sorry, I see monk item alot soo I thought we bards could get a chance once in a while. I must say the stats on the Assassian Armor series is very Bard friendly. most of it has Char along with Agi and Dex stats pretty up there. Plus the Stam and Str are VERY handy. The saves are always nice. Not saying any of that isn't ranger or rogue friendly but the Charisma really helps us bards. =)

On a side note, I have looted the Bracer, The boots, the arms and finally the Chestplate this evening but these blasted Legs are RARE. Most of the other peices I've seen drop a few times, but the legs are RARE!!!! @_@ ugh back to UP for another few days.

hehe heh kinda funny to see a Bard in all yellowish gold armor (chest arms, wrists, boots) and blue Lambant Legs!

These are supposed to be a common drop?? Is this in proportion to the other armour that DA's drop, it must be, because in all the time I've spent in Umbral, I've only ever seen 1 piece of DA armour drop and that was the legs (which I looted and are still wearing, the God's I implore you send me unadorned chain leggings SOON!). I've seen about 2 or 3 hundred of these Dark Assasins die and only seen one piece of armour drop. Is it just me or is this armour uber rare?

Depending on the Race, the color changes slightly. On my Half-elf bard, its yellow-ish gold in tint very similar to midlevel cleric armor. But on Wood-elfs its darker in tint, closer to Mithral like xsis said. BTW, yes it is strange seeing a rogue and ranger in plate. heh

it also depends if you use old models or Luclin models. When I'm in half elf form with old world models, the DA/DM gear makes me look like a bard:
http://www.eatricezone.com/eq/halfelf.jpg

I normally don't wear the helm, bracer, and chestplate. I keep those in the bank for CR gear; I slapped them on just to see what I look like. I should've looted the gloves when I was fighting in UP..

when I'm in my normal halfling form, they look similar to the mithril greaves or crystal chitin. When I'm in iksar illusion, the look isn't as 'smooth' but it's still silver. They look better than the heavy dragonleg breeches I replaced them with (greenish/blue).

This was my second trip to UP. The first time none of the DA gear dropped. The only DA gear that dropped this trip was the greaves. Exp is excellent in this zone!

I've seen the legs on a wood elf ranger in EC a few days ago, they look like silver plate. kind of odd for a rogue to wear shiny armor 8) oh well more for us rangers hehe

Under lvl 50 Stats

OK, I hope this message will clear up some of the confusion out there.

I was fortunate enough to loot this item at lvl 39. There were no other rogues and bards on the raid I was on.

I am now lvl 40, and at both levels the stats are as follows:

AC12 (reduced from 15)
STR4 (reduced from 5)
DEX4 (reduced from 5)
STA8 (reduced from 10)
+1 to all resists (surprise!)

It only showed the AC change when I viewed the item, not the others. I was not able to compute the change to hp since hp goes up when STA goes up, and I was too lazy to figure out another way. Not as important as the others anyway.

I'm jumping to conclusions here, but it appears that the effective stats follow this equation:
(char lvl / 50) * the stat (probably rounded).

(40/50) * 15 = 12

I'll keep you updated as I continue leveling.

My previous post seemed correct. The stats gradually increased as I moved up in level, always rounding up.

For this item at least, I get the full stats at level 49, probably due to rounding.

Personally, I think that the new "Recommended Level" is just like the other item restrictions: class, and race. If you're not small, you can't wear a dwarven ringmail tunic. If you're not large, you can't wear trakanasaur hide armor. If you're not a ranger, you can't wear etched ivy armor. If you're not level 50, you can't wear this breastplate.

That's just what I think, anyway...

Anybody out there that's under level 50, and looted some of this armor, and was able to equip it? If so, speak up, and prove me wrong so I'll stop thinking I'm right. :)

I looted a pair of these legs when I was 48 and the ac on them was reduced to 13 and the stat plus's were a little lower, I was also able to equip them.

Recommended level items are equipable by lower level characters, except in the case of a weapon with a recommended level. All armour with a recommeneded level that I have seen is eqippable at levels lower than the recommended one.

Any level can equip a RECOMENDED level item, including weapons. They just won't get full stats.

Now, REQUIRED level items require you to be that level to even equip them.

I saw a pair of legs on a merchant with Recommended level of 50,to my lvl 10 bard the ac was red and a 2 but had a 9 in parenthesis next to it so I'm guessing until lvl 50 you do not gain the full ac. So you can wear it at lower lvls but you won't get the full defensive properties. Hope that helps!

Lol! The name of the zone is The Umbral Plains, not the Umbral Plane. Maybe you should remove "scholar" from your name.

Hmm, it IS tough to work out what this recommended level thing is about. Certainly the 'anti-twinking' thoery doesn't hold water...how can you twink with no drop gear?
Tenre's theory seems to be the most likey imho, so that's what I'll be working on for now.

