My God What a Weapon...
# Mar 15 2002 at 6:09 PM Rating: Decent
I got this on my bard alt when she was around
23ish(now my main, hehe i got tired of playin my dr00d) she 35 now and with the recent addition of Dmg bonus's for bards i can usually hit around 40 or so w/ normal melee ... Secondary Weapon is Wakisashi of Frozen Skies (6/22 proc 81 DD) soo now im just a procing maniac =)Very Awesome mace, even better that it's bard only , so we can finally make everybody else drool
mmmmm flameweaver

I came to EK a non twink after hearing that a GM event was going on. The bard Emse was my alternate character at the time, lvl 12 too.
I kept seeing shouts for flameweaver, but i didnt know how to use location. Then, a lvl 40 sumthin bard helped me out and i got myself the mask of glamour, and a flameweaver. im lvl 32 and a half now, and i still have both items equiped. Mmmmmm flameweaver will proc soon!!
Grand Prize
# Feb 03 2002 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent
IMHO, this was definitely the grand prize of the Halloween sweepstakes. Compare it to the ringed mace of ykesha; that's 10/22, procs ykesha, and goes in either melee. The ringed mace is not quite as good as the flameweaver, either on damage stats, other stats (that STR), or proc, and it can sell for as much as 10K.

Yes, my bard is an alt; who cares? I absolutely love this weapon, and I use it whenever my bard is meleeing. I can't imagine replacing this with anything for many, many levels.
That nice warm feeling ...
# Nov 22 2001 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
I love this mace. I have toasted numerous critters now and I and my friends have spent much time basking in the light from glowing red flames :) This weapon has seriously upped my damage potential in melee and with 128 dex I get 5-7 procs (usually for the full 110 pts) each combat. It goes very nicely with a SSoY in the other hand that I also get a couple of procs from in the fight. I can't wait for level 44 and a werewolf illusion spell from enchanter friends ... the extra 100 dex will really fire up the proc rate.

I have also noticed skill ups for instrument skills while using this weapon but my impression is that this is coincidental and Flameweaver is not the reason.

On another note (♫) whether people got this weapon for alts or not is a moot point at this stage ... I was very happy to get one for this character (my main) anyway. Enjoy!!

I'm thrilled that I managed to get this weapon. At lvl 28, a friend and I wandered over to Rathe Mountains to hunt skeles, not realizing the GM event was going on. After promptly getting killed, we spent the next hour using her invis and my speed to drag corpses back to the zone. A higher lvl group was letting folks loot their kills, and I was immensely greatful. It definitely made dying and sticking around to help worthwhile.

I, too, have been getting skill increases with this weapon, though I see that some are saying that's either a bug or a fix. I'm not sure... I do run noticeably faster (yes, geek that I am, I timed a few runs) when holding the weapon, but not nearly as fast as when I'm holding Mistmoore Drums (a gift from a guildmate for helping him out, and dying 11 times in the process).

This bard is my main (my SO and I have 3 accounts between us), and I've been playing for two years and just now about to hit lvl 31. What can I say? I get more out of the game by helping folks than by hunting things.

Testing Flameweaver with some songs

I tested a number of songs with Flameweaver to see if there were any benefits of holding the weapon while playing each type of song (ala the Singing Short Sword). Quick summary: Flameweaver does not increase the effectiveness of songs.

I tried with Chant of Battle (percussion), Hymn of Restoration (string), Crission's Pixie Strike (wind), Tuyen's Chant of Flame (percussion), and McVaxius Berserker Crescendo (brass), none of which benefitted from holding the weapon (ie, they were the same effectiveness as no instrument). I also tried Melody of Ervaj (requires brass) and Shauri's Sonorous Clouding (requires wind), which would not play with the Flameweaver in either hand.

So it is still a bit of a mystery why I was able to get skill ups in two different brass songs (Appalling Screech and Berserker Crescendo), and a skill up in a string song (Hymn of Restoration), and others have reported percussion skill ups (my percussion is maxed at the moment, so I couldn't test it). Normally, you can only get a skill up when holding the appropriate instrument. So there's either SOMETHING special about the weapon, or there's a new bug to do with bard instrument skills. Has anyone seen skill ups with weapons other than this weapon?

It seems to be the case that VI recently implemented skill raise ups in the instruments group while singing the required songs WITHOUT holding the instrument. I was away for the GM events so i missed out on this nice killer. I do wield Icetooth Claws and Guardian Sword and have gotten skill increases with these as well. Very nice bug *psst dont tell VI, they will nerf it = )

Grats to all those who got their Flameweaver!

I did some testing as well and found out a couple of things:

(1) My wind, string and brass all raised while weilding Flameweaver. I would suppose percussion would have as well if it wasn't maxed. This is a wonderful thing for me to raise my brass while Fear kiting with weapons drawn.

