At least this shield doesn't look like every other ugly n00b shield. It has wooden gradients and a spike in the middle. But I question those who might want it, since I can't sell the darn thing for even 3pp in the Bazaar, but before that a high level guy in Shadeweaver's was paying me 5pp and then 10pp for each bloodling carapace. Go figger.
The carapaces are used in a Progressive Quest for the Smithing Tradeskill and once the first portion is complete (where you need these carapaces to make 2 shields) you will get an anvil to help in the Smithing of some nice armors (ShadowScream Armor).
He was buying for your time and effort so he could go on with the quest without having to spend the time himself kiling and looting.
I myself paid 10 and then 20 per to complete the 16 I needed to make 2 shields to get my anvil.

I just completed the quest. It took a LONG time to collect the Bloodling carcass...every time they would spawn 15-20 Ch'tk Bloodlings and only 1 might have a drop. You need to collect 8 so it took me aboiut 4 hours to complete it...

I did this quest also, and it took forever, i did it twice (total of 16 carpaces) and it took me almost 4 hours. The only thing it is good for is to turn it in to Master Barkhem and get the Large Bloodling Carpace Plate and use it to get the anvil and humming hammer for making Shadowscream mail.
yep. and this is used in new luclin plate armor. i've tested it. check out www.eqtraders.com

actually its a quest in shar vahl. go to the smith and buy a container that looks like the shield. you have to fill it with 8 ... beetle carapaces. they drop of some beetles (lvl 2-3) in shadeweaver near the city - then hit combine
