I posted a new image of this staff to show its unique beauty. Depending on your browser and settings, you may need to do the following to see it full size:

1. click the image thumbnail
2. when it shows the larger version, RIGHT-click and select VIEW IMAGE

This should produce a new screen with the full size image (604 × 347 pixels).

It is a nice weapon, I admit, but even so, why would a cleric use it, with absolutly no wis on it? Just my opion..
caster melee?

i have a 60 wizard and a 52 necro. neither one has done any melee since level 20 (that i can remember anyway). the necro hasnt even carried a weapon since he got zlandicars heart. the wizard has his epic but ive never even tried to melee with it.
Very Cool!

I just looted one of these on my enchanter last night on an akheva raid, from a shadow reaver. All i can say is Wow! this thing is extreamly unique (only seen one other my entire time playing eq) it is pretty much " a horn on a stick " its a staff with a large circle on the end with a horn tied onto it. It is large too, you will stand out quite a bit with it. Although there are probably better things for me to have in main hand, i will keep this one for a long long time. as for the meleeing thing... no i dont plan to melee anything higher then a lvl 20 mob or so, but just because it has damage/delay doesnt mean it has to be used as a weapon against all the things you fight. Very cool item, although i think a melee class would only take it as a "toy item" since there are lots of better weapons out there then 9dam 23 delay. let those casters have some cool weapons too =)

I sure dont meelee at 55, expecially concidering 90% of the mobs I go after hit for 2x 130+ and/or cast AoE spells. Anywho, it is a nice staff, I got one in a raid on Povar with my Guild Blades of law, a weeks after Luclin came out, I get tells and inspects every day, if not more "as that the mage epic?" hehe, feels good, yub yub

What about dragons and such... you have to be right under their bellies to land any spells... might as well swing while you're under there.

Remember, you never know who'll be the last man standing "oom"...

i am only 25 now, but i know for sure, that melee is a very important skill for caster too.
mostly when you are meming spells after death, or you were just buffing lowbies in some zone, and something attacks you, and you dont have gate, nore any mez or nuke memed, and pet is recycled, that you need to melee.
and for sure you can die very quickly, if your melee is bad, so to train it and have a nice weapon for it, can save you your life

OK who thinks caster can't Melee? Speak Up! Shamans, Clerics, Druids, Wizards, Enchanters, Necromancers, Magicians all cast melee buffs of one sort or another. Tell one of these classes that they can't melee when OOM and Mana Buffs are gone, and zone is too far away, poor tanks are dying and camping isn't an option. Chances are when a caster must melee a weapon like this can turn the tables in a combat. Sure we don't crit or backstab but that DS I just cast before I went OOM or the Shield of Words cast by a Cleric or the HoS from the Shaman are keeping you alive and killing the mob. So don't say a caster can't melee (heck I'm doing pretty good with my new Skull Shaped Sacrificial Hammer sure it's only 6/24 +2STR -15CHA and procs +25STR,-15DEX,HASTE so I attack 4x faster than normal AND has a Damage Absorption power), it's not that we can't it's just that we don't do it often. When OOM and Tanks are at 20% health(I'm not aggro bait)heck yeah I'll jump in and use the 20% heath tank as a DS of sorts. Besides I need to get my 1hb Max'd so I can use my Epic Bo Staff of Uber Petness.

Ummm. No, casters can't melee.

To give you a perfect example, take a 60 cleric with 1hb and bash maxed, using summoned Hammer of Soul (24dmg/18dly) and a shield.

On this sample cleric, while fighting an undead mob, in an average minute the cleric did between 436-513 points of melee damage, and between 411-627 points of proc damage.

So, using best case conditions, this caster did 1140 points of damage in one minute via melee.

In one minute, he could have meditated enough mana to nuke the mob twice for 1450 points of damage.

The only reason for casters to melee is when they are farming low-level mobs for tradeskill components.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with ya some. While it is more effective for any caster to nuke, on some rare occassions we do want to melee. Some of the weapons available to int casters are just uber awesome, and any tank would kill for one. Now, while on a blue server, melee'ing as an int caster on any raid is a good way to die real quick, but think of on a PvP server, these weapons make would be pk'ers think twice. For example: The Skull Shaped Wand, obtained during the RoF in AC, 20/20 1hb with +4 cold dmg, +5% evok, +5 to all saves, and procs Ice Comet, int casters only. ( PvP )Everyone knows all int casters are pretty much an easy kill when oom and medding for any melee capable class, but when the int caster has this, he actually stands a slight chance of saving his own butt by melee'ing. On a blue server, non-raid scenario, well if ya got a really good group chain pulling, and the mobs are dropping too fast to make any noticable difference by nuking, it is fun to get up there and throw out a few swings on the backside of the mob. Do it from the front and the ripostes will get your cleric mad at ya. So on a blue server, it is for kicks or farming, on PvP, you stand a slight chance of not being pk'ed.

I agree with Vymdraven, and as I said above a bit I melee anytime the group / raid is fighting a caster, and most of the time when I solo, I have Drakkel Wolf Claws, proc wandering mind, and a Knotted Wooden Mallet which procs a 50 point mana steal. And I cycle between the two. Also I can hit as hard as 70 with the mallet, but only like 30 with the claws.

So we don't just melee when farming. =)
Caster's Melee'ing?!
# Jan 04 2002 at 6:42 AM Rating: Decent
Many items coming out with Luclin that are more caster oriented items have +melee stats. I'm interested to see what caster-only haste items will be coming out. BTW the ratio on this weapon is pretty nice, no drop.. and 55+ hmm. Decent stats for a melee but there are better out there.

It's nice to see some caster items with melee bonuses on them, but at 55th, do many casters melee at all?

At 22nd, I almost never do, unless it's just to get in a whack or two at the start of the battle. Medding and blasting just has a FAR more effective result. The impression I've gotten from numerous boards is that the higher you get, the less you want to bother with melee. I've even been told that at my level, I shouldn't even carry a weapon, but another INT or mana buffing item instead.

Then again, with +6 INT, +35 mana, and a +10 magic save, this would fill that bill nicely. Perhaps the melee buffs come under the heading of, "it's better to have something and not need it, than to need something and not have it." :-)

I really like this weapon, but it doesn't seem so great for a 55+ drop, and I was disappointed in the lack of wisdom.

Please see -Pallid mace

This stick is nice for Enchanters.. BIG TIME. As well, it has a VERY cool graphic. Very unique. I actually sent this item in, and that's my screen shot up there. Hey to all my friends in Clan X on The Rathe!

Could ya maybe repost with a screenshot of it equipped? Nice to know that it has a "VERY cool graphic" and all, but a pic would be nice, too. :)

Well, I don't have a handy screenshot but let's say what it looks like. Unique hardly begins to describe it. It is a pole with a hoop at the end, with a horn suspended inside the hoop from what look like rawhide lashings. It is a very primative Shamanistic look to it and really is quite an eyecatcher.

Nah, I don't have one but a fellow Rogue was playing around and equipped it for a while. Damn was everyone asking wth it was.