(2) This is the only weapon that gave me any sort of instrument skill increase, though it's also my only bard exclusive weapon.

(3) Flameweaver does not count as an instrument like the epic does. Your songs are no more powerful weilding Flameweaver than weilding a rusty dagger. Nor can you play instrument required songs (invisibility) while weilding Flameweaver despite the wind skill increases.

(4) Proc is, as mentioned, most definately 33. I got a bit more resists than some others said. Message is "(Target) combusts" and while I typically did the full 110, I occassionally got a full resist or as low as 11pts damage.

I was lucky enough to get this great weapon during the halloween events :) Level 29 Bard and it dropped off of a knight in ek. :) It did drop quite frequently...but im not complaining :) I too was glad verant made class specific drops giving everyone a chance to get something. :) I am currently level 30...so will have to agree and cross my fingers that the weapon will proc at level 33 !! according to earlier posts.

Raising Percussion Skill
# Nov 10 2001 at 7:43 AM Rating: Decent
I got this weapon with my bard and I discovered tonight that I can raise my skill in percussion by holding this weapon in my hand! I wish to know if any other bard can do this. I had the mace in my primary slot and an Obsidian Shard in the secondary slot. I got 2 skill raises while playing Selo's in Highkeep, but when I ran to Freeport, i got no skill raise. Once in Freeport, I got another 2 points in the skill and the 5th point in North Freeport. Please bards, try it and post if you got it to work or not. Like I said, it seams to only work in cities but tell me what you find

I also raised my skill level while wielding this weapon. I wasnt sure how that worked for bards anymore, since I had not played my bard in some time. I was singing sel's without the drum and my percussion went up. I was also singing denons and my brass went up. I thought it was odd at the time, but since I had not played my bard for a long time, I did not remember wether the instrument skills advanced when I was singing a song of that type wether I had an instrument equipped or not. So to answer your question, yes, I have noticed the same effect. I don't know if this is due to flameweaver or some recent patch though.

Dropped in EK off green (at 34) MOB, VERY nice weapon only problem: 'your skill in 1HB has increased to 4' compared to 'your skill in 1hs has increased to 175'.
Found a use for all those training points I've saved at last!!

I was fighting in the Arena in Kael and using this weapon. We had some good tanks and everytime this weapon would Proc I would get beat the hell out of. My dex is only around 125 and I have had it proc more up too 12 times in 1 fight (it was a LONG fight)

BTW This Proc can be resisted and doesnt always hit for full damage. The majority of the time it does hit for 110dd though

Havent used my 1hb in quite a while and went up from 208 to 214 in about 3 hours in Kael

IMHO this weapon is really nice and most will use into their high 40's and early 50's, I dont use because I primarily use a 10/18 7int 7cha 7agi 5ac mace and a 14/24 effect:guard mace which works quite nicely although the flameweaver does have a decent ratio I didn't like it "that" much enough to replace an old weapon.
The thing that wasn't really thought out is that due to the extended period of time this event ran over most bards (and im sorry if you weren't one of them) managed to acquire this mace. This mace TOTALLY imbalances the economy for bardic weapons..... now almost all weapons under 50th level are obsolete aside from a secondary weapon. Anything else really is a sidearm or trash now unless you didn't get one of these (which most of us did).
RE: Decent but maybe not well thought out
# Nov 11 2001 at 5:18 PM Rating: Decent
So what if it unbalances things? It was a godsend to poor bards like me using 2 SSoYs at 45, and my experience is that most of the people looting it were just selfish people looking to twink their alts, and these people will eventually go back to their main char and forget their bard making the mace even more rare and special.

Mixed feelings on the alternate thing. My bard used to be my main, now he's my alternate. But who my main is seems to switch depending on my mood. My druid is currently 30, my warrior is 35, and my bard just jumped from 17 to 20. (I also have a 15 monk and 11 cleric, but they hardly qualify as alternates since I havent played either in over a month)

During the event I found myself greedily sneaking the bard to the boss camp in highpass. I was the only bard there at the time, and the leader of the group said that If no one else wanted the bard items that came up I could have them.

Having already snatched a flameweaver by the speed of my drummy drum drum, I was salivating at the thought of possibly also getting the shortsword. Neither of which I deserve at my meager level.

Still I was there thinking that it might as well be me... I mean why not? Lesser bards were doing it too. Then I get a tell from one of the 50+'s that is fighting in the group. He tells me he is sorry, but if a bard item drops he will claim it for his alternate who is camped there....

