Fired up my 17 Gnome Paladin after many months of ignoring him and was surprised to find this item in his offhand slot. I have no clue where I got it from. At first I thought that maybe it was the result of a quest that I did, but after seeing it is a GM event item and from East Karana, no less, I can only assume that I found it on a carcass left on the battlefield during the event since I likely wouldn't have been able to kill anything in that zone at my level. I vaguely remember attending one such event with this character where a friendly group of ubers were killing stuff and shouting out the locations of the drops, but I could swear that it was the Halloween werewolf event in West Commonlands as I don't remember ever taking this character beyond Highpass before. I guess it'll remain a mystery. I'll still enjoy using this thing, though. :)

I got one of these shields off of a mob. I have to say it doesn't compare to the Crested Mistmoore Shield. If you are a level 33+ Pal and you don't have a CMS, I'd recommend getting one. The dex bonus on the CMS helps with weapon procs (more important to a pal than wis), and the +10 magic, disease, and poison resists are a most have to be a true "caster-basher".

I looted this shield off of some lowbe in the EK event. I immediately compared to the Cracked Darkwood (not that I will go 1hs as a paladin anytime soon) and judge that this shield is better. It promotes more balance between str and wis which is what paladins should shoot for because they suck without both. I'm gonna keep in the bank for a time when I find a good 1hs like Sword of Morning and don't have the pp to buy a shield to go with it.

No, probably won't want to use regularly at your level, but might want to keep around for fighting casters for bash. 3 stone weight is nice for a backup shield. Also, for lower levels, pair this up with a ghoulbane, and you've got a nice package.

Hm. I am level 30 and have a Mith 2Hander, the ratio on it (counting Haste) is 21/28. I was wondering, would this paired with GB be as good as the Mith, if I got a Haste item (are there any attainable at this level?? I am broke after buying some of my Ro armor and the Mith, so I would have to be able to kill for it.)? I like the way my stats would be if I used this, but not sure if it is a good choice.
And yes, I do have GB and the shield.

Sorry if my post is a little confusing, my brain is a bit frazzled today (tired).

I would say it depends on the role you're filling in a group. If you're there as an extra damage dealer only, go with the mithril 2HS, especially since the slower taunt rate helps keep mobs on the damage sponge (though that's more an issue for classes with dual wield). If you're the main tank at the time or (lord forbid) soloing, then you could well use the GB & shield combo to take a little less damage.

Nice name, by the way. ;)

Funny you should mention that combination of weapons. That's exactly what I am using. I use the 2Handed Mithril as Primary and resort to the Ghoulbane/Watcher combo on undead and casters. I am a level 35 Human Paladin and have the related skills maxed out. Overall damage (including Bash) with a haste item is actually comparable. I generally hit in the 60's with the 2Handed and in the upper 40's with the ghoulbane and bash will get me say about 10 or so. So with Haste the ghoulbane works out...escpecially where undead are concerned :)

This shield really isn't so special. I was kind of dissapointed when I got it. I had to LoH when fighting the monster that dropped this, but with Grennix, I easily killed him..not really worth it. If only it had a sweet graphic. Use CDS, it's better for pallies.

Consider this...

When you use your self-only regen spell, you want as much mana as possible... Thus, a higher Wisdom.

When you got this shield, were you fully buffed? Did you use your Divine Purpose? Were you wielding your Ghoulbane?

The only times I had trouble were when I was fighting 2 of the "Phantom" mobs at once... both blue to me at 40. Any other time, I could handle anything that came my way.

Yea............. BUT it's no drop, which is actually nice in this case in my opinion.

Why? You'll never say "Dam.. I coulda used that..too bad I sold it."

guardian shield.. 800pp? 500pp?

GM no drop once a year event item. priceless.

... that pretty much sums it up.
Oooo!

Strength and Wisdom both! Only 1 less AC than my Cracked Darkwood Shield!

I sure hope that this stuff is still going on!
