SK v Ranger

I play both SK and ranger and I get dismayed at all the disrespect that goes on between players of these 2 classes. I guess it's because we compete for similar places in groups sometimes. The fact is these are 2 of the most underated classes in the game. When played by a truly intelligent player these 2 classes can be the most rewarding gameplay characters in EQ. We actually have to think hard how to play these classes well, which is why bad players destroy their reputation. I've also found that one of the safest and fastest exp building tactics is an SK/ranger pairing. The spells and skills complement each other, filling in the gaps of the other. The melee strengths and weaknesses of each are counterbalanced nicely if both understand agro control. Both are used to going close to dying to save others (usually casters), which is great when paired with another ready to do the same. SK's and rangers when played well are the secrets of this game.

A fellow guild mate is working on getting this sweet item..what I was wondering was is this part of the Iksar race epic(what I like to call it)..if so is this the last 1hs or is there one after this? And do you know is the Cats will also have their own little race epics also? well good hunting and safe journey to you all.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 21 2002 at 12:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) weiner....just because u worship cazic doesnt mean u cant get inny's curse, u dont need to give cazic the shaft to get that sword (cant remember the name....blood something or other?) it comes off one of his flunkies...
RE: question
# Dec 26 2001 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
I play a halfling rogue as my main, but I have an Iksar Shadow Knight, and he wouldn't want to weild Innoruk's Curse, because Iksars worship Cazic-Thule. Therefore I would rather use this than the SK epic.

This is a fine weapon, with a good storyline behind it. Congratulations to all who weild it!

Actually, I DO consider this my Iksar epic... I don't think Verant considers the "epic" weapons that people talk about to be so epic.

Seriously, most higher lvls will start to use better stuff that drops off dragons once they can get it. Even Verant only calls them "the class specific particle effect weapons"...

Make your own epic... perhaps killing Emperor Crush is your epic quest... have fun with the game... and if you set your sights high, maybe you'll accomplish your own epic and decide to go for higher...

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 10 2001 at 10:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There is no such thing as an "Iksar Epic". The epics are class defining only, and the greenmist may be a truely spectaular weapon, but it is not epic level (Very close though). Also this is the FINAL Khurki of the series.

Actually, it wasn't Trakanon who released the Greenmist. Supposedly, the Shissar became so powerful and cruel to their slaves that the gods became angered and released a green mist upon them which wiped them out. (Some storyline from SoL will explain how they go to the moon.) The Iksar, who were the slaves of the Shissar, were thus freed, and tribes were created among different areas of Kunark. Under the great Iksar known as Rile, the Crusaders of Greenmist were formed, which celebrated the freedom of their kind by the all powerful green mist that destroyed their enemies. Today, even though the great navy of the Iksar (which WAS going to take over Antonica) is destroyed, and their great former cities are now in ruins thanks to the rebel Dragons under Trakanon, the giants, the frogloks, and the goblins... the ShadowKnights still call themselves Crusaders of Greenmist...

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 19 2001 at 5:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, the Shissar were the race that enslaved the Iksar many many years ago. The were pretty much wiped out by Greenmist (which was literally a green mist) released by Trakanon.
RE: shissar
# Nov 21 2001 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
Actually Trak only fought the iskar NOT the Shissar. The Greenmist was brought down by a force not entirely specified. It was written that greenmist was a punishment to the Shissar for attempting to control and manipulate magic and control other planes of exisitance. From the texts I've seen the Shissar had magic powers which almost rivaled gods. Which is why some group of very powerful beings unleashed the Green. Trak and the Iskar war came much much later. While Trak does release a 'green mist' when you fight him I do not belive the Green and Trakanon are related.

Here's a couple pics I took right after I got it.

http://home.cinci.rr.com/promising/atforge.jpg

This thing rocks, but it can be painful as well. The proc is a pretty high taunt the first time, but if you proc 2 or three times in a row you can be sure that nobody (not even 5 level 60 warriors) are gonna taunt the mob off ya. In TOV Halls of testing and places like that where defensive tanks are needed, that generally spells death. It's still kinda fun to see main tank near death and suddenly you pull aggro cause your weapon procs 2 times.

Grats to all of you who have finished the quests or have started.
I am a lowly 45 SK and love the look of the blade. It looks a bit Japanese, like a katana? When I first saw the polished naginata dropped from Chardok, I have dreamed to have one just for the look =) This blade looks hella cool! I hope no other weaps look like this.

The damage ratio is excellent (very close to the 40/40 sporali defender blade look alike, dropped by Vindicator in KD, I was told), much better than MOSS> However, from what I have experienced, a 2HS weapons definitely deal a lot more damage than a 1HS. But this would be awesome for PvP purpose, interrupting the caster's spellcasting?

Grats on awesome weapon, man =) It's remotivated me to get my lizzy SK finishing up those quests. One thing to disagree on though... the high taunt of the proc is one of the things that makes it desirable! Then again, my guild pretty much exclusively uses SK tanks in TOV Halls of Testing and places where defensive tanks are usually needed. Nobody controls agro like an SK =)

Am glad they finally finished this series of quests, and made the reward worth wielding.