No problem. I don't deserve it anyway, turns out his alternate is a lvl 6 bard. In my mind, because the guy has a lvl 50+ even his lvl 6 bard probably deserves it more than me. Afterall without the 50's there bashing the snot out of the bad guy there would be no drop. But seriously... a level 6? How much could someone really play their bard and get to level 6... thats two nights tops with any kind of decent gear, and you know a level 50+ has much better than decent gear. So the point is that particular 10/20 +10 str offhand will not see much use... ever.

I wonder how many of these "alternates" snatched up the good gear only to have the character gathering moss on the shelf? In effect this culled the number of drops. Imagine if flameweaver had been incredibly rare, and none of the bards got one except bards that were "alternates" like this one.

I also wonder how many high level bards beat me to the flameweaver (before i finally beat them) only to put it in their bank. Afterall, do we really want all the aggro that a 13 26 gives us? or for that matter a 10 20 in the offhand? I think an instrument would have been a much better drop for all bards. the fact that these were weapons with identifyable stats, made them sexy for alternate characters. People who don't truly appreciate bards would not have been too excited about some dumb lute, or some dumb horn :)

I bet the guys that got those nice weapons for their alternates are gonna level their bards like regular melee classes until the armor and weapons aren't good enough to overcome the fact that they are not playing the class the way it was meant to be played. I would guess that happens in the low 30's. If these had been instrument drops, those bards would be developing the way bards should :)

Byndala, I hope you managed to get both weapons. Having scrapped your way to 45 you certainly deserve them!

Your 1HBlunt skill has improved (4)!!
# Nov 05 2001 at 2:30 PM Rating: Good
Grumble grumble. So, this metal stick looking thing has a big end and a small end. Every once in a while, fire shoots out of the thick end so I am thinking I should hold onto the skinny end. I tried it for a while and didn't really hit but once the giant seemed to misstep and ran into the thing. It seemed to hurt him and a big ball of flame wrapped over him. A message apppeared that said "Your skill has improved 1 H Blunt (4)!" or something of the sort. So I take it I am swinging it right.

i personally believe that this weapon should be nerfed. 3 outta 5 bards i c has this weapon... and 2 outa 3 of those are under lvl 40. that is just WAY too much for noobs (who dont even deserve such a weapon). im not saying i hate this weapon... considering bards dont get double attack n is relatively weak... im just saying verant went overboard with the drops.
RE: nerf

Grrrr I had to die at least 10 times to get this weapon... Trying to get my way in RM wasn`t easy at all. I know the weapon dropped in ek too but I hate clicking contest such as those that happened in ek. So I had to be patient and get guildmate to just allow me to survive in the hell that RM is. Agreed that the events lasted for too long thought I`m happy of it since it allowed me to get this. So that's the good and bad side, if you were looking for something, it was easy to get, but everyone could possibly gets it. But I feel like anyone or nearly anyone who has earned something worth during the events deserved it cause they were patient enough to wait for it to drop and to be able to loot it which took me about 16 hours minimum in this case... that's nothing compared to some camps at higher lvl but that's my whole week-end anyway.

Well "3 out of 5" probably were able to get this because of the event lasted HALF A WEEK, allowing EVERYONE to get EVERYTHING. Perhaps the event should've been shorter? Probably.

I've only been playing EQ for about 6 months; when I first saw twinks I thought "ah geez - twinks are way better equiped than me". As a non-twink who died at least half a dozen times in EK during the event, FIGHTING no less, sometimes solo, I feel I deserve a good weapon DAMIT!

I did the WoFS quest at 27 and feel I deserved that, too. Being a Bard I can kite outdoors like mad - blues, yellows, reds, 2 at a time, 3, 4, 7 - don't matter. Inside a dungeon is a different story (hehe). My point is, lighten up man, it's just a GAME! Yeah, someone probably brought their L10 bard alt in full Lambent and snagged a mace. So what? Twink is as twink does. Let the rest of us have our little victory.

I went to RM on The Tribunal Wed night and the place was a zoo. I got some stuff for my druid and was /OOCing anything my partner or I could not loot. People were doing the same. All you saw were locs being /OOC'd.

Anyway, I killed a gargoyle type thing and looked and saw this sweet weapon. I have a 23 bard and just knew she had to have it.

I got a port over there and within 10 mins had my new toy. Got another one for a guildmate as well.

My question is, when will this be hit with the nerf stick?

I hope never because this is one of the best weapons I have seen.

BoH = primary
Flameweaver = secondary

When I get high enough, IF I use the Flameweaver, I will have to ditch the BoH and get my Symphonic Sword out to reduce aggro, LOL

procs are nice but WILL NOT make you kill it in half the time, w/ 200dex it still wont proc more than 10 times a fight (<-being nice, alot less), and 10 times a fight is 1100 damage, an average wizard nuke, so shutup these procs dont help out alot espicially when your a bard and getting the aggro.
