Whoa there big guy, don't know how you come by your information, but you're way off. It's a simple matter to go from 0 - 210 in lock picking in a matter of a few hours. First pick the locked door in Befallen from 0 - 200, this took me about an hour and 20 minutes. Once you've hit 200, run over to Paineel and pick the entrance to The Hole from 200 - 210, that took me about 45 minutes. Easily done one day after work while waiting on my wife to come home so we could go out to dinner.

Rogues don't stop at 201.

I got my rogue to 206 picking the hidden door in the sky in Plane of Tranquility.

Aye . . . dropped in the fort in the lake this date as well.

Actually, I pulled it to the shore, but she came from the fort. Dropped only the gauntlets; hadn't expected it to drop so soon; didn't have my rogue camped in zone yet . . . /cry

Oh, well. Next time.

Yes these still drop, I was hunting in ME with a couple friends and someone shouted that these were rotting on a corpse ... I couldnt make it there fast enough to loot them. I was told that they are an uncommon drop.

At level 40 I trained Pick Locks to 200. Then used a Mechanized Picks to open the door in North Freeport.

you can only use one Mod% like if you have this and a +3% item, you would have a +3% mod only

I dont know about posts POP what the skill max is, but after 51 you can get your skill to 210 lock picks, most rogues stop at 201 for some reason, minimum effort I suppose. Well if you get your lock pick skill to 210, put on these gloves, and then get a set of tinkered lock picks you will be able to pick the locks in Ssra Temple which I beleive require 215 skill, could be off on this, but thats what we used em for before.
VERY lucky!

I was helping camp the Black Charcoal on Toiler hill with a guildmate when as I'm logging off, I get a tell "Forhal's Gauntlets - 25AC rotting on corpse at front Fort ent if you want". I did a double take since I only heard rumors of these VERY nice gaunts for bards (ok, and rogues). Casted uber bard sow.... went inviz and flew over to the corpse.... Looted and now I'm one VERY AC happy bard.
BTW thanks whoever you were. =) made my evening

I was very happy to have looted these with my 38 rogue. He and a grp of 50 killing Xin Thall Centien's and killing Xi Xiau's. A belt dropped - then an earring and then the gaunts. I was the only BRD / ROG person there so i got to loot them. I went to the freeport bank the next day with a PL skill of 195 and it opened the door.

Nothing, it's just a place to lure newbs into and lock em away. "Here newbie newbie, theres phat l3wts behind them there doors lemme open it for you." SLAM! "Ooops you can't get out now. Better petition." Stupid newb joke... I wished they take that damn door out of the game already.

Just to be clear, %skill mods weren't working before, now they do. This just increases your skill... with mechanical picks, I opened the freeport bank door at 39.

I believe the 2% increase is only for learning purposes. If you have these gloves and are picking locks, there is a 2% increase to your chances of skill going up. Can't imagine what else it would be for.

nay it modifies your picklock skill.

a 100% would become a 102%

wont work

As a rogue of 50th lvl and 200 PL skill i went to the bank in NFP to try my luck at this door. I had purchased a set of mechanized lock picks from a gnome i heard selling clockworeks somoe time ago, and wanted to see if the 2% that these specialty picks afforded me had any effect. To my dismay the door still remained un-pickable. I tried for a few minutes, turning the handle this way and that and pushing real hard and cursing alot, but the door didn't budge one inch. When I haad fianlly achieved my Rake-dom (lvl51) i returned to NFP with my new skill at 201, the door easily opened to my skill.
So what this means? There are some class skills that are totally based on your skill lvl, and no amount of +% is goin to help. Maybe if you had 50 of these +2% items you would have enuf for one point, but as the gloves and Mechaninzed are the onyl two i have seen so far, looks like a lost cause. So your best bet for unlocking that door in NFP, get to 51.
I have heard there is a door in Shazzrah Temple (sp?) that has a door with a 210 lvl limit. and i want to get back there (kitty illusion mask) prolly have to spendsome time in NFP practicing thou.

