Yes, they still drop. I had 3 callers up trying to get my bardling his SoS cloak. I got 5 in the 1st hour. They are super useful for a cleric. I was pleasantly surprised when these dropped.

Seems Expensive

65pp seems a bit much to pay for a snare. Sounds great but as a lvl 44, i don't see me using it.

65pp? Cheap. On MT they were going for 5k a couple months ago. Outrageous!

[edit]

Hmmmmm, 65 pp is Definitely cheap! I camped this event for 6 hours today and got One gland to drop. Tons of the nifty Pod of Red Fungus (250 mana refill), obtained one Fungus Patch Vest and several Pod of Blue Fungus (100 hp heal). Now, someone please explain why it is that the Pod of Red Fungus would be non-Lore while the Pod of Blue Fungus Is Lore?! /boggle

Based on the amount of time I spent and the drop rate . . . I still don't think these are worth 5k. That's 500 plat per snare which is ridiculous as that's not even a half-hour of soloing, dependent upon the mobs. I saw one in the Bazaar on EMarr / MT for 20k . . . ludicrous, imo.

Basically, I wouldn't hold high hopes of stocking up on these in an efficient manner as the drop rate is simply too low.

Think about it from this perspective.

You're killing mobs, and a named spawns. Now you know the named will run on low health, and you don't want to clear half the zone to kill the mob.

What do you do?

Try snaring it? ;)
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 20 2005 at 4:21 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Most named mobs are immune to movement changes as a basic thing. I'd go as far to say 95% are immune to it at least at the level or higher of being able to get this item. There needs to be a way to recharge any item, period...

I used to keep one backpack full of items with spell effects I picked up along the way. Whenever I got into serious trouble and I realised there wasn't an escape as maybe mana was low, or my group was dead or the zone line was just too far away, I'd open this backpack as a last resort and look for something that could save me. Many times I cheated death this way, although this was more useful back when soloing was viable and the world wasn't covered in clerics.

For any class without a movement slowing spell (including roots and mezzes) or no speed boost, this item can quite possibly be the difference between life and death. It only takes up one slot, and you could one day find yourself in an isolated zone, with a mob at your heels, and a long ways to run...

Has use as a Mage life saver when using CotAM to charm elementals to solo in the Planes. Charm breaks, click snare, recharm, continue grinding insane AA xp solo.

situational usage
# Apr 18 2004 at 1:41 PM Rating: Decent
I used this to split the Wraith of a Shissar out of a gang of about 20 amygdalins from the temple in fear with my bard. Pulled them all out, HOS (magic resist debuff) and snare wraith, get some distance and fade aggro. Now all walk back to temple leaving wraith behind.
RE: situational usage
# May 12 2004 at 5:13 PM Rating: Decent
Wraith of Shissar is a "corpse camper" it stays put when you memblur wether or not it's snared, and will do the same if the memblur is a side effect of it killing you, Now this is a usefull item and anyone disagreees is too stupid for it to be explained to them so keeping that in mind, Forget what this item is usefull for and someone post the cast time please lol

"You only get 10 charges which unless you know some godly exp." 18% aa exp at the tables in PoF is worth the camp for me
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 16 2004 at 5:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, if this lvl 1 druid spell works on PoF Soldiers, I'll be amazed.

the use
# Oct 04 2003 at 6:43 PM Rating: Decent
well this item is a good item and would be usefull for kitter and everybody needing snare to get exp but who doesn t have the spell ( mages for exemple )
but this item is hard to get so it real use is occasional use ... like u about to die ,not have sow ,jboots or aa ,well snare the mob and run to zone line like someone said
i think it real use is really to keep agro if ure job is to get agro and keep it, on a raid most of the time .... aow ,ssra emp chamber mobs ,pop mobs for exemple ...
it rarity makes it being used on certain rare ocasions ,but i well agree if it wasn t that rare/hard to get ,it would be sold for cheaper and would definitly be used for exp ..... this isn t the case unfortunatly