# Nov 17 2001 at 12:56 AM Rating: Decent
I don't have a bane weapon, but notice it says Bane SHISSAR dmg? I believe that means there is a separate damage increase when the weapon is used against a mob of the SHISSAR race. This makes sense, as the Shissar are the old slave masters of the Iksar, were destroyed by the coming of the GREEN MIST... I think if you check other weapons with bane damage, it probably lists the race or species that get bane damage. The Greenmist is a Shissar bane.

You can't resurrect Lord Rile because he's already BEEN resurrected...kinda.

Lord Rile was the son of Venril Sathir. Venril Sathir had a pact with Innoruuk for immortality. Rile wanted to be the emperor, but knew he'd never be emperor if Venril Sathir lived forever, so when Venril was to become a lich in service to Innoruuk, Rile stole his body and burned it. More recently, Venril's supporters found RILE's preserved body and animated it with VENRIL's spirit within it.

Thus, whenever you fight Venril Sathir, that's actually Rile Sathir that you're looking at.

BANE DMG
# Nov 16 2001 at 3:14 AM Rating: Decent
sorry yall... bane dmg isnt like dmg bonus... dmg bonus adds to the hit of the weapon... bane dmg adds to the damage of the weapon... so an 18 weapon would hit like this near 50

18 x 3 = 54

thats what a normal hit would be... now then after 50 the dmg bonus dependant on skill and lvl comes into play... lets say its 10

18 x 3 = 54 + 10 = 64

ok thats not bad... but thing here is... bane dmg effects the first number in this equation, not the 4th so it goes like this against shissar mobs

(18 + 6) x 3 = 72 + 10 = 82

dunno bout you but i think thats a whole lot more dmg... all bane dmg is like that, even on those really crappy summoned cleric hammers. there ya go.. bane dmg explained... peace out

While I won't post a bunch of formulas here (mostly because I don't know them - caster!), aren't you forgetting to compensate for the delay factor? (Slower weapons get damage bonuses - one of you tanks throw some numbers up here if you want).

You, of course, know better, having 10 different weapons with bane damage on them.

People have actually tested *gasp* the weapons with bane dmg vs undead, and it acted like it increased the base damage of the weapon.

Go buy a clue.

It took Verant long enough to finally impliment the Greenmist quest, but the wait was worth it. Too bad the story along with the quest sucked royally. Woulda been cool to Ressurect(sp) Lord Rile. This (against Shissar at least) is comparable to the Frostwrath, though the Frostwrath would probably come out superior. The resists on this are great. Not only is it a fast weapon, it has great damage, this with Bane DMG and the DMG bounus would be insane. This and the new character models of Iksar recently released make being an Iksar all that much more enjoyable.
Bane DMG
# Nov 16 2001 at 12:16 AM Rating: Good
The running theory (I say theory because I'm not sure if this is confirmed, but according to the SK boards this is truth) is that Bane DMG adds to the base damage of the weapon.

Cleric's summoned hammers have Bane DMG vs. Undead and it seems to be working along those lines. So essentially, Greenmist would be 24/22 against Shissar (when Luclin comes out, at least).

Damage bonus for one handed weapons is based off of skill and level ONLY, not delay. A prismatic blade of turning (28/35) bard only weapon would for me give me the EXACT same bonus as a rusty dagger. Only 2 handed weapons are based off of delay.

how bane damage works
# Nov 16 2001 at 2:18 AM Rating: Good
the way bane damage works is that when used on the type of NPC listed, the weapon will effectively change its damage rating.

So on normal mobs this would be: 18dam/22del

on Shissar mobs however: 24dam/22del nice eh?

Bane damage first appeared as vs. undead on the cleric summon hammer line.

"The damage bonus on its HUGE ..."

actually since this is a 1hander the damage bonus is based mostly on the level of the wielder. I would guess that all of the 1handed weapons this person has say "dmg bonus:9" right now.

As an example my 51 ranger gets a dmg bonus:8 to everyone one of his 1handed weapons

But yeah, this is a pretty sweet looking slasher.

1 hand damage bonuses? Check your wurm, lammy, and a junk dagger. Wurm ahs 6 at 45, lammy has 6, a 3 damage dagger of mine says 6 also. Even my light velium bow says 6. I serious doubt a 3 damage dagger has a bonus of 6. Only weapons that vary for me are 2hand weapons. My 23 45 staff is 13. From what i seen the damage bonus on 1 hand weapons is a default value based on level with no bearing on actual damage output. I hit for below 6 damage alot with 1 hand weapons, as far as I remember never below the bonus with 2 hand. I think the 1hand bonus is there so all weapons have same format. Besides VI only said 2 hand weapons got bonuses. Listing one doesn;t mean it works.

BTW at 53 all 1 hand weapons have same bonus listed too.(8 or 9) Seemed to have no affect on damage there either.
