You do not actually need the key to open chest. Did quest today and /open works just fine.

I did not need the striated key to open the striated chest.... just used /open and got orb! =)
I also got the Aendra's Note from her chest (Ralf Uthmier was already standing there when I entered room) and got Aendra's Note from Ralf after killing... now I have 2 inventory slots taken up with Aendra's Notes... doesn't seem to be a need for them and they are not identified in Item Lookup.

OK so whats the Key for ?
I second this question. Second to last thing I need from the game is taking up another inventory/bank/bag space. (Anyone know what this is for yet?) Did it or was it supposed to work in the lake on the chest ("waterproof") but didn't actully "go in game" so to speak - if so it would seem like the "developers" could bypass normal protocall and let us know on this one). Or maybe someone with an "in" could find out for us.

On the FV#1, Charges of Treason, there is a Striated Chest, which you need to open to loot an orb. Although the quest description does not show that you need the key to open the chest, logic (even if this is SOE) would dictate so.
