Does this mob summon and does it cast? does it have melee procs?
RE: caster
# Apr 30 2003 at 12:51 PM Rating: Good
Doesn't cast, and doesn't summon, doesn't have a melee proc that I know of. Soloed easy with my 56 druid.
got mine
# Jan 16 2003 at 4:53 PM Rating: Decent
well Ive been hunting in the Grey for about a month and a half now. Let me just start by saying Im a 54 Druid and this place is great for soloing named mobs here and aquiring some decent loot to sell or use. 1. Heirophant Skelly...(bone handled scimmy, BBB, and some decent melle necklace) 2. Boulder lvl 55 easy kill drops a nice staff for int caster that can easily be sold for 5-8k...invis and spring the three traps in the NE corner of zone, and eventually he will pop, he also drops an okay axe (staff is way better) 3. Stonehand (another rock guy) Drops nice Rogue weapon and a fairly decent 1hb club, same thing applies as with boulder, spring the traps in the NE corner you'll eventually find him

Grazen
# Sep 04 2002 at 4:27 PM Rating: Good
Well, I've spent the last four months and over three levels living in The Grey and saw Grazen a total of 8 times. Twice I had him snared but had to egress due to adds. By the time I came back another drood had him:(. Managed to get the scimitar off him 3 times and the necklace twice. The last time I saw him was today just before the server was scheduled to go down.....and he finally had the Buckler. Of course I had adds when I pulled him so I snared him then egressed thinking that by the time I got back he would probably be in the clutches of another druid.... but not the case this time, phew. There he was, all on his own up against the northern zone wall where I left him....and I had 4 bubbles of manna:). I finally got the shield..... For those of you who really want it bad enough and don't want to spend 10 or 12 k, just hang in The Grey. Kill skels, skells and more skells and sooner or later the Heirophant will pop. When he does spawn he can always be found in the northeast corner just beyond the mounds.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 12 2002 at 5:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you're just going for the wisdom this thing is not worth it. Get a Testament of Vanear, same wisdom and 45 less mana. Very easy to get. Or get a Charred Guardian shield. 1 less wisdom, but then again most higher level priests have over 200 wisdom. However, if you tend to agro a lot or make yourself encumbered, this is a very good shield
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 16 2002 at 1:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Thanks for your 2cp. Take it back, buy a clue with it. Most people who can get this shield are far beyond the point where they'll be using charred guardian or Testament. Especially for druids who want a shield in seconday and don't feel like doing Bane Warding quest or can't take out Woushi for Tanglewood, this is a great secondary slot item.
RE: Wisdom
# Mar 12 2003 at 8:54 PM Rating: Default
I agree with diepen, im a lvl 52 druid, i sprang through 44-51 in under a week, but even at lvl 44 i had 237 wis, i now have considerably less wisdom. why? simple, i went for stuff with mana adds and resist over stuff with gobs of wisdom.
I noticed this strand while looking for somethine to replace my testament and just thought id put in my 2cp.
Now im looking for stuff that looks nice lol, ive got my wis to the point where i will never need more, and im just sick of this ugly book and the ugly totem graphic on my paw of oppola.
If you truely want to spend a week or more camping something for an upgrade (and your a druid) forget a shield for the moment, or a scimi, and go get yerself some elysian armor, elysians are not hard, learn how to pull them and start soloing, i could solo them at 51, they were red but have crappy resist, and if you can't solo them yerself, find a partner who already has part of the suit and when something they already have drops its yers and vice versa.
I managed to get a Complete set(yes that includes the bp) in 2 days, from what i hear that was crazy good luck, but it still shouldn't be all that hard if you have any dedication at all to your druid.
RE: Wisdom
# Jun 12 2003 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
I agree with Rainstaff: I just got this shield and what your saying doesn't make much sense you want to go with stuff with extra mana? Well this shield has +55 mana, you can't do much better then that on your secondary slot. As far as killing elysians solo at 51, even with es vam's it must take an hour or so to do that. You need WD to kill elysians, I hear people talk about soloin Elysians pre Winged Death, but thats just lots of time being consumed IMO. Your right about getting elysian armor, the tunic is awsome to have.

Abother thing you said that makes little sense is you are sick of your paw and book but you say dont waste time on shield and scimiter, well these grpahics are some of the best in the game(at least where a druid is concerned) And the elysians dont drop primary or ranged items, so I am a little confused with where you were going with that?

Lastly I got this shield last night and replaced my tae ew with it, I really like the shield. Now I hope to sell in baz for 14.5k! LoL

RE: Wisdom
# Jan 22 2003 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
i am level 51 i STILL have my Testament of Vanaer, don't bother me none eitehr i got 203 wis before kei and about 227 after.
i do just fine with what i got and its mostly low end stuff....hell i am still wearing a Silver jasper ring (2 wis ring.
so your gear has nothing to do with what you can acomplish in the game, its all about the attitude 8)

Why would you want Tanglewood anyway? Maybe if you had spent the AA to raise your WIS cap, but personally I'll take the 55 mana and slightly less WIS, considering that I've had my WIS over 230 for ages (since I have KEI on practically 24/7 for the mana regen, anything over 230 is worthless).

