beast can wield an Axe of the Warmaster, when he'll only EVER have a skill of ZERO. But hey, I can add that 4% bonus on my zero skill to make this weapon not one bit more useful.

I'll probably end up getting messages that say "You missed again, and you have gotten NO better at 1 Handed Slashing Weapons!"

Seriously, they probably intended to give the beastlord class 1HS skill but changed their minds about it - I just wish they'd get up and clean up these little messes and straighten them out - If the PotWw was edited to HTH, I could get over seeing stuff like this, but hey, that would make us, what, satisfied? Too much to ask for, eh?

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 13 2002 at 5:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This weapon is useless to a beastlord and a beastlords 1HS skill cannot increase. 4% of 0 is 0 which means your 1hs skill would never change and in case it wouldn't do you any good if it was +4 1hs because you still would have practically no attack. This weapon being listed as beastlord only is obviously another mistake by VI

Better than ranger epic
# Feb 02 2002 at 1:41 AM Rating: Decent
Everyone seems to be missing the WIS that this weapon has on it. Don't forget the ranger epics have ZERO mana or Wisdom attributes. This plus the awesome stats and bonuses of the weapon makes it a VERY nice alternative 1HS'er over the Earthcaller.

Just got this tonight, I'm happy :) Little slower than my club .. ok a lot slower.. (club is 12/17) but the stats more than make up for that, and the parry is a blessing for bards imho.

Yes it is dropped by the 5th boss (did not get to the 6th so not sure on that one), and was actually seen by many to be his "booby prize".

I guess when compared to the ft3 mask... i can see why.

It has however, been updated to 12/22 dam/delay, and frankly, I really like it :)

Elemental dmg
# Jan 17 2002 at 12:58 PM Rating: Decent
actually this is NOT 15/23 because of the 3 magic dmg, every swing does a resist check, which is easy to resist, from parsing the log of a LSoEE which has 5 magic dmg ive found out that most of the time the magic dmg is completely resisted against mobs with average to low MR, it was done with a lvl 45 ranger in DL on spiders/drovlargs/birds.. about half the time the magic dmg was resisted, the other half of the time the magic dmg was spread evenly between 1 and 5 dmg.

more info/graphs of dmg go here:

RE: Risk V. Reward

12/23 weapon with 3 magic dmg, thats like 15/23.
The Warrior epic is only 14/24, ranger epic is 14/24 and 13/21. You've also got stats like Str: +15 Sta: +10 Agi: +10 Dex: +10 Wis: +10 Int: +10 Cha: +10 Magic Resist: +10 HP: +100 Mana: +100 AND +5% Parry. This would be near the lines of epic quality weapons although to be even be able to do it you probably already have an epic weapon. The only benefit that I can see is the Parry mod, +100 hp and 10sta.

I'd say the risk/reward is just about right.

To me its more the same people getting this kind of stuff in most guilds with any kind of a tier system. I've heard of few guilds where you'd go and get stuff like this then anyone who could use would roll.

I'm in a goofy tiered guild where you see people going "come on lets go do the ring thing", oh yeah, so you or three other people could get even better no drop loot than you already have.. sure.
I get very tired of the whole verant designed "the time of them many rewards the wants of the few" thing.

From the other stuff posted here its not just this item you are shooting for when doing the ring. Some of the other stuff is amazingly good, flowing thought III and stuff.
RE: Not risk vs reward so much to me as same people
# Jan 17 2002 at 2:46 PM Rating: Decent
Not that I agree with the tier system, but if we were in a "time" like that portrayed in EQ.. that is exactly the way it "was/is". The strong get stronger... period.

I personally would never be part of such a guild with that kind of "system". It is not why I play the game... though I understand why some poeple do things that way.. still dont agree.

RE: Risk V. Reward

Have to agree with Barneby here...

I can't believe that a Ranger of all classes would say this item sucks... especially since it's going to add 15 or so "soft AC" points with the parry bonus, plus the hps, mana, Str(=atk), Sta(=hps), Wis/Int(=mana), Agl(=2-4 more AC).

This is a very, very nice weapon... especially for a Ranger in the off hand if you have a faster/better in the Primary!