Anyway, back on topic, the Dark assassin armor looks like some nice rogue armor (yeah yeah, bard too:)). Anyone care to run a comparison with OS rogue armor?

A good comparison for this is the Woven Shadow armor that comes from Hate. For the most part this has one higher AC point, but lacks in stats.

The DA gear is much better than the gear from Hate. Here's a leg comparo:

Woven Shadow Greaves
AC: +14 Agi: +5 Wis: +5 Disease Resist: +10

Dark Assassin Greaves
AC: +15 Str: +5 Sta: +10 Dex: +5 Cha: +6 Fire Resist: +5 Poison Resist: +5 Disease Resist: +5 HP: +15

I could careless about the ac/str/cha but the extra 65 HP I get from this PLUS resists is what anyone that does HoT or any raid with aoe spells would want. The 5agi, 5wis from the woven shadow won't do me any good ROFL.

how can you twink with no-drop stuff? quite easily, just camp your twink out in the zone and log to him to loot something that dropped when you kill something ith your main

whats this? this is new to me, what is the "recommended level of 50" within the item description? . .. is this a new way of hiding a proc on an item til you hit the level where it procs perhaps?

"Recommended level of xx" means that if a character that is a level that is lower than xx the item's stats are reduced, ie the ac and stat bonuses are reduced in relation to how much lower than level xx the character is. This applies only to armour with "Recommended level of xx". Weapons with this statement aren't equipable by character who are not at least level xx. I hope this clears things up for everyone.

I looted the Dark Assassin Chestplate last week, and it still says Recommended level of 50 (I'm level 59 Rogue). So no hidden proc or effect that I can tell on these items.

Chestplate was AC: 27, Str: +10, Dex +10, Sta +10, HP +15, Weight 7.5

Same classes/races as other items, also no drop.

Zone in for umbral is ok, but aggro is screwy on wanderers at times. Tough mobs that take awhile to kill for poor exp reward, not exactly a spot that is rewarding to hunt as compared to doing lots of easier blues elsewhere. Just my opinion.

no man i think it's more like the club of the ice ocean where you have to be at LEAST level 50 to even be able to wield it, so this is their way of making that obvious, because anybody of level to even GET this item will be 50+ no doubt about it, so if it was your hidden proc idea it wouldnt be hidden but it would be shown.

Just curious why you think you would have to be 50+ to get it? Granted, I have not yet been there, but the this zone is not blocked like the planes. Anyone could walk in and loot an item (with proper escort).

The hole is a good example of a VERY tough, high level encounter area where a level 1 char can walk almost without care. (halfling rog of brell = good faction there) So that level 1 char _could_ loot anything that drops for the mains.

EDIT: i have been there now. The trip is easy with invis, just run across ME and con the critters before you run next to them (some see invis). Any char with invis and a sow could do it. Once in the zone, just sit there at the zone. It appeared that most of the dark assassins see invis as did some of the cavemen. However, on BB this is not a busy zone. Sometimes there are large raids or a zone group, but this is very seldom the case. Been there 6 times, only twice was anyone in the zone before we got there.

Actually, I wouldn't say the Hole is a good example of that, sure, a lvl 1 hlf rogue can walk around and dance with many of the mobs, i think still kos to undead and possibly rats though, i forget..but there really isn't much armor that a lvl 1 rogue would need or be able to get from the hole, unless he was ninjalooting a groups stuff, because most is either droppable, or not rogue useable. Actually, I can't think of a single regular item drop that isnt droppable from there. The epic quest parts in there are no drop, but that doesnt really count. However, you can do the shiny things quest there, but I have heard that you dont get the reward as often if your low level.(Turn in an smr and get a shiny robe of the underfoot, like FBC but far cooler looking)
Icewell Keep is a much better example of this, or maybe KC to a lesser extent. No one is kos there to start, and there are almost always noobs there to pick up the planar quality, or close to anyway, frosted velium armor there.

/sigh

I only used the Hole as an example of one particular place where a low level char could go and loot items that they could not fight for. It was merely the first place that came to mind. And the only reason it came to mind is that we use a level 1 brell rogue for CRs in the hole. It had nothing to do with loot tables.

Yes, IK and KC are good examples as well and it further emphasizes my point. You dont have to be at the "recommended level" to be in the zone and get the item. I got a jarjar BP, gloves and bracer from KC at level 9 with my ikky shaman. The stuff was rotting and i sat at the zone until someone said come loot it. I did one ooc to find who was camping what, then sent a direct tell to let me know if any dropped that i could have. I did provide SoW for any who asked, so I kinda worked for the stuff.

As far as I understand, the Umbral Planes are NOT like Plane of Fear, Plane of Hate, Plane of Growth, and so on... This zone would be like any other...