good info, not crap
# Aug 13 2003 at 2:21 PM Rating: Good
ok guys listen up, enough with this crap posting like "wow now i can finally kite with my mage!" this item is not meant for that, this item is meant for if your lom/loh and your only chance of getting away is by runnin, its only 10 charges guys and anyone who uses it for fear kiting etc. needs to be slapped. got like 20 posts beneath mine and very few of them usefull so here is some good info on this thing. drops in fungus grove off about a lvl 48 mob that a mid 50s group can do, just get a well balanced group. 10 charges of snare yes thats right 10 charges of "oh **** im oom and sow just wore off, life saving power". the mob that drops this drops it every time as far as i can tell, dropped her 3 times in 3 hours. im on a pvp server so this thing goes for more like 10k since its so powerfull in pvp(well now it is ever since verant nerfed the resist tables so u can be rooted with 150mr=/). so far i have not found any way to recharge it and believe me i have LOOKED. saw post down below about guy who sold to vendor to recharge and vendor wanted 30k+, insane. works for crysallized pumice though.this item is also good for gettin agro as another person posted. slammin out 5 or so charges of insta-snare on the AoW would definitly put u high on his hate list. thats about all i got, been up for 36 hrs so i probly missed some stuff.
RE: good info, not crap
# Aug 19 2003 at 4:00 PM Rating: Default
Sorry, this item is NOT for when you are loh/lom. I can agree to the value on a PvP server, but the primary purpose on a blue server is to guarantee that MT can hold aggro. Snare is a big time major aggro gainer on a lot of PoP mobs, have your MT snare it, and never seem the MT lose aggro again.
Buy back cost?
# Jun 23 2003 at 11:45 PM Rating: Excellent
Does anyone know the buyback cost from a vendor to get a full re-charge?

EDITED > I bought one for 8500pp, sold to vendor to try for a recharge .. buy back price to re-charge is 31500pp for me .. so forget getting these and re-chraging via vendor .. waaaayyy too expensive.

Does anyone know the buyback cost from a vendor to get a full re-charge?

I figure Il need three of these .. two to use, one to sit in the bank so I can do re-charging.

Guess they are pretty rare, value will probably be around the 5k mark.

charges
# May 19 2003 at 8:13 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, stupid question. Can this thing be recharged back to 10 after all are depleted? Like one of the PoK gate necklaces? Just curious.
RE: charges
# May 22 2003 at 10:31 PM Rating: Decent
Highly doubtful, and I might also note that the PoK gate talismans are not rechargable either.. you have to either redo the quest or get the next in the series.
PvE? hell no
# Jan 30 2003 at 6:46 PM Rating: Default
Ya they might be good for fear-kiting, aggroing, whatever. Being a pally on a PvP server i'm going after these thing for the help they'll give me in PvP. Only classes that don't run are Warriors and Rogues, now the rest will be slowed and I will kill.
Okay, seriously...
# Nov 06 2002 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
How great is this item really? You only get 10 charges which unless you know some godly exp. area, 10 pulls isn't worth much for soloing or kiting. Unless you have a ton of these stored away, which I doubt since one guy spent 10 hours trying to get one and they sell for 5kpp, I don't see the use other than getting aggro or running to the zone as a couple mentioned.
RE: Okay, seriously...
# Dec 06 2002 at 6:19 PM Rating: Default
Would I pay 5k to be able to fear-kite 10 mature wurms in SF without having to rely on my short-duration darkness spells (NEC)?

Probably not, but I'd easily pay 500p, maybe 1k.

That's worth it for about two blue of experience which at my level (52) is what I'd get (if I hadn't switched to AA).

Agro Item

This is a tremendous agro generator for MT's. As druids and rangers know, and to some extent wizards and necros, snare is just about the quickest way to **** off an NPC. My guild's MT's use this item very effectively to gain and/or maintain agro on our raids.

Oh, and let me add, this right click is instant. A player (or MT) can pump 5-10 snares into a mob (such as the AoW) like a machine gun and gain agro consistently even after your first tank has died after the first 3-4 minutes of battle and was holding agro. Next up MT gains the agro away from the higher damage melees, nukers, clerics, etc which would normally be the high-end mob's next target.

# Jul 19 2002 at 8:05 PM Rating: Decent
ok this item is great for any class really but comes in real handy for use non-casting melees in pvp (rogue, monk, war) who have no way of stopping someone from running from u. now us pure melees can actaully stop those ppl from getting away...a must for anyone in pvp

The effect is nice, but the name is kind of disgusting.

IMO, one of the best uses for this would be to save for getting away from a fight you're losing, particularly soloing. Snare and run for the zone. Would come in handy for soloing Hill Giants and such.

Of course, throw in a pair of jboots, and any caster class can kite. Pretty cool.
