actually, I got some dark assasin just yesterday (9/24/02) and Bards can use it, as well as Moktor
Yay, they fixed this!

Verant "fixed" this situation by removing rangers from Moktor, removing bards from Dark Assassin, and adding bards to Moktor armor dropping in Umbral. Now bards will actually receive armor they will use in this zone. It only makes sense that bards get plate armor.
:-( Alas no plate for me

Sadly, I understand that rangers no longer get the opportunity to wear this fine plate looking armour :-(

I've been fighting in UP for the last week and the DA gear is still bard/ranger/rogue usable on Nameless.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 25 2001 at 2:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Okay, we all know how the "situational" equipment works...so...this gets me thinking...why did they even put this armor out? No bard after 50 will need this bad equip, seriously. Everyone over 50 should have at least plane or velious quested armor by now. That leaves people under 50... yet the gear will be degraded because they're under 50. This leads me the my final conclusion. Verant made this just to ***** with bards, and to try to impliment some shoddy new way to keep good items off lower level players.

Vicks,

You are looking though tunnel vision glasses at luclin, based on the way you and your friends/guild play EQ. This armor is real nice for people like me who are 50+ but rarely have the time to spend all freaking day on a planar or kael/ss raid in hopes of getting MAYBE one piece of WS or a quest drop. This stuff is common, so someone like me with only a few hours to play at most can get some armor that is better than my ravenscale that I am still wearing at 52. I happen to enjoy luclin very much and I appreciate what Verant has done for those of us who cant sit at our PC for 10 hours at a time playing EQ. Be mad all you want because YOU didnt get what YOU wanted from Luclin, but dont flame VI. They are doing things to make the game more playable for a greater number of people, not to make it perfect for you and your little band of uberites.

Wurdipus,

We're not saying this equipment is bad for rogues, in fact, it's fairly decent (or really good for some pieces) for the risk for rogues. But for bards, the Dark Assassin armor is no better (in fact, most pieces are worse) than Hate Imbrued Platemail. Bards were stuck getting the same armor as a chain class, when instead, we should be getting plate equivalent.

I have really enjoyed Luclin so far, I think it's Verant's best expansion yet, but I'm disappointed by the Umbral Plains armor drops.

WIS?

I thought Bards were INT-Based...aren't they? well? And what would a Rogue need WIS for?

i thought bards mana never went down thus it didnt matter anyways ?

aside from that... verant randomly sticks stats on everything. its not uncommon to find a stat on a class specific peice of armor that a class has no "real" need for.

just as an example shaman totemic armor (mid level quest armor) has wisdom on only ONE of the peices, the rest are differnt stats.

For the same reason all other classes want it, Learn skills quicker and resist spells better.
Probably rogue only

I honestly don't see a lot of bards wanting this helm, Singing Steel is too easily available.. Resonant from Thurgadin is also a better choice than this, and should be within reach at lvl 50.

Yes, it looks like bards and clerics are getting screwed in the armor from Umbral Plains. WAR, RNG, SHD, PAL get Moktor armor (this is the one that bards should be in), BRD, ROG get Dark Assassin, Int casters get Dream Weaver. Folowing this formula it looks like MNK, BST get one, and CLR, DRU, SHM get one.

This armor will be lacking in AC for both bards and clerics, since they are plate classes, getting chain equivalent (when compared to the other classes) AC. Rangers and druids will probably make out real well AC-wise (rangers getting plate comparable when they're a chain class, and druids getting chain comparable when they're a leather class).

The Dark Assassin pieces are not better than bard Hate armor, even though they are supposedly "Recommended level of 50", and you can get Hate armor starting at 46.

The only thing useful on this helm (compared to Imbrued helm from Hate or SS Helm) is the bonus to poison save, which would only be used in very specific encounters.

"The only thing useful on this helm (compared to Imbrued helm from Hate or SS Helm) is the bonus to poison save, which would only be used in very specific encounters."

Which, if you do or don't remember, is what Verant was trying to go for in this expansion: Make more situational equipment.

A little too situational? Yes...Just a bit, and I wouldn't carry an extra helm around that had less AC and less stats than my other helms just for 8svp.. What am I supposed to do? Collect a bag full of helms just for diff situations? Another bag of boots, another bag of bps, another bag of weapons, another bag of instruments? I'm sorry bozo, but you've got it wrong... No, unfortunately this has nothing to do with situational equipment (and if it is it's a pathetic attempt at it, since the risk vs reward is not worth it AND who cares about 8svpoison? We have svpoison/svdisease songs that can throw our saves into unreal numbers as it is. No smart bard would EVER, and I say this with all my word, NEVER waste inventory space on a POS like this.

Bards got the shaft, F U Verant
