I seen it mentioned several times that a 250 + a geerlok will give a skill of 263 or so...

Not true. Remember! The net adjuster level of ANY skill regardless of bonuses cannot go above 252.

IN actuality, if you have a geerlok, you are a grandmaster at 240 (+12 for geerlok making 252)...

That helps a lot because the last 10 points of a skill can be horribly drawn out and difficult / expensive, to get!

O.k, this raises you JC by 5%. So if i'm at 200, this raises it to 210?

If this is the case, say I choose to create a Gold Ruby Ring which trivs at 207. Will I get the message saying "you can no longer increase your skill with this item"? Or will it be trivial, but still let me increase my skill level?

I realize that this will improve succes rate on higher end items. What I want to know is if this is helpful to increase skill level.

The only time you want to use these +5% or higher items for tradeskills is when you're making say armor or jewlery for someone and you dont want to waste your money. When you're trying to get your skill higher do not use it, because you get less skill increases and what not.
Hope that helps.

No, sorry You are absolutely wrong. The gemsetter or any geerlok for that matter will not decrease you chance of a skill increase (nor will your "increased skill" make higher items trivial). It is the same, and the increased "skill level" will make failures much less common.

The only reason(s) you shouldn't use a geelok is:

1. You are already a Grandmaster and have your trophy (sell the geerlok... skills bonus will not stack and even if it did you skill cannot go above 252.)

2. You don't care much about failures and money is no real object. If that is the case, instead of the geerlok, use a nice Int bonus item in your primary hand (I say Int, because MOST people trying to GM jewelry will be chanters).

No, you won't get less skill increases. Rather you'll get mosre successes so skilling up is cheap...so always use it

All Geerlock devices triv at 215.

While skilling up, I spend (on average) about 1.5 hours in Paludal Caverns per 30 Belts of Leathery Fungus Flesh, the dropped component needed for the Planing Tool.

Small Pieces of Acrylia, the drop for the Smithing Hammer, are pulled off Grimlings at the rate of 5/hour. These small pieces are also used in the Luclin studded/reinforced Tailored armors, making them even harder to come by.

Chitterling Barbs, for the Tailoring device, are VERY hard to come by. I've found ONE Chitterling in 4 hours of stomping around Shadeweaver's Thicket.

If you'd like one of these tools made, I suggest farming the droppable ingredients in advance. On a personal note, VERANT!!! PLACE SHADE SILKS ON A FREAKING MOB PLEASE?! I'd like to try some of the new recipes you put in your game.

This item adds an "unseen" 5% of your skill to your current skill while it's equipped. So there's no real benefit until you have passed a skill of 75ish.

Jewelcrafting of 75 = a skill bonus of 3.75 (total of 78.75)
JC of 100 = bonus of 5 (ttl of 105)
JC of 150 = bonus of 7.5 (ttl of 157.5)
JC of 200 = bonus of 10 (ttl of 210)
JC of 250 = bonus of 12.5 (ttl of 262.5)

now, I don't know about you - but a skill buff of 12.5 (rounded up or down) is a huge difference... at least from my experiences at jewelcrafting.

I will say that 2k is a fair price for the Gemcutter.

Not so. You can never exceed 252; it's a hard coded limit.

I have an Enchanter (gnome) that tinkers. I was able to make these at 123 skill (quite luckily actually). They have been proven to NOT be trival at 205 skill by some other gnomes I know. I have a feeling they are not trivial at 250 even, similar to the Velious stuff, combined with a hard time getting components and then you have a fairly expensive item.

For example - I spent 4 hours killing things for this with my ranger and got 30 tries at it, then I had to run and buy the tinkering parts in Katta for it (only place that sells them) and THEN get them to my gnome, and have her fail 28 out of 30 times (yes, I did make 2- lol - which was against the odds).

Just bought one of these for 1500 pp and a Ring of the Frost Spiders I was selling for 500 pp. So 2K total. I am 193 in jewelry and nearing platinum so I figure the +5 % bonus, whether it is on successes or skill increases (or both), will end up saving me quite a bit more than 2K pp. The seller told me you need at least a 170 in Tinkering to make this. Can anyone verify? Any additional info on this item would be appreciated. It does NOT, by the way, add to your current skill, at least not on the stats screen.

It doesn't affect your skill increase or success rate, it affects your skill directly. So if your JC was at 250, one of thee would make it 262 or 263, basically its for (at least this is the only thing I can see it for) making the not-trivial-at-250 Velium and imbued stuff have a higher success rate

Anyone can make this actually. Everyone has a tinkering skill of 0 if they'll never get the skill. You can make anything from 0 skill, but you won't be happy with your success rate :)

170 skill would certainly give you a better chance to make this, I don't believe the trivial is known for these items though.
