Metal bits are made with smithing tradeskill. Combine two [2]small pieces of ore with a flask of water in a forge. this is trivial at 18 and can be stacked.

Part of the quest to make the buckler of the recruit is to combine it with 3 metal bits ...what are the metal bits . or do them mean to use 3 pieces of ore. thanks Faques,Khala Dun recruit
