This falls under trivia more so than genuinely useful knowledge, but this can drop from the wizard 1.5 epic mob Hobgoblin Horrorfiend in the far north section of the cave. So if you're having issues getting the drop like I was for an alt, it might be worth downing him real quick.

This is my second day mass killing for the tusks and nothing. I killed yesterday outside of the tunnel an today I am trying inside the tunnel and no luck as of yet. Darn this thing must be super rare.
Update : 4 days of killing and I finally got my terror tooth yay! I chose to kill the Goblins outside (rather than in the cave) today and I got it. If you are having a hard time with it just sit tight and try not to lose heart, it's not something easy to get apparently. Best of luck to you all!

Drops off hobgoblins in the middle cave of the three uppermost caves in the north part of the zone. There are about a dozen hobgoblins in there and almost every single one dropped a tusk. Drop rate is greater than 75%.
I killed numerous hobgoblins outside the caves and in the cave tunnels, without a single drop.

Right on ... killed about 100 no luck ... read your post ... bing 4 out of 7 from that cave had one.

I swam into the cave and began killing may way through, I did not see a single drop until I worked my way into the southwestern most cave, at which point I killed 3 gobs and got 3 tusks. I suggest starting there if possible. :)

Cleared everything near the entrance 3-4 times...then pulled everything from the farthest back cave and had 7 drop in however many mobs spawn in that area. Luckily there were 3 of us doing the quest, so only 4 rotted.

Well over 6 hours into this camp, off and on. Have tried outside, in caves, deep in, and at entrance. Just bad luck on RNG I guess.
took 4.5 hours for me to get this item. i was in the caves pulling 20+ more at a time. Damn that sucked but glad its over with
In caves, also drops the collector's tooth.

My collectors hobgoblin tusk dropped from "a hobgoblin" outside of the hobgoblin caves. most of the posts here all say inside the cave but i wanted to confirm they can drop outside of the cave.

I hunted near the entry to tunnel for an hour and nothing - moved in to second 4-way intersection after someone else got theirs and had two in 15 minutes... seems that location is everything on this one...