*Blush*

Level 53 Shaman with Charred Guardian Shield. It's probably worn out by now, Ive had it so long.

Yes, I should upgrade, but whenever I accumulate some cash I always think of "great" ideas to spend it on.

"Hang on, I'll twink a bard. That'll be a great"
"Bored with the bard. Think I'll twink a monk"
"Hmm. Why dont I get my smithing skill up?"
"Alchemy. That's what I'm gonna spend my cash on"

Shield of Bane Warding (affectionately called the "Kitty Litter Shield") is overrated. As Borogove pointed out, the Kitty Litter Shield has no hp or mana, while the Bone Braced Buckler has 55hp, 55mana. If your wisdom is over 200, and it should be with all the cheap, high wisdom items out there now, you will get more mana from this shield, and an extra 55hp as well.

As an example, my druid is currently level 53, has 237 wisdom, and uses a Skull Marked Shield (22ac, 7wis, 50hp, 50mana, costs about 4kpp). If I were to switch to a Shield of Bane Warding, I would gain a whopping 4 mana (without KEI), and lose 50hp in the process. With KEI (which I basically always have on), I would actually lose mana switching to a Shield of Bane Warding. I would gain 18 mana (14 over the Kitty Litter Shield) with this shield.

RE: the priced is screwed

I don't know about price, I ripped this from Grazn's cold re-dead hands myself. But if you're comparing this to the Shield of Bane Warding, here's my take. 55 mana, 55 hit points. I was offered Bane Warding, pretty much for free, and said "no thanks." All I would be getting from it is more wisdom, and at 60, I'm well over 255 wisdom now. I'd much rather have that extra mana any day.
vanear for da lower lvls
# Apr 29 2002 at 8:10 PM Rating: Default
for all ye lower lvl wisdom casters that would like to get your hands on a 10wis secondary, go on over to High Pass Hold and do the Testament of Vanear quest. it is very easy to do and gets tou a nice book item. (10wis 10mana).
i think there is a pretty good guide to the quest on this site =)
now, with that aside, this here thingy is sweet, and i want one =P
RE: vanear for da lower lvls
# Jul 28 2002 at 7:06 PM Rating: Good
Actually, at level 20 or so when most people get their testaments, unless twinked, Save your money and buy yourself a charred guardian shield for 200 plat. 1 less Wis but 10 AC as well. Much more Valuable than the Testament. Plus by the time you waited the 6 3/4 to 8 1/2 hour spawn, possibly more if there is a line ahead of you, you could easily raise the necessary 200 plat to buy one plus get XP while waiting and NOT be bored off your ***. I wish I had know this before camping The testament 3 times.

The idea that 1 wis and 10 mana is less valuble than 10 ac is an opinion. I stopped meleeing at 18, and generally focus on not getting hit (via being out of melee range) and snare sticking...so for me, more wis, more mana. I''m 53 and still using a ToV, so don't dis the Test-a-mint.

Ever heard of questing before? Thats why a lot of people play this game, they don't want to just go out and buy everything. Besides ToV now has Mana preservation 1 on it making it much more valuable then a CGS to a lower level char.

Graphic?
# Feb 18 2002 at 2:38 PM Rating: Default
What does it look like when equipped?
RE: Graphic?
# Apr 15 2002 at 11:46 PM Rating: Default
The graphic when equipped looks like a kite shield w/ bones on the outside of the shield and a cross of bones in the center...not the best graphic, but well worth it for the stats.

Got one
# Jan 22 2002 at 9:46 AM Rating: Default
Got one this weekend could not believe it when someone in my guild told me it was worth about 10-12k. Sold it VERY quickly for 8K plus a pair of Golden Eff Boots (4k or so on my server). Easy to sell, lots of queries.
I do not remember the mob I got it off being named. Was not even a tough fight.

I don't know why prices are so low on your server..on the TM Server this shield sells for about 20 to 18kpp. Got one last night when I traded a OoIV + 2kpp for this item
SBS to resist item bags
# Dec 12 2001 at 5:54 AM Rating: Decent
Finally a shield that wouldn't take a full on raid to get that can retire a shaman, cleric, or druid's Sarnak Battle Shield to their resist item bag... I'm happy to see this and will probably be working to get my guild equipped with these asap for those few raids that do not need resists.

Anyone have any information on where this spawns? or where the PH's are? Any useful info would be appreciated. It would be nice to get one of these shields for my cleric.

Also, does anyone know what the graphic looks like when worn?

Very Nice
# Dec 06 2001 at 2:15 PM Rating: Default
My 35 druid carries a Paw of Opolla in Primary Melee and a Testament of Vaneer (SP?) in the Secondary Melee. This item would rock in the Secondary Melee slot. The Grey is a higher level place I believe, so this item will stay high in price for a long while.
