a good use for this quest

I would assume this quest would be good for some minor ammounts of plat.

If you are hunting the various things, just save the meat and ashes.

Next time you are in SS turn in the pieces get a couple of swords, sell them for a nice profit.
Sword not for use

OBVIOUSLY...if you can kill the zelnaik this sword has a 98.7% chance of just SUCKING to you, so OBVIOUSLY this quest is not intended to enhance your inventory. but the quest itself is not unreasonable...a few pieces of meat and you get a shiney new sword. the best use of this quest is a casual one. hunt the zelnaik for exp in dawnshroud, and just collect a few stacks of the meat while you do and when you got some downtime run to Sanctus Seru, turn em in and sell some combine swords to merchants for some cash...makes up nicely for the fact that zelnaiks don't drop cash, and then throw in some nice faction and a bit of exp (I'm not sure how the exp compares to killing mobs at lvls 30ish+ but hey! free exp is free exp). the NPC and the materials source arn't too far apart so it's hardly a inconvenience.
to sum up.....good passive quest

You are wrong. You can not get this sword with just a few pices of meat. If you read the quest info you will see you can't get the sword until you have 4 vampire ashes from maidens eye.
it's not all THAT bad

this quest does have one good point.. just turning in the meat. Get a bit of coin, and good faction, i'm huntin the zelniaks anyway for exp so when i get a bag of meat i just go and turn it in to pump up my ss faction.

This quest is horrible, that sword isn't even good for a lvl 10 warrior let alone 20. Besides, you won't be doing this quest at lvl 20. The whole point of people saying this sucks is because it's risk vs reward is WAY off. If you quest for something at lvl 60, you'd better get something of worth to at least a lvl 40, if not higher. Furthermore, if you quest for something at lvl 1, you don't get stuff of worth for a lvl 40 or higher. This quest is just off balanced, plain and simple.

Well, that would make it just about like every other weap/armor quest in EQ with the exception of a rare handful.
My main (human Ranger) was never twinked. From 4 to 8, I hunted in Steamfont for Kobolds, always came home with 100pp or so, a lot of that from selling Steamfont Springs Water. Hunted from 8 to 10 in Shadeweavers Thicket for Shadeling Silk and Rockhopper Hides.
After that it was the Warrens where the money flows.
By the time I was 20, I had bought all Ry'Gorr Armor, a Shaded Blade, a Centi Warhammer and a Nice Bow (Sedgewood, I think). Had all my tradeskills up to 100 and found the Etched Ivy and Trueshot Quests out of my league, still until I was about 30.
No problem because the micro-mini Ranger epic (if I can use that term) equipment was a joke compared to what I already had.
Felt cheated out of those quests. I could do them now, but to what end?
As long as you can buy gear from a Level 50+ who has too much of a good thing, these quests are always going to be dubious for the gear.
Do them all for the xp, gold and faction.
Forget about the gear. You've already got better anyway.

P.S. the secret is to search high and low for a zone where everything is DB to yellow AND drops cash OR needed tradeskill items. Gear up at bazaar. Sad but a fact of EQ life.

Twink-believer or not, this quest had better be for the faction and not the reward. Vampyres are tough for level 45+ toons, and many levels earlier it's possible to drop far better weapons. Unless this is just the beginning of a longer quest, it doesn't make much sense to me either.

Whether or not its better than rusty is questionable
RE: ick
# Jul 23 2002 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
its certainly better than rusty, but by the time you can get it (aka Kill Vampyres) youBETTER have better. Its on par with fine steel, and its magical, and it has the new Luclin Graphics, give it away to your local newb, or twink, or sell it for a pp or 2. certainly better than rusty though.
bad quest

For what you have to do this quest is probably one of the worst ones I have seen in EQ. the coeterie guys are not easy and unless the dust can be bought for a very little amount of money I do not see this sword being used by anyone very often , my 2 cents.

Ever loot?
# Jan 03 2002 at 1:13 PM Rating: Good
Ummm why do the quest? Well, the game is called Everquest not Everloot. I would rather spend 2 to 3 hours solving an in-gzme puzzle then sitting and killing the same thing over and over and over......and over. The sword my absolutly suck for a level 60 warrior, but for a level 20 warrior it might not be to shabby. Besides, they can sell it for a plat or two so what's it matter.

If you don;t like questing, fine, loot away, but I play to reduce stress from doing my job (which involves the same thing over and over and over and over....and over), so I am in it for the quests, even if the EXP sucks for completing it.

I like quests too. But some of them are laughable. This is one of those. The combine weapons you can buy from gypsies on Norrath make nice weapons for a level FIVE toon. For the level of player it takes to complete this quest, it's just pathetic.

Why is it a large portion of EverQUEST'S quests really bite the big one, but planar and ToV UBER MOB DROPS are really insanely good?

Seems to me, they don't want us QUESTING, they want us RAIDING.

Considering what you have to fight to get this as a quest reward, it pretty much sucks.

Hell, a Nathsar Greatsword (18/33 2hs) is readily available in EC for about 150 pp!

Why bother to get this?