Will work -- did the same thing, at 39/200: door opened with mech. picks and didn't without them.
Can't explain why it didn;t work for you but it did for me.

the freeport door has nothing behind it but a guard, it was a normal door back when EQ started all they did was make the door locked. so ya get nothing but to see the guard. there is also a really hard door to pick in Cab and there is a half elf maiden, no idea what she is for but she is on beta N faction, /shrug

Most locks that are in significant places require 201 skill to pick. You can get your 200th point around lv 40 (not sure), but you cannot gain the 201st point till you ding 51. It would seem that this item would let you pick a 51+ door BEFORE you are 51!

On the other hand, you probably won't have a chance to get this legit before you're 51, but since it's a nodrop with strict class restrictions (think Mask of Deception/Guise of the Deciever) you may be able to beg loot rights if you're lucky...

OK - have more info now

Came into Freeport still at level 50 with a lockpick skill of 200 and was unable to open the door to the bank vault. I suspect that any bonus applied to the lockpicking skill does not occur until after level 50 (201+ skill), making the modiefier useless at this point. Maybe they plan to introduce doors with a higher skill than 201, but for now I think there are none higher (correct me if I'm wrong here).

I got a Cheirometric Lockpick Device (+3%) and a set of Mechanized Lockpicks (+2%, called Mechanical Lockpicks on Alla) for my 40 rogue and tested the Freeport Bank door at various skill levels.

(I was using the locked door in the basement of Hallard's Resales for skill ups at this point... I got my skill to around 100 in Befallen before I remembered this one. It's a much shorter trip from EFP to NFP than getting to/from Befallen, especially if you can cadge a Scale of Wolf).

At 192 skill, could not open while wearing CLD & using MLP
At 195 skill, COULD open while using both; could NOT open with either alone.
At 196 skill, COULD open using CLD alone (+3%); could NOT open with MLP alone.
At 198 skill, COULD open it using either CLD or MLP.
At 200 skill, could open with either, could NOT open without using one of the 2.

So, this shows that the 2 different +lockpick items do add together SOMEHOW, but not in any very obvious way.

I may be able to confirm or deny this...

I was fortunate enough to loot a set of these gauntlets the other night at level 50. I will be heading in to train lockpick after hitting 51, but before I do I'll go have a crack at the bank door in Freeport. Stay tuned.

I like the thought, I would check out the safehouse web site though for what they think. However what I think (no I don't know at all) is that the 2 percent isnt a modifier to your skill level.. But that at skill x when you had ypercent chance of opening lock z, you now would have ypercent+2 chance.. not affecting your skill as such.

That wouldn't be it. Pick Lock is an auto Success skill. If the Lock is rated at 201 and your skill is 200 You have no Chance to open the door. Once you hit 201 Skill can always open that door. So there is no "Chance" to open a door, you either can never open the door or you always can open the door.

Unfortunately us humans make assumptions without fully researching or considering possabilities.
The interior freeport bank door can be opened at skill 200 with mechanised lockpicks - I have done it (wish I knew the date, but don't recall - patches oft times change things, some intended, some not, many unnoted in the patch message. Many here say they think, or they even have tried with these gloves and it won't open - conclusion? - mayhaps the gloves aren't working and therefore the deductions about lock pick mods in general is not accurate - have fun; test itmes out yourself, send bug reports etc. Applying logic or guessing in this game over the years has proven inaccurate time and time again, which is more confusing than helpful to any who come here looking for bonafide info. Bottom line: skill mod on tinkered mech. lockpicks exceeds 200 cap under 51, on the day accomplished -- freeport "vault" door sucessfully opened by 39 Rogue.

Unfortunately, this seems to be exactly what it is doing. At the SH many of us have tried to figure out uses for this kind of item and have come up blank (expect of course for the 25AC in this case).