I could see this weapon being a problem for any melee who does not want agro, The damage or resist of the magic damage(aside from the melee damage being done) could buy more agro than a ranger would want. sort of like a weapon procing on every swing.
RE: Risk V. Reward
# Feb 04 2002 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
A little too much agro for a ranger, you are right there, but otherwise its near perfect. I'm not very close to raiding level and my stats aren't too high, but i see that this weapon has the stat modifiers that any ranger would want. It's weaps like this that make jolt a must :)

15/23 (with the magic dmg...) with +5% parry and an ASSLOAD of stat buffs sucks? agreed its not the best, but with all those other stats its atleast usable
RE: Risk V. Reward
# Jan 17 2002 at 12:53 AM Rating: Default
I think what he means is that the level needed to obtain this is ridiculous because at that level EVERY ranger should have his or her epic who is in a guild needed to do something of this magnitude. At that point, why switch out an epic weapon for this? Its not THAT great a ratio, and its heavy, and and and and....need I go on?
RE: Risk V. Reward
# Jan 17 2002 at 4:25 AM Rating: Decent
I think you totally underestimate the awesome stats which this axe adds ... its more than the whole epic together (apart from saves) and that helps a lot to do more dmg/proc better/more hp ...

Dont forget the absolutely awesome 100 hp and mana on that axe too. I would want one of those axes for my warrior after seeing it (and getting cut down by that boss in 5 secs ...). That parrying bonus is nice too ... at skill 230 that would mean 11.5 more points to it and thats quite a lot.

One of the ranger epics, Eathcaller, has a DoT/slow process. Rangers in heavy raiding guilds are asked, in some occasions, to put away their Earthcaller because of the extreme amount of taunt the proc causes. Also, the DoT will break any mez should the team have to switch targets.

This particular weapon, along with the Longsword of Ethereal Energy, are two of the best substitutes for the Earthcaller that I've found outside of the super high level ToV/VP drops, mainly for the sheer AC bump on both of them.

Also, for your viewing pleasure:

Earthcaller
Damage: 14
Delay: 24
Str: +15 Sta: +5 Dex: +10 Magic Resist: +5 Fire Resist: +5 Cold Resist: +5 Poison Resist: +5 Disease Resist: +5 HP: +50
Weight: 2.0
Weapon Skill: One Hand Slash Slot: Either Melee
Classes: Ranger
Races: Wood Elf Half Elf Human
Process: Earthcall (random)

If you add the 3 magic damage in, the Axe of the Warmaster has a better ratio, and the stats blow Earthcaller out of the water.

Also, the ranger epic quest is a harder one to complete that this dynamic war quest. It requires two separate plane raids and a relativly tough little part with Venril Sathir's remains, as well as many many other parts, where a guild can do this in a single night.

Earthcaller's a great item, but don't overestimate it. It's usefulness can definatly be outgrown, and this is a very very good substitute for it.

Merrikat,
ranger,
emarr.

i think your makign the ranger epic out to be alot harder than it really is. Im on TT server and you can get PoA stones MQed for 2k or less so you dotn even need to go to PoA, and even if you did its that that hard to get the stone. VSR is cake did him with one group. Jaeil the insane i did with one group. Inny is the only really hard part about ranger epic. And if you guild is killign this guy in RoF you cna easily dispatch inny. Our guild can go into hate and take out inny and all mini bosses and be ported back out in 4 hours or less. And if your lucky the emerald can drop off one of the mini bosses and you dont even have to kill inny

Yeah, but you've got to understand, VI don't do things that make sense.. Take 1HS and druids.. virtually every decent weapon a druid has that has WISDOM is a 1HB item and they make the epic 1HS.. Go figure..

I just checked.. there are 10 total listed 1HS with wisdom that a druid can use.. 9 excluding the epic.. 7 if you take out the newly introduced Luclin items, 6 if you exclude the Velium Blade of Superiority, which drops in ToV, and if it was given to a druid, then the raid leaders should be shot. Well you get the picture..

Perhaps this is the same, perhaps this is the one item beastlords get to train up 1HS for their epic. (Not that I know what their epic is.. just postulating)
