Once someone has shown me what the shadow counting book makes, I will give them this simple secret. The chain can be reconfigured in such a way that it stays flexible, but the reconfiguration sets another spot for a piece of faycite. I have not found any faycite that will work, but perhaps they will. The configuration will not stay unless a gem fits and binds it. They simply need to scribe the pattern on the back of this note to find out how to do it. Additionally an uncut demantoid will need to be crushed into the chain in order to give it the proper movement.
