A lot of the zones listed didn't actually have wolves that dropped wolf meat. Wolves often drop "A Chunk of Meat" which is not the same thing. I had the best luck in the Commonlands with the Black Wolves. No luck at all in Direwind. (A lot of the wolves cluster near the South Inn btw.)

I've been leveling a necromancer in Nektulos, I have 200+ chunks of meat vs. maybe 15 wolf meat in that same time, from the same mobs. Black wolves and Shadow wolves (to a lesser degree, they were higher level to me for a while).

For the higher level zones... even if 1/100000 wolves drops the wolf meat then it would be flagged here once someone reported it.

With the advent of Planes of Power and their portals all over Norrath and beyond,
I say the best place to go for wolf meat is easier to reach: Everfrost Peaks.
Hop the Halas portal in PoK and use the area where you arrive as your base.
I have no idea why a white wolf is not listed as one of the critters that
drops this, but the "newbie zone" refresh rate on these is fantastic for
bakers farming for ingredients!
Don't get in the way of the actual newbie/low level players though. =)

I have been to most of the zones listed above farming for Wolf Meat.

In my opinion the best places to farm it are in Misty Thicket from the Shadow Wolves. However once we kill them all, there is some down time before the next spawns.

The best spot is in the Eastern Planes of Karana where it drops off Gorge Hounds.

In the other zones you have to wait for spawns and search around.

In EK there are a steady stream of Gorge Hounds in one area and if you put in an hour or two you can quickly stock up on Wolf Meat.

Hope this helps.

People will pay 100pp per stack of Wolf Meat because it is a pain in the neck killing wolves for it. I've spent about 4 hours in GFAY and EC and I only got 21 wolf meats. I agree that the price is ridiculous, but if you are rich and don't want to waste time killing wolves, you will pay it. If not,try doing an auction or OOC in the newbie zones to buy wolf meat. Try the vendors in the areas where wolves are located because newbies will sell the meat to vendors in the area.

It was a lot easier killing Mammoths in EW for Mammoth meat. Mammoth meat yields like 6 filets.

Both meats are needed for the Halas 10lb meat pie that will take you over the 200 mark on baking.

Wolf and Bear meat are found in Thurgadin... No lion meat on that vendor. Haven't checked SH vendor for lion meat... but so far lion and mammoth meat are the harder ones to come by (on Tarew Marr anyway hehe)

Why is wolf meat so valuable?

Mammoth meat and wolf meat are NOT found on vendors unless players sell it to them. Lion and bear meat, OTOH, can be purchased from regular vendors in Shadowhaven and perhaps Thurgadin. So wolf and mammoth meat are much more valuable to those making the Halas 10 lb meat pie, whether for use or for the popular Protection of the Cabbage quest.

This, along with mammoth, bear, and lion meats, can be baked into a Halas 10lb Meat Pie which gives +5 Dex, +5 Sta, +5 Agi, and +30 HP.

Wolf meat, like mammoth meat, makes 10 wolf in cream sauce, per unit of wolf meat. The merchant sold ones, only make 1 unit of ___ in cream sauce per unit of meat.

So, ot make 10 combines of halas meat pies (60 pies) you need 1 wolf meat, 1 mammoth meat, and 10 each of the lion and bear meat.
